15/11/2024 - WSH @ COL
Dubois when asked about linemate Connor McMichael -> (˵ ‘• v •`˵)
You've got a front row seat to what Connor's done. What's gone into him having the heater that he's on right now? Yeah, it's - I don't want it to stop, nobody does, especially me and - and Tom, I think, so, whatever he needs we're there for him. Um, I had my hands up in the air, I thought he had that one at the end, but, when you're hot it's just a matter of time, so, y'know he missed that one but he'll get one - hopefully he'll get one next game.

(1889)
Dream: You dare--
Hob, launching into Spike's speech from Cowboy Bebop: I love the kind of man that will actually just kill me. You know, when I left my house today, I was thinking, "Damn, I really hope my Stranger paints my brains all over the White Horse Tavern." And here we are. I mean, really, just absolutely destroy me. (the speech escalates from here and goes on for like 45 seconds more)
Dream, riveted from beginning to end, and who is actually into that shit: *is now looking at Hob like he did in 1789*
Hob, a morosexual in love with a morosexual: Now that that's over with, can you please sit back down so I can tell you how much I want to kiss you tenderly under the moonlight?

Yesterday I wrote like 5k words basically on accident in the span of a few hours because I got done making like two phone calls and was sitting somewhere comfy (my art room, that I have) and went, well, I could put a couple of words into this, and then I just forgot to stop.

Hey sorry if this isn't....really your thing? I mean it kinda is tangentially!
The National Park Service is looking for people who can read English Cursive, to help them transcribe old records from the Revolutionary War!
You can also help them by tagging old pictures and articles (I know a lot of people here would be really good at that!) to help with searches
They have instructions and even short little videos you can watch to learn how best to help them! Idk seemed like a fun thing some people might wanna help with! There's apparently close to 8 million (iirc) records and they say some of them are really fascinating!
Here's the link to the announcement:
https://www.nationalparkstraveler.org/2025/01/can-you-read-cursive-national-park-service-wants-hear-you
thank you! I fully cannot read writing from that era, but maybe someone else can

sorry to ask, but can you explain your last post to someone who knows nothing about the musician community youre talking about... it sounds like a really really good post if i just understood it better
this is another one of those posts where I'm transcribing a stream of consciousness, so I'll throw in a courtesy readmore
the musician community, as a whole, is much more segmented than the visual artist community
this leads to good and bad things, but generally it allows for more awareness of one's position and an acknowledgement that the needs of an underground folk artist are going to be different than the needs of a composer who receives a name credit. this means there is always going to be heavy pushback when someone tries to impose ethics downward
one element of this is the inward acknowledgement that the monolithic musician community isn't actually real in a way that isn't really mirrored in the visual artist community. besides making music and navigating the financial (and legal) landscape of that, there is very little that intrinsically unites musicians
this acknowledgement allows discussions about concerns among poorer musicians to exist without being completely shut down by someone who has different concerns, because they're not seen as the subject of the discussion unless they are respectfully contributing to it
one big reason for this being possible is that musicians are less respected than visual artists in the professional world
that might sound absurd if you only know of one landscape, but think of how many game (and movie, and tv, and etc. etc. etc.) franchises with identity-defining composers go on to swap out the composer at the first sign of a labour dispute, to very little protest as long as the quality of music isn't seen as dropping
hell, if someone else can copy your style satisfactorily, there's often no fuss at all! this leads to a pretty violent disillusionment with your place in the creative world
even beyond that, there exists an entire industry based around creating a parasitic body of IP landlordism for anyone whose music isn't attached to another product. the musician is, in a way that is deeply and thoroughly beaten into them, a labourer
the visual artist community (until recently) didn't tend to have this disillusionment, so it often follows the sway of its most popular and established members
in fact, the modern visual artist community as a broad cultural body is carved almost entirely from social media discussions that treat the community as one entity. accordingly, becoming established basically requires participation in this online entity
to further poison the well, the position of a visual artist is regularly talked about in spiritual terms rather than labour terms. there is something special that makes you a visual artist. it's the exact mentality that people rightfully made fun of in those ordinary people vs creative people comics. it's the unspoken cultural assumption that natural talent exists, even if most people would deny believing in it if put into explicit terms
while this does feel very good, it means that acknowledging labour-originated conflicts of interest is a bit rude
when a community unites itself around a spiritual core, it can't properly assert "your experiences are not applicable to what is being discussed and you should not be imposing yourself" because, by all metrics, an artist is a fundamentally unique demographic that can speak in all conversations about art
it's a warped form of anti-gatekeeping, a one-way gate through which you can strike down at other poor artists, but not up, enforced from below and framed as a desire for openness
the visual artist community's relative homogenisation of popular consensus is, on the whole, very very very bad for what it does to its norms. it hashes out and legislates within itself with an unspoken assumption that its most prolific members are simply further along the artist lifecycle, and therefore the most trustworthy
discussions with direct parallels ("is it okay to be obviously influenced by someone else's style?") come to much hazier conclusions which lean towards the opinions held by people with the most followers
most egregiously, this manifested in how visual artists react to piracy
the past ten years (in large part because of patreon making viable the paywalling of material behind a regular subscription) have been consumed by arguments about piracy that all seem to terminate in the assumption that piracy is theft, with little stratification of opinion between the hobbyist and professional scenes on this matter
this assumed spiritual core of the community is felt strongly in every conversation. look at the difference in attitudes around the distribution of cracked VSTs and the distribution of brush packs. hell, even on the corporate level, look at the difference in attitudes around pirating DAWs vs visual art programs
even when people are implying an approval of piracy, they find ways to frame it from a position of revenge on a company for something wrong it did, because they still need to conform to the community understanding of piracy as theft
individual visual artists can be (and often are!) more conscious of this stuff, but even then, people react with shock when these visual artists aren't horribly concerned about the possibility of their paywalled work existing on a torrent site
in a word, if you can see the ways these conversation spaces are different and similar, it's all so exhausting

ISAT's script is finished!
Tumblr media
With this page, one year and nearly three months after it began, we're officially concluding ISAT's script. It's done. (Hopefully) every single ounce of text to be found on ISAT has been dutifully transcribed and put up for your reading pleasure.
Is this the end of the ISAT Script Project?
In short: No!
In long: Not for a while yet. We've still got START AGAIN: a prologue left to cover, and there's been interest at looking at In Stars and Time DEMO as well, since that features some exclusive scenes that may be interesting to all.
In addition to that, Gold has been looking into whether we can make the site bilingual, and also host the japanese script! Newcomer to the squad LunarDusk has been hammering out the search engine you've all been waiting for, and I no longer have any excuse to put off my fantranslation of ISAT into german. (Though that wouldn't be on this website, exactly.)
So you're stuck with us a little longer! Just a moment longer, a second longer... Hehe.
Thank you, everyone, for all your love and support in this project!
It cannot be understated how motivating it was (and is) to know how the fandom has come to love this project. Just seeing stray screenshots of it, seeing fanworks quote obscure game text en-masse, and to know we've helped you love this wonderful game even more by picking it apart, warms my heart.
This is, statisically speaking, the most impactful thing I have ever made, in my life.
And now, it's perhaps time for me to stop hogging the spotlight and let the other wonderful folks without whom I wouldn't have gotten this far speak:
From @goldstargloww (aka: Gold), who is responsible for the site looking as pretty as it does:
this has been really fun :D! i love that despite my social anxiety i'm somehow fine dming random people on the internet asking them questions, because that's exactly what i did here, and it's gotten me involved in some really cool projects :> i've learned a lot coding-wise and i've been able to make things i'm proud of and it's overall just been really fun. i love seeing the script project in the wild it's so fun, i love being part of projects that help a lot of people and make them happy, this is also probably the most impactful thing i've done in my life and it's been really fun and i've learned a lot :D
From @onenightbreak (aka: Wren), who is responsible for many wonderful beautiful pages:
ISAT defeated!!! the other folks on the script project have been lovely to work with, and i've had a lot of fun crawling through isat and contributing to the project! skill acquired: it student now knows how to use git XD i have to agree with feli and gold, seeing the script in the wild and knowing how widespread it is for the fandom is crazy, and it's been amazing being part of this <3
Many thanks also to @candycoatedrox (aka: Molly) who made a huge chunk of pages alongside Wren, and without whom this all would've taken much longer than it did. And thanks to Vixia Raine, for catching so many typos and random mistakes. Just. So many.

Jimin's thoughts are 오밀조밀
Long time no see! Today I'm bringing over a cute conversation between i-kookminers and k-kkms on Twitter. The lovely @goldenhickeysandramen sent it my way yesterday, and we woke up to replies from korean jikookers explaining the cultural context behind JK's words in a w-live. I found it so cute I couldn't not bring it to your attention here.
The first post was made by someone curious about why korean fans found this JK clip so adorable.
Tumblr media
The phrase OP was pointing out is the following (JK's 27/03/23 live, min 51:51):
확실히 이게 사람마다 생각하는 게 많이 달라. Certainly, the way every person thinks is very different. 지민 형의 생각이 약간 오밀조밀하는 거 같아. Jimin hyung's way of thinking is a bit meticulous. 오밀조밀하다기보다 엄청 뭐라해야 될까… Well, more than meticulous, how should I say it...
(he didn't finish his thoughts LOL he went on a tangent after this :'))
The word he used to describe Jimin's way of thinking is 오밀조밀 (/oh-mil-cho-mil/). This word is a little difficult to translate because it's a 고사성어 (故事成語), aka a 4-letter-idiom that typically comes from ancient Korean literature or history.
(Before the invention of hangeul, the korean alphabet we all know, Korean used Chinese characters (also known as hanja) to transcribe Korean words and sounds. The heritage of this tradition can be found in words like this, or in the use of hanja in newspapers. Let me know if you want to know more about this!)
오밀조밀 is made up of these 4 characters: 奧密稠密.
means deep, 密 means tight or dense (fun fact, it's one of the two characters that makes up the word 'secret', so it also has the meaning of 'hidden'. Secret in korean is 비밀 /bimil/ or ひみつ /himitsu/ in japanese, 秘密) and 稠 also means thick or dense.
But what does this word actually mean? Why did Jungkook using it cause so much fuzz?
Like OP and other korean fans have said, it's used to describe tightly packed, or delicate and meticulous things.
Tumblr media
When I first saw the clip, I agreed with JK. Jimin's extreme attention to detail and delicate and catious thinking, both as an artist and a person, can surely evoke this word. I'd only ever seen that word used to describe someone's facial features, in one of those highly specific and slightly funny ways that Koreans have to compliment someone's physical traits, but I didn't think twice about JK's choice of words.
However, cultural nuance is so important and it cracked the code for me. Here's an explanation:
Tumblr media
As you can see, the word still holds that delicate and tight meaning, but it's not used for abstract things such as thoughts. If you look up the hanja dictionary, it describes "a refined and detailed appearance regarding craftsmanship and skill/a very meticulous and detailed appearance." Synonyms include words like 'cute' and 'pretty' (아기자기 is one of them, which means small and cute, baby-like. Isn't that the most Jimin word you've ever heard??).
Like I told @goldenhickeysandramen, nobody knows (or loves) Jimin better than JK. So, yeah, of course Jungkook thinks that Jimin is 오밀조밀, despite how unconventional it may sound. Even his thoughts are pretty to him. 🥺💖

Javi steals your lunch
@sin-djarin made a fun little poll about what Pedro boy would be most likely to steal your lunch. I reblogged it with a thought about Javi P stealing the lunch and it turned into a whole fic idea so here's 800 words about Javi stealing your lunch and paying for it.
Tumblr media
“I can’t fucking believe it….” you muttered under your breath, scanning the shelves in the break room fridge. Your carefully prepared salad, grilled chicken, avocado, fresh tomatoes and quesito colombiano your sweet next door neighbor had given you, was gone.
Vanished.
The spot in the fridge where you’d placed the tupperware this morning as you came into the office was empty. As were the other shelves, only a few leftover beers from an office party and some milk for the coffee.
“Anna, have you seen my salad? Or seen anyone eating a salad?”
Your co-worker had come in behind you, holding her own sandwich, and you sighed again as she peered into the fridge.
“No, did someone take it? I swear this fridge is never safe to leave food in, someone always steals it,” she said, shaking her head.
“We work at the damn US Embassy, you’d think people would be honest enough to not steal a salad,” you grumbled, slamming the fridge door shut, “I’m going out to grab something for lunch, I’ll see you later.”
One sad lunch hour later, you came back to your desk still in a foul mood. It wasn’t lifted by the fact that you had a mountain of work to go through as a result of a successful raid the day before. Always endless red tape and transcribing to do when the DEA team caught up with one of Pablo Escobar’s sicarios. You dreaded the day they actually caught Escobar, you’d be drowning in paperwork.
The afternoon dragged along and at five you stretched your back and headed for the coffee machine, you had just turned the corner when you saw it.
Your tupperware.
On Javier fucking Peña’s fucking desk…
You felt your temper rise as you stalked over to it and snatched it off the desk. The man himself was nowhere in sight, but he’d clearly been enjoying your salad, a fork sat on top and a few sad lettuce leaves remained.
“Fucking asshole!” you snarled to the nearly empty office, but no one paid any attention to your mutterings. With a firm grip on the tupperware, you went back to the break room and washed the box out, still fuming as you tossed the dish cloth on the counter.
“Cariño, why the frown?”
You spun on your heel and glared at the man casually leaning against the door frame with a crooked smile, an unlit cigarette dangling from his fingers.
“You!” you snapped, waving the empty, and now clean, tupperware at him, “You stole my lunch, asshole!”
He did have the decency to look a little bit ashamed, those stupid baby cow eyes widening as the smile slipped from his lips.
“Cariño…that was yours? I thought it was leftovers and I was so damn hungry…”
“It was my leftovers, Peña! My leftovers!”
You shoved passed him, attempting to push him aside as you squeezed through half the door frame, the other half blocked by him, but you were just met with a solid shoulder under his black leather jacket.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking, I got back from this thing and I was getting milk for the coffee and it just looked so good.”
He was following you down the hallway now, reached out and took hold of your arm, gently forcing you to stop just outside the evidence room.
“Hermosa….” he cooed, letting his hand slip down your arm so that he could take yours and put it against his chest in a pleading gesture,   “Don’t be mad at me, I’m really sorry, and the salad was delicious. I had no idea you were such a good cook.”
He had you backed up against the wall, standing close enough so that you could smell the cigarettes and coffee on his breath, warm aftershave and the faint smell of sweat after a long day. It was impossible to not look up into his warm, brown eyes, eyebrows pulled together as he pleaded with you to forgive him.
“It’s a salad, not exactly difficult,” you replied, fighting to keep the scowl on your face as the corner of his lips pulled up into a smile, his hand closing a little bit tighter around yours. He knew he'd won you over as he tilted his head to the side and let his gaze drop down to your lips.
“Still, I should make it up to you somehow…” he said, and you’re not sure how he did it, but somehow he’d opened the door to the evidence room and pulled you inside, his arm slipping down to curl around your waist as he shut you both in with the other.
“Peña…” you said, trying to collect your thoughts, but it came out breathless as your anger at him melted away with every slow caress of his large hand over your back.
“Javi,” he mumbled, leaning down close to your neck and placing a feather light kiss just under your ear, “it’s Javi while I fuck you.”
