I am absolutely OBSESSED with the Imperator breed I would be so grateful for any scrap of info you wish to spare 🙏🙏🙏 Atrocitas is GORGEOUS
Thank you!!! And trust me if I weren't working 12-hour shifts I'd have already posted a full ref sheet alongside the roi-de-vitesse one 😔
But i can share some notes for now
Additional note: their breed name comes from the shape of their tail featuring a leaf-shaped blade resembling the spear used by soldiers during the early Roman Republic
Also their classification of heavyweight is based on Roman era standards and for a good portion of the early middle ages when dragons were smaller. In the modern era (at the time of Skies over Jura and canon Temeraire) they're comparable to a large middleweight
Here's some concept art that's already slightly outdated but I haven't managed to draw more yet
Do you have a Ganondorf pov for the fealty swearing scene when he sees link and Zelda through the window?
SO!! Yes and No, and I'm so so sorry because you activated my trap card and this is one of my favorite things and I need to talk about how great this scene is in terms of narrative design.
So, in OoT, that is (as far as I know) not a scene of him pledging fealty. It was referenced in that scene in TotK, but in OoT, Zelda's dialogue indicates that he's already sworn allegiance to her father by then, and she's warned her father about her dreams, which he does not believe.
But in terms of narrative it is so economical and successful in introducing the villain and very subtly setting up your expectations for him. He's on screen for what, ten seconds? But between that and Zelda's dialogue, that very short scene tells us, the player, the two key factors:
1 - Because he's already sworn fealty, he is at the castle for an audience with the king, and if he is walking into the chamber when you arrive in the garden, it means Ganondorf got to Hyrule just before we, the player, did, which sets up the recurring story point that Ganondorf is always one step ahead of you.
2 - Him looking over at the window tells us, the audience, that he can see us. He doesn't know who Link is, as a person, in the game, but as the player, he's aware of us, and he will continue to be perfectly aware of us and exactly what we're doing throughout the remainder of the game, to the point that he uses it against us.
And I know this is absolutely NOT what you asked but I love narrative design so much, and when it comes to establishing things very quickly, this is one of my favorite scenes to reference, because as long-winded as the legend explainers are, they set up Ganondorf's mechanic within the narrative so quickly and effectively, and I just love it to death.
But I will have to draw both his fealty scene and his pov of the window scene separately at some point, yes lol
kk2 and kk3 really make you appreciate the simplicity of kk1. like johnny lawrence was literally just some guy meanwhile chozen is ziplining down a string of lanterns to murder daniel and his crush and terry silver is out here psychologically torturing the poor dude. johnny's goal was to beat the shit out of him because daniel was annoying and johnny was a mean kid who liked karate a little too much and i can almost respect that.
i can't get over fukuchi referring to aya as "one of jouno's men" like.. what. jouno has one friend (who he pretends he hates) and three coworkers (who he only likes on certain days) and doesn't talk to anyone else besides criminals he's psychologically tormenting. where are these "men" jouno supposedly has. tell me fukuchi. you think he has people bowing to his every whim, apart from tecchou? you think he has people besides tecchou who like him? don't get me wrong, i adore jouno. but he isn't a likable person. he hates people. he's extremely antisocial. he only depends on himself - that's the whole reason he fails in his fight against fukuchi. the only army he'd ever command would be one someone else gave him reign over. where would he be getting these men from. in four days, no less. why does fukuchi seem to think he's formed an entire coup. how long has jouno been working under you? how long have you known him? yeah maybe next time pay more attention to the people right next to you who could become your enemies instead of being jealous fukuzawa chose parenthood over being your war bf.
Those atdi era Cedric voicemails really remind me of this
the energy he has in those voicemails is so hilarious but fucking terrifying because what do you mean that freak was just walking around in the world
sorry that was really mean actually I just meant that his word choice and tendency for strange impressions back then was slightly neurotic and I'm surprised nobody took him out back to be shot
SORRY for real this time I mean it that was really really cruel of me he is whimsical and special and utterly ridiculous HIT HIM WITH A BRICK HIT HIM WITH A BRICK HIT HIM WITH A BRICK HIT HIM WITH A BRICK
some grown ass adults are so obsessed with ‘humbling’ children like girl . im begging you to consider suicide at this point. that one person who said everyone says they have childhood trauma and then treat every child in their life like dirt was so right
I should make a list of wc super editions that i straight up don’t consider canon. like “no this did not happen to those characters growing up, stop lying”. Mostly Yellowfang’s Secret. Everything about Yellowfang’s Secret. I think we should all collectively look at Yellowfang’s Secret and go “None of that happened, not the family tree stuff, none of it.” and walk away
Back on my bullshit (by which I mean, in this case, both "Skyrim" and "being unhinged about fraught father figure relationships even when they're not all that central to the narrative") but. Occasionally I think about how what we see of Arngeir's characterization beyond generic mystical mentor type is basically that of a guy with a naturally hot temper who, over the course of a long life spent meditating in a monastery, has painstakingly learned (though not mastered!) the art of chilling the fuck out or at least graciously apologizing (even as that same cloistered religious lifestyle has probably also fueled a bit of a stubborn/dogmatic streak).
And then I think about what this potentially suggests re: his feelings toward noted local stubborn intemperate hothead Ulfric Stormcloak (y'know, the guy who broke all their previously-shared religious vows yet still deferentially refers to him as "Master Arngeir") and go ever so slightly insane
Imagine speaking up against bullying when RBR employees kids were allegedly being bullied because of the cost cap breach and when people were criticising Sophie for childishly bringing up Checo's infidelity in a situation that doesnt even involeve her but then bullying Ted Kravitz because 'he deserves it' and Claire Holt because she's 'tired of max winning all the time' and because she said 'he's a grouchy baby'. Like the HYPOCRISY actually fuc*king stinks. And also if that offends you enough to BULLY someone with a different opinion imagine what we felt when Max used ableist slurs and apparently we were the villains for trying to be like 'wtf that's wrong'.
