i need to have words with whoever dressed buck for his date bc what is even going on here??? white sneakers are super casual, paired with more formal shiny black dress pants (look at those pleats!), with a semi-casual button-up polo??? to say nothing of the disconnect colour-wise (the only worse outfits of his this season are the finale fits, but that’s another post). 

he looks as disappointed in himself as i am in the wardrobe department. 

i need to headcanon that he had trouble deciding on what to wear, going back and forth for an hour before finally landing on an ensemble he thought was good [spoiler alert: it was not, in fact good]. for someone who had dressed pretty well this season, this outfit was shock-horror.

re: your last post, although we’ve seen fewer outfits from him, do you think we could see a development in tommy’s wardrobe as a consequence of him becoming more settled into his and buck’s relationship? (not saying the show will actually do this, but i’m more wondering what it might look like in tommy’s case)

ok, so: i actually really like tommy's comfortable, serviceable wardrobe. i know lots of folks on here have complained about it being plain and boring and not enough colour or not the right colour choices for his complexion, but honestly i had no complaints (my only petpeeve is with the makeup department because he looked washed out on datenight); all my wardrobe complaints are directed at buck's choices this season.

i think tommy is settled in himself and that's why his wardrobe is what it is. he has his dream job, he's accepted his sexuality and doesn't hide it, he has friends and a social life, he makes new friends easily (at least when he gels with the person ie. eddie), and most importantly he's shed the toxic behaviour he exhibited while under gerrard's reign of terror. he's grown so much, and is clearly reached a point in his life where he's happy with everything he has - sans a romantic relationship before buck. he's also likely 40-45yo..

buck's style shifting into something more comfortable because of self-discovery and a loving relationship doesn't really apply to tommy because tommy has already had his self-discovery arc and has already developed his own comfortable sense of style; he's not dressing to impress like buck has always tended to. i don't think being in a loving relationship would change tommy's style, per se. if anything, buck might try to shove some tighter jeans and more revealing shirts his way at the mall, and tommy might just indulge him because buck's pupils blow out when he tries them on.

tommy took a decade or so to better himself and find comfort in who he is and he's finally there (so proud of him btw) so i don't think there's any cause for drastic changes in his style. i can't really think of any minor changes he might make, just that he'd let buck steal his tees and hoodies - which might be the reason they end up going clothes shopping, because if buck insists on keeping tommy's clothes he's going to need to resupply his closet..
