17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?

“Ship that’s not your favorite and you’re not fine with it” or “ship that’s not your favorite but you’re fine with it”? Oh golly it’s early and I’m confusing myself. I think it reads mostly the second option so I’m kind of going with that.

I’m like… such a multishipper so this question is a brain burner for me lmaooo. I suppose I’m just not that seriously into the Zorc ships, including Zorc n Ryou, aside from the haha funny jokes here and there? Which. I think most of the content I’ve seen for them over the years has been haha hehe jokes, aside from the usual outlier here or there. A serious portrayal of a Zorc ship just gets me going “???” and like. Reconsidering my life choices LMAO but not in a bad way not in a bad way. I just don’t see it seriously. I have yet to be convinced on it

Yes Ryou would probably be into the whole monster otherworldly thing but I don’t believe Zorc capable of anything except obsession if he at all deviates from the universe destruction rage LMAOOO which could be funny if tackled right in a comedic fic so that gives this ship a full neutral from me!!

LIKE. I WOULD WANNA SAY YES CUZ HE'S LOADED. GUY WHO CAN PAY FOR A NICE VACATION and from what we can tell pretty tidy! keeps a clean house! But his workaholic attitude might would drive me insane. type of roommate always badgering you into doing some sort of extremely physically-taxing sport or activity. like. dude im sorry i dont wanna go windsurfing with you right now i have work.

6. what's something you have in common with this character: the emotional whiplash when things arent going great. nonchalant "oh well! whatever!" into "fuck no i dont want this this cant be happening" into "if i destroy myself it wont be like this anymore that has to be the only option left here" & just cycle through those. i get her i really do. also as a joke answer we both like that angel.

If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like? (Tracey)

I love so many things about writing Tracey, but I think the best thing is getting to take what canon has given us and extrapolate on it--there's a lot of uncharted territory with his character and I like getting to explore it! His history before meeting Ash and Misty is a total blank slate, and Chronicles showed us a little of what his life is like as Professor Oak's assistant and his dynamic with the Oaks, but there's still a lot of untapped potential and that's very fun for me.

The hardest part of writing him though is that characterization through narrative voice is one of my favorite things ever, and it is difficult with him because he seems like he'd be a very visual person and the way I write is generally... not very in line with that. I have some degree of aphantasia and think pretty much entirely in words, so I have a really hard time with describing visual things.

What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them? (Gary)

Lars Barriga from Steven Universe sounds so much like Gary sometimes despite having different VAs, and they have some character traits in common--acting like an asshole to hide fear and insecurity, a history of picking on a childhood friend, trying too hard to be seen as cool and tough, but taking a level in kindness and really coming into their own later. I have an animatic in mind that I would love to make if I could commit to all the drawing I'd have to do.

favorite places you've traveled

I mean, Japan wins out over everything else. I spent two weeks there and it was honestly the happiest two weeks of my life. Not just because of the amazing places I got to see (such as Himeji Castle, Nara and the temple there, etc), but also because my sleep schedule actually fits a diurnal schedule over there, so I was well-rested. I was eating well and getting plenty of exercise walking around. Japan is clean and the default there seems to be to treat people with respect. Like people naturally don't hog the whole escalator, for the most part there wasn't any litter, most people kept smoking to the designated smoking areas, etc. It's a big contrast from here in the States where you'll see people chuck giant plastic cups out of the car window, or put their luggage on either side of them on the escalator at the airport so you can't pass them, and cigarette smoke just wafts from restaurant patios and the like. And like, here I can't walk around at night because I've been stalked that way, but in Japan that wasn't really a concern at all, even when we accidentally went through the red light district trying to get to Baskin Robbins. It was just a really beautiful place and I miss it a lot.

Having said that though, I also did a road trip to the Grand Canyon with my best friend and I have to say that everything that has been said about it (positive) is true. Like it is breathtakingly gorgeous. You don't really think it could be that beautiful until you are actually there, and it is. And because there's basically no artificial light around, at night we were able to go out and see BILLIONS of stars. As well as two planets with the naked eye! It was one of the most astounding experiences I've ever had, and I want to go back someday when I'm in better shape and can actually do some hiking. (We just walked around the rim, which was still wonderful, but I want mooooore.)

how do you come up with the fics you write

It really depends! Usually it's just whatever I feel like I'm in the mood for in the sense that, this is something I wish would happen in the games / show / comic / whatever, but it hasn't happened, so then I need to make it happen myself. Or this is something I think will happen next, for things still on-going, so I write based on that. I also have opened prompt memes before, and actually my 100k magnum opus for YGO was written because someone sent me a prompt that I was like, "how can I fill this but still make it IC," and the fic spawned from there. So it really just depends! Inspiration can come from the wildest places sometimes.

5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?

Everyone wants to know the songs!! Side question I'll make, in general I believe that the vibes for the band Phoenix are right up Drew's alley. Alternative synth-pop French band. They even have a song called Trying To Be Cool!!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

That he'd like Phoenix sjgf ummmmmm I've written a fic that touches on some backstory stuff I made up. I like the idea that at his fancy LaRousse home he met Roselia as a Budew in the greenhouse they had. So they had plenty of time to bond and practice and for her to evolve even before he could start competing in contests. He will be the 18 year old with 10 years experience that all companies desire.

21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

I don't write much because I hate having to pin down and stick to a dynamic between two characters or a backstory. I am one of those people where I have 394 blorbo universes in my head that are equally valid! But they aren't very expansive. So that intimidates me from writing a lot about characters like Drew because I feel pressured to choose one path to develop really well. Scary! Because I think he has so much potential in different directions...like an eevee 🥺 I wanna write something about him and Absol one day...itstimetodrew multiverse perhaps.

But overall I just love writing about his internal view of things! He's a character that keeps to himself but is very perceptive. And I'm the writer that loves to spend paragraph upon paragraph on inner thoughts and backstory between snippets of dialogue hehe
