When I went to watch LOTR in the cinemas for the first time last week, my brain kept catching new details I'd never noticed before. One of those in TTT was the broken statue at Helm's Deep by the stairs. Which then spawned this little fanfic moment I wrote in the car home at midnight for Myths of Its Own:

Groups of refugees from across the nearby hamlets and towns were still coming through the front gates of Helm's Deep on a regular schedule, though their numbers were gradually dwindling as time between safe travel and a siege in progress narrowed. Wren had helped where she could with Edoras' displaced civilians before seeking a quiet corner for her to sit and wait for news.

Her leg swung back and forth, back and forth, back and forth counting the seconds when there was no news from any quarter. She hoped that the small warning would have been enough to prevent anything else changing; the life of one man was enough - if it ended up being an exchange of one life for another...

No, she shook her head. Now is not the time to spiral.

So Wren let her eyes wander. Over the crowds of people were the walls of stone that had remained standing for so long, and three tall stone statues. Each had their backs to the main keep, looking outwards, ready for an attack.

From her seat Wren could make out most of the closest pair - though the one closest to her was damaged and broken, only surviving up to the waist. The blade of a sword was still distinguishable up to the hilt, well designed and very Rohirric though less grand and not identical to its sibling statue on the other side of the walkway.

Wren idly wondered who they were. Many of the statues mentioned in Tolkien's work were grandiose and their histories long and storied, but these were small, quiet, everyday reminders passed by on daily watches or sheltered beneath in the afternoon sun.

"My lady-" a voice from somewhere to her left startles Wren out of the trail of thoughts; pushing away from the wall, she turns to see one of the riders. He was perhaps not much older than herself, somewhere in the late years of his second decade or the early ones of his third, and looking at her beneath his helmet with some consternation. "Are you well?"

"Oh um ... yes, thank you." She's taken aback, trying to stand gracefully despite almost certainly standing on her cloak several times and nearly toppling over the small outcrop on the third instance. "I was just wondering about the statues."

The unknown rider frowns, his head tilting to the side a little. The spray of white hair from the top curls around his shoulder.

He gestures to the one standing taller towards the front. "Of Helm Hammerhand." A gesture to the pair flanking the stairs. "And his daughter and son."

"But I thought ... that Helm only had sons?"

His laugh is light, and for a moment Wren panics thinking she has caused offence (or just generally made herself seem a fool) but the responding smile is understanding.

"So say the bards -" the rider stands a little and turns to muse over the broken statue for a moment. "-but the tales miss out most of the truth I find. Haleth, she was styled. The name afore has not been remembered but that is well. For the one that is," the rider pauses and smiles down at Wren, half a foot shorter. "Is far more suitable for a Shieldmaiden of the Mark."

"Shieldmaiden," Wren turns the word over in her mind. Coupled with the look that this rider was giving her, it seemed that he was making many connections between her, himself, and the broken statue of the woman.

"Names are a grander weight here, my lady, than it seems you are aware of. But one thing is certain that all agree upon. That, were it possible, she would have been a Queen that the entire realm would have loved."

She knew what he was trying to say, in a different language with different words, but she had read historical texts to have caught onto the implications - the tales hidden in plain sight. The hidden rainbow flags waving in the breeze.

It just led to more questions about the broken statue that she was afraid to know the answer to; Rohan and its people had been nothing but genial since the Five Hunters had arrived. It would not do to shatter the illusion now, so close to the siege.

my overall thoughts on season 7, writing edition: what in the world ? 😭 i cannot believe i thought this season was gonna be good. i’ll be joining rohan & S2 MC in the circus, since FB made me look like a damn clown. i don't even know where to begin

being a casa girl had so much potential, and it was something that a lot of players actually wanted, even before FB started doing these themed seasons. they really fumbled the bag here

i enjoyed casa amor. the guys were all unique, had their own dialogue, and it was cool to see their pre-established relationships (alex being the villa dad, bryson and rafa being partners in chaos, the beef between bryson & joyo) then we arrived in the villa, and it all went downhill from there:

everybody became an empty husk, so they could be forced into interchangeable roles: uma’s partner, bonnie’s partner, OG LI’s ex, loved up couple (summer/joyo or #rafne) to name a few. FB’s lazy asses ruined their own characters . why is alex, the supposed level-headed & mature one, being petty & childish af in my playthrough? 😭

MC literally had no thoughts, head empty. we barely participated in any of the challenges and games. it felt like we didn't do anything besides "get pulled for a chat" by your LI or the girls

the LI personality merge in this season was the worst it has ever been. all they do is agree with whatever you say, or tell you how great you are (gone are the days of LIs having their own interests, & getting extra dialogue because of that, like levi with artist MCs)

same problem as the most recent seasons, where MC doesn’t have friendships. she has a forced bestie, then potential LIs that sit around waiting for you to pick them, choose them, love them (they immediately disappear if you don’t pick them)

the plot made no sense at all. being a casa girl means we miss out on the first half of the season, but there were many different ways they could've shown what happened before we arrived (it couldve been something as simple as MC watching the show at home or during the jeep ride to the villa. lol) the timeline was inconsistent, so much important information was paywalled, and i’m pretty sure FB was just making shit up as they went along, since the drama with stephen and OG LI's ex genuinely came out of nowhere . he wasn’t previously mentioned in the beach hut, casa amor, nothing . his only purpose was to make the OG girl look bad.

speaking of the OG girls, what a disappointment . before we got to the villa, i honestly thought they were hinting at estelle and/or willow being LIs . even if they were forced to be our rival, they still could’ve had an interesting character arc . it would've been a lot more fun if she was like allegra, rather than OG LI's equivalent of suresh

i was gonna write, "why tf did she even make it to the finale?" but the answer is obvious : for the gem scenes. every damn volume, it's pay diamonds to upstage her, pay diamonds to clapback, pay diamonds so “your man” doesn't turn his head 🙄 it's already stupid enough, but it makes even less sense if you're not pursuing your OG LI

which leads me to the biggest problem of this season, the lack of branching. you're given the illusion of choice, everything leads to the same outcome . i didn't think it could get any worse, until i saw what happens when you choose the money . does your LI storm off? nope. they make you do the treasure hunt anyways...to win you back ??😭 MC should've called security on their ass

s7 had a promising start but ended up being a flop. it was better than s5, but that's really not saying much . i wish FB would just take their time—s1 and 2 had a whole year long gap between them. but it's clear that rushed seasons are gonna be the norm, season 8 is dropping in february . capitalism ruins everything luv x

Every single thought I have about the NXT UK Hardware store au (Saint's Hardware) because I seem incapable of writing a full fic about it

Charlie and his sister Dee stay in England with their grandparents every summer

Charlie's grandpa got him a summer job at the store cause Johnny Saint, the owner, is their next door neighbor (and he saw Charlie staring at Alex aka Akid while he was stocking lightbulbs was trying to set them up dbsjss)

So every Summer since he was 16 he's worked there

He's almost done with college, he's getting a degree to become a child psychologist.

Trent Seven is the manager by the time he's 24, And he also works with Pete, Tyler, Nathan, Oliver, and Blair!

Robbie Brookside owns a mechanics shop called Wildcat Automotive and buys tools from Saint's a lot. Ridge Holland works for him and Xia works the desk! William does his taxes and finances for him! (Because Robbie likes to work on his fucked up BMW for him and refuses to accept money whenever Will tries to pay him)

That's how Pete starts dating Ridge; he comes in with Xia to buy some stuff with his overalls all undone, chestvhair soaked in sweat and Pete was like "oh great I can't not fuck him"

Ridge is a horrible driver so Xia always drives them to the store

Xia and Nathan have a mutualbcrush on eachother but are too dorky to confess to eachother and it drives everyone insane

Nathan and Oliver are roommates!

Tyler has to keep Pete and Charlie from killing eachother (mostly Pet has beef with Charlie Charlie thinks it's funny ejakakaal)

Charlie goes to the gym alone and that how he meets Teoman and Rohan, two successful corporate raiders who go there a lot. They're like, "hey, we saw you across the gym and liked your ass I mean assitude I MEAN-"

Charlie is head over heels for them and they start hanging out

The rest of the crew see them pick Charlie up from work one night in a red sports car and are convinced Teo and Ro are his sugar daddies (they aren't entirely wrong)

Trent never knows what the fuck is going on at any given time

Blair hates everyone

Except Isla, who comes in to buy rope and flirt with both her and Oliver

EAST HAVEN'S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT: THE WIND STORM

With the 1 year anniversary of East Haven's opening, we have decided to have an event that centers around a wind storm that is blowing it's way through town, inciting chaos where ever it goes. The event will start on January 5th at 12pm (noon) and end on January 15th at 12am (midnight). No new starters should be posted after January 10th.

You were placed into groups that are listed below. You will be expected to write with at least one character in that group that you normally do not write with. You are still free to do other threads with others in the group, but are required to at least one.

A Teaser for my Future Story.

Happy @barrissday everyone! I wanted to join in on the fun. So in Honor of my favorite Mirialan, I wanted to give you guys a peek at my future story. A story with 2 franchise into one. Here you go!

What felt like hours riding across the Plains of Rohan, Barriss could only wonder what she could face in this new world. It was a day ago when Alex and Ahsoka freed her from her cell. None would dare free a traitor. None would free a murder. But that didn’t stop Alex from seeing the light still burning inside her. With the Galaxy now hunting for the trio, it seemed hopeless to outrun and hide. But the memories of home still lingered in Alex’s mind. 

Here they are, a planet in the Outer Rim. A place far from the Republic and the Separatist’s influence. A place where they can lay low and help the Mirialan. Barriss has been given a second chance. Not only is she receiving help from her friends, but also Alex’s four old friends. A Wizard, a Dwarf, an Elf, and a Man. 

Coming over the small hill, the 6 riders halted. There they saw a town. Primarily built of wood. A dike and mighty wall and thorny fence encircled it. A green Terrance laid within the town. The Great Halls of Men. The Capital of Rohan, Edoras.

The sight of the wooden town dumbfounded the two girls. They expected the city to have some sort of technology. But from where they stood, it was obvious there was an absence of tech. It was also breath of fresh air from massive towers that dwarfed an ordinary person on Coruscant. 

“Edoras and the Golden Hall of Meduseld.” The White Wizard announced to others. “There dwells Theoden, King of Rohan, whose mind is overthrown. Saruman’s hold over King Theoden is now very strong.”

From the words of Alex and the other four Fellowship members about the Fallen Wizard, Ahsoka and Barriss increasingly became nervous. Though they never met Saruman, they can only infer that he was dangerous. More dangerous an Sith Lord. 

“Can we do anything to help him?” Barriss asks Gandalf. Concerned about the situation. 

“Yes.” Gandalf replied. “But don’t think that you’ll be welcome here. The people of this city have never seen anything like you and Ahsoka before. With Saruman’s hold over the Halls, his spies could reveal that the Jedis have returned to Middle Earth. It could spell danger for you. Best you three cover yourself.” 

Barriss’ worries only increased more. But understands that revealing themselves could get both her, Ahsoka, and Alex into trouble. 

“Be Careful what you say. Do not look for welcome here.” *The group continued onward towards Edoras. The Jedis immediately use the hoods to cover themselves the best they could. Hoping to their appearance won’t spell trouble.

Inside the Hall, the White Lady of Rohan, Eowyn kneels at the bedside of her recently dead cousin, Theodred. She was the only one who’s grieving over the lost of the King’s son. Her Uncle whose mind is overtaken and doesn’t react when his niece gives him the news of the death of his son, her brother Eomer banished from Rohan, she was alone. 

As Eowyn continues crying by the bedside, the Counselor to Theoden and the mole for Saruman Grima Wormtongue enters the room. Standing by the doorway, watching Eowyn. 

“Oh, he must’ve died sometime during the night.” The pale mole softly spoke as he walks towards grieving woman. “What a tragedy for the king to lose his only and heir.” He moves and sits on the bed. “I understand. His passing is hard to accept. Especially now that your brother has deserted you.” Grima finishes as he places his hand on Eowyn’s shoulder.

“Leave me alone snake!” Eowyn jumps up as she stands away from the Sycophant. Unfazed by his “words” of comfort.

“But you are alone. Who knows what you’ve spoken to the darkness.” The Flatterer gets up from the bed and begins to walk around the Shieldmaiden. “In the bitter watches of the night… when all your life seems to shrink. The walls of your bower closing in about you. A hutch to trammel some wild thing in.” 

“So fair. So cold.” Grima places his hand to Eowyn’s cheek as she closes her eyes. Running his hand down her throat. “Like a morning of pale spring…. Still clinging to winter’s chill.”

Tears slowly formed in Eowyn’s eyes. Breathing steadily and softly as Grima continues to feel her neck. But opens her eyes. The woman stared at him for a moment. His words of comfort did not work on Eowyn. Regaining herself.

“Your words are poison.” 

She runs out of the room to the entrance of the Golden Hall. Leaving Grima disappointed. Passing through the doors of the Hall, she stands staring out at the wooden city. She felt hopeless. Her brother is gone, her uncle under the influence of Saruman, and her cousin dead. As she stares out, she sees three horses from the distance. Riding towards Edoras. The flagpole next to her, flutters loosen and is carried away by the wind. Signaling the state of decay the kingdom of Rohan is in. 

Gandalf and the others arrive to the gates of Edoras. As they move in, from behind Aragorn and Alex reaches the outside gates. Both see the Rohan standard flutters falling down to the ground next to them. Before entering the city, Alex quickly summons the flutters with the Force to his hand. Quickly putting the flag away. 

The group entered Edoras. Ahsoka and Barriss looked at the surroundings. Trying to make sense of the place. Confusion quickly overtook them. It was obvious that there was an absence of any form of technology. There were no droids, crates, nothing. What Alex had told them. Any type of technology doesn’t exist in Middle Earth. As the company continued their way towards the hall, they received sidelongs looks from villagers. Aragorn, Alex, and Ahsoka would see a maiden dressed in white, standing in front of the Golden Hall.

The anxiety increased further for Ahsoka and Barriss. They sensed the despair among the people. Barriss continued to hide herself in her hood. The memories of the Clone Wars flooded back into her mind. Barriss recalled the times where she saw towns or city in the similar state as Rohan.  

“You’ll find more cheer in a graveyard.” Gimli comments as he looks at the situation Rohan is in and the side-longing looks from the villagers. 

As her looked back up at the Golden Hall, Aragorn sees that the maiden is gone.

This is my First Story Project. So I’m new to this. Also sorry if the dialogue or description is wack, I’m new to this again. So please, lend me some advice so that this story can turn out perfect.
