LW!Janus is Janus from my fic, Across Land and Water, Forever and Always - It's primarily a LAMP fic that I wrote for the Christmas Gift Exchange in 2022, Janus features as a witch!

i'm in my feels tonight (please forgive my ramblings) but i just want to say how much i love rowan whitethorn 🥺🥺🥺

he's literally the best, all time supportive man in his relationship and just a great guy in general and it makes me so mad to see people treat him terribly in the fandom

don't get me wrong, i adore aelin too, but it's frustrating to see her always be the angel in fics and make rowan do all the shit, because that's not how their relationship was, that's not how either of their characters were and it just feels very unfair 🥲

he deserves more than to be treated like the scapegoat for every problem, or the reason why a relationship fails, or the one that should be begging for forgiveness in every situation 🥲 my poor buzzard deserves better than that

i feel like he so easily gets written ooc for the sake of drama and it's incredibly sad to see 🥲

What kinds of experiments do you often run? Do you have any successful ones that you'd like to talk about?

(OOC: you'd best believe i am pulling directly from my current postgrad chemistry degree experience for this, i am so excited)

Aha! You've activated my chemistry trap card! I hope you're ready for a load of technical jargon... (but feel free to ask questions/reblog with questions!) I'll stick this under the read more, as I've a feeling I might go on a bit of a ramble here.

So! As you may have read on my blog, I'm currently working with the toxins produced by Croagunk and Toxicroak, two Poison type Pokémon that are native here in Sinnoh.

"But Emi," you may ask, "what does that have to do with evolution? We thought Professor Rowan's research revolved around Pokémon evolution?". My sweet summer Deerling, allow me to explain. (I'm so sorry, in advance.)

The main focus of my research is analysing the chemical components of the Croagunk line's toxins using analytical techniques such as NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) imaging to determine the structures of the molecules, or even just to determine if there's more than one type of molecule in the sample I'm analysing. Then, if there's more than one molecule, I'll usually perform a TLC (Thin Layer Chromatography) experiment to determine how many types of molecule are in the sample and what kind of solvent system is best to separate them when I eventually run a column to obtain individual samples of molecules. Then I'll run NMR on the individual samples again to determine the individual molecule's structures.

After that it's usually time for a bit of theory. I try and perform a retrosynthesis on the compounds to see how I could synthesise them in the lab. Then, I procure my chemicals and get going! If the synthesis is successful, I analyse it again by NMR at the end to see if I've made what I wanted - and if I have? Time to celebrate!

From here, I usually test the toxins on cell samples or samples of specific enzymes to see exactly what they effect in the bodies of Pokémon and humans. Once I know this (or once I’ve checked it in existing literature), I can model the enzymes’ active sites and develop a competitive molecule to prevent the toxin molecules from binding and causing the poison effect. Therefore, long story short, I’m developing custom antidotes to Croagunk and Toxicroak poisons!

“But Emi,” you may still cry, “We still don’t know what this has to do with evolution!”. Don’t worry! That part comes now.

By comparing the toxins found in Croagunk’s poison to the toxins in Toxicroak’s poison, I can determine how the molecules change during evolution and thus determine a chemical link between the two stages of evolution in the Croagunk line! Put simply, this lets me look at evolution as though it is a chemical reaction - much simpler than studying the whole Pokémon! The Professor thinks that maybe once I have a wider body of data and evidence (and maybe a few papers published), I might be able to broaden my studies to see if I could synthesise other “evolutionary substances”.

Unfortunately I can’t tell you the specifics on those, since that research is top secret to the Professor’s research group for now!

World's Spirited! My @infamous-if mc's band!!!

Rambling warning!

I wanted to do something cute with the band but also show the closeness of them. So i did the only thing i got in mind... Cuddle Pile! Or, well, a looser version of it? This is something i do very often with my group of very close friends, and it always feels like one of the most intimate things we do, so i thought it would fit. Sadly i think my drawing (or atleast the shi**y coloring) doesn't do justice to the scene i had in mind. I was really hoping the picture would give off as cozy and intimate.

Also, just pointing out some details (this is gonna be long):

-I porposely draw August a bit away from the group because i could see them still feeling a bit like an outsider and might think they're still not close enough to them. But the rest of the band ofcourse try to show that's not true, hence Rowan reaching out to grab the back of their hoodie.

-Yes, the one sitting with a laptop is 100% Orion. I know there would NEVER be a chance for him to join in so i like the thought of the band coming to HIM instead so HE is stuck with THEM lmao, cause Ori is part of the band (no matter what he say) and there is no way in hell i'm not including him.

-And about Iris' pajamas, i... don't know why i even put her in pink??? I think i remember Amy saying she dress in all black? But i just couldn't get it out of my mind, so if it's a bit OOC, just imagine it given to her as a gift from the others (with a quip along the lines of so that she'll match with Devyn or something).

-Also, if it isn't obvious, Iris is laying her head on Rowan's thigh. And because i want to show their closeness in more than just them laying on top of eachother, i thought Iris trying to pull the blanket my mc is laying on top of to cover them up is a pretty clever way of showcasing it subtly.

-I previously wanted to draw Iris and Devyn spooning. But one of the point of this drawing is to show that platonics relationship can be just as intimate as a romantic one, and so i want to show they are as comfortable to other members of the band as they are to eachother.

-Also, i was wondering for a bit wether i should draw them doing this in the bus or in the hotel room, but i was too lazy to draw all sorts of furniture to show that it is a hotel room so bus it is! Tho the size of the bus probably doesn't make sense. Too wide and spacey to be true.

-And since this is in the bus... I could only imagine what seven must've feel/look like if they accidentally stumble into this...😈😈😈

Introduction

Hi !! I’m Rowan, also known as Jan. Although, if you’re involved in the UK Coaster Character scene, you probably already knew that. I’ve just moved blogs so that I can put together some more accurate character files and the first cohesive timeline of the Island Initiative.  So what’s this all about? Well, the Island Initiative is a concept I came up with for a world in which Thorpe, rather than being a theme park, is a safe-zone for survivors at the end of the world. I love apocalyptic fiction so much, particularly The Magnus Archives, so you’ll probably notice some influences from that in here. I guess I should probably tell you a bit about me, while I’m here. I’ve been a coaster enthusiast since 2016, although I’ve been going to the parks since 2008, so I’m a bit of an old-timer around these parts (well, not really, but you get the idea). Here’s some quick-fire facts about my coaster credentials.
