Omg hi! I'm a new follower and I just read your piece of the hazbin cast w/ reader having a panic attack and it was so sweet 🥺If possible could you maybe do the same cast of characters but with what they would do if the reader was on their period/period comfort?
Awww, thank you! yes!! Of course!! ☺️💘✨
taking care of you on your period || hazbin x reader
With Alastor, Lucifer, Charlie, Vaggie, Husk, Angel Dust, and Vox
tags: fluff, comfort, afab gn!reader, I decided to go with ftm for angel in this to try it out (lmk what you think!!) :3, periods in Hell are worse than on Earth I feel like that fits, suggestiveness in luci's || Minors don't interact!
Tumblr media
Alastor
"Oh, dear, why are you curled up on the floor in the fetal position? Are you hurt? I smell blood." Alastor coos in crackling static. He nods his head, listening to you explain despite you being facedown in said carpet. He'll procure a hot water bottle for your tummy, some aspirin, and some bitter, dark chocolate. He'll even go get one of those sugary iced coffees you love so much. Given the circumstances, Alastor may even allow you to touch his ears, but his mindful of his antlers if you know what's good for you.
Lucifer
Oh no, his poor sweetheart! The King of Hell goes full Mama Goose mode (you can see where Charlie gets it from) and hunts down whatever he thinks you may need. He'll create a little nest fort for you, spooning you from behind and nuzzling his face in the crook of your neck. He's also not opposed of other ways of relief. In Lucifer's own wise words, "Bow-chick-a-wow-wow." (As long as you're up for it, he's not opposed to giving Charlie a sibling.)
Charlie
She's on it instantaneously! Running around scavaging all sorts of items from tampons to pads to candies-- she's not sure of your preferences, so she gets all of them! Only the best for her sweetie pie!! Huddles extraaaa close to you in your shared blanket cocoon, feeding you chocolates and giving you sweet nuzzles.
Vaggie
Immediately sends you off for a hot bath while she changes and washes the sheets so that they're nice, warm, and fresh. She also will prepare your favorite pajamas and snacks, digging through some films for one to watch. Vaggie will do what she can to make sure you're well-rested, hydrated, and most importantly; comfortable.
Husk
Immediately goes to the women of the hotel and asks about what sort of toiletries the hotel has to offer. He's discreet about your situation and grateful for their help. He wants you to feel better as soon as possible even if that means your symptoms haven't fully gone away yet! The scent of blood is strong on you and if he can notice you from a mile away, he's certain others have too. So, he creates a little nest for you two, the bar is closed down for the day, and cuddles you close to his chest.
Angel Dust
He'll spoon you from behind, resting his warm hand on your tummy. From what Cherri has told him, this shit's worse than when you guys were alive. Hell really does have a hard-on for torturing people. Angel will be as vigilant as he can, getting you whatever you may need, reassuring you gently that just because you have your period doesn't change who you are as a person nor how you idenitify. You're you, no matter what your body does or doesn't do.
Vox

What's that? Oh, shit, that's when you-- yeah? Oh, okay got it. That sounds like that sucks. Yeah, he doesn't mind grabbing some things for you but he's a bit stiff when it comes to comfort. He knows what it is for sure and he'll do his best. Velvette might tear him a new asshole. He does genuinely want you to feel better, he doesn't like seeing you in pain. He's just a little lost.

Simeon never knew that he could feel this way about someone.
What he felt exactly, he couldn't say. He couldn't put a finger on it— couldn't put it into words if asked. If he had to describe it, he'd probably say it was something that made him feel like his heart would leap out of his chest with its intense and rapid beating, something that made him want to be close to you, something that made him want to follow you to the ends of the Devildom and back (which may have been literal on some explorative occasions).
Either way, there was one thing this angel knew for a fact.
He had to have you.
This sense of possessiveness started out small. He would follow you around all day, walk you home most nights, and wonder what you were up to when he wasn't by your side. It was always so curious to him how a little human such as yourself suddenly became a being he held of higher regard and importance than Michael, though he'd never tell his higher-up such information.
However, it didn't take long for this obsession to grow.
Simeon was convinced that this was his Father's plan. That he was meant to feel this way about you, that you were meant to be his. Every night, he'd find himself praying, not only for your well-being and fortune, but also for a romantic relationship to blossom from your friendship.
It was the word of the Father, of course.
What God has joined together, let no man seperate. We must guard our union, so that the outside world cannot seperate it.
He has to protect you, no matter what. Especially from the vile lower demons that want a piece of you. Simeon wouldn't dare even think of harming one of the brothers, they were his brothers once, too; Nor did he believe that any of your friends should be hurt. But those that you were uncomfortable with? Those that you didn't know on a personal level? Those that wanted you? Their vary existence was sinful.
They must be cleansed.

"Simeon, what is this?"
Your voice was so sweet. It made him feel weak in the knees. Though, he couldn't afford to lose his composure now. Not when he'd finally mustered up the courage to ask you out on a date.
Well, it was a date you were unaware of. But he put his everything into it! You might as well think of it as such out of appreciation!
The angel smiled, motioning toward the empty seat in front of him. He'd managed to convince the owner of this restaurant to place a table on the second-floor balcony. He wanted to be able to see how the moonlight made your features glow.
Simeon had told you to dress formally for this dinner, but you didn't expect the setting to be this fancy! To say you were excited was an understatement.
You sat down in front of him, clasping your hands together as you tried to process your surroundings. "Wow, Simeon, this is truly amazing... I can't thank you enough, but I am curious about the occasion," You ask softly, a small blush forning on your face.
The angel chuckled softly, lifting one of his hands to gently caress the petal on one of the roses that the vase in the middle of the table held. "One as divine as yourself must be treated to such things, wouldn't you agree?" His voice sounded so sweet to your ears, reminding you of the vanilla sweets he and Luke would bake for you.
"Hi, welcome to... MC?"
You snapped your head to the side, looking up at the waiter approaching your table. Your face paled as you recognized the familiar demon standing before you. It was an incubus that had hit on you recently, the only one you didn't tell Simeon about. "Toran?" You murmured softly, earning a nod from the waiter. "Where have you been? Why haven't you responded to any of my texts, huh? You too good for me or somethin'?" The demon before you suddenly became more aggressive than you felt comfortable dealing with. Simeon could sense your growing discomfort and stood, approaching the waiter. "Excuse me, I don't believe this is appropriate conduct for someone in your position, may I request we get another waiter?" He asked, earning a scoff from the demon whose name he couldn't bother to remember. "Hey, I'm not talking to you, yeah? Why don't you-" "Toran!" You shouted, catching the attention of both of the gentlemen before you. "I... I gave you the wrong number, I'll give it to you. Please, just leave us alone, yes?"
Simeon's face contorted into that of a disgusted look, one that you didn't see.
Why the hell were you even entertaining the idea of giving your information to this asshole? You were supposed to be with him, not this foul demonic garbage. "That won't be necessary, MC," Simeon said with a warm smile, the demon turning to face him. "What the hell do you-" "I'd like to request a change in waiters, please. I don't think you'd want your higher-ups to know about this, so I suggest you do everything you can to make things right!"
He truly was angelic, wasn't he?
You couldn't help but smile a bit, feeling your heart thump against your chest as your cheeks heated up. You looked away for a moment, trying to calm yourself down.
Simeon glanced at you before he roughly grabbed the waiter by his collar and pulled him close. "It'd be in your best interest not to anger me. That girl is the only reason you're still breathing, demon," He whispered into the demon's ear before pushing him away.
Your gaze met the angel's and you couldn't help but blush once more. "A-Ah! Did he finally leave? I'm so sorry, Simeon. I didn't know he worked here! He's been harassing me for the past few weeks, and I just don't know what to do anymore." You started rambling, Simeon sitting down before you and listening closely to every single word that left those lovely lips of yours. They looked so soft.
However, he couldn't forget the sheer audacity of that demon. His presence, his words, his existence, all of it was a sin that must be cleansed. How dare he even breathe in your direction? It all frustrated the angel.
That's okay. Simeon would deal with him later. He had to comfort his lover now. "That sounds horrible! Have you told anyone else about this?" He asked reaching over the table and gently grasping your hand. You turned away from his gaze bashfully, blush only growing darker as you felt his eyes pierce through you. "No, you're the only one that knows about him."
Simeon felt his heart pound against his chest at this. He was the only person you trusted enough to tell? Oh, you're so dependent on him, just how it should be. What a good girlfriend you are, even if you didn't know it yet. "I see," He managed to murmur out softly, a light chuckle escaping his lips as you met his gaze once more.
"I'll do with this information what I can to help you, MC. I promise,"
_
Simeon splashed water over Toran's tied-up body, causing the demon to wake up in a panic. Though, his sounds of confusion were muffled by the gag in his mouth. Simeon's hand shot forward, gripping either side of his face and forcing him to meet his gaze. "Disgusting," He muttered softly, a glare making its way to the angel's face. He scoffed and pushed Toran's head away from him, taking a step back and pinching his chin between his thumb and index finger. "Ah, what was your name again?" He asked, voice shifting back to the one he wore normally. The one that angels such as himself were expected to wear. "Toran, I believe, yes?" He asked softly, adjusting his black gloves as he turned his back to the demon. "MC requested I not get you in too much trouble with your higher-ups if I take action. She really is sweet, isn't she?"
Simeon turned around, brushing his gloved fingers over the blade in his hand. "You see, I believe that MC is far too divine to be saddened by someone such as yourself. I believe it is my duty as an angel to expel any unhappiness from her life as I see fit." He made his way over to the demon, gently pressing the sharp tip of the blade against his chin. "I'm like her guarding angel in that way, aren't I? I'd make such a good husband, don't you think? If I asked her to marry me... No, she'd be weirded out by such a thing. I have to ask her to be my girlfriend first, don't I?" Simeon's list of questions was left unanswered, but the sound of the demon muffling something under the gag while he was talking only irritated the demon's captor further. "Has no one taught you manners?" He sliced the bottom of the demon's chin, blood spilling out, and a muffled cry erupted from Toran's throat.
"I truly don't appreciate how you treat MC... It truly is unfortunate. You must be cleansed, demon." He pushed the blade against Toran's chest.
"I will do what I must to protect my human,"
_
Simeon loved you. He loved you more than anything else in this world, more than he loved himself, more than he loved his Father. He just couldn't bare the thought of you rejecting him is all! That's the only reason why this happened.
You were close, so close to finding out his secret. So close to finding the corpses. He wrapped his hand over your mouth and nose and began to chant a sleeping spell into your ear softly, and when you fell limp in his arms, he placed you on the bed.
Now, you looked so beautiful, so innocent, so carefree. He couldn't help but be drawn to your divinity. The way your skirt was pushed up by the duvet slightly, showing him the plush of your thigh. The blush on his face was dark, as were his eyes.
He had to claim you.
In the blink of an eye, he was between your legs, sliding your panties off of you from beneath your skirt, his breath hitching as he saw your pussy. He could feel a lump of saliva form in his throat as he slowly lowered his hand, running two gloved fingers down your slit. Simeon stared at your cunt, not blinking, not moving anything but his hand. He was infatuated with your body, and the only thing that was missing was your whimpers and pleas for him to keep going. Slowly, he pushed his fingers into you, your velvety walls welcoming the digits.
You were tight.
You were a virgin.
A whimper poured from your lips as he shoved his fingers all the way inside of you, his knuckles meeting your entrance. Simeon glanced up at your face to see your expression change, brows knitting together as your lips parted ever so slightly. However, you gave no signal of consciousness. He reached his free hand forward as he began to slowly thrust his fingers into you, making scissoring movements to stretch you. With his free hand he parted your black RAD jacket and unbuttoned your teal underblouse.
Simeon's breathing hitched once more as he saw the white bra you were wearing, taking a moment to think about this situation. You were asleep and vulnerable, and here he was, defiling you. He looked down at his hand, eyes widening at how your essence clung to his fingers.
You wanted him too.
"Haah... I knew it," He muttered out softly, a smile forming on his face. "I knew you wanted me, you naughty girl. Your body's so honest with me."
Biting his lip, he slowly pushed a third finger into you. At the same time, he hooked his index finger around the middle of your bra, pulling it down, and allowing your breasts to spill out. Immediately, his hand groped your mound, squeezing the soft flesh and allowing a chill to run down his spine as he thrusted his fingers faster. "Come on, my dear, give me an orgasm," He said, voice full of desperation, making it seem more like he was begging you. "I need to see you cum for me, darling."
Soft moans and gasps erupted from your throat, and he felt your thighs pushing against his hand. He frowned, pushing your thighs further apart and positioning himself inbetween your legs. "None of that, Dove," He said softly, feeling the heat that pooled around his fingers go straight to his cock. His thumb reached up to trace circles over your clit, causing you to whine and squirm in your sleep.
He felt your walls tightening, excitement coursing through his veins as he thrusted his fingers faster into you, gloved hand soaked, and hand squeezing your breast. "Almost there, Dove," He almost whimpered out, cock twitching. Your hands moved downward, almost as if unconsciously trying to hide yourself from the stimulation.
Your eyes shot wide open and you let out a cry of pleasure as your orgasm came crashing down, coating Simeon's hand in your juices. His movements slowed, allowing you to ride out your orgasm.
Your blurry vision slowly began to re-focus, allowing you to see the angel before you. A sheepish smile appeared on his face as he pulled his hand away, pressing a finger to his tongue to get a taste of your cum. "Simeon?" You panted out softly.
Simeon's hand pushed his white pants and boxers down, freeing his hardened cock, pink tip oozing with precum. "I'm so sorry, my little Dove," He said softly, your eyes going wide as he spread your legs, cock pressing gently against your opening. "I wanted to wait... Ask you to go out with me, then after we got married, I'd take you in a more..." He paused, trying to search for the right adjective. "Romantic setting." Simeon's cock grinded gently against you. "You see, Dove—" You felt him push into you, and you gasped, hands immediately clamping over your mouth. His mouth fell open, letting out a soft groan as he felt your cunt suck him in. "You're just... So— Hnngh!— Tempting!" He slammed himself all the way inside of you, hips meeting yours as he bottomed out.
Tears fell from your eyes at the stretch and you felt his hands on your thighs, guiding them so that your legs would wrap around his waist. "You'll forgive me, right?" He murmured out softly, nuzzling his face into the valley between your breasts. "I'm only doing all of this because I love you." Simeon's eyes met yours and you could feel your body tremble. "S-Simeon, I-I wanted... To wait—" "Wait until when, Dove?!" He suddenly became more aggressive, face now inches away from yours, cock pushing against your cervix, making you whine. "Until one of those vile demons got to you? That isn't an option! You were going to make love to me on the night of our wedding, what difference does it make that I take you here?" He huffed out.
You'd never seen him so angry before, nor have you ever seen him act so possessive before. He pulled his hips back, only to shove them forward again. You moaned loudly, closing your eyes and allowing more tears to fall. "You should be grateful..." He muttered, closing his eyes to try and maintain some of his composure. The contradiction in his words hardly meant anything to your hazy mind. While you did take a moment to realize that he just apologized for waiting before scolding you for wanting the same, the way he started to pound into you made your brain turn to mush.
"That it was me who was here instead of some random demon. I don't know what I would've done if someone deflowered you before I got the chance to, they might've ended up like the others!"
You flinched at this statement, looking up at Simeon through teary eyes. "O-Others?" He scoffed, burying his face into the crook of your neck to leave dark hickies that couldn't be hidden. When you didn't get an answer, you debated on asking him again, but he interrupted your confusion with a slam right into the spot that made you see stars.
You cried out, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him closer to you, feeling a knot begin to tighten in your stomach. "S-Simeon! G-Gonna c-cum soon!" You whined out, bucking your hips upward to get more friction between the two of you, hoping for further stimulation.
Simeon knitted his brows together as a thought came to mind. Perhaps if you were pregnant, everyone, including you, would know that you were his. Maybe if he got you attached to him in such a permanent manner, you'd never think about another man. Yes, that sounded absolutely divine. It sounded right.
"MC," He moaned out against your jawline, pressing a kiss to it before he moved upward so his lips were beside your ear. "I'm gonna cum inside you, okay?"
"W-What?!" You flinched, regaining consciousness almost immediately before almost being completely fucked out of it again. Simeon sighed softly against you, pressing a kiss to your cheek. "I'm gonna make you— Ngh!— A mamaaa..." He dragged out the last syllable as a blush formed on his face, feeling his orgasm nearing as his pace quickened and his thrusts became more desperate and rough. The tip of his cock bullied your cervix, making you nearly scream in pleasure. "You'll be good for me, right? Y-You'll take all of my cum? Carry my child for me? You love me don't you?"
Your walls convulsed and you screamed as you came, juices coating his length. "Y-Yes," You whimpered out softly, being rewarded with the smile that you'd grown to love on him. "My Dove," He moaned out softly, burying himself deep inside of you and grunting as you felt him paint your insides white. You could feel him filling you up to the brim, womb full, pussy throbbing and drooling with his cum, even though he hadn't moved. There was just so much. You'd never felt this full before.
He slammed into you a few more times, trying to ride out the pleasure of his orgasm, as well as fuck his seed deep within you, before slowly pulling out. The sight of his cum oozing out of you made him blush, looking up at your panting, exhausted form.
Simeon smiled, caressing your tear-stained cheek with the hand that wasn't dirtied, pressing a warm and passionate kiss to your lips. He felt his heart skip a beat when you returned the favor. Reluctantly, though he had to breathe, he pulled away.
"I'll do everything I can to keep you safe and with me, Dove... Even if it means I have to resort to desperate measures,"

Haibara's words hit you like a bucket of cold water.
“You also play on the basketball team?” You said with surprise.
Haibara laughed. “Yeah, I´m not as good as my seniors, Gojo and Geto, but I’m also on the team.”
“So obviously…” You sighed. “It’s impossible for us to change our shifts that day right?”
“I’m afraid so.” You looked down, you were really sad. “You have something important that day?”
You shook your head. “I got invited to the match and I wanted to go, but it’s okay! It doesn’t matter if we can’t change shifts.” You smiled.
“You got invited to the match?” He exclaimed and you nobbed in surprise. “I will talk with my grandma, I don't think she will mind if we close the store for one afternoon. Or maybe my sister can come…” He mentioned.
“Please Haibara, there is no need.” You said with worry.
It wasn't necessary for him to do that, there would be other chances to attend a game. Although you were feeling a bit sad for missing out, it wasn't catastrophic. Whether or not you attended didn't hold significant weight. Haibara had gone through the trouble of arranging it all for you, solely because you harbored a desire to fulfill Gojo's request. Goodness, you felt foolish.
“My grandma won’t mind, don’t worry. She adores you and she adores me.” He joked. “Besides it’s just a day, nothing will happen. Once she finds out that is to go to her dear grandson’s basketball match, she might even show up there herself.” He laughed. “Although I know you won’t be watching me.”
“I will also cheer for you Haibara.” You planted your hands on the table and looked at him seriously. “You’re my friend after all, right?”
“You consider me your friend?”
“Of course!”
Haibara shouted your name and hugged you tightly. “You are my friend too. I will present to you my friends from the team, although you already know a few of them.”
“Alright.” You grinned.
Haibara bid you farewell and exited the grocery store. Now you understood why he was always in a hurry; it was for his basketball practices. Retrieving your cell phone from your pocket, you messaged Kyoko that it were most likely going to the match too. The match was scheduled for Friday, and today being Wednesday, you wished you had discussed it with Haibara earlier, but time had been scarce for a calm conversation.
Despite the usual midweek routine, Gojo remained his typical self, yet you couldn't shake the feeling that he was concealing something behind his playful smile. Though hesitant to inquire, you continued studying, occasionally seeking clarification from him on various matters that crossed your mind during your free moments together.
You spent the afternoon attending to customers until Kyoko arrived; that day, she had promised to pick you up to go home together. You closed the shop, and Kyoko took hold of your arm to draw you closer as you walked towards home.
“You won't believe this.” She smiled, showing her teeth and squinting her eyes. You turned your head to look at her. “Suguru gave me his jersey; he wants me to wear it in the game.” She said with excitement.
“Really?” You said in amazement, to which she nodded eagerly. “Wow, Kyoko, are you two not officially dating yet?”
Kyoko shook her head. “Not yet, but I think we're heading in the right direction.” She sighed and whispered your name. “Do you think it can work out this time?”
“Yes.” You said firmly. “Suguru is not like the jerk…” You left the sentence hanging, recalling how Kyoko felt talking about that. “You know. The times I see you both, you seem genuinely happy, and Kyoko, believe me, the way Suguru looks at you is like the gaze of a romantic movie protagonist.”
When you met Kyoko, she was dating a guy whose name filled you with disgust. They had been together before entering high school. Kyoko was truly in love, while he was a complete jerk who was capable of cheating on her with more than five girls in just one month.
You still remember Kyoko's inconsolable crying when she found out, lamenting whether she wasn't enough for that pig. You recall seeing her light dim and her confidence shattered. That's why when you saw him on campus, you couldn't help but beat him up; at that moment, you didn't care about the possibility of being expelled or reprimanded, you were tired of seeing your best friend cry in corners because of that pig.
Fortunately, Kyoko moved forward, and that jerk transferred to another college. Since then, Kyoko had regained her confidence and her radiance; you only hoped and wished that Suguru Geto wouldn't do anything like that to her, not even close, or else you would do what you did back then all over again.
Both of you arrived at Kyoko’s home and greeted her parents, who were waiting for you to eat dinner. At that moment, you felt the need to cry but hold it back all together, you didn’t like crying in front of people.
*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
In the blink of an eye, game day arrived, and Kyoko and you headed to where it would be held. There were quite a few university students, including professors. But it wasn't surprising after all, your basketball team was quite famous.
You sat next to Kyoko on the bench, positioned not too far from the playground, offering an optimal view of the players. It seemed likely they could spot you too. Kyoko brimmed with excitement for the match, donning the t-shirt Suguru had gifted her, emblazoned with his name and number. To an outsider, it might seem as though they were already a couple, but Kyoko insisted they were merely in the process of getting to know each other.
You glanced around, taking in the scene. It was your first attendance at one of the college basketball team's games. Yet, you were keenly aware that almost the entire college turned out for these matches due to their exceptional prowess. They rarely suffered defeat.
Apparently the team they would face that day was from Kyoto college, the only thing you knew was what Kyoko had told you and it seemed last year they faced each other in a final or something like that, the truth is you had not understood very well. Nonetheless, your team won, although with some difficulty.
You noticed how Kyoko grabbed your hand and rested his head on your shoulder, while she raised and lowered her leg nervously.
“Kyoko, relax.” You tried to calm her down. “They will probably win.”
“I’m not nervous for the match. Suguru said he wanted to talk with me after the match.”
You slightly opened your mouth in surprise. “Oh… maybe it’s the day Kyoko!”
“Maybe!” She smiled. “But still I’m really nervous.”
“It will be fine.” You tried to calm her.
The whistle signaling the start of the game brought you back to where you were. Kyoko squeezed your hand tightly, her eyes fixed on Suguru Geto. On the other hand, you watched the game, paying attention to most players. Haibara was among them, visibly happy to be there. There was also the blond guy you had seen with Haibara outside the store that time – what was his name? Nanamin? Yes, that might be it.
But without a doubt, you were consciously avoiding fixing your eyes on a white-haired guy. Though it was relatively impossible as he stood out on his own, and the entire venue went crazy whenever he touched the ball.
He was good, or so you thought, considering your limited knowledge of basketball. Yet, the way he moved, handled the ball, and shot was exquisite to watch.
Oh God! What are you thinking?
You shook your head to dispel those thoughts, trying to avoid looking at him. Your foolish mind led you to think things you shouldn't.
You shifted your gaze to the scoreboard – 34-27 in favor of Tokyo. You were winning.
The game continued, intensifying with each passing moment, causing the crowd to become even more excited in the action.
During one of the timeouts, as Kyoko commented on how handsome Suguru looked in his uniform and sighed, your eyes drifted across the team, catching the direct gaze of Gojo's blue eyes.
A pang in your heart made you immediately turn your head away. His gaze had been soft and warm, causing you to feel nervous, even from five meters away.
Feeling flustered by the unexpected encounter, you tried to focus on Kyoko's words, but the image of Gojo's penetrating gaze lingered in your mind. The intensity of his eyes seemed to convey a message you couldn't decipher, stirring up a whirlwind of emotions within you.
As the timeout ended and the game resumed, you found it difficult to shake off the lingering effect of Gojo's gaze.
With just a few minutes left for the game to end, both teams were tied. You and Kyoko gripped each other's hands, eagerly awaiting a decisive move.
The ball moved swiftly between players. Eventually, it landed in Suguru's hands. Realizing the dwindling time, he swiftly passed it to Gojo. Could he make the shot from that distance?
The court fell into silence as Gojo launched the ball towards the basket. Your breath caught as you followed the ball's trajectory – one spin, then another. When the buzzer sounded, the ball found its mark.
The arena erupted in cheers and applause, celebrating the victory of the University of Tokyo. You and Kyoko embraced, jumping with joy.
Your university had won.
“Can you believe we won? Suguru was incredible out there!” Kyoko screamed, jumping on her place.
You nodded, but your gaze involuntarily wandered towards Gojo, who was now surrounded by his teammates.
“What's on your mind? You seem a bit distracted.”
You hesitated before replying, “I... noticed something during the game.”
Kyoko raised an eyebrow. “What? The handsome players?”
You chuckled nervously, “No, it's just... Nothing, it doesn’t matter.” You shook your head.
“You sure?”
You nodded, trying to brush it off, but the memory of Gojo's gaze lingered, leaving you with a sense of intrigue amid the celebration.
Both of you stood up and headed outside; Kyoko needed to talk to Suguru before you went home. You walked to the exit where the players were leaving and waited. A smile spread across your face as you saw Suguru approaching you both.
“There is your man.” You gave her a light elbow nudge, and she blushed. “Go on. Then you have to fill me in on everything.” You warned her.
Kyoko started walking and smiled at you. “You know I will.”
You watched as your best friend approached Suguru and congratulated him on the victory. If it weren't for the fact that it was real life, you'd think you were watching a romantic movie from the '90s, the way Suguru had taken your best friend's hand and led them away from the crowd. You could almost vomit rainbows at that moment.
You pulled out your phone from your bag and checked the time, 21:45. It was still early.
“You came.” You heard a voice behind you. You knew whose voice it was; you could recognize it almost anywhere.
The voice of the person you had been trying to avoid making eye contact with all night, and the same voice that had now caused your heart to beat a little faster. Would it beat even faster if you looked into his eyes?
“Well…” You turned to face him; he still had his uniform on, and his hair was wet. Damn. “You invited me to the game, didn't you? It was the least I could do for my private tutor and project partner.”
Gojo simply smiled at you. “We have some soda if you want.” He pointed to where the rest of the players were.
You shook your head. “I'm good, but thanks.” You played with your hands and looked at the ground; for the first time, you felt embarrassed about what you were about to say. “You played really well, Gojo. It was very... very good. You were good, I guess.”
“Birdie…” You lifted your gaze and realized he was incredibly close to you again. “Are you free now?”
“Um…” You hesitated. You were, but... “I'm waiting for Kyoko.”
Gojo cleared his throat and grinned. “Then you're free. Those two lovebirds will take a while.” Gojo stood next to you and took hold of your arm. “Come on, I want to take you somewhere.”
“Wait, Gojo.” You tried to free yourself from his grip. “Are you going like this?” You looked him up and down.
“Yes, why?” He checked himself. “This is my other uniform, and I've showered.”
“Oh.” You nodded. "I thought..."
"You thought I'd take you around all sweaty?" You averted your gaze, avoiding his. "You can see me sweaty under different circumstances..."
You pulled away from his grip and looked at him with a furrowed brow. “No, thanks.”
“I meant during basketball practice.” He teased you. “You thought wrong.” And you couldn't help but blush.
Gojo grabbed your arm and practically dragged you to the parking lot. You could feel people's gaze on you, which wasn't hard considering Gojo drew too much attention, much to your dismay. Most looks were curious, although many would have buried you alive if they could.
Gojo stopped in front of the black car he had taken you in before. You didn't know much about cars, but you were sure it was expensive. He let go of your arm and opened the trunk, searching for something. Then he pulled out a hoodie and handed it to you, and you frowned at him.
“You've been shivering since we left the venue.” He said, offering it again. “It might be colder where we're going.”
“Thanks... I guess.” You whispered as you took the hoodie. “But I don't understand why you want to take me somewhere. Kyoko will be looking for me.” You protested.
“I already told Suguru, I'm sure he's told Kyoko. So relax.” He shrugged.
“I still don't understand why you want to take me somewhere.” You sighed.
“Simply because I want to, birdie.” He put his hands on his hips. “I… I'd like to show you something.”
“Gojo, if you try anything, even the slightest thing, I won't hesitate with you.” You looked him in the eyes.
“I know, and I won't do anything you don't want.” He smiled. “Shall we go now?”
“Yeah…” You looked carefully at his face, noticing how the wounds were almost gone. “Your wounds… you treated them?” Gojo nodded, touching his face a little bit. “That’s good, I’m glad.”
“Oh birdie, is worried about me.” Gojo teased you.
You rolled your eyes and said nothing. Because in fact a part of you was worried about him but saying it out loud didn’t feel right.
You put on the hoodie he gave you, it was warm, and Gojo's scent filled your nostrils. It was too big for you, but it covered your thighs a bit. You got into Gojo's car and fastened your seatbelt.
Before Gojo got in too, you quickly sent a message to Kyoko.
You to Kyoko ☀️
If anything happens to me, it was Gojo.
I love you
Gojo hopped into the driver's seat, starting the car with a confident grin. As he drove away, Gojo seemed oddly focused on the road, a stark contrast to his usual carefree demeanor.
You watched outside the window and observed the city lights were starting to fade, distancing yourselves from the bustling Tokyo and entering a quieter place. That was the feeling as you looked through the window of Gojo's car.
The soft lights of fireflies illuminated the road. Gojo kept his eyes on the road, and the silence in the car wasn't awkward. In fact, you didn't feel uncomfortable being with him. It's true that he annoyed you, and often you couldn't stand him, but discomfort wasn't present.
Admitting it aloud was a challenge, but slowly, Satoru Gojo was earning your appreciation, even though you always proceeded with caution, carefully observing his actions.
It had been 30 minutes since you got into Gojo's car when the speed began to decrease; it seemed you had arrived at the place. A strange sensation took hold of you; you didn't know what it was, but it was there.
You got out of the car, just like Gojo, and waited for him to reach your side.
“We have to walk a bit, but I swear it'll be worth it.” He smiled and started walking ahead of you.
You didn't say anything and simply followed him; Gojo walked with determination and confidence in every step he took, regardless of the fact that the only light available was from the flashlights on your phones.
“I used to come here when I was little.” He broke the silence. “And then when I got older too, it helped me clear my mind and relax.” He looked over his shoulder at you and smiled.
You continued walking until you finally reached the place. The moon was reflected in the crystal-clear water of the lake, displaying a beautiful view.
“Tara!” Gojo sang, spreading his arms and smiling. “It's incredible that a place like this exists near Tokyo; it's wonderful.”
You wanted to say yes, it was, but that feeling in your stomach was back, and your head was throbbing.
“Birdie…?” You noticed Gojo looking at you with a concerned expression on his face.
“I’m tired…” You said. “Sorry…”
“No, don't be…” He shook his head. “Why don’t we go and sit over there?” He pointed at a bench near the lake.
You nodded and started walking towards the bench. You didn’t quite know what got into you but it was an uncomfortable sensation that wanted to break out.
Gojo sat next to you and you noticed how he started to play with his fingers. Was he nervous?
“Gojo…” You broke the silence.
“I’m sorry.” He cut you. “I’m sorry, you told me you didn’t feel like coming and still I brought you here, without caring. You probably wanted to get home and rest. Shit…” He held his head between his hands. “You are always working so hard and already came to see the match although you had to work and here I’m bringing you here when you are tired.”
You looked at him attentively; it wasn't necessary for him to react like this. He didn't need to worry so much about you.
“Gojo.” You whispered, gently touching his shoulder. “It's okay, don't worry. I just started getting a headache.”
He removed his hands from his head and looked at you before returning his gaze to the lake.
“I always come here when I need to clear my head.” He whispered. “When classes get too much or after training.”
Who would've thought, the great Satoru Gojo would be overwhelmed. You never would've been able to tell.
“Lately, I've been coming here too often, to be honest.” He whispered.
“Are classes getting to you?” You asked out of curiosity.
“Not exactly, it's more family problems.”
“Oh... I understand.”
“You know, when I was a kid, I used to sneak out and come here.” He smiled and looked at you. “When my parents scolded me or we argued, I'd grab my bike and come here.”
“You came here as a child alone?" You said in surprise, the place was a bit far away for a kid to come on their own.
“Yeah, they didn't care.” He said with a sad smile.
“Gojo…” You said concern, Gojo was opening to you in a way you wouldn’t have thought he would.
“But it's okay, I could relax here, and one day, I met someone.” He turned to look at you with a smile.
Gojo continued talking but you struggled to maintain focus, the intensity of the memories threatening to overwhelm you. His lips moved, forming words you couldn't decipher over the deafening roar in your ears.
A sharp pain shot through your head, causing you to wince and clutch at your temples. It felt like your skull was being crushed in a vice, the pressure unbearable. Breathing became a struggle, each inhale feeling like a futile attempt to fill your lungs with air.
The memories flooded back with relentless force, each fragment adding to the torment. You remembered the bright sunshine glinting off the surface of the lake, the sound of your mother's voice calling your name.
And then, the screech of tires, the sickening crunch of metal, the scream of terror that ripped through the air. You remembered the impact, the sensation of being thrown, the blinding pain as your body collided with something hard and unforgiving.
But amidst the chaos and confusion, one image stood out with stark clarity: your mother, her arms wrapped around you, shielding you from harm with her last breath.
Tears blurred your vision as you struggled to make sense of it all, the weight of grief and loss crushing you with its unbearable heaviness. You felt like you were drowning in a sea of sorrow, unable to find solid ground to anchor yourself.
“Birdie…” You could hear Gojo calling your nickname and your name.
You were having a panic attack?
“Are you okay?” Gojo's concerned voice broke through the haze, his hand reaching out to steady you.
You blinked, trying to focus on his face through the blur of tears and agony. It was all too much to bear, the weight of the past pressing down on you like a suffocating blanket.
“I... I…” Your words came out as a choked whisper, your voice trembling with the effort to contain the overwhelming pain.
Without another word, Gojo wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close in a comforting embrace. In that moment, his presence was a lifeline amidst the storm of your shattered memories.
Gojo's arms held you warmly and tightly, as if he wanted to remove the pain you were currently feeling from your body and mind.
That's when you realized how shitty you had been. Satoru Gojo had cried hugging you and at that moment you had not been able to do anything for him, instead you stayed silent like the coward you were.
Gojo was the opposite of you, he was what you wanted to be, open, positive, energetic, sympathetic but you were far from it.
“Birdie?” His voice was gentle, filled with concern, as he steadied you.
You blinked back tears, not wanting Gojo to see you cry, and trying to find the words to express the turmoil inside. “I... I need…”
“It’s okay…” He whispered, still embracing you. “I think the best is to leave.”
You simply nodded. Gojo separated from you and stood up first, feeling the warmth you had felt previously disappear.
As you looked up, you saw Gojo's hand extended towards you. On another occasion, you would have rejected it and said something to him, but in that moment you just wanted to feel the calm and warmth you had experienced next to his body.
You grabbed Gojo's hand and walked in silence to the car. In a way, you were anxious and felt that if you got into the car after remembering what you had remembered, you might have another panic attack. But if you stayed at the lake, you didn't think you could be calm. Anyway, all you wanted at that moment was to get away from there.
“Birdie…” Gojo's gentle voice brought you out of your thoughts.
You looked at him and saw the sadness and concern in his face.
“I'm fine.” You forced a smile, knowing he didn't buy it when he held your gaze. “Really, how about you invite me to dinner?” You tried to change the subject. “I'm starving.” You touched your stomach.
Gojo's features relaxed for a moment and he nodded. “Okay…” He opened the car door. “Pick any place you want, it doesn't matter. I'll take you.”
You nodded with a smile.
The drive was quiet, the only sound was the hum of the radio. You stole glances at Gojo, noting the tension in his posture and the furrow of his brow. Despite your attempts to lighten the mood, you could tell that he was still worried about you.
You wanted to assure him that he didn’t have to worry about you.

Leviathan, the Accidental Yandere
Summary:Levi x gn!reader. Levi forgets there are differences between humans and demons when he attempts to court you.
CW:Levi seems like a Yan! But it's just a misunderstanding. Read at your own risk.
A/N: I love me a good spooky Yan fic, but I was thinking about the funny side of some of them, where it might just be a cultural thing. Also, my tag list is still packed, so hopefully you guys see this.
"Question?" Levi said, looking a little flustered.
Satan looked up from his book, and Asmo looked up from doing Belphie's nails.
"Yeah?" Asmo asked.
"Um.. so you three know humans the best, so how long is it supposed to take before they stop screaming when you begin courting them?" He startled a moment, before adding, "Hypothetically, of course."
Satan and Asmo shared a confused look, but Belphie seemed to understand exactly. He groaned, and slouched back in his chair.
"Levi, if we go in your room, right now, are we going to find Y/N in a cage, or chained to something?"
"Yes."
"Father give me strength," Belphie groaned. "You know humans are a completely different species right? Which means they have different courtship rituals? Please tell me you read one of the millions of books by succubi and incubi who researched how to mix the courting rituals, right?"
Levi's face turned a shade of bright pink.
"I, uh, didn't think about it…"
"Levi!" Asmo exclaimed.
"So, I did bad?"
"Just a little," Satan said with a laugh. "Or a lot."
"Humans only have free will and freedom going for them. So chaining them down is seen as an act of aggression,"Belphie groaned tiredly.
"Wow, if you had read a book about how to care for and keep humans as pets, it would have gone better. Even if those books are outdated," Satan laughed even harder.
"It's not funny," Levi pouted.
"It's a little funny," Asmo said with a giggle.
"Well, we better let Y/N out, and explain what happened," Satan said, the trio standing up, and following Levi to his room.
When Satan opened the door, he was immediately greeted by a Ruri Chan body pillow being thrown at his head.
"Y/N! Please don't hit me, I just did my hair!" Asmo cried.
"Fuck, shit, I thought you were…Levi!" You saw Levi standing behind the trio, and made to grab something else to throw.
"Let me the fuck out!"
"Y/N, it's okay! We're here to unlock you, but we need to tell you something first, then Levi is gonna apologize," Asmo said.
"I don't want to hear it."
"Trust me, you do," Satan smirked.
You sat down with a huff, the chain around your ankle jingling angrily.
Belphie sat down next to you, before laying his head on your lap.
"So I know it's easy to forget, cause we're so loveable, but we are two different species. And demonic courtship rituals are a little different. For example, it is common for a higher caliber demon to lock up their potential lower level mate, and then to bring presents and spoils of their hunts to prove that they can protect them."
"The fuck-"
"Levi being one of the 10 most powerful demons in the Devildom, is always going to be the one who is supposed to prove himself. So, he put the chain on your ankle, and was going to bring you gifts and food to prove himself a worthy mate of defending you."
He paused to let you take in the information. Your face went through a roller coaster of emotions, before you simply said,
"Huh."
"Now, if Levi was smarter, he would have researched humans before hand, and would have informed you about demonic culture, and maybe you could have come to a middle ground, where both of your cultures were respected, but also you felt safe," Satan said pointedly.
"Huh."
Asmo nudged Levi.
"I, um, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you or make you think I was gonna hurt you," Levi's eyes started tearing up, "I'd never hurt my Henry, I'm so sorry, I bet you just hate me now."
Levi threw the key to the chain at your feet, then started sobbing into Satan's shoulder.
You groaned before unlocking the chain and wrapping your arms around him.
"I don't hate you Levi. And we can definitely talk about ways to make us both comfortable, but, dear God, please make sure I know thoroughly about something demonic before throwing me to the wolves next time? I thought you were gonna kill me or something."
"You don't hate me?" He sniffled, and looked at you, his violet eyes filling with hope.
"No Levi, I literally told you yesterday how much I love you! You just shook me up a little bit!" You nuzzled your nose against his.
"Okay, I'll get rid of the chains, the cage, and the handcuffs…"
Satan quickly covered Asmo's mouth.
"...And we'll talk about how you'd be comfortable."
"Literally, Levi, how about we just watch a movie? That sounds really nice right now,"  you hummed.
"Okay, Henry, that sounds amazing," he said with a smile.
You both left the room holding hands, and Satan uncovered Asmo's mouth.
"Keep the handcuffs!" He blurted.
"Aw, Asmo," Belphie purred, "they're already gone."
Satan and Belphie laughed, and Asmo pouted.

Anonymous requested: "headcannons about Alucard and Alexander Anderson being in love with the same S/O?"
I was feeling more in the one-shot mood, so I hope you like this either way.
Alucard and Alexander Anderson Being in Love With The Same S/O
It started at the National Gallery, where you tagged along with Sir Integra, Walter, Seras and (you think?) Alucard. Tbh, he disappeared the moment you all stepped out of the limo, so you imagine the flirtatious vampire has wandered off to find a dark closet to rest in before being called upon when if things go awry.
Seras, too, leaves you three, mentioning something about “finding a good plan B”. Whatever the hell that meant.
So that just left you, Sir Integra, and Walter, to wander about the marble hallways of paintings, waiting for your invited company to arrive.
If only they would show up on time for once…
“What nuisances,” Integra grumbles, before turning to you. “Go see if you can weed the heretics out. I’m positive they are perusing the exhibit, purposefully wasting our time.”
“Of course, Sir,” you obey, bowing slightly before making your way through the maze-like museum. You imagine that whoever the has Iscariot sent to London; well, they must stick out of the average crowd.
Scanning the tourists for holy robes, uniforms, hell, even a gun or sword, you fail to spot anybody who could possibly be your tardy visitors. Eventually you resort to exploring the forbidden staff area, knowing that both Hellsing and the Iscariot have the pontifical balls to break simple rules. Opening many doors with obvious ‘DO NOT ENTER’ and ‘PRIVATE PROPERTY’ signs, but finding most of them locked, you sigh in disappointment, deciding to make your way back to your boss.
But then you spot a familiar head of blonde hair, exactly where she shouldn't be.
“Seras, is that you? What the hell are you doing back here?” you call to her, seeing the young vampire in an unfamiliar uniform. She gives you a cheeky smile and an awkward wave, before disappearing around a corner. Tailing her, you run back down the hall, only to turn the same corner and collide into what you could only assume to be a wall, solid and sturdy as you smack face first and begin fall to the ground. Startled and blurry-eyed, you prepare to break your fall before a very long and strong arm catches you around your shoulders.
“Woah there, friend. Are you alright?” an unfamiliar Irish-tongued man asks, lifting you back onto your feet. You rub your sore forehead, blinking your vision back to coherency before looking up…up...and up, to your human wall.
Christ, he’s tall.
“Haha, yes, indeed you can thank our lord and saviour for that.”
“Oh wow, did I say that out loud? I’m so sorry—” you spy the golden crucifix and clerical collar around his neck, “—Father. I shouldn’t have been running. I saw that my friend had gottn a bit lost and…well she’s gone now.” You huff in annoyance, knowing you’ll give Seras a good talking to later. She’s becoming far too much like her new master as of late.
“All is well, my dear. Actually, I have found me’self a bit lost as well; the museum is just so beautiful that I stumbled off course!” he laughs jovially.
You smile back, knowing you’ve found your man. “Actually, Father, you are just the person I’ve been looking for.” You lift your arm band slightly for the priest to see, telling him your name and position in the Hellsing Organization.
You see his cheerful smile damper a bit at the Hellsing insignia on your uniform, before quickly recovering. “I see. Father Alexander Anderson, at your service, my dear.” He bows his head towards you, “please call me Alexander. After all, you and I come from two very different clergies, I imagine.”
“A pleasure, Alexander. Although, I like to keep my faith ambiguous,” you add. “Sir Integra is waiting for you in the Sainsbury Wing, if you would please follow me.” You raise an arm in the direction out of the staff wing.
“What about your wee friend?”
“Oh, I’m sure she’ll find her way spontaneously back. Come, let’s not keep Sir waiting any longer, she can be quite the impatient woman.”
Alexander follows you back into the exhibits, making small talk along the way by commenting on the many displays. While a member of Iscariot, you discern Alexander to be a kind man with an eye for art. He tells you small sermons associated with some of the Italian pieces, amazing you with his theological knowledge, and letting him know so. You never imagined an enemy could be so enjoyable to talk to. But you suppose he’s only your enemy by association.
“I take it you are familiar with Hellsing’s pet vampire, dear?” he suddenly asks out of the blue, making you stop pause in surprise. His tone is pleasant, but his face tells something more. You recognize it as hidden disdain, masked behind innocent curiosity.
“Erm, yes, I am.” That was the understatement of the century. You have become more than a little familiar with Alucard over the years you’ve worked by Integra’s side. If you had to describe him in three words, it would be devious, coquettish, and handsy. He has made it more than clear that he has developed an attraction towards you, yet you have hesitated to return the handsome vampire’s advances in fear of getting played. Surely a creature of his stature could never have feelings for a human such as yourself, right? So, you’ve remained neutral, neither encouraging his inviting caresses and seductive words, nor pushing him away.
“We’re coworkers,” you affirm. “But I would not describe us as anything more, though Alucard can get a tad possessive,” you admit.
Alexander sighs with sympathy, suddenly draping an arm around your shoulders, just like he had when he caught you on your fall. He continues to lead you through the museum, not particularly focussed on finding your desired destination any time soon. “A shame. A pretty young soul such as yourself should never feel controlled by a vile monster.”
You purse your lips at the compliment, never hearing a man of the cloth make such a comment before, let alone towards yourself. His hand lowers from your shoulder to your middle back, pulling you gently ever-so-closer to his side.
“Just let me know if you ever need a delivering hand to aid you in a time of need, and the Lord shall answer your call,” he winks at you with a smile, making you giggle in disbelief.
“Father, are you flirting with me?” you ask with mock scepticism.
“Don’t ya worry, dear. I’m more than happy to look at the menu. It's ordering that’ll require a confession out of me. Or two.”
You giggle at his boldness, before the both of you hear an angry cry echo down the hallways.
“Anderson!”
Alexander frowns, before removing his arm from around you. “Please excuse me, my dear. It seems we have missed introductions.” He cracks his knuckles together, before two silver bayonets are unsheathed, seemingly out of nowhere. You gasp in shock as he stalks his way down the hall with a malicious grin on his face, sermons spilling from his mouth as he makes his way to his target.
You follow quickly behind, practically running to keep up with the tall priest. Down the hall you spot Sir Integra, Walter, and also Alucard with his gun’s raised, pointing them at the two other Iscariot members you missed in your search. You know this was going to lead to only one thing.
Alucard laughs maliciously. “Neither of us could ever back down in front of an enemy. Come on then, Judas priest!”
“What a coincidence. You won’t be so lucky this time, vampire. Do you enjoy playing with God’s most gifted children so?”
Jesus Christ on earth. “Stop!” both you and the silver-haired Iscariot member yell at the same time.
You see Alucard’s eyes widen as he catches you running behind from where Alexander had appeared. A scowl replaces his bloodthirsty smile. “What were you doing over there, Catholic? How dare you even breathe the same air as my beloved!”
“Beloved?” Alexander sneers. “How delusional! You really think this beautiful soul would ever be with a putrid demon such as yourself?”
“I’m ordering you to stop!” the Iscariot man repeats.
You've had enough of their cat fighting. You yourself between your quarrelling admirers and silently pray to God (or beg to Satan) that your new knights aren’t feeling as trigger-happy today.
“Hi! Right this way, everybody!” Seras practically yells into your ear, as a flock of elderly Japanese tourists stumble their way around you. “Everyone with the Japanese tour right this way, please! Kochira e dōzo!”
Seras' can-do attitude and smile is a welcome de-escalation of the tense situation. You only wish she had let you know beforehand, before deciding to run away.
Alucard fluidly moves his way through the murmuring crowd, grabs you by your waist and leads you back behind Sir Integra and Walter, much to Alexander’s detestation.
“What were you doing with him?” Alucard glowers.
“I was doing my job, since you decided to disappear," you huff.
“I was making sure the area was safe, for your and my master’s protection. Don’t you know who that priest is? He’s just as much a monster as I. I won’t allow him to go near you again.”
“And what makes your attitude any different from his? How is that any of your business? ” you glare back, not pleased with being pulled around so much today.
Alucard lowers to your level, getting in your face. “You are my business. You are mine.”
“That’s where you’re wrong, monster.” Alexander approaches from behind you both, bayonets thankfully gone from his hands. “I think the dear knows the path they walk, and it is not beside you.”
Alucard turns with a hiss, prepared to start the fight anew when it was your heart on the line. Hell, you know Alucard wouldn’t hesitate to bring about WW3 for you.
You stomp your foot on the ground in frustration. “I don’t need either of you to speak on my behalf. The path I walk is my choice alone, and at this moment, it’s away from both of you pompous idiots!” you yell, before turning on your heel towards the pavilion to prepare it for Integra’s meeting. Both of the men look at your back with marvel, before glaring at one another.
Maybe a war really was about to begin?

Life was great, working as a Customer Service representative for Dunder Mifflin paper company. Wow, you never thought you’d say such a thing, but it really has become something appealing, something that had you smiling and willing to come to work every single day. Of course, it had its own ups and downs, times when you felt overwhelmed or frustrated at certain people. You still ended up enjoying the majority of the day, and sometimes the rough days turned out to end up better than the rest.
It had absolutely, wholeheartedly nothing to do with James Duncan Halpert, otherwise known to his work colleagues as ‘Jim.’ You continued to lie to yourself, nodding along to this thought process on your drive to work. It was rainy, just like most days, and you were bored out of your mind waiting in the traffic. You just enjoyed going to work, because… Because of all of your friends, that’s why! Sure, that might include Jim, but that also included Pam, and Oscar, and god forbid, even Dwight. He’s certainly grown on you over time, having completely accepted your identity, even defending you against anyone who said anything. You couldn’t be sure, but you suspected that Dwight had even lost a customer through those actions- but when Mr Dellicker had called for customer support and you had answered the phone, saying his name out loud, Kelly had rushed around the divider and ripped the phone from your hand, immediately transferring it to her own phone. You tried to listen in, curious why this was so important to her, but you kept hearing her say the same thing over and over.
“Thank you for your consideration, but we no longer want your business with us. I completely understand that you think so, but we no longer want your business with us. While that may or may not be true, this whole conversation is futile considering we no longer want your business with us.”
Mr Dellicker had become a hushed topic around you, but you had managed to catch a private whisper among your friends one day when he was brought up again. They’d ask Kelly if he had called yet, and she assured the situation was handled. Pam had whispered, “I can’t believe some people’s views on trans people. It makes no sense.” So, while it wasn’t likely due to you specifically, you were almost sure that you were the only trans person they knew. If they were defending trans people, they were defending you alongside it all.
You pulled into the parking lot finally, shaking your head to rid yourself of those thoughts. Mr Dellicker’s whole deal had been a problem a month ago and was no longer an issue. You shouldn’t dwell on those thoughts, you weren’t likely to ever have to worry about it again. You managed to snag a semi-decent parking space. It was only the second from the front, but it happened to be right next to Michael’s own car, and as you placed your car into park, you glanced over to notice he was still sitting there. You tilted your head in confusion, watching for a moment.
You couldn’t tell if he was psyching himself up, or singing along to one of his weird songs. He seemed ready to open the door, then leaned back once more without actually doing it. He lowered the visor on his car, flipping open the little door to reveal his mirror and looking at himself in it. He continued, probably, speaking to himself, and you just shook your head and decided to leave it be. You reached for your suitcase and umbrella, then began making your way inside.
You were stuffing your umbrella into the little holder by the door after you entered the office, taking off your long overcoat and hanging it on the coat rack by Pam’s desk. She smiled, asking about what you did over the weekend, and you answered that you didn’t really do much besides binge the next season of your current obsession. You agreed to tell her about it later, moving toward the break room for your normal cup of tea. You pat Jim on the shoulder on the way, and he reaches up quickly to touch your hand before you slip by. It causes a smile to cross your face as you continue on your path, a happy feeling welling up inside.
“I. Am a girl.” You spin around quickly, eyes widening in fright. There stood Michael Scott, wearing a short, pleated pink skirt with his normal yellow button-down dress shirt, as well as a crooked ginger wig that he had most definitely not been wearing in his car. The room falls completely quiet, and you hear two people put their calls on hold. Jim stands, and you can’t see his face from this perspective, but you hear a hardness in his voice.
“Michael, this is not a funny joke-”
“It’s not a joke!” Michael yells out, crossing his arms. He purses his lips before speaking again in a higher tone. “I’m a girl, and so I decided to say it. That I am.” He looked around the room as if expecting something, but no one moved a muscle. Pam broke the silence, clearing her throat and talking in a tone that was both cautious and unbelieving.
“Alright, so what would you like us to call you, then?” Michael sputtered at the question, throwing his hands outward and looking around the room again. His eyes settle on me, and Jim sidesteps to block off his vision. You can no longer see Michael, but the image of him has burned into your mind anyway. You could feel yourself panicking, your heart trying to beat its way out of your chest. This had to be a prank right? He was making fun of you? Now? After all this time?
“What do you mean- Y/N didn’t change his name when he came out!”
“This has nothing to do with Y/N,” Jim quickly tries to interrupt him after hearing your name, but you heard his sentence all the same. Jim walked closer to Michael, leaning down to whisper, but even you could still hear his words in the silence your boss caused. “How about we talk this out privately and continue this announcement later?”
“But-”
“I think that’s a fantastic idea, Jim,” Pam calls out quickly, circling her desk and corralling Michael into his office. He was putting up a fight, but not much of one. Jim followed closely behind, closing the door behind him. You could see multiple faces turn to look at you- as their current entertainment had been dragged away- out of the corner of your eye, but you were still there, shell-shocked. Before you realized what you were doing, you were standing directly outside Michael’s office door, peeking around the side to look in through the window. You could hear them talking still, considering the rest of the office was waiting to see what you would do.
“No, no, no!” Michael yelled out, plopping down into his seat. “I’m serious about this you guys!”
“Alright, let’s assume you are,” Pam begins, but Jim looks at her with an aggravated look.
“Pam-”
“Let’s assume you are,” Pam repeats, pushing Jim away and leaning closer to Michael. “How did you come to this decision?”
“I-” Michael hesitates, looking at his computer, then back to Pam. “Well, I really like girls a lot.”
“Sure, sure, but sexuality and gender are different.”
“I know that, Pam! God!” Michael starts flipping random pens on his desk, trying to distract himself. “I just like their clothes a lot.”
“You like to wear the clothes, or see them on women?”
“See them-” He stops, looking up to her. “I mean, wear them! Yeah, that’s what it is!” His stuttering and determination caused Jim to huff in a humourless laugh, no longer just standing by.
“What’s really going on here Michael?”
“And,” Michael begins, ignoring Jim’s question, “What was that question about what I wanted to be called? Y/N didn’t change his name when he came out?”
“Sure,” Pam agrees, trying to maintain the peace, “But Michael isn’t a very feminine name. Doesn’t that make you feel a little, I don’t know, dysphoric?”
“What does that word mean?” Michael asks, causing Jim to huff again, moving forward to slam his hands onto the table.
“What is really going on here, Michael?”
“Fine!” Michael yelled out, throwing up his hands, his fake hair swinging around wildly. “I don’t think I’m a girl! I don’t like wearing dresses or skirts or-” He spits, swatting away the fake hair that had managed to catch itself in his mouth, “And I’m so uncomfortable in this,” He pulls the wig off finally, throwing it onto the ground. He stands next, reaching for the skirt he was wearing, “Or this-”
“No, no, no!” Pam calls out quickly, keeping him from ripping the skirt off in front of them. “I’ll fetch you your spare pair of pants here soon, it’s at the desk. Just,” She sighs, shaking her head, “What could’ve possibly made you think this was a good idea, Michael?”
“Well!” Michael huffs, pouting as he sits back down. “Y/N got all sorts of attention when he came out. He became cool, and popular, and now I’m not even allowed to make jokes about him! Everyone hates me now, he took my thunder!”
“You can still make jokes about him,” Pam continues cautiously, raising her hands up in a plea to calm him down. “Just, not about the fact that he’s trans.”
“My thunder Pam!”
“This is fucking ridiculous,” Jim begins, reaching forward and grabbing hold of Michael’s shirt. “That stunt you pulled was mean-spirited and heinous. Do you have any idea how you could’ve made Y/N feel? How hard it was for him, not only to accept himself for who he is but to become confident enough in himself to come out to the entire office? Do you realize how much you probably just put him back?” Michael’s face was terrified, and Pam was too stunned at this action to do anything at first. By the time Jim was done talking, she reached forward quickly and pulled him back.
“Jim, that’s unnecessary.”
“I feel it was completely necessary, Pam.”
“He doesn’t realize what he’s doing, he just wants attention.”
“He gets attention every single day Pam! He demands it, hell, he goes out into the office and-”
“Jim,” Pam interrupts, nodding toward Michael. You watch Michael visibly sniff, raising a hand to rub at his nose.
“No, no, he’s right. I’m a nuisance, everyone hates me.”
“No one hates you, Michael,” Pam starts, and Jim scoffs.
“You’re babying him.” She shoots him a threatening look, and he just shakes his head and crosses his arms. Pam moves closer to the desk, looking down at Michael.
“Hey,” When Michael looks up, his eyes are red and glossy. “What you did just now, was that a good idea?”
“No,” He whines out, drawing out the vowel.
“Good, that’s the correct answer. And why was it a bad idea, Michael?” He huffs again, moving to play with a different toy on his desk and avoiding her eyes.
“Because I lied for attention.”
“And?”
“Because I probably made Y/N feel bad. And Jim.”
“So what are you going to do?” Pam asks, and you can’t see her expression but Michael finally meets her eyes and breathes in a deep breath.
“I’m going to tell everyone that it was a horrible prank and that I’m sorry.”
Even Jim startles at this, both Pam and Jim- even you, yourself- having never actually heard Michael apologize for one of his many failed pranks or skits. Pam straightens up, glancing quickly at Jim before looking back. Her voice was full of surprise as she nods, “That’s right. That’s completely right, actually. Good job Michael.” You could see him smile before looking down at his lap, then back up at Pam.
“Can I do it after I change?”
“Of course,” Pam moves quickly to the door, and you don’t think fast enough to move out of the way. The door swings open wide and you are revealed to be standing there, right outside of it. All three occupants turn to look at you with varying expressions, but they all share a similar surprise. You swallow hard, locking your eyes with Michael. You are about to speak but can feel eyes digging into your back, so you take a few steps into the office, past your two friends.
“What you did just now,” You begin, sucking in another deep breath, “Was horrifying- for everyone involved. I’m sure we want to see you in a skirt just as much as you want to be in one.” You lean forward onto the desk, watching Michael shrink away from you. “But let me ask you, how does it feel to wear that skirt?”
“What?” He looks startled at the question, looking to Jim and Pam for help. None arrived for him.
“How does it feel, wearing that skirt? Why aren’t you wearing a blouse with it? Couldn’t find one that fit, or did it feel too uncomfortable? What about the hair?” You nod down to wear the wig laid on the ground. “Was it annoying? Kept getting caught in your mouth, right? Drooped in front of your face, obscuring your vision?” You leaned forward, your breath coming out harsher. “Imagine you had breasts attached to you- and push past your sexuality. Imagine you had them and they couldn’t be removed.” You whisper this last part, your own eyes tearing up. “How would you feel?’
You hear Jim say your name softly behind you, realizing what you were referencing. Michael shook his head for a few seconds before he stopped, widening his eyes. You nod, continuing your speech. “Yeah, exactly.” You lean back, picking your hands off of his desk to rest by your side. “That’s how I feel every single day. Or, did. Until I came out.” You take a deep breath, steadying yourself. “I became confident because I was finally comfortable with who I was. I’m sorry if you can’t find that confidence in yourself. But don’t try to steal mine. Don’t make a mockery of my struggles.” You turn, heading toward the door, toward your desk- to anywhere but here. But Michael’s voice stops you before you’re able to leave.
“I’m sorry, Y/N.” You turn, looking into his eyes. He seemed genuine, but you knew he didn’t really understand.
“Think about why you are. Then get back to me.”
You pushed your way past Pam, who stood in the doorway with shock and pain written across her face, and ignored Jim’s call of your name as you kept going. You wanted away from these stares, this was not what you meant by loving this damned office. You continued past the breakroom, ignoring your daily cup of tea. You enter into your side of the annexe, seeing Kelly on the phone and hearing a whispered but high-pitched, “What? No! He didn’t?” Before she suddenly looks up, widens her eyes, and quickly says, “Gotta go,” Before slamming the phone down. You sigh and walk around the divider, taking your seat.
Kelly has more social sense than most people in the office, you’ve come to realize. It was why she had applied for customer service- unlike you, who had just taken up an ad from the newspaper. So, she knew better than to try to ask you what happened. She remained quiet on her side of the partition, something that was extremely odd, and it almost felt like you were in your own little world, in your tiny corner. Your desk was pressed against two walls, and the partition blocked the other two sides except for the small gap for your entrance. The partition walls weren’t very high, but sitting down they reached above your head. You felt isolated- something you first loved, then hated, and now feel grateful for once again. It gives you time and privacy to calm down.
After some time, you hear a throat clear nearby, and Kelly’s chair roll as she likely stands to leave. You look up at the top of your divider, waiting for a face to come into view. Luckily, it’s Jim’s face. He smiles softly at you, and you can tell he’s trying to keep the pity from his face, but it's not working very well.
“You didn’t make your tea?” He raises a cup- your favourite cup, no less, that no one else has used since your incident with Dwight- and offers it to you. “I figured I’d make you some. Can’t go a day without your tea, right?” You can tell he was trying, and it warmed something inside of you. Trying for a smile, you reach out to take the cup, taking a sip. It was made perfectly.
“I’m sorry about that,” You begin, sighing and placing the cup aside. “I kinda went a little overboard, didn’t I?”
“Not at all,” Jim rushes to comfort you, circling the divider completely to be inside your little cube. He rests himself against your desk, looking down at you with earnest eyes. “If anyone was overboard, it was Michael.” You just shrug, looking away.
“I mean, what did I expect, really? Everyone in the office has been so good about the whole thing. Ever since I’ve come out, it's been nothing but positivity.” You bite your lip, shrugging. “This office isn’t exactly a positivity-friendly environment.”
“You being trans should have no bearing on your workplace,” Jim insists, leaning forward toward you. “I know the world is fucked, but I want to make sure that at least your world isn’t.” You huff a laugh, shaking your head.
“Oh, c’mon Jim. Don’t be too hard on yourself.” You look up, meeting his eyes with a self-deprecating smile. “It’s not like it's because of you that all of this ended up so easy until now.” Jim’s eyes widen slightly, then wander away as he wiggles his head and bites his lip. You wait for him to agree, then narrow your eyes. “You… Didn’t tell everyone to be nice to me, did you?”
“Well,” He begins, drawing out the word and wincing. “I didn’t quite do that. But I did explain that they shouldn’t act any different, what jokes they shouldn’t make about it, and to look something up before asking any questions. If they couldn’t find the answer online, then they could ask me, and then I would allow them to ask you.” You blink a few times, tilting your head.
“But no one ever asked me anything?” He nodded along, sucking his lips inside his mouth before popping them, sighing.
“Yep.”
“Did they have questions?”
“Oh,” Jim scoffs, laughing. “So many.” He places his hands between his knees, palms together. You couldn’t help but laugh with him.
“Like what?” You feel curious but also dread at the prospect.
“Oh, y’know,” Jim shrugs, moving to mess with some pens on your desk idly, not meeting your eyes. “Just the usual dumbest shit on the planet. I told them all they were absolutely not allowed to ask you, of course, and had to explain why sometimes.” You nodded along, huffing out another laugh.
“I suddenly don’t want to know.”
“Oh, no, you really don’t.” You laugh softly along with him, feeling your chest bloom open, your crush developing further. For the second time today, you were moving before realizing you decided to. You stood, then reached forward and pulled Jim into a hug. He had straightened when he noticed you standing, then stood stiff as you wrapped your arms around his shoulders. You hesitated, about to pull away when Jim moved quickly, wrapping you in his arms and pulling you in tighter. You relaxed once more, laying your head against his chest and closing your eyes.
“Thank you, Jim,” You whisper, turning your nose to brush against his dress shirt. He smelled clean, with a hint of cologne that you couldn’t place. His arms were warm and strong- comforting in a way that you hadn’t felt in so long. He moved one of them up, cupping the back of your head as he straightened up more, pulling you in closer.
“It’s nothing,” Jim stutters out, and you can hear his heart beating under your ear. “Someone’s gotta make sure these folks don’t chase you away.” You laugh, leaning back to look him in the eye. He seems sincere, solemn, as he adds, “I think I would be devastated if you quit.” You chuckle once more, shaking your head as you pull away.
“Oh, I’m sure.”
“No,” Jim lowers his head, trying to catch your eye once again. “I’m completely serious. You are probably the only reason I still show up.” He laughs, shaking his head. “I mean, I’m this old and stuck in this job?” You laugh along, shaking your head.
“You make good money here, Halpert, don’t deny it.” You feel slightly upset you had pulled away from the hug so soon, but you had to look at him after he said that. You had to see if he was serious- Jim is hardly ever serious, always joking around. It was part of the reason your crush developed so fast, and also why it’d always remain a secret. He was so funny, making you laugh constantly. But he was also a bit of a jokester, and you didn’t know if he had a serious bone in his body. Today was showing he certainly did.
You weren’t sure if you’d be able to handle it.
You both spend some more time chatting, and his presence is a balm that soothes your panicked heart. He tries his best to make you laugh- which you do, often- and you finish your morning cup of tea in the meantime. You were sure you could’ve talked to him forever if only your phone hadn’t rung. You shrug with helplessness, reminded that you’re technically at work and still have a job to do. You reach to pick up your phone, apologizing to Jim who waves you off. You watch him walk away as you answer the phone, “Dunder Mifflin paper company, customer service representative speaking.”
It ended up being a quick call, with someone complaining that their shipment was late. You only had to find their account to let them know that the delivery was scheduled for today and the time. Once you placed the phone back in its slot, you raised your cup to your mouth before remembering it was empty. ‘Eh, might as well,’ You think to yourself, pushing to stand and make your way to the breakroom. Kelly is back at her desk as you circle around, and you make sure to say a soft greeting to her to make up for your earlier rudeness. She says a polite and short greeting back with a gentle face, still conscious of your rough morning.
You’re about to pull the door to the breakroom open when you notice the back of Jim standing at the counter. He was hefting a freshly brewed pot of coffee, and you couldn’t help but stand there and watch his arm flex as he hefted it with no problem. You didn’t see the other door open, but suddenly Kevin was walking directly into Jim’s space.
“I have another question.” Jim sighs visibly, shaking his head.
“Haven’t I told you enough-”
“No, this is a different question, Jim!” Kevin seems adamant, and after Jim puts the coffee pot away he takes a side step to regain some personal space. “And you said yesterday there’s a limit of stupid questions I’m allowed to ask a day so I couldn’t ask yesterday!”
“You have until I finish making my coffee.” You’ve never seen Jim quite so indifferent and snappy before, raising your curiosity. For some reason, you still stood there, barely peeking through the window of the door, still holding your empty cup.
“Ok, so if he still wanted breasts-”
“Nope.” Jim was already shaking his head, stirring sugar into his coffee.
“Alright fine, but also. Can he sow a penis-”
“Nope.” Kevin huffs in frustration, flapping his arms for a split second.
“Why do you keep saying no to all of my questions?” Jim finishes stirring his coffee, placing the spoon in the sink and turning to look directly at Kevin finally.
“Because all of these questions are way too personal.”
“How are they personal?” You tilt your head, furrowing your brow. How would they not be personal? Jim seems frustrated, running his free hand through his hair.
“You can’t just ask someone about their breasts or genitals, Kevin. You wouldn’t want anyone asking about your dick.”
“Actually, it’s kinda itchy-”
“Nope!” Jim pushes away from the bar, leaving immediately. You’re stuck between sympathy for both of them. You don’t think Kevin actually knows any better at this point, but you also just felt too awkward to even try to come up with an answer to those questions. However, were these the types of things that Jim had to put up with daily just to vet the office for you? Why would he put himself through all of that?
“He’s really trying, you know?” You startle from your thoughts, turning to look at Kelly still sitting in her rolling chair. You tilt your head in confusion, but also shifted on your feet, hoping to play off the fact that you’d been standing there this whole time.
“Who?” Kelly just gives you a look you can’t quite decipher, continuing.
“Jim, obviously.” She sighs, pushing herself away from her desk and standing. “He’s even asked me for help on occasion. Little things here and there, but he recruits the allies where he can find them.” You purse your lips, leaning back against the wall next to the door, crossing your arms while holding your cup upright still.
“Asked you for help? Doing what? Who else has he asked?”
“I knew you’d figure it out at some point, I just didn’t think it’d be when someone slipped through his fingers. Though, Michael is pretty unpredictable like that.” She shrugs with a smile like she’s trying to hold back a laugh. “His main ask for me was just to intercept anyone trying to bother you- most likely to ask the dumb questions. I just had to send them right back through the breakroom over to Jim’s desk.”
“Did that happen often?” She shrugs again, wiggling her head.
“Not often, but a few times. Mainly Kevin, he has a lot of questions.” You nod, glancing briefly toward the breakroom’s door before resting your eyes on her once more. You study her posture, then try to make a guess.
“The other was Mr Dellicker, wasn’t it?” She winces but nods nonetheless.
“He was a real ass.” She sighs dramatically, moving to lean against the wall next to you and bunching up one of the random, typical office posters that hang around throughout the floor. “He was Dwight’s client, actually. The moment Dwight heard him be even a small bit transphobic, he hung up the phone. This, of course, caught Jim’s attention. I mean, have you ever known Dwight to drop a client? Like, ever?” You shake your head in agreement, and she nods with you. “Yeah, right? Anyway, Jim asks, Dwight answered. To Dwight, that was the end of the entire thing. To Jim, however,” Her smile begins growing as she leans closer to you, “Well, he knew that Mr Dellicker would call back to complain. And who would be picking up the phone?”
“Customer service,” You mumble, absorbed into her story.
“Exactly!” She giggles now, unable to hold it back. “It was adorable, really, the way he begged me to make sure I took his call. He actually asked me to call the man first, but I told Jim I wouldn’t go out of my way just to aggravate someone who, as far as we knew, wouldn’t be calling back after such a rude hang-up. But he wouldn’t let up, so I agreed to keep an ear out.” She huffs now, widening her eyes with a far-off look. “Good thing I did, too. He was such an ass.”
“Thank you,” You say softly, bringing her back to the present. She tries to brush it off but you just shake your head, placing a hand on her arm. “No, not just for Mr Dellicker. For agreeing to help out at any point, just for me. For not making a big deal about my whole coming out, for never treating me any different or- just-” You hesitate, shaking your head. “Just everything, Kelly. You’re an amazing coworker.” You watch her eyes begin to water, and she lets out a wet laugh.
“Wow,” She raises her hands, wiping the corners of her eyes. “You’re going to make my makeup run.” She pushes up from the wall, circling you and entering into the breakroom, heading straight for the girls’ bathroom. You widen your eyes at this reaction, unsure, but take a deep breath and enter into the breakroom yourself. You still had some tea to brew.
Tumblr media
You didn’t mean to idle, standing near the exit of the breakroom toward the annexe, but stuck in place watching Jim lean against Pam’s desk through the door’s window on the other side of the room. They were talking back and forth- a lot of laughing involved- and you couldn’t quite place the feelings whirling in your chest. It felt similar to jealousy, but you knew that wasn’t it. Envy? That perhaps she was his type, and not you after your transition? Insecurity?
You startle as Jim suddenly meets your eyes, watching him straighten up quickly. You try to act nonchalant, moving out of his line of sight to grab your lunch from the fridge, and sitting at the break room table. You’d finished your second cup of tea hours ago, and you were a tad overdue for your lunch break considering you had a whole host of emails that you usually respond to in the morning, but had to answer during your second cup of tea since you’d been just a tad distracted that morning. You bite your lip as the events from that morning fly through your mind, a whole host of emotions attached to them.
The door across the room opens, stopping your train of thought in its tracks. Jim walks in with a smile, moving toward the fridge. “Hey,” He greets you, scanning you with his eyes while you just sat there, slowly removing your lunch from its brown paper bag. “Was starting to worry you’d forgo lunch.” You laugh, then proceed to explain your lateness. As he sets his own lunch on the table, you begin to wonder if he waited for you. Then your eyes flicker back toward the door you’d been staring at him through.
“So, how’s Pam?” Jim seems a bit taken off guard at the question, turning to look at the door himself before looking back to you. He shrugs, taking his own lunch out of his lunch box.
“Uh, good, I guess?” He raises his sandwich, ready to take a bite before hesitating and adding on, “She’s excited to hear about that one show you mentioned this morning.” You nod along, watching as he begins to eat his sandwich. You take your own small bite, looking toward the door again.
“She’s cute, isn’t she?” Jim’s eyebrows furrow immediately, and you watch him swallow. He seems to be planning his actions in his head before he performs them, placing his sandwich down.
“What?” He looks around the room aimlessly, wiggling his head. “I mean, yeah of course. She’s cute.”
“You two get along really well.” At this he chuckles, shrugging.
“We’ve worked together for a long time.” You both fall silent, taking more bites of your food. Jim breaks the silence with a resounding, “I’d probably have developed a crush on her by now if I wasn’t gay.”
Gay.
You end up lightly choking on your bite from surprise, playing it off with a cough and a sip of your water bottle. You can see Jim staring down at his sandwich at the table, taking a deep breath. “So, I can see why someone would develop a crush on her. If he was straight.” He glances briefly up at you, then back down to his sandwich. You tried your damndest to keep the look of shock from your face, that it takes an extra minute before you understand what he’s not saying. Did he think you were asking because you had a crush on Pam? You take another sip of water, letting your eyes wander away from him.
“Yeah, same.” Out of the corner of your eye, Jim glances up at you quickly, a look of concentration on his face that indicates his thoughts roaming a million miles an hour. You shrug for show, moving your own food closer so you can take a bite once you finish speaking. “I’d probably have developed a crush as well if I was straight.”
You only recognized the signs of Jim choking since you’d just gone through the same thing, as the man turns to cough into his arm as if to play it off. At least the poor man hadn’t been chewing food like you were. By the time Jim finished drinking from his own bottle, and moved to lean forward and say something, he was interrupted by the door opening and someone entering inside. He leans back, looking self-conscious, and you feel such a deep curiosity about what he was going to say that it burns in your chest. You don’t even register who walked in until she was taking a seat right next to you.
“I don’t know how you can stand it, Jim,” Kelly begins softly, and you look at her with confusion. Kelly never talks softly? “Working right next to the receptionist's desk all day. How do you get any work done?” Jim’s eyes flicker between you and Kelly, clearing his throat.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, she’s so hot!” You and Jim meet eyes suddenly, listening to her continue to talk in a soft voice. No wonder, considering she was essentially coming out to the both of you. “When I first started and had to work over in that area, I was getting nothing done. Toby had to ask me what was wrong, and I sorta kinda told the truth that I was extremely distracted. He moved me to the annexe-” She pauses here, resting a hand on your arm with a sympathetic expression, “Sorry, Y/N, that’s why you’re confined back here as well.” You shake your head quickly, rushing in.
“No, it’s fine. I like it back here.”
“You do?” Jim asks with a smirk, and you give him a look essentially saying ‘Shut the fuck up Halpert I’m trying to console her.’ He just laughs noiselessly, his chest shaking as he moves to take another gigantic bite of his sandwich.
“Anyway, it’s so distracting. I had to go get something copied and I stood there an extra five minutes trying not to stare too directly at her. Oscar literally had to nudge me and remind me what I was doing!” She groans, letting her head fall onto the table. “So embarrassing.”
“Oscar knows?” You ask gently, unsure whether she actually realized she told you both. She lifts her head with a sigh, seemingly unfazed.
“Well, yeah. Oscar knows about everyone.” You hear Jim scoff softly, mumbling quietly under his breath.
“Not everyone.” This only causes Kelly to raise an eyebrow at Jim, smirking with humour.
“Oh, he knows about everyone, Jim.” His head was quick as it whipped toward Kelly, leaning in.
“Wait, what?”
“I mean,” She shrugs, glancing toward you briefly before meeting his eyes again. “You’re kinda obvious, Jim.” You can see his eyes widen, but you only feel confusion.
“Wait, how many people are gay in this office?” Kelly only shrugs, refusing to meet your eyes.
“Not my place to say.” You nodded along, obviously that being true. You meet Jim’s eyes once again, and you can see red peppering his cheeks.
“I’m sure it’s fine, Jim.” He nods as if agreeing, flicking his eyes between you and the rest of his sandwich throughout the rest of lunch. Kelly takes the initiative in the ensuing silence, talking about everything yet nothing at the same time. Just as you and Jim are both cleaning up to get back to work, Kelly sighs loudly with an eyeroll before looking toward you and plastering on a smile. The look only made you feel wary.
“So, Y/N, what are your plans for after work?” You swallow roughly, glancing at a wide-eyed Jim, then back to her.
“Uh, nothing really?”
“Oh,” She draws out, reaching forward and placing a flirty hand on your arm. “So you’re free tonight? Want to go out for drinks?” You stutter, pulling away from her arm, your head already shaking as you try to come up with an excuse. ‘Didn’t she just say that she found Pam attractive? What the hell is going on?’
“Uh, Kelly-” Jim tries to intercept, but she pulls away as if nothing happened, shrugging.
“I just meant with the lot of us. Jim will be there too, won’t you Jim?” She looks directly at him, raising her eyebrows as if she was expecting something from him. You look between the two as an awkward silence settles before Jim startles, trying (and failing) for a normal smile.
“Oh! Those drinks!” Jim laughs awkwardly, looking back and meeting your eyes. “Yeah, we’re all going out for happy hour at Poor Richard’s Pub, you should join us!” You relax slightly as Jim was the one offering, no matter how weird this entire interaction ended up being.
“Oh, uh,” You hesitate, still slightly wary. There’s obviously something you’re missing here. “I mean, sure. I have nothing else to do. Who all will be there?”
“Just a couple people from the office,” Kelly quickly answers, standing and moving to throw her own trash away. She turns to look at both you and Jim, still sitting in your chairs. “Well, c’mon! We have work to do, people!”
Tumblr media
“I know why I’m sorry now.” You startle at your desk, turning to look directly at Michael Scott with wide eyes. You hadn’t even heard him approach. He circles around your desk, motioning for you to stop your work as he leans against your desk- an unknowing imitation of Jim that morning. “If you’re willing to listen?”
You can feel yourself swallow roughly, the beginnings of a familiar panic starting in your chest. You’re unsure what to say, so you just nod. He nods as well, taking a deep breath before continuing. “At first, I had no clue what you meant. I knew I was sorry, and I knew it was because I had hurt you.” He looks into your eyes, regret deep within his own. “But that wasn’t enough for you. So I started thinking.” He chuckles softly, leaning back on his hands and letting his own gaze roam the walls behind your desk. “And when that didn’t work, I remembered something Pam said when she tried to play along with my- well, yeah. A certain word I didn’t recognize. Dysphoric.”
You feel yourself tense, suddenly remembering the tightness around your chest where the binder lays under your clothes. You can feel the tie around your neck like it was trying to choke you. Michael, unaware of your inner struggles, continues on. “That search was enlightening- it was like everything you had expressed to me. And everything I had felt, trying on those clothes.” He hunches inward, his expression becoming stormy. “I felt so wrong wearing that skirt. And you were right- I had tried a blouse on. I bought one at the store that fit and even brought it home, but it just felt so weird when I tried to walk out of the door with it on. So I switched to my normal shirt.
“Then I was sitting in the parking lot, and I knew that the moment I placed my foot out of my car, everyone would see the skirt. I was-” He laughs humourlessly, shaking his head. “I was terrified. I tried to ignore it- like it was just stage fright, something I had to talk myself into.” You began to nod, intrigued by his story. “I don’t know how I convinced myself to get out of the car- I guess something along the lines of, ‘Well, I’m the boss. The ship will sink without me in there.’” He takes a deep breath, patting his legs loudly. “Anyway, I was jealous.” He shrugs, looking at you with wet eyes. Was he really getting emotional over this? “I mean, you did kinda steal my birthday away from me.”
Memories of that night flash quickly through your head. You’d come out during a party- a party you didn’t know the purpose of. That pink quinceañera cake… You didn’t get to taste it, but they could’ve gotten it because it was his favourite flavour? You hadn’t even seen Michael there. Was he trying for a grand entrance? Memories from this morning flash through your mind’s eye, Michael yelling at Pam, ‘He stole my thunder! My thunder, Pam!’
“It wasn’t planned, Michael,” You try to assuage, wincing despite yourself. “I’m sorry, though.” Your apology causes Michael to blow a sigh out roughly, then laugh and slap his thighs again.
“Wow! I didn’t know how much I needed to hear that.” You’re both silent- you studying Michael’s face, and Michael looking anywhere but at you. Then you start laughing.
“Michael,” You try to talk through your laughter, but you just shake your head and try to get it under control. You wouldn’t want him to think you were making fun of him- you only found him ridiculous- so you try your best to calm down. “Michael. You were upset that I ‘stole your thunder’ on your birthday, so your response was to… Pretend to be a girl? Instead of, oh I don’t know,” You try to hold back your laughter again, choking lightly on your words, “Throwing another party?” Michael seems to take a moment to absorb this- then begins to laugh alongside you.
“Well, that would’ve only been easy, Y/N. When have you known me to do things the easy way?” You both laughed again, and you began to shake your head.
“Never.” When your laughter finally dies down, you meet his eyes once again. Staring at each other, it's like you both finally understood. You thought he was just ignorant, but you had been missing out on important information as well. He began to nod, glancing over his shoulder toward the nearby wall clock.
“Well, looks like I kept you long enough. Time to clock on out!” He jumps up, shooting finger guns before backing up. He trips over the edge of the divider, tries to play it off, and then groans loudly when he sees Toby walking by. “God, every time!”
You chuckle to yourself, then begin the process of shutting down your computer and packing up. Kelly skirts around the divider quickly once the door closes behind Michael, leaning into your space. “Let me drive you.” You hesitate, widening your eyes.
“I’m sorry?”
“To the pub! Let me drive you!” You laugh nervously, beginning to shake your head.
“Oh, uh, no. I have my own car, but thank you-”
“If you drink, you won’t be able to drive home.” She counters, raising her eyebrows at you. You laugh again, shaking your head.
“Well, if we’re all drinking, wouldn’t you drink too?” She shakes her head immediately, crossing her arms.
“I don’t drink at all.” You still feel hesitant, and it must show on your face as she sighs and then leans in. “I’ll tell you Jim’s whole deal.” This catches you, looking back at her to study her.
“What do you mean…?”
“I’ll tell you if you let me drive you!” You huff a laugh, smiling despite yourself. “Yeah, alright. But if I don’t drink, you gotta’ take me back here so I can drive myself home.”
“Deal! And if you do, then I’ll drive you home and pick you up for work tomorrow morning!” You laugh again, shaking your head as you pick your briefcase up, finished with closing down your desk for the day.
“You seem excited about this.”
“Absolutely! I’ve been waiting forever!”
You were still unsure what she meant but followed along with the hyperactive girl as she burst through both of the doors to the breakroom. You watch Jim straighten where he had been leaning against Pam’s receptionist's desk, and smile toward you as you made your way to the exit.
“You know,” Jim starts, huffing a soft laugh and smiling in a way that took your breath away, “I was thinking.”
“Oh,” You draw out, smiling despite yourself, “Dangerous territory there, Halpert.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jim begins, laughing again. He takes a discreet look around before reaching forward to almost take your hand, his fingers tangling with your own but not quite grasping. “I was hoping that maybe I could drive you down to the pub? I know you have your own car and all, but I just want to make sure you’re safe with getting home, y’know?” Your face falls just as you hear Kelly’s voice behind you.
“Oh, don’t worry Jim! He has a ride already.” Jim looks toward Kelly over your shoulder, then back to you with wide eyes, pulling his hand away.
“Already?” Jim looks back to Kelly, confusion clear across his face.
“Oh, don’t get your panties in a twist, Jim!” You feel her small hand wrap around your bicep, pulling you toward the door. “We’ll meet you there!”
You take one last look at Jim through the glass doors as Kelly drags you along to the elevator. You hesitate, mind trying to catch up, before you finally clear your throat and look at her. “No offence here, Kelly, but I honestly think I would’ve preferred riding with Jim?”
“You’ll have the rest of your life to ride with Jim. Just let me tell you what I need to tell you without the risk of Jim hearing us.” You both step onto the elevator, as Kelly begins mashing the button for the lobby.
“Uh,” Your mind is stuck, repeating ‘rest of your life’ and ‘Jim’ over and over. “This feels… Is this nefarious?”
“‘Nefarious,’” Kelly mocks, pulling you once the doors open again. “You say the oddest things sometimes.” You didn’t know which car was hers, but considering she was dragging you along, you didn’t have to guess. She pulls your briefcase from your hands, finally letting go of you, and you just stand in place. She throws your suitcase and her purse into the backseat, then opens the driver's door with a look up at you. “Well, get in!”
It was quiet for a long portion of the drive. You didn’t know what to ask, or how to even broach the subject. Did it seem too eager, to ride along with her just because she promised to tell you about Jim? And what was she even talking about- how would Kelly know more about Jim than you? True, you both hadn’t been friends for very long just yet, but you didn’t know Kelly and Jim were friends?
“So, it started when you started transitioning,” Kelly said, bursting you from your whirlwind of questions. “We all got pretty curious. I was the one who had the theory you were trans first.” She winces, looking over to you. “Sorry. I didn’t know at the time how true I was. I honestly didn’t even know if you knew about it, but- well, obviously you did.” You tilt your head, brow furrowing.
“You all were talking about me before we were friends?”
“Well, you know how the office is. You were changing, and people were noticing. Especially Pam and Jim. Pam, who is such a sweetheart and just wants everyone to be comfortable. She had a feeling you were never quite comfortable at the office but didn’t know how to help. Jim found you hot, which was throwing him for a loop considering he is gay, and normally not attracted to-” She hesitates, tilting her head. “Well, we did think you were a girl at the time.”
You nod along, unoffended. “Right, but-” You scoff, shaking your head, “I don’t know if I believe this story now. I mean, Jim? Finding me-” You almost say the word, then scoff softly and look down to your lap. “Attractive?”
“Well, you are hot,” Kelly confirms, and you look up quickly at her. You aren’t sure what expression is on your face, but Kelly just laughs. “What? Don’t look at me like that! You were hot when we all thought that you were a girl, and you’re even hotter now that we know you’re a boy!” You laugh in disbelief, shaking your head. Kelly continues on, pushing through your awkwardness. “I mean, c’mon! Confidence is sexy as hell.”
You look away, feeling a blush rise to your cheeks as you remember Jim saying something similar. “Sure, but-” Kelly interrupts you, continuing with her story.
“So once you finally came out, Jim had his own little freak-out because it wasn’t just a theory anymore. It is true, you are a dude, and Jim didn’t know if he could handle you getting hotter and hotter every day.” You flashback to another scene in your head, Jim saying something similar to Pam and you laughing, accusing him of finding Dwight attractive. Was he talking about you at that time? Kelly’s voice brings you back.
“Anyway, I finally told him that he needed to get his act together and ask you out already, or I’d do it first. Either ask you out for myself or for him, but either way. I don’t know if I could stand any more of him spewing about you, I mean- all I heard was Y/N this, or Y/N that, or ‘Wow he’s wearing the tie I gifted him!’ I mean, that man can talk.” You hold back a laugh, shaking your head. The one and only Kelly Kapoor, complaining about someone talking too much. That’d be hilarious to tell Jim- if you ever got the nerve together to tell him about this little conversation.
“Ok,” You huff out, shaking your head, “You’re asking me to believe that Jim not only finds me attractive but wants to date me?”
“Well, that’s where we’re going now! So you better believe it.”
“Going now- but you’re here? The office will be there, how would it be a date?”
“It’s going to be a date,” Kelly starts slowly, looking at you with a grin, “Because it’s not an office hangout. I’m going to drop you off and leave, and then Jim can take you home. I only did this to get you both together outside of work, you’ll be all alone with him.” She huffs, squeezing the steering wheel around her hands. “And I’m telling you all of this before the date because I don’t trust Jim to admit anything to you without pushing him for it. If I’m not there to pressure him, then-”
“Woah woah woah,” You interrupt, shaking your head quickly. “I’m not about to pressure my best friend for- for some wild hope that he might feel the same. And I-” You can feel the panic again, pulling at the seatbelt around your torso. “I don’t know if I can do this, I didn’t know it would be just us, I mean-”
“Calm down, it’ll be fine. It’s just Jim, remember?” ‘It’s just Jim,’ You repeat to yourself as Kelly turns the car into the pub’s parking lot. You take a few deep breaths, nodding your head. ‘Yeah, I can do this. It’s just Jim, just normal ole Jim.’ Kelly backs her car into a space, waiting for Jim’s to arrive. It doesn’t take long to notice Jim’s car pulling in, parking in one of the front parking spaces, directly in your line of sight. You take another deep breath, nodding.
“I can do this,” You whisper, and Kelly reaches over to squeeze your arm. That’s when you watch two of the car doors open, Jim and Pam stepping out to take a look around. You hear a squeak beside you, Kelly’s hand tightening on your arm. You look over with concern, watching panic written across her face.
“Oh, Jim, you bitch,” Kelly whispers, shaking her head.
“This wasn’t part of the plan, was it?”
“Absolutely not,” Kelly whispers, then moves to get out of the car alongside you. You both approach the other two, smiles on your faces. They finally notice you, and it’s almost like you and Jim have locked eyes and thrown away the key. You’re unsure what’s really happening between the two girls, not registering the words exchanged. You walk a little closer to Jim, smiling up at him.
“Hey,” You whisper, and his smile widens, reaching his hand out in an imitation of earlier, tangling your fingers together.
“Hey.” He glances over to the other two girls, wincing and looking back to you. “I wasn’t sure- is it okay that I brought Pam?”
“Apparently,” You whisper, leaning closer and glancing briefly at Kelly to make sure she’s sufficiently distracted, “That wasn’t part of the plan. She told me she was throwing me out of the car and driving off.” You note the blush lighting up Kelly’s cheeks as she talks with Pam, before turning your attention back to Jim. You hadn’t realized you leaned in this close- or did he lean in as well? His face was next to yours, close enough to share a kiss.
“Shall we head inside? Guys?” You both jump apart, and you look guiltily over to Pam, who spoke. She only smiled in response, throwing a thumb over her shoulder. “We could grab a booth?”
Tumblr media
The night was going well. It didn’t really feel like a date like Kelly had hoped it to be, but instead a nice get-together of a couple friends. You all laughed constantly, telling stories and jokes from the office, while also sharing your own life’s stories. No one really talked about their own life outside of the office while they were working, so it was a refreshing twist on things. You felt drawn even closer to the lot of them- Jim, especially, as he couldn’t seem to drag his eyes away from you for too long. You weren’t sure, but you thought it was Jim’s leg under the table pressing against your own. You hoped so, anyway.
“But, yeah, Toby is so weird! You guys don’t get that vibe?” Pam continues, giggling as she sips her mixed drink. Jim and Kelly were the only two keeping away from the alcohol, but you had ordered your favourite mixed drink and had slowly been sipping on it. You knew you weren’t drunk yet, but you were pleasantly tipsy.
“No?” You hesitated, trying to think back over the times you’ve interacted with him. It was more often than most since you worked in the annexe, but he always seemed like a nice, if tired, man.
“It’s cause he has a crush on you,” Kelly nods, laughing alongside Jim. Pam blushes, shaking her head quickly.
“Oh, no, of course not.”
“Well, Kelly would know,” Jim points out with a grin, raising his glass to his mouth and taking a large gulp. You watch confusion rush across Pam’s face, while Kelly’s turns a bright shade of red. She mouthed his name behind her cup, giving him a stern look.
“What does he mean by that?” She asks, looking between you and Kelly, then back at Jim. “What do you mean?”
“Oh,” You begin, laughing under your breath. “Just that Kelly has a lot of experience talking with Toby. He was the one who moved her into the annexe, after all. It almost seems like they have a lot in common?” You end it with a question, trying your best to be vague. Jim almost spits out his drink with his laugh, turning to cough into the crook of his arm.
You hear Pam question, “Yeah, why were you moved into the annexe?” Right as Kelly mumbled from beside you, “Not that much in common. Like one thing.” You and Jim meet eyes, trying to keep the humour from your faces.
The rest of the night passed in much the same way. You still were unsure about the whole ‘Jim liking you’ bit but found yourself pleasantly hopeful. And it seemed like- if that was true- maybe Jim was trying to get back at Kelly by teasing her about liking Pam. You began to wonder if that was his plan all along, showing up with Pam randomly. Honestly, whether this was a double date or just a hang-out with friends, you found yourself enjoying the time immensely. But the night was wearing thin, and all four of you had work in the morning.
As you and Pam were helping each other out of the booths, making sure she hadn’t forgotten her purse, Jim and Kelly had run off to pay the bill. You glanced over at Jim- probably with a longing look since you can’t exactly help it, being slightly inebriated- and watched him lean in close to Kelly as they began whispering back and forth.
“He’s a good guy, y’know.” You look back over to Pam, eyes widening. “I don’t know you well enough yet to know your thoughts on him, but he is a good guy. And he deserves the world.” You chuckle softly, nodding.
“Yeah,” You say breathlessly, looking back over to him. He glanced up at the same time, and you can’t help the smile crossing your face. “I think so too.”
“Then tell him,” Pam insists, and you look back down to her. “He deserves to know that. He thinks he’s not worth your time, apparently.”
“That’s ridiculous-”
“What’s ridiculous?” Jim asks as the other two rejoin you and Pam. Pam smiles brightly leaning over to take Kelly’s arm.
“That you have to drive all the way across town just to drop me off, Jim!”
“Actually, we were just talking about that,” Kelly mumbles, and you smile watching her attempt to hold eye contact with Pam unsuccessfully. “If it’s okay with you, then maybe I could take you home? And Jim can take Y/N.”
“Yes!” Pam practically yells out, and you chuckle softly. You look over toward Jim, seeing him already looking your way.
“If that’s alright with you?” He whispers, and you nod immediately.
“Of course it is, Jim.”
“Good,” Jim says, releasing a breath as if with relief.
“Good,” You parrot, reaching forward boldly to take his hand. “Lead on, then.”
Once you and Jim make it to his car, you both wait before getting in to make sure Pam and Kelly are in their car safe and buckled. Once Kelly begins pulling out, Jim turns to you and leans in closer. “I had a fantastic time today.” You laugh, nodding along, leaning against his car and gravitating toward him.
“I did too. ‘Was surprised that Pam showed up, though.”
“Well, Kelly did say it was ‘the office’ going out for drinks. I thought it’d be fine.”
“Well, she didn’t actually mean the office, apparently. She was just trying to get us alone.” You shrug, smirking up at him. His deer-in-headlights look was gone now, for some reason. He seemed bold, leaning closer and taking your hand.
“And if it was? Would that have been fine?” You laugh again, nodding slowly.
“That would’ve been perfect.” His face slowly loses his teasing look, turning serious- but soft.
“Y/N,” Your name is husky in his mouth as he begins leaning closer, and you can smell his cologne in the air. Everything was so much, his smell, his body heat, his honey-brown eyes as he took up your entire vision. “Can I kiss you?”
“Please,” You whisper in return and meet him halfway as your lips crush together. He pulls the hand not holding yours to your face, lightly caressing your cheek throughout the heated kiss, and you grab hold of his hip with your own free hand, pulling him closer. You can feel him moan through the kiss, turning his head to deepen it. This was nothing like you’ve dreamed of- but oh, so much better.
When you two finally part, breathing heavily, he’s pressing you against his car with the length of his body. You both pant as you stare into each other’s eyes, and your grip slowly loosens on his hip. Eventually, he pulls away, clearing his throat with a blush. “Wow,” He whispers, a smile growing as he looks at you bashfully.
“Yeah,” You agree just as quietly, and Jim moves to open the passenger door for you. “Oh, right. Thank you.”
As you sat down in Jim’s car, ready to be driven home, you can’t help but think: ‘Man, I love working for Dunder Mifflin. Even the bad days can turn into the best ones.’

“wait for me!”
jack kissed your cheek quickly, “i love you, see you soon!” running towards the boys that were already outside and waiting on him.
you were spending the summer in michigan with your boyfriend, jack. you’d hung out with his family and friends a few times before and for some reason, managed to fit in better with them then with most of your real family.
jack was going wakesurfing with his brothers and friends, leaving you and ellen hughes to spend a girls’ day together.
“you sure you don’t want to come?” quinn asked you, walking at a leisure pace even though he was late. you weren’t sure if he didn’t realize he was late, or just didn’t care.
“i’m good,” you laughed a bit. “i’d rather not be the only girl out there today. we all know i’d be the babysitter.”
“of course, quinn’s got that position because you’re not there,” ellen grinned, holding out a hand for the maple syrup.
you passed it to her, giving quinn a suspicious glance, “you just want me to come because you don’t want to babysit? wow, q, just wow,” you shook your head in disappointment.
quinn rolled his eyes lightly, grabbing a waffle and shoving it in his mouth. “no, seriously, y/n. i won’t make you babysit anyone. if they die, that’s on them. you’d enjoy coming with us. we’re heading out on the boat, going wakesurfing, and we’ll probably swim a bit before heading home. it’s gonna be a chill day, you won’t have to babysit.”
you thought about it, but shook your head, “thanks for the offer, q. but… i’ve got a very fun day planned with my mother over here.”
ellen smiled, blowing a kiss in your direction before sticking her tongue out at quinn.
“okay, but you still need to learn how to wakesurf,” he told you. “it’s a life skill, especially for a hughes. you’ve got to learn. tomorrow, i’m taking you, jack, and luke out to the lake. you better be ready.”
“you should be ready,” you told him, motioning towards the door. “the rest of the boys are gone already.”
quinn made a face, looking towards the door.
“shit!” his jaw dropped, finally realizing everyone else had gone. he pressed a quick kiss to his mother and your heads, rushing out the door to catch up with them.
you and ellen shared an exasperated look, laughing.
“he’s too funny,” you muttered.
“he would’ve been on time if he hadn’t spent so long trying to convince you to join them,” ellen pointed out.
“careful, mama hughes,” you tried not to laugh. “you’re letting your favourite child show.”
she laughed loudly at that, “oh please! the boys know you’ve been my favourite since the second jack brought you home. they’ve all accepted it at this point.”
you took another bite of your breakfast, laughing along as you and ellen spoke about anything and everything.
you’d never had a relationship like this with your mother: one where you could speak freely, laugh loudly, and just be happy. she tried to be good, you knew that, but it wasn’t easy. with your father and his controlling personality, there wasn’t much your mother could do for you. you’d forgiven her for how she dismissed his actions through the years, but you weren’t ready to keep your relationship with her.
your dad on the other hand, you hadn’t forgiven him nor were you ready to accept a father-daughter relationship with him. he was distant growing up, never really there for you. he’d comment on what you wore, who you went out with, what you did. every little thing he could find a flaw in, he’d bring it up with you.
with it just being the three of you, you’d never experienced a love like you did with the hughes family.
ellen and jim were closer to you than you were with your own parents. they dropped you off to your first university volleyball game, wishing you luck and cheering you on in the crowd. they showed up to every playoff game, searching for you before to wish you luck and finding you after to tell you how proud they were.
luke was the ‘baby’ of the family, showered with love by absolutely everyone. when you and jack began dating, he was a little jealous of all the attention you’d been receiving, but the second you told off jack for bothering luke, he’d accepted you wholeheartedly.
jack was your best friend, your other half. he understood you better than everyone, and he made sure to put his knowledge to use. whether you had a bad day, or just wanted a hug, he was always there to put everything aside for you.
quinn was like the older brother you never had. the way he looked out for you, dedicated time to teach you new things (like how to change a tire), you felt accepted. you weren’t sure how much jack told him about your relationship with your dad, but sometimes it felt like quinn tried to show everything you missed out on and was determined to make it up to  you.
it was the small things, but every hughes member made you feel like you were one of them.
-
“okay, now stand,” quinn instructed.
“easier said than done,” you muttered, sitting on top of the board.
quinn had decided that the first step to you learning how to wakesurf was to get you to stand on the board. which sounded easy enough, but was proving to be a difficult task thanks to the waves.
you, jack, quinn, and luke had taken the boat out, preparing you for your first wake surfing lesson. jack and luke were currently out in the water, wake surfing as quinn tried to teach you the basics.
“look at me,” quinn told you. he got up on his own board, adjusting his body as the waves threatened to topple him over. “it’s like any sport,” he told you. “sometimes you fall, but that’s okay. as long as you get back up, you’re going to be fine. come on, y/n. you can do it.”
you hesitated, but of course quinn knew exactly how to get you to agree. you thought back to your childhood - learning how to skate with your friends and falling over more times than you could remember, or scraping your knees every time you went to dive in volleyball, or countless other times you were forced to get back up.
“y/n! y/n! y/n! y/n!” luke and jack chanted as they took the boat past you two.
you laughed, feeling a surge of confidence at their enthusiasm.
taking a deep breath, you got up on the board, nearly flipping over as a wave caught you.
“i got you,” quinn waded over to help you. he adjusted the board, holding it in place as you climbed back on it.
“wait, lemme try again,” you said, shooing quinn away.
“that’s what we’re here for today,” he grinned, moving back to let you on the board.
you got up again, lasting for about three seconds before falling over. it took a while, but as you kept trying, you kept getting better. the fact that luke kept speeding by while holding an ‘L’ out towards you spurred you on greatly.
“take that!” you yelled in his direction as you managed to stand on the board without falling for a solid amount of time.
quinn laughed, “think you’re ready for the boat?”
“fuck yeah!” you grinned, pumping your fist up, then promptly losing your balance.
the three boys laughed, helping you get set up on the board. quinn took the wheel, not trusting jack to drive the boat at the exact speed he wanted. luke had his phone out, ready to record the whole thing. the middle hughes leaned over the back of the boat, giving you pointers and encouraging you.
“all you need to do is get back up,” jack reminded you, squeezing your hand.
“if i fall off, don’t laugh,” you told him, getting a little nervous at the realization that you’d never done anything like this before. it looked fun whenever you saw the guys do it, but the idea of you flying off the back had somehow rooted itself in your brain.
“in the impossible chance that you fall off, i will sacrifice my very perfectly tousled hair to jump into the water and save you,” jack promised.
"wow, big words, j."
you grinned lightly, knowing all three of the boys would go after you if you fell off.
quinn started the boat, causing you to stumble slightly.
“you all right?” he called from the boat.
you shot a thumbs up, grinning as you began to get used to the motion. you’d gone surfing before with the hughes, and this was quite similar to it. as quinn noticed you get more comfortable, he sped up a bit, allowing you to try some beginner tricks.
jack cheered you on, leaning so far over the edge of the boat, he almost fell over into the water. luke, who was recording the whole thing, began to laugh so hard, he tripped over his own feet and lay on the ground, still laughing.
you began to feel your own balance waver as you tried not to laugh at the scene. you waved a hand, calling for quinn to stop the boat. jack helped you up into the boat, giving you a kiss and whispering how proud he was.
“what’s wrong? did you get hurt? did you have fun? is it too hard?” quinn made his way towards you, lost as he’d missed the encounter with the boys.
“i’m fine, i’m fine,” you promised, your cheeks hurting from how hard you were grinning. “i was just - these two are idiots, and i can’t stop laughing.”
luke still lay on the deck of the boat, laughing again at the reminder.
“i didn’t want to fall off because they’re making me laugh,” you told quinn. “but that was so much fun! if it weren’t for the other two, i’d be doing better tricks than the rest of you ever could.”
luke scoffed, before playing the video of jack nearly falling into the water again and laughing.
jack rolled his eyes, grabbing his younger brother and sticking him in a headlock.
you turned back to quinn, a little surprised that you weren’t even shocked when the hughes began wrestling each other.
the first time you saw jack jump on luke and wrestle him, you’d thought they were insane. then quinn told you that’s just how brothers act, before grabbing both of them in a headlock and sending them off.
“you were good out there, y/n/n,” he grinned, patting your head. “by the end of the summer, you’ll be better than the rest of us. trust me.”
you grinned, “thanks, quinn. i wouldn’t have the guts to get on that board if you didn’t convince me. like, if there’s ever a problem with the whole hockey player thing, you’d make an amazing pay-by-the-hour older brother.”
quinn laughed at that, shaking his head in amusement. “meh, i’d much rather be an older brother to my family. even if i don’t get paid while doing it.” he made a face at the sight of luke trying to wriggle his way out of the headlock and jack whispering furiously in his ear, “speaking of not getting paid for being an older brother, that’s my cue to break them up.”
you sat against the seat, smiling to yourself at the sight of the boys just being boys. one of quinn’s sentences made you grin from ear to ear.
he said he’d much rather be an older brother to his family. he’d included you in that.
you were family.

“Hi! Y/N Y/L/N? is that right?” a redhead girl approached you, hugging her skateboard. You assume she’s a middle-schooler, seeing her wary eyes as she enter the high school campus. You nod.
She sighs in relief, her body relaxing a little. “I heard that you do tutoring? Are you still available to tutor another student?” she asks.
“Actually, I’m not teaching anyone as of the moment so I have all the time after school to tutor” You say.
“Oh that’s great! I’m Maxine Mayfield by the way, but please call me Max. Will you be free today after school? So you can coordinate with my parents? and hopefully start today” Max rambles, fidgeting the hem of her jacket.
“Sure!” you smile.
She pulls a crumpled piece of paper and a pen in the pocket of her bag. She lifts her knee and put his skateboard on top, writing her details.
Handing out the crumpled paper to you, “4819 Cherry Lane, I’ll see you at 6. You can eat dinner there”.
"Alright see you!” you say as your wave each other goodbye.
・°☆
You turn your car at the house with the number 4819, and see a blue camaro in front looks familiar you thought. You park beside the shiny car and made your way to the front door.
Dusting off your pants and making small fixes on your shirt. But before you could even knock on the door, a tall blonde man barged outside the door, startling you. You watched him approach his car in disbelief, didn’t even bother to apologize or even look at you.
As he opened the driver’s seat, you took a good look at him. It’s Billy Hargrove
“Hi! You must be Y/N? I’m Neil and sorry about my son. You know, just a little misunderstanding” A man, wearing glasses interrupted your thoughts.
“Oh y-yes that’s right” you reply.
“Please come in”
He leads you to the dining table, and there you see a woman, who looks like Max. And of course, Max who’s smiling excitedly at you. “Hi!” she waves at you.
You sat down beside Max, handing out to you the roasted chicken.
“So how much do you charge and what do you teach?” The woman asked.
“I charge $3 per hour, and I usually teach middle-schoolers and sometimes those in pre-school and elementary. I teach all subjects most of the time” you say.
“Wow that’s really impressive. We’re also good with your price, can you start today?” Neil asked.
“Yup!” you reply.
・°☆
Max brings you to her room and grabbed a spare chair for you.
“So you and Billy are siblings?” you wondered.
“Uhm no, he’s my stepbrother and an asshole” she replied, emphasizing the word stepbrother.
You nod as you take a seat beside her.
“Before we start, is it okay if they pay you like every end of the week? my mom and stepdad are usually gone, so yeah” Max asks as she look through notebook.
“Sure no problem” you reply.
・°☆
An hour and a half has passed, and you see 8:03 on the clock. You look at Max who just finished the activity you gave her on Physics. She gives you her paper, a little scared.
Giving a small pat on her shoulder you reassure, “don’t be nervous Max, you can do it. Besides I’m here to teach and guide you every step of the way”
After checking her work, you gave her a wide smile and a thumbs up.
“Good job! you only made three mistakes but that’s a huge improvement. I’m so proud of you” you cheer.
Max sits up straight, energy filling her body. She claps her hands excitedly like a little kid, “Oh my god! I did it! Thank you Y/N, you’re so smart”
“I told you you can do it! and there you have it the end of our first session! So, I’ll see you tomorrow? same time?” you ask.
“Yup, see you!” she reply.
You stand up and help Max tidy up her table. Piling up pieces of paper, picking up books and putting them inside the girl’s bag. You hear a loud roar of a car outside which startled the both of you.
“He’s back” Max says, rolling her eyes.
・°☆
You both go outside the room, and hear soft giggles. You and Max go further and see Billy with Carol, arm around her waist, entering the household.
You made eye contact with Carol who’s looking you up and down with disgust. i want to gauge this bitch’s eye out you thought. God how much you loathe Carol, boosting her self-esteem by making fun of other people, judging them as if she’s perfect. You were never really made fun or judged by her, (not until now) but you are aware of how poorly she treats other students in school.
“Who are you?” Billy asks annoyed.
“She’s Y/N, my tutor. And if you don’t mind, get out of the fucking way” Max replies, motioning the pair to move aside.
She grabs you by the shoulder and quickly bring you to your car. And you swear you felt eyes staring at you from behind as you go out.
Billy watches as the girls left the house, checking you out of course.
she’s pretty
“I’m so sorry about him, I assure you he won’t be around during our tutoring sessions”
“It’s okay Max, no need to apologize” you reassure.
You step in your car and bid your goodbyes.
Well that was something

Beautiful
Tumblr media
Neteyam × female! Metkayina! reader
All moments, situations, encounters, despite their utmost challenging nature, are, at their very core, unimaginably beautiful. The infatuation of one's eyes are yet to fully display the extent of beauty that is yet to be discovered. However, Neteyam, solely when laying eyes on her, knows he is the only one who trully knows the meaning of beauty.
Word count: 4.6k
Tags: fluff, just Neteyam being down bad for reader.
A/n: hi! So, this is the first thing I ever published, I hope it's of your liking! I don' like adding y/n all the time, so I gave reader the name Zoraya! I must say english is not my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes, also, I wrote this in a weird mix between 2nd and 3rd person, hopefully it won't bother y'all♡
Tumblr media
To say the sea was beautiful was an understatement.
Upon his arrival, Neteyam couldn’t help but gasp, if ever so slightly, once his bright eyes were laid upon the enormous body of water. It was unlike anything he had ever seen before. The water, crystal clear and shiny as a diamond, extended far beyond his sight could reach, so much so that it made his eyes seem pointless. It made him stare in wonder at how far they had gone, at how far away his home was, at how much they left behind.
He wasn’t one to complain. Perhaps such trait arises from the fact that he was the oldest, the most mature among the Sully children, the example among his brothers and sisters that his father expected him to be and that, in time, he expected himself to become as well. And even though he never voiced discomfort about leaving his people, his forest, and his home behind, there was no denying it that Neteyam was not happy with the idea of abandoning everything once his father spoke to him about it. Yet the scenery displayed before his very eyes… he wouldn’t mind waking up to it for the rest of his days.
“Wow…” Kiri sighed, as stunned as she ever was when seeing something new in her common surroundings. “Maybe this won’t be too bad.” She smiled, hopeful, trying to convince herself more than anything else. Of course, she was ever doubtful of this change, and at this point, Neteyam believed even his father wasn’t as sure of this idea as he tried to seem before his family.
“Sure hope so,” Lo’ak mumbled with a low, displeased tone. It was evident that out of all of them, he was the most unsure of the situation at hand, besides Neytiri, of course, and the most willing to voice his discontent.
“We will be fine brother. As long as your ass doesn’t decide to do anything stupid, I’m sure you will be able to survive.” Neteyam said with a big grin on his face, eyeing his brother with mockery. It was no secret that Lo’ak could be quite a handful sometimes, more so to his big brother, who was accustomed to often taking the blame for him. “That is, of course, if father doesn’t kill you before we even arrive, which now that I think about it, seems more likely. Yeah, forget it, you definitely won't make it.” Neteyam knew how to upset his younger brother perfectly, and that by itself unnerved Lo’ak, whose answer was accompanied by a certain indecent hand gesture, proudly lifting both of his middle fingers towards his brother.
“Yeah, screw you, perfect boy.”
Neteyam let out a shameless laugh at his brother’s actions. Perhaps annoying the hell out of Lo’ak would make the situation less depressing for him, if ever so slightly.
The family was getting closer and closer to the shore, and with each passing second, Neteyam felt some kind of nervousness arising from within his chest. They were delving into something new, something different to what he was accustomed to, being so that he grew up within green forests, tall trees and the utter beauty Eywa had to offer in the land. The scenery before him was completely foreign, as foreign as his family was to the clan that now glared at them in wonder, and perhaps distrust, once their feet finally touched land. It was well known that the Omaticaya weren’t ones to leave the comfort of the forest, much less to an environment so different as it was the sea; the water. Not only that, but the Metkayina clan was not accustomed to receiving visits, much less from na’vi from land so far as it was the Omaticaya.
Suffice to say, the encounter was awkward.
His first impression was to notice how different the Metkayina were. Their skin, as strong and resistant as his own, was painted a much paler hue, while their tails appeared to be stronger to grant them the capacity of better mobility within the water.
He couldn't help but feel like he didn't belong among the clan just from looks alone. The sentiment made him slightly insecure, being surrounded by people who (for the most part) did not welcome him, and much worse, did not welcome his family. Yet their safety was at stake, and Neteyam was anything if not protective, so he could do little more than to lower the head and let his father speak on their behalf, he knew better.
'I see you' He politely signaled to everyone around him, gently nudging his sisters to do the same. The gesture was heavy on significance, as if granting respect to the mighty Na'vi surrounding them. He could do little more than that.
He stood tall before all his brothers and sisters, just slightly before Lo'ak and just behind his father and mother, as if to demonstrate he was the eldest son. The strongest. A subtle reminder and, why not, camouflaged intimidation, towards some Metkayina males who were making fun of Lo'ak and Kiri.
His father spoke to the people in a tone he's never heard before. As serious as ever; as confident as ever, yet desperate. His towering form remained still as imposing while his voice slightly wavered. It was to be expected, his family's destiny was at stake, a gamble he was not willing to lose.
Neteyam slowly raised his eyes beyond the crowd to glance at the houses of the village. They were lovely. The lively voices and laughter of children playing in the distance was the only factor that gave him a sense of familiarity, that, and the calming sound of the waves, which strangely enough, resembled the wild noises he often heard inside the forest.
His eyes swayed towards the waves once more, where more Metkayina people were arising from its depths to witness their unexpected arrival.
That's when he saw it. Saw her.
A young female emerging slowly from within the vast ocean, her beautiful braided hair wet with the reminiscent of the water she was once in. She wore bright eyes like he had never seen before, and a grace that made him inevitably suck his breath as water dripped down her form.
She used beautiful, small gemstones on her garments, skin and hair with colors that resembled the water, in such a delicate way that, if for a fleeting moment, left Neteyam out of breath.
She is like nothing he has ever seen before.
Unlike anyone he has ever seen before.
…she is gorgeous.
He could only imagine how foolish he must have looked. Dumbfounded, unable to tear his eyes from her silhouette, unable to remain calm, unable to stop his heart from beating so damn fast at the mere sight of her squeezing her hair in an attempt to get the ocean water out of it.
What the hell was happening to him?
He was more than capable of riding an Ikran, hunting, killing, and yet… a beautiful girl he had only looked at had him relenting in the most stupid and embarrassing way he had ever seen.
And then the worst happened.
She looked their way.
Looked at him.
Never in his life has he felt so fucking weak. So fucking bashful and flustered.
He cleared his throat one, two, three times, his imposing stance dwindling preposterously while his nervous eyes quickly averted from one way to another, all to diligently avoid her gaze and the fact that he was so shamelessly staring at her. Intently.
What should he do? Should he look back her way? What if she thinks he is a freak? Much worse, what if she thinks he is an ugly, stalker freak? For Eywa's sake he wouldn't be able to live with himself from the embarrassment if that were the case. His brain couldn't compute a calm solution to his terrible dilemma, which is why he merely settled on looking the other way, a hand on his neck, trying to dissimulate the absolute wreck that was going on inside his mind.
Don't look her way again. Don't you fucking dare to look her way again. Just don't turn your eyes, you will look like a goddamn fool if you do it once more.
He convinced himself.
No he didn't.
He ever so slightly turned his head around, slowly, as if his life depended on it, to catch a glimpse of her once more if only through the corner of his eye.
That's when he clenched his jaw in nervousness, fisting his hands until his nails dug into the skin.
She was approaching.
"What's gotten into you dude?" Lo'ak murmured, noticing the way his older brother moved, how his broad shoulders faltered and his stance lowered suddenly and without a seeming explanation.
"Nothing, nothing." He repeated himself after silently clearing his throat. He felt flustered beyond explanation, lowering his head while occasionally shooting a fleeting, short glance at her.
She is beautiful.
Lo'ak, curious, confused, looked the way his brother's eyes were constantly eyeing, until he landed on a young Metkayina walking towards the crowd.
Oh.
Oh.
"I see, I see." He said, teasingly. Shooting his brother a stupid grin that got on his very last nerve. "Good luck bro." Lo'ak's tone was awfully mocking, destroying what was left of Neteyam's dignity, while with his hand, he patted his brother's shoulder as if with pity. "You definitely won't make it."
Oh, he would annoy the living hell out of Neteyam.
"Shut the hell up." He smacked his brother's head with a low hiss, not as hard as he wished, for he'd be damned to act like so in front of the people who had yet to welcome them in their clan.
Lo'ak let out a low 'ow!', and he was about to shoot back at his brother until he noticed the piercing, murderous glance their mother was giving him from the corner of her eye.
Fucking hell.
Merely that made him stay in place, completely stiff and unmoving, straight face and wide eyes.
Neytiri looked at him knowingly, to then stand again, stone faced and valiant beside her husband.
Lo'ak let out a relieved sigh, watching his brother once more, and noticing how his eyes carefully scanned the female that now, was beside Ronal.
'I-I see you" He signaled, albeit clumsily, to the girl in front of him that captivated his eyes. How he managed to stutter while fucking signaling is beyond him and Lo'ak, who mentally facepalmed at his sentimentally constipated brother, yet all of the embarrassment and distress he went through just a couple of minutes ago was worth it.
For she smiled.
At him.
His heart couldn't stop racing.
But it got worse. She laughed. She laughed and his heart couldn't take it. A laugh so delightful that almost had him on his knees from how beautiful it sounded. From how downright adorable her laughing features were.
He didn't understand how na'vi women could be so beautiful.
No, how the one in front of him could be so beautiful.
And once he saw her delicately signal to him back, 'I see you', with a smile that made her bright eyes crinkle ever so slightly, he just knew he smiled like a fool.
She is cute. So, very cute.
"This is Zoraya, our second child." Ronal spoke harshly, with an imposing tone governing her strong voice, grabbing her daughter by the shoulder and gently shoving her forward before the Sully family, which had Lo'ak wiggling his eyebrows knowingly and without shame at his older brother who, in exchange, looked like he would murder Lo'ak right then and there if only he could. "I expect her to show your children and guide them in the Metkayina ways." She stated, glaring at the foreign kids in front of them, not bothering to cover at all her distrust, until she followed with a menacing hiss. "We do not need useless mouths to feed."
This unnerved Neytiri, who in exchange, responded with a hiss of her own, which made Jake quickly apologize on her behalf
"Do not worry. Our daughter is well versed in the matters of hunting, healing and riding the Ilu. Your children will be fine." Tonowari stepped in in a swift manner, trying to comfort an altered Neytiri the best he could, gently nodding at Jake who looked at him with gratitude. "The rest of our children shall also teach your kids all they have to know. And I expect everyone to accept the new family as one from our very own. Treat them like our brothers and sisters, for they are now part of our family." Tonowari announced this to his people, despite receiving odd looks from some who seemed adamant to accept the Omaticaya within their village. Yet there were no objections.
And so the Metkayina dissipated from what was once a crowd around the new family, leaving behind the children of the Tsahìk and Olo'eyktan.
"Behave. I don't want any of you causing any trouble. Have I made myself clear?" Jake said with a tone resembling a commander talking to his soldiers. All of them nodded adamantly. Jake let out a stern 'good', before turning around with his wife to follow Tonowari, not before kindly acknowledging the kids that would show his children the Metkayina ways with a nod.
"As you already heard, my name is Zoraya. Don't be nervous, I'll make sure to teach you all you have to know to become one of us." She smiled kindly, her eyes settling for a fleeting moment on Neteyam, who looked at her intently. "This is my sister, Tsireya," The young na'vi bowed her head upon hearing her name, a gentle smile to reconfort the new kids on her face. "And this is-"
"Ao'nung." He cut her sister's sentence, grimacing menacingly at the na'vi in front of him with a slight tilt of his head. "Be sure to remember it." He let out a loud hiss, displaying rather plainly his discomfort at the new na'vi on the island, and quickly leaving his sisters with little regard for the duty his father bestowed upon him.
"Don't mind him. He can be rather rude sometimes. Consequences of not having a brain." Zoraya muttered, though making sure she spoke loud enough for her brother to hear her comment, winking in a friendly manner at Tuk, who seemed rather intimidated by Ao'nung. The small girl, tugging Neteyam's hand, shyly smiled at Zoraya with kindness, which made Zoraya giggle ever so slightly.
"What is your name, little one?" Tsireya kneeled close to Tuk, who was gently nudged forward by her older brother, giving her slight courage to speak.
"Tuktirey." She said, fidgeting with her hands.
"Such a pretty name for a pretty lady, don't you think Zoraya?" Tsireya said, caressing her hair in such a motherly way that had Tuk smiling widely at the compliment.
"Oh, definitely! Not only that, but it sounds like the name of a fierce warrior, don't you think?" Zoraya exclaimed, a hand on her chin, with an expression of surprise and wonder adorning her kind features, until she smiled, noticing how the small girl's eyes instantly lit up at her comment.
"Well, you are definitely right, I am a fierce warrior! Just you wait and see!" Tuk said, raising her hands in excitement, smiling at Zoraya, while quickly taking Tsireya's hand in anticipation.
Neteyam merely observed with a warm look on his face.
"You seem to be good with kids." Neteyam approached her, giving himself courage to speak to her while overcoming the quick beating of his heart which couldn't help but speed up at the sight of the na'vi in front of him, and the adorable scene that just transpired before his very eyes.
Zoraya turned around to look at him with a giggle.
"Yes, well, I'm rather fond of kids. The children in the village are all lovely, good kids." She said, and Neteyam smiled, letting out a low 'I see.' as a response. Zoraya noticed this, feeling her face heat up at the handsome na'vi with bright eyes and fulminant stare before her. She had never seen anyone with features such as his. Gentle and strong, both at the same time, with kind, pretty eyes and a smile so delightful like water on a hot  day. "And what shall your name be?" Zoraya shifted her full attention to the oldest, tilting her head curiously while her sister conversed with Lo'ak and Kiri.
"Neteyam, my name is Neyetam." He nodded with resolve, his nervous voice betraying  his tone.
"Well, I hope our lessons go well, Neteyam."
She smiled, and he was infatuated.
Stunning.
Your hand was gently placed on his chest, fingers grasping the dark blue skin beneath with care. You took a deep breath, eyes closed, in order to feel his breathing, feel him. Your fingers moved around carefully upon the warm surface beneath them, being sure to touch with care as if you were brushing with the tips of your fingers his very soul.
She was absolutely stunning.
Tumblr media
The beating of his heart beneath you started increasing swiftly, as though he was fiercely running from a relentless foe. You touched him further, a slight frown on your features upon realizing that –for some reason– wherever and whenever you touched his chest and abdomen in such a delicate manner, his heart went mad, and his skin seemed to burn. You got closer, gently grazing his chest with your palm and he flinched ever so slightly at your touch.
"Neteyam?" Your voice was low, calming. Tender in such a way that, somehow, got him even more nervous, more so now, that you were so close to him. He could feel your touch on his skin, your breath nearing his neck and it drove him mad. With every passing second he couldn't help but feel like he was burning on the inside, as if your soft fingers left a gentle trail of heat on his chest and abdomen.
"Yes, Zoraya?" He responded softly, somehow swallowing the utter nervousness within his brain, head tilted in your direction, his eyes never leaving your face.
You were so beautiful, even more so up close (he didn't even know how that was possible), that he couldn't help but stare at you in wonder, with an infatuation so evident that had Kiri rolling her eyes in the distance.
"Your heart is beating too fast." You slowly opened your eyes to look up at him, just to meet with the fact that he was already looking at you, beautiful yellow eyes like you've never seen before piercing your stare.
He is beautiful.
You had never seen a hue such as the one of his skin, blue as the sky on a gentle night, and so, so very beautiful.
And eyes so strong and tender at the same time, piercing at their own way, but full with a sense of duty, of responsibility, yet never rude nor egotistical, rather lenient, selfless.
And his smile. So full of life, of an air that resembled the sea on a hot summer night. So genuine and bright, as if the sun itself graced you with one of its radiant rays.
"Is that so?" He whispered, leaning closer to you to scan your face, and grinning upon noticing a slight, adorable flush on your cheeks.
"Y-yes." He looked at you so downright adoringly that it was always inevitable for you to get flustered; to shy away from his adoration, from his smiles, from how he sometimes winked at you from afar, yet still got nervous when you were so close. You shook your head slightly, trying to focus on the task at hand, while putting a little distance between you two by gently pushing him to lessen your flustered state. "You ought to slow it down. We have practiced so many times before yet your heart never seems to remain still." You frowned, uncertain. Neteyam was a great warrior, pretty much exceptional at any task; perks of being burdened since birth you suppose, yet a single breathing exercise with you proved to be his weakness. The one thing he could never achieve fully, despite months of practice together.
He let out a small chuckle
"Well it's rather difficult you see." Neteyam answered, grinning.
Lo'ak rolled his eyes when watching the scene from afar. Truth is, Neteyam had long grasped the Metkayina breathing techniques, more so, mastered them, yet still seeked your help whenever possible. Seeked your company, your presence. He enjoyed your voice, the sweet tone it had, how you spoke and how, whenever he made you laugh, the corner of your eyes would slightly crinkle.
He enjoyed the way you talked about things you like, and how you would just sit down and listen, staring at him in wonder, with those big, adorable eyes of yours, whenever he spoke about the forest, about the environment that used to be his home.
He enjoyed your soft touches on his skin, how concentrated you'd get to feel his lungs, his breathing. And every time, his heart couldn't take it. His feelings couldn't take it.
You were so beautiful.
"Let me try again." He took your hand to place it on his chest once more, proning you to stand still, stand closer to him, smiling to you so brightly that had you smirking in return. "I'm sure I'll get it this time."
Tumblr media
Unimaginably beautiful.
He always kept such thoughts sealed within, whether it be on his mind, or in sappy pieces of writing he often tried to commit to paper to, finally, give one to you some day. However, after finishing each letter, he couldn't help but feel like they were lacking, not only on skill but also on describing you.
Today, however, the thought came out of his lips for the first time, without thinking it twice, as though the words were ingrained on his very skin and mind.
He was practicing with Tsireya and his brothers when he heard a distant, sweet laugh he could recognize anywhere. His ears twitched, turning around slyly to catch a glimpse of you, swimming with some children nearby.
He noticed the way you maintained them close to the shore, helping them submerge properly, and showing them the kind creatures that lived underwater.
Neteyam couldn't help but chuckle when he saw a little kid get behind you devishly. You obviously noticed the little, not-so-stealthy girl's plan, yet acted fool, looking for her with an exaggerated tone and your hands on your waist, until she splashed you with water, a playful 'Hey!' coming out of your lips right after. You splashed the girl right back with little force. That's when the rest of the children decided to attack you, all of them relentlessly throwing water at you with big smiles on their faces.
You laughed, playfully trying to get to them, yet failing miserably upon facing their endless water attacks.
Neteyam chuckled when he saw you, completely defenseless against them, beaten by kids. He shifted his body to better witness the scene.
After a couple of minutes, the kids ran out of the water full of laughter, escaping from you. You were left alone in the water, fully drenched, hair dripping and body completely soaked. You chuckled at the interaction, shaking your head.
"I'll be back soon." Neteyam muttered to the people around him and, without expecting to receive a response nor looking back, he hurriedly approached you with a smile. Tsireya and Lo'ak smirked knowingly when noticing where he was headed, and did nothing to stop him.
You noticed him quickly, beaming at him from the water you still were in, trying to get your hair out of your face, dealing with the consequences of your previous battle.
"Quite the war you had with them." Neteyam said mockingly, now a few meters from you, grabbing you by your elbows to get you closer to him.
You couldn't help but let out a low laugh, placing your hands on his chest with care.
"You saw all of it? Well, that's embarrassing." You said, shaking your head in defeat, which got Neteyam tilting his head while smirking at you. "I still won though."
"Zoraya, I'm sure you lost." Neteyam retorted between laughs, for your defeat was a fact that couldn't be denied, not even by you. His hands sneakily lowered, scavenging your skin, until settling on your waist with tenderness, trying to get you ever so close to him as possible. "Are you alright?" His thumb caressed your skin gently, murmuring the question with affection.
"I'm fine, my ego is the only one hurt here." You placed your hands on his shoulders, then around his neck, like you did many times before behind closed doors and far from prying eyes.
Neteyam looked at you in amusement, a quiet and adoring laugh leaving his lips when placing his eyes on you.
You were as beautiful as the day he first saw you, if not even more. The past months he spent with you were the happiest he had ever been, making him thank Eywa for getting your paths intertwined in such an intimate, endearing way.
He believes he would never get tired of looking at you. Of perceiving every detail of your face with an infatuated look, because every time, he found something new; something so adorable that he was sure he was doomed, fallen and struck down by nothing but love. Love for you. Yet if adoration was to be his damnation, he would gladly take it one and a million times, as long as he can see you smile at him.
He took a strand of your hair, placing it lovingly behind your ear, to then stroke softly your cheek.
"You are so beautiful." Neteyam murmured, and you smiled, flustered. His thumb moved against your cheek, and you leaned on his big palm, closing your eyes in comfort. "I mean it."
His face slowly got nearer to your own, your bodies flush against each other, with Neteyam firmly holding your waist with one hand. You held your breath in anticipation, with excitement and utter happiness pooling on your chest when realizing your closeness.
"Zoraya…" He whispered, so drunk in love and adoration that made your stomach flutter. You could feel his breath against your lips, ever so close yet still not pressed upon yours. "May I…?" He asked for permission, thumb caressing your cheek expectantly once more.
You merely nodded, and he was quick. Quick to join your lips and kiss you like a starved man, as if he was waiting for you for a million years. He held you close, impossibly close, your heart beating uncontrollably against your chest, feeling him as you had never before.
You cut the kiss to breathe for a quick second, yet he trailed behind your lips, refusing to let you go.
"Again." He murmured, before connecting your lips once more and flushing you against him again.
You were like a drug he couldn't get enough of, lips so soft he wished to kiss them forever, get the memory of you ingrained in his flesh that even upon death he shall feel you as close as he did that day, when you shared you first kiss. The first of many yet to come.
He finally broke the kiss, an adorable smile adorning his lips, while he pressed his forehead to yours.
"You are insatiable." You chuckled at him, putting one hand on top of his, to caress it tenderly.
"How can I not be?" He said in a whisper, looking at you once more, kissing your forehead lovingly.
You smiled.
Beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful.

I'M ALIVE (BARELY) !! Work is kicking my ass. Also, lots of things went wrong for me this morning, but they all worked out in the end ?? Like I forgot to set my alarm, had to bring my mom's phone to her job bc she forgot it, my bus ended up running late because the doors would get stuck at stops. But I woke up on time, caught the bus after taking the phone, and made it early to work because the bus forgot to take the detour? My luck is insane (thanks Mammon.)
ANYWAY, i can no longer contain my thoughts about Mammon x Solomon x Mc. I'm just imagining my mc and Solomon who are both very curious, and love messing around with potions at purgatory hall, and finding alternatives to rare ingredients. This has definitely gone wrong a bunch of times (most days without a potion incident: 4)
and I'm imagining Mammon tagging along bc he misses mc and is jealous that Sol is taking up their time, but denies all claims - "I'm assigned to protect ya, ain't I?" "From Solomon?" "W-Well, he's a shady sorcerer!"
He sits on the floor by mc's feet, and will fetch them things because he can't say no to them. But he spends so much time listening to them brainstorm, he starts learning and will chime in randomly. Mc and Sol who are stuck on what to add, Mammon drops something in there, and they're both horrified until they realize the potion is perfect now. He just has a little database in his mind of what to add to something, and rare ingredients that the two wish they could get their hands on.
Thinking about Mammon doing a favor for a witch and she tells him to pick anything in her collection since she's low on money. He was about to be angry when he saw an ingredient that they've both been complaining is rare and hard to find. He asks the witch for that and then brings it to the two. He acts all nonchalant about it, trying to brush it off. Mc tackles him, meanwhile Solomon is in awe and staring with a twinkle in his eye.
Now Mammon starts requesting trades with witches, for a lower portion of grimm. Gets ingredients he knows they dream about, because the way mc and sol will get all giddy after he presents them with his earnings makes his stomach flip (he will never admit this)
"This is missing something" Solomon
"Yeah but I can't figure out what" MC
"Have you tried *insert seemingly common ingredient that doesn't work for most things*" Mammon
"But no one uses that, it's why we're always stuck with it" MC
"Couldn't hurt to try. See, watch." Mammon.
"WAIT, MAMMON DON'T- ... IT WORKED!?" Mc/Sol
----
"MAMMON HOW THE HELL DID YOU GET THIS, IT ONLY BLOOMS ONCE EVERY 100 YEARS" mc
"Dunno, got it from a random witch. Said she didn't need it. *spent two hours haggling with said witch*"
"...am I in love?" Solomon, reevaluating life
"Eh? What are ya mumbling about? If you're gonna thank me, I want it loud and clear!"
my crack ship <3 they mean everything to me. I caved and hunted down the plushies of them on ebay too. ALSO I GOT TWO OF MY COMMISSIONS BACK AND I'M 😭 they're perfect !!! I'm so so happy with them. Literally the lock screen is beautiful bc it's me and mammon cuddling (HIS MUSCLES CC!! IM DYING) and it looks like it was taken by like asmo or something who walked in to wake us up.
i think I'm also a hopeless romantic, I'm just scared of confronting my feelings lol (you're right in that it is worth it, I just need to figure out how to be brave </3). I throw myself into romance books and fanfics. Vaguely related, thinking about coffee shop au with barista!Mammon and college student!Solomon.
OKAY SORRY IM DONE RAMBLING 😭 HAVE A GOOD DAYYYY
- ✨ anon
Wow that does sound like a crazy morning!! I'm glad it all worked out, though~ Mammon is totally watching out for you!
OKAY but all of that sounds exactly like Mammon! I mean, he's super smart, he just doesn't usually bother to apply himself to anything. So it totally makes sense that he'd just pick up things because he's spending time with MC and Solomon. And then of course he's gonna end up seeing rare ingredients and being like, okay yeah I'm taking that. That all sounds absolutely adorable~
I'm curious about whether or not Solomon and Mammon would make a pact in this situation? I mean, if it's both of them and your MC that are in the relationship, do you think they would? Do you think Solomon would move past his obsession with getting a pact with Lucifer and end up in one with Mammon instead?
I always felt like Solomon doesn't really get Mammon, you know? But that doesn't mean he can't learn. And oh man, Solomon is such a tease and Mammon is so not good at being teased lol. That idea is giving me so many entertaining images, I can't even handle it.
Anyway, I'm totally here for it! It sounds really cute~
I'm so glad you're happy with your comms!!! They sound amazing!
And don't worry, you'll figure it out. I don't know how old you are, but I suspect you have plenty of time! It's a balancing act, you know? It's important to be honest with yourself about your feelings without letting them control you. But it's easier to decide what to do about them if you know what they are. Anyway, not to get all philosophical over here lol. I think the key is to find someone you want to be brave for, you know?
AUGH I love coffee shop aus sooooooo much!!! I was very obsessed with the idea of barista!Mammon for a while, mostly because of a daily chat where he was working at a cafe and then got into a fight with customer. He's good at finances, so I think he could be pretty business minded if he wanted to be. So I was thinking about a situation where he owns his own cafe, but when the customers get rude with one of his fellow baristas, he gets into a fight with them lol. I hadn't really considered who that other barista was, but it could be MC.
Anyway, I could ramble about coffee shop aus all day because I love them aklsdlkfjdfjkl
I hope you have a lovely day/night, too!!

finished my rewatch of gravity falls today so here's some random thoughts i wrote down over the course of the last few episodes (sure most of this has been mentioned already but eh. no harm in repeating things):
-could you imagine how differently things would've gone if any of the pines members knew about ford's nightmare (especially stan)
-ford visibly shaking from how hard he's digging his fingers into the floor (referring to the security droid grabbing him)
-ford almost dies three times before bill actually captures him
-'i haven’t been able to find grunkle stan anywhere' was stan not at the shack at that time or did you just not consider checking his house
-a full limerick for 'man from kentucky' wasn’t allowed, but onscreen death is??
-shapeshifter wink + mabeland fake wendy wink
-why is the unicorn half petrified? what caused the gnome to be mostly petrified, but not quite? how was woodpecker guy able to keep his petrified woodpecker? so many questions about these guys. what occurred here
-first time ford gets turned to "gold", he appears cracked. the second time, he’s free of cracks. implication: either the stone/"gold" people get turned into cracks over time or bill roughed ford up a bit even before the torture
-bill disassembles ford and reassembles him on the other side of the room. interesting to consider for. y'know. torture
-speaking of bill, WHY DO YOU HAVE EIGHT EYELASHES NOW. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO HAVE SEVEN
-love fiddleford so much. and also zanthar. and craz and xyler. and soos. and-
-manly dan hugs wendy more gently than soos does
-'(strangely genuine) good to see you too bro >:(' i'm sorry stan did seeing your brother trapped in a horrifying gold-ish statue change your tune a bit
-i agree with the circle actually. the fuck are you doing, stan.
-i feel like the stan twins were strangled in different ways. it seems like ford was literally being strangled and bill was doing something directly to stan's lungs, based on the way they reacted to it. or i'm looking way too much into the animation who knows
-the way stan kneels on the ground :((((
-actually every scene with post-deal stan in it
-ford ultimate depression
-waddles was waiting for them :(((((((((
-stan lies in different ways depending on what he remembers (referring to him lying about the destroyed house being a nice place to be polite)
-'someone get waddles off of me!!' ford: :0 :D
-this also implies that ford learned waddles name at some point
-was wondering why pacifica seemed to have a bit of a character regression. then realized that she had to live with her abusive parents after the party. they uh. they need to be obliterated (heck you can even tell there's a sort of distance between them based on the fact that pacifica's parents wait for her to come to them, as opposed to the corduroys running to wendy immediately. it's not even a durland + blubs situation, they are fully aware of their surroundings at this point)
-pacifica's still trying her best though!!
-ford sings happy birthday with everyone else :)))
-ford's hair grows out really quickly
-'heh' resulting in an immediate :0 until ford keeps talking, at which point stan smiles again
-stan did you think that laugh was intended to be a 'that's ridiculous stan why would you ever think that' type deal and not a 'wow i love talking to you this is great' type thing
-'SHUT UP FOREVER'
-'CAN IT SOOS' in sync (hey ford you learned his name!)
-stan's 'don’t test me >:(' implication vs ford's 'i have killed and i will do it again' implication
-ford comforting hand on shoulder. stan looking shocked until he sees ford smiling at him. grgaggasgg
-fucking love these two
-stan writes in print in all caps (this might mean nothing to you but trust me there is a reason i'm pointing it out)
-ford doing the hand thing in the credits
-'ford hates mabel' DID YOU MISS THE FUCKING TURKEY
that's it that's all of the thoughts
it can go in the tag cause. why not, y'know?

Estera - Ch 30 - Introduce
It’s been a while… nearly a fortnight, but they’re back ;)
What went before
I struggled with this one, dunno why, but most of the good ideas and one-liners are down to @sofasurf! So much so I’m tagging her in for the next one.
This chapter is 100% silly friends being silly and daft brothers being daft because everyone needs to let their hair down once in a while… And they need a break before anything else falls on anyone…
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
The three “your contact is typing” dots bounced for a while then stopped. Then bounced again. Then stopped.
She put the phone down and continued to make breakfast but within moments picked it up again, intrigued. What was he taking so long to write?
How’s your day?
Did you know stress balls are not actually indestructible???
Um, yeah - I’m a primary school teacher. That’s basically day 1 of training.
Huh.
I sense there is a story behind this… sharing is caring you know?
THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE INDESTRUCTIBLE!
O….K…. Imagine me saying generic reassuring things and patting you on the shoulder.
My shoulder is covered in stress ball goop. But thank you, that weirdly helps.
🤭 oh dear… that stuff is a beast to wash out
Well there’s another Italian tailor I have to avoid for the rest of my life…
Not again!
I have glitter in my hair 😭
I’m sure it looks beautiful. I’ll ask one of your brothers to send me a photo.
I’m not getting out the shower until it’s gone.
You will literally starve to death.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
So today I had to confiscate an action figure which had Alan’s head, John’s torso and your limbs. Should I be concerned about these children?
That’s… horrifying. I’m never coming back to the UK. 😲
They all say hi by the way.
I’m too scared to say hi back to them now 😬
On the topic of the action figures…
Yes?
I have to know - what WAS wrong with Gordon’s novelty action figure of you? You never told me…
You don’t want to know.
Oh I really really do.
Oh go on, I’ll only be imagining worse.
The figure was making pancakes while wearing a frilly blue “Kiss The Chef” apron.
That doesn’t seem so bad?
Only the apron.
Oh my… 🤣
Speak of this to no-one.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Hey Estera, got any plans this evening?
Aside from vegging out with Bez and watching Celebrity Alligator Wrestling?
I mean I wouldn’t want to tear you away from that…
I could be persuaded… :)
Well, we happen to be in Europe right now (John had a thing) and Penny is visiting some Earl near Exeter and suggested we pop by and go out for a drink.
John’s not Earthside very often so she takes whatever chances she can get to catch up with him (they are old college friends, did I ever mention that?)
ANYWAY as it’s not far from you I wondered whether you might like to join us?
Oh wow thank you that’s very kind of you to think of me! It would be lovely to meet John and Lady Penelope if you’re sure I wouldn’t be intruding?
Of course not!
Virgil is with us too and says you have to come because he’s already bored with mine and John’s company.
Ok, I must now tell you that he did not in fact use those exact words.
Or to say that.
Apparently I am maddening.
Hi Estera, it’s Virgil. Please ignore what my idiot brother is saying. It would be lovely to see you if you’d like to come but please don’t feel any pressure.
Girjebvaxbnnnnn&&&&&&&
It’s Scott again, I’ve retrieved my comm. Sorry about my annoying TINY LITTLE BABY sibling who snatches things that aren’t his.
😂 I think I’m sold. I can get to Exeter in an hour? Where and when should I meet you?
John says the place is near the Cathedral - send a message when you get there and I’ll come and find you?
Fab! Ok I shall do that.
Ha!
What?
F-A-B is kind of a thing for us.
Oh! Oh I should have known that!
Reuben and Alex refuse to use any other affirmative words.
Why though?
Long story, tell you later maybe.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Estera rounded the corner of the cathedral and yelped as a strong gust nearly ripped her arm off in its determination to steal her umbrella. She wrestled it back and ducked into the shelter of the huge doorway only to conclude she should have let the wind take it as it was no longer any use to anyone other than as an art piece. “Mangled: A study in nylon and flimsy aluminium” perhaps. She tucked it under her arm and pulled out her phone:
Hi! I’m on The Green :) Don’t worry about coming out in all this, just let me know where you are and I’ll find you.
On my way!
Scott! It’s chucking it down! Just give me directions or somewhere to aim for.
I like the rain!
You’re a nutter.
A what?
… err British for ‘totally normal and rational’.
OK I will take your word for that and begin using ‘nutter’ regularly in a professional context.
Um… sure. I see no issues arising there.
😝 alright then
I think I see you!
She looked up and laughed as she spotted a lanky figure silhouetted against a streetlamp waving enthusiastically from across the green. She raised her arm in greeting, pulled her hood tighter around her face and then jogged towards him. She started out dodging the huge puddles with strictly limited success then gave up in favour of a direct route, swerving off course just the once to dump the useless brolly in a waste bin.
As soggy as she felt she was by the time their paths met, she wasn’t a patch on the drowned-but-grinning rat bouncing gently on his toes before her, hair plastered to his forehead and shirt clinging to him in a way she was relieved Barbara the receptionist couldn’t see.
Wait, shirt?
“Scott! I KNOW you own a coat.”
He waved a hand dismissively. “It always takes so long to dry the thing out. Cotton is fast.”
“Aren’t you freezing?”
“Nope!” He grinned and produced an umbrella with a flourish, pressing a button to automatically extend and open it and then raising it over her head in one smooth motion. The little squeak he emitted as he did so was anything but smooth however.
“Did I just hear an excited giggle from Mr Commander Tracy?”
“Also nope. Definitely not. Unrelatedly aren’t these just-press-the-button-and-SWOOSH-it’s-an-umbrella umbrellas just the best kind of umbrellas?”
Estera raised an eyebrow and wondered with amusement how many drinks he’d managed to put away already. “Certainly beats mine which I just ditched back there…” she looked at him smiling down at her from very much outside the umbrella’s zone of protection, water streaming down his face “although, given you have such a swanky brolly why did you not actually use it?”
“I told you, I like the rain.”
Estera raised an eyebrow. “Well, you’d do well living here then, we get a lot of it.” Shuddering slightly she shook water out of her sleeve. “Shall we get where we’re going before we grow gills?”
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
“He’s going to get absolutely soaked isn’t he?”
Virgil watched his elder brother stroll casually towards the doorway and then launch himself out into the rain like an excited puppy. He couldn’t help smiling fondly.
“You know what he’s like about rain, John. Anyway the wet shirt look isn’t going to do him any harm is it…?”
“VIRGIL! Honestly you’re impossible.” John’s facepalm was a masterpiece.
“Well, before he brings this young lady back, somebody had best update me on what, exactly, we believe her status is.”
“Virgil is convinced they are an item. Scott denies it.”
“I didn’t say that. I just think she’s good for him. He is happy. I like that. So I’m inclined to like her. And if we’re about to meet our future sister-in-law that’s fine by me.”
Penelope chuckled, Virgil the hopeless romantic was certainly living up to expectation. John was frowning slightly however and that intrigued her.
“What do you think, John darling?”
“I’m interested in what has him so… interested. They seem to spend a lot of time talking, yet all I can see they have in common is shared trauma and an unhealthy approach to adrenaline.”
“That is more than many people have when beginning a friendship, John. That doesn’t mean it is all there will ever be. Look at you and I, all we had in common was the inability to escape the weight of our surnames and yet we’ve had some superb times.”
John smiled and raised his lemonade in a silent toast.
“Well, I’m excited” Virgil commented. “Let’s not scare her by being too… you know.” he gestured vaguely.
“Excellent social etiquette tip, there, thank you Virgil.” his brother muttered.
Penelope smiled into her cocktail. This was going to be an interesting evening.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
“You ok?”
Estera had slowed almost imperceptibly as they approached the door to the boutique pub Penny had selected and Scott paused as they reached the shelter of the porch, his hand resting on the heavy oak door.
“Yes! Uh, a little nervous I guess? Last time I spoke to John I was… rather embarrassing.”
“Aww, no you weren’t. You were just worried about me and that’ll go in your favour I promise. It’s pretty much a family pastime from what I can make out…” he pulled an exaggerated grimace and got a little smile in response.
“I can imagine.” She appeared to be steeling herself.
“They don’t bite, I promise. But…” he touched her shoulder lightly and ducked down a little to look her in the eye “if you’d rather not… we could go somewhere else and I can catch up with them later?”
“Oh goodness no. I’m looking forward to it. Honestly, I am! Let’s go inside, it’s freezing out here.”
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
“Hey look, John, Estera found a drowned puppy!”
“Goodness, doesn’t it look tragic?”
Penelope leaned backwards away from Scott as he responded to his brothers’ banter by shaking himself like a dog and showering the table with droplets from his hair before wringing his sleeve out down the back of Virgil’s collar who himself yelped like Sherbet in a snowdrift.
“Right for that you’re buying the next round big brother.”
“And this is novel, how?”
His friend hung back a little, watching the interaction with a mixture of amusement and mild confusion. Penelope gestured to Estera to take a seat beside her and cut across the brotherly jibing:
“Might it be an appropriate moment to introduce us Scott?”
The supposedly eldest and most mature of the pack looked up from where he’d flung his arms around John’s neck in what was clearly a weaponised soggy hug and smiled impishly before moving over and crouching down next to Estera’s chair.
“Estera, this is Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward - she is as lovely as she is fabulous and I’m sure you’ll get along.”
“Oh, I don’t doubt that for a moment. And please call me Penny!”
Estera smiled and offered a hand which Penny grasped with both of hers and gave her a conspiratorial wink.
Scott cleared his throat importantly “Next, I am delighted to present for your approval Annoying-Little-Brother-One who also goes by don’t-call-me-Johnny”
“Ha. Ha. Scooter. It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, Estera, although why you are wasting your time in the company of this absolute fool I cannot fathom.”
“And last but very much not least, either in importance or sheer bulk, here is Annoying-Little-Brother-Two who we refer to as short-stuff, the-tank, care-bear or, occasionally, Virgil”
Virgil leaned across the table to shake her hand. “You do realise what an insufferable creature our eldest brother is don’t you?”
“Oh yes, spotted that one straight away.”
Scott clutched his chest and gasped “I am hurt! A plague o’ both houses! I am sped!” before collapsing on to his back with melodramatic flailing and a range of choking noises before lying still with his tongue lolling and eyes rolled back.
Penelope giggled delicately while Estera tutted and rolled her eyes.
“You still have a couple of paragraphs of monologue before you’re allowed to expire, Mercutio. C+ must try harder.”
Scott pouted while John held up his hand for a high five.
Penelope caught Virgil’s eye and he grinned.
“Death doesn’t get you out of your round big bro. Get your soggy butt off the floor and over to the bar while we fill Estera in on some key anecdotes.”
Scott’s expression of dread wasn’t melodrama at all.

after dark pt. 2: rooftop (hawks x reader)

You nearly cried when you saw half a million yen in your bank account Saturday morning. You spent a few extra minutes in bed, grinning at the ceiling and thanking the kami for Hawks. You couldn’t help but think of the smile in his voice and the playful spark in his eye. I should thank him again, you thought. You reached for your phone just as a text came through.
Hawks: morning! the transfer should have gone through by now, lemme know if you got it
You: Yes, I got it. Thank you again, the amount is extremely generous for three weeks. I hope my work lives up to it
Hawks: i’m sure you’ll be worth it :) so for monday, i was thinking we should meet up near the psc hq with enough time for you to give me a quick crash course on taking photos for evidence. I’ve got an ear piece for you too, so we can be in constant contact while we’re spread out
You: Yeah we can do that. Do you have a DSLR?
Hawks: lol what is that
You: Are you serious
Hawks: nah haha its the 21st century, i know what a digital camera is :D i don’t have one though
You: omg good grief Hawks
You: Most cell phones can take pretty good pics these days, so I’m sure yours will be fine. Or I can teach you how to work the SLR and I’ll use my phone since I know what I’m doing
Hawks: ooo I kNoW wHaT i’M dOinG
You: Wow, the attitude. I could always just take your money and run
Hawks: could you tho? i bet i could track you down
You: I could go off the grid and you’d never find me
Hawks: eh, you’d get bored and lonely. plus i have my ways
You: Maybe bored, but I doubt I’d get lonely. Snowy owls are solitary
Hawks: not always ;)
You couldn’t help but blush. His cheeky banter made you wonder how he could be so comfortable with someone he just met. You crafted, then deleted, then rewrote, then deleted your reply again, trying to find the line between professional and playful. He was right, after all, and spring was on its way.
You: I should have known you were going to be a handful, Hero.
Hawks: ;) ;) ;)
You rolled your eyes and blushed again. Goofball, you thought. You just might reciprocate the flirting, once your work was done.
You: Text me when you have something important to talk about, Bird Brain
Hawks: aw c’mon, i’m just teasing ya
Hawks: how does 3:30p monday at the family mart a block east of the psc sound? we can grab some snacks, hang out on the rooftop and take some practice shots
You: No offense, but you kind of attract attention, so going anywhere in public in the light of day with you is going to be a no for me. Nighttime shooting is more involved than shooting in full daylight, that’s when I think we’ll need to practice. How about tomorrow after sundown?
Hawks: you just can’t wait to see me, huh?
Hawks: but yeah, I can make that work. same place, 8p tomorrow. and i’ll grab snacks beforehand, all by my lonesome :’( what kinda stuff you like?
You: Sounds good to me. Nothing spicy. Other than that I’m really not picky. Something salty and something sweet I guess
Hawks: no spice? bummer
Hawks: i’ll hook you up tho. see you then!
You felt childish sitting on the roof with your feet overhanging the side of the stories-high building downtown Fukuoka. The busy street below bustled with life, but no crimson feathers to speak of yet. Your stomach was convinced you were on a roller coaster, slowing ticking up and up and up towards the crest of a great drop. No professional dealings had ever gotten you in knots like this.
What if I’m a bad teacher? What if he’s a total moron and doesn’t understand anything I say? What if I trip over my words? What if I forget something super important and his photos turn out horrible? What if he forgets to take off the lens cap?
Your anxiety and the bracing breeze sent a chill through you. You pulled your thumb sleeves tighter over your knuckles. Cold weather was your comfort zone, but something in the air felt… Different.
You pulled your camera bag onto your lap and fiddled with the settings. The night cityscape from the top of the building made for a nice shot, and it might ease your nerves to practice what you wanted to say in your mind before Hawks arrived. You stood, knelt, leaned, trying to get the composition just right when you sensed a presence behind you.
“Ayo! Getting started without me?”
“Geez, tell the entire neighborhood we’re up here!” you griped, turning off your camera.
Hawks laughed, took off his flight goggles and slid his headphones off to hang around his neck. “Not like we’re doing anything nefarious up here anyway! How ya been?” he asked, sitting down to lean against the half wall ledge next to you, konbini bag in tow.
“Fine, just getting a couple shots of the skyline,” you said before stowing your camera. “How are you?”
“Oh, you know. Same old stuff, chasing cliche thieves and villains. Come check out what I got for ya. Whatever you don’t like I’ll be happy to eat. Cool jacket by the way. Custom made?”
“Oh, this?” you gestured. “I modified it myself actually. All I did was take some cheap track jacket, cut a hole in the back and surged the edges. Well, and I dyed it black.”
“Let me see the back,” he asked, gesturing for you to turn around. You turned shyly, spreading your wings out to compliment the work you’d done. Hawks smirked, impressed. “Very nice. You sew then?”
You tucked your wings back in and sat next to Hawks. “I like to make or modify stuff for my wings at least. Tailors are expensive, plus sometimes I get the itch to do creative stuff.”
“That’s really cool. I may have to commission you for some of my ideas!” he said, pulling out a veritable buffet of konbini goodies. You chuckled.
“Geez, are we expecting guests?” You grabbed a pack of umaibo, one of your favorite crunchy snacks.
“Nah, I’m just a growing boy! Hero work burns a lot of calories, and I haven’t had a break since lunch!” he said as he tore into a famous Famichiki. He offered a second to you. “Saw these right next to the register and couldn’t pass ‘em up. Something about konbini fried chicken warms the soul, ya know?”
You took it, smiling. “These remind me of middle school.”
“Yeah?” he asked. “How so?”
“There was a Family Mart between school and home, I used to grab them all the time,” you said. “Glad you don’t mind being a cannibal.”
He laughed. “Right? People call me that all the time! We can’t help that we’re birds of prey!” His laughter warmed you. Or was it the hot food?
“I always wonder what school was like,” Hawks continued. “I was home schooled. Well, sort of. I never went to regular school at least.”
“You didn’t go to UA?” you asked. “I thought that was pretty much a requirement for pro heroes.”
He shook his head. “Nope, not for me at least. I might have liked to go there, but…” He looked into the distance. “Growing up wasn’t the best for me.”
You tilted your head and looked at him. “I’m sorry to hear that.”
He shrugged and sighed. “Eh, s’just how it is. Things are good now. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about stuff like where meals are gonna come from anymore, you know?”
You frowned. “Damn, it was that bad? I hate that.”
He polished off his chicken and stole some umaibo from your open bag. “Yeah, it was shitty but it didn’t last forever. But enough about me anyway. What’s your family like?”
“Mom was pretty quiet and Dad was super busy, so pretty typical family, I guess. Although I do have a twin brother.”
“Ooh, that’s cool. Where do they all live?”
“Up in Hokkaido,” you said, stealing back your umaibo.
“Damn, that’s far. Anywhere near Sapporo?”
“Mom’s near Date where I grew up, a couple hours southeast of Sapporo. Don’t really know where my dad is these days, and my brother’s way out in the middle of nowhere. He hates the city even more than me.”
“You hate the city?” he asked, leaning towards you.
You nodded. “Too much going on. The noise, the lights, the swarms of people… It’s a lot. My hometown was pretty quiet but there was no opportunity for work there. Sapporo would have been alright probably but… I just wanted a big change I guess, so I picked Fukuoka. So here I am, just trying to cope with my quirk.”
You surprised yourself with how much you said, chalking it up to Hawks’ comforting presence and being a good listener.
“Crazy that you moved across the whole country. Does your brother have a similar quirk?”
“Yep, almost exactly the same. His wings are pretty much pure white, almost no speckles like I have.”
“Ah, interesting,” he said. “You guys close?”
You gave a cynical chuckle. “Definitely not. I’m not really close with anyone.”
He tilted his head. “Not with anyone? Really?”
You shrugged, trying to avoid his eyes.
“No best friend?” he asked.
“When I was in school. But not anymore.”
“No boyfriend?” he asked incredulously.
You laughed darkly. “No, definitely not.”
Hawks furrowed his brow but smiled playfully. “You mean you’re not a total ball-busting heart-breaker?”
You snorted. “Hell no. Try chronically single.”
He chuckled. “I may be high on the public approval charts, but I’m afraid I suffer that fate too.” He tossed you some Winter Melty Pocky. “My excuse is that I’m always too busy, but I wouldn’t mind making time for someone special. Maybe someday when things settle down and villains don’t run the streets some angel will sweep me off my wings.” He had a wistful look in his eyes as he tore through another snack.
“Yeah, I guess I wouldn’t mind that either,” you said.
Your mind drifted back to your middle school days as you opened the Pocky. Your first kiss had been stolen by a rambunctious boy in your class who was dared to play the Pocky game. The popular girls turned him down, but you, not knowing the true intention of the game, waited patiently with the biscuit in your mouth. As his lips crashed against yours, you were confused, not lovestruck as you wanted your first kiss to be. The only kiss since then was a brief make out session at the only college party you ever attended. He tasted of cheap beer and tobacco, a combination that still makes your stomach turn. You never spoke again once winter break arrived, but at least the occasion was consensual.
As you munched on the bitter chocolate, you wondered what Hawks might taste like. You caught yourself and squeezed your eyes shut. Am I insane? I just met this guy two days ago!
“So, the other day you said you don’t trust heroes. Any particular reason why?” Hawks asked.
Your face grew tense. “A few. The hero market is pretty over-saturated these days.”
He shrugged. “Yeah, that might be true. But how does that affect your trust in them?”
You crossed your arms. “I’m not convinced there’s enough crime to go around. I think a lot of them probably take care of a couple high-publicity jobs and go home after an hour’s work.”
Hawks eyed you. “Have you looked at crime statistics recently?”
“Not since college.”
“You might be surprised at them. I’m not trying to say you’re wrong, but crime rates have changed a lot with quirks getting more common.”
“Yeah, and while quirks are a fine explanation for the crime increase and the overabundance of heroes, I’d rather it be police stopping crime. Doing it for the notoriety defeats a lot of the purpose in my eyes.”
“What’s the difference though?” Hawks asked, turning towards you. “Isn’t it good that crime gets stopped, period?”
You shook your head. “Doing something good just because you know people are watching? Seems a little hollow. To me, it’s more about integrity. Heroes should work behind the scenes more and focus on doing the right things when no one is looking.”
He nodded. “I completely agree. So how do you know they aren’t already doing that if all you see are their TV appearances?”
You opened your mouth to reply, but once you met Hawks’ golden eyes, your words died in your throat. Damn, you thought. He’s exactly right. He seemed to know it too, but he didn’t boast. He only continued to search your eyes, his lips upturned in a soft smile.
“So, what do I need to know for your camera?” Hawks asked as he opened a bag of spicy chips.
“First thing, you had better not get any of that spicy dust on it, or I’ll toss you off the roof,” you quipped. You might not mind a touch of spice, if it came from his lips.
“Your threat would be scarier if I couldn’t fly,” he said, attempting to steal one of your Pocky sticks. You swatted the back of his hand playfully.
“Uh-uh, if you wanted some Pocky you should have gotten two, bird brain,” you said, pulling out a stick and waving it to tempt him. “These are my favorite.”
Hawks pouted. “Aw, but spicy chocolate is so good!”
You briefly thought of putting the biscuit between your teeth to tease him with it, just like the old Pocky game, but you could never work up the nerve to be so bold. Instead, you held the stick in front of his mouth and rolled your eyes.
“Geez, if you’re gonna whine about it.”
“You sure?” he asked, holding your eye contact. You rested the Pocky against his lips. He smiled and gently bit the biscuit in half, then chased it with a spicy chip, then ate the other half of the Pocky. He hummed in delight as he licked the flavored dust off his fingers. You scrunched up your nose.
“That is so gross,” you said, laughing.
“Mm, the chocolate on those is even better than the regular ones! Definitely a good combo. You sure you don’t wanna give it a try?”
“Absolutely not, especially after you just licked your fingers!”
He gave a menacing smile and extracted a chip from the bag, loaded with spicy dust. “Come on now, just one won’t kill you.”
“Ugh, no way!” You pushed his arm away, giggling. He easily overpowered you and brought the chip dangerously close to your face. “That smells like fire, oh my gosh Hawks!”
You playfully shoved at each other, laughing as you tried to get the diabolical chip as far away as possible. Hawks feigned weakness and you grabbed his wrist, aiming the chip back towards his mouth. He chomped it, then lunged for you Pocky, snatching it out of your hand.
“You cheater!” you squealed, grabbing his other wrist and struggling with him for control.
“Ah! Damn girl, you’ve got some sharp claws!”
You looked at your hands, noticing your naturally black nails digging into his skin. You released him, suddenly guilty over the half moon marks left in his flesh.
“Oh, geez, sorry!” you yelped. Hawks just smiled and took out a piece of Pocky.
“No worries, I’m tough. I can handle a battle scar or two,” he said, holding the Pocky to your lips. “See, didn’t even break the skin.”
You took the Pocky with your teeth and turned away, cheeks warm. “Maybe I should have for stealing my treat.”
“Didn’t your parents ever teach you to share?” he asked with a gentle elbow to your side.
“They taught me to fend for myself! Now are we gonna goof off all night or we gonna get down to business? We do have work to do tomorrow.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. I just like making you laugh.” His smile made his eyes wrinkle. Your heart stuttered and you couldn’t help but smile too. He’s so pretty…
“Oh, but speaking of work, here’s the ear piece.” He pulled a device from his pocket and handed it to you. “Connect it to your phone and tomorrow while we’re on surveillance, we can talk to each other.”
You examined the compact device. “And what if I get sick of hearing you?”
He grinned and shrugged. “You can always turn down the volume and see how long it takes me to notice you aren’t listening.”
You laughed. “Alright, sounds good. Now, let’s get started with some camera stuff. Do you know what aperture is?”
Hawks pretended to rack his brain. “Hm, that company from the Portal games?”
“We’re gonna be here all night, aren’t we?”
He shrugged. “Only if you want to.”

Find the Words...
... (and the theme)!
Tumblr media
Dangerous game you're playing @mrsmungus, tagging me in this. I can hear the train whistles in the distance, and feel the vibration in the tracks... Gotta get my ticket ready, I suppose.
The rules are simple - find a sentence, or excerpt, that includes the words you're given and paste it in, and include a link to the finished story of you want. But honestly, guidelines at best - do what you want.
My words to find: honey, calm, trust, shimmer, darkness, fall, crime, portable, stain, crisp.
(It's not a slam, but I heard honey crisp apples shimmering in the darkness of a calm fall night, and I'm stubbornly sticking with the Autumn theme.)
No Pressure Tags: @imagine-you @cxttlefishcxller @asirensrage @athenswrites (don't feel the need to join in if you don't want, but saw your writblr post, and figured I'd send you one) And of course, sending this right back at you, @mrsmungus. Tag, you're it.
As always - OPEN TAG - if you'd like to join in!
Your words are: White, Cold, Snow, Frost, Ice, Gloves, Hat, Cocoa (or Tea), Blanket, Snuggle/cuddle (or any variation of this)
Excerpts below the cut...
Tumblr media
I only have a small amount written ahead for my original story WIP 'Close to the Vale', so most of this will probably still be from the 'Wonderland' fanfiction series ('Something Like a Spiral' and 'Just Keep Diving Down'. I'll give Close first priority though.
Honey: (I was worried about this, but apparently my 'Diving' OC Lauffey has a proclivity for using this word. That said, I also found it in a section that allows me to post 'Fuck off, Flagg' and I can't resist.)
While outwardly charming, maliciousness shown through in the minute details on his face. She should have known this was going to be a big game to him. Cat and mouse, it was his favorite. Fortunately, it seemed like the typical roles were reversed at the moment. "Fuck off, Flagg." "Always so rude. You catch more bees with honey, you know…" If she could have kept all her other memories and just erased him, took away everything about this nightmare of a man, well it would have been a tempting offer. The bubbling anger building up inside her was now a known response to interactions with him. Fear was somewhere close behind, though she wasn’t looking to give him that satisfaction anymore.
Calm: (Two chapters down in 'Close' - Not used in connection with who I thought it would be though...)
"You know him?" The reply was calm and level headed. The same could not be said of the more visible distressed man to his right. "Please. If– If you know anything that could, I mean, anything that help us find—" The picture of another younger man was thrust at her. Same raven hair, same chocolate eyes. Slight differences, but clear relation. Brother most like. He had a striking smile, and she would have been charmed if not for the small tattoo on the inside of his left wrist. Plain as day, just as Paul had said. She may not know this particular man, but she knew where he’d be.
Trust: (found in a short section I wrote for farther ahead in 'Close'. This could potentially change a fair deal. First drafts and all.)
“And you were just going to politely ask me to leave everything. My life? My home?! We were only there to look for you, you know.” “Yeah, I know. Trust me, I fucking know.”
Shimmer: (wow... it's a Flagg day I suppose - pulled this from 'Spiral')
He moved close enough that only inches remained between them, and a chill emanated from his presence. Conflicting to the nature of their conversation, he gently brushed a stray lock of her hair back behind her ear. "I don't need to be your enemy." Despite the chill, his breath was hot against her face, and she braced herself for any attack that followed. But it never came. In a shimmer of smoke, he was gone. Nothing. Emptiness. She let out the breath she didn't realize she was holding. "But I have no problem filling the role if that's how you want to play the game."
Darkness: (Might as well let him run with it... Another Flagg burst from 'Diving')
She didn't know where it came from, certainly didn't call for it, but sympathy for the man in front of her shook her resolve momentarily. For somebody with a positive nature, lighter memories are going to pull first. Bright memories to shine through. And there was most likely a larger abundance of them. It's what makes them who they are. Flagg was an embodiment of darkness. What must have happened to turn somebody into this? How does one make a monster such as him? What memories haunted him most? This paired with Rayna’s lack of delicacy. Ruthlessness. "I'm sorry."
Fall: (Not the fall I was imagining, but its all 'Close' has so far.)
Once outside the stuffy office, she found herself easily falling in step next to him. Silence dominated the first few feet. To say she didn’t know where to begin was an understatement. When she came here, she hoped to be leaving with these papers, but not under these circumstances. Not through this exact chain of events. That said, she certainly wasn’t complaining about the change in course. Damsel in distress was not her M.O., but if it led her here, it couldn’t be all bad.
Crime: (Not going to lie - very first draft and not even a completed chapter of 'Close' - has the potential to change a LOT. But I did say I was giving this first crack.)
Why wasn't the general public angry? The security cameras picked up a tattoo on the man leaving the building at the estimated time of the crime. A tattoo known to be a mark of the downtown gangbanger shitheads that were a thorn in many sides. A menace in their own backyard. Shouldn't they want a resolution? A safer community?
Portable: (From 'Spiral' again. Flagg is really showing up today...)
Food, drink, frivolity. Everything was planned out thoroughly. The pavilion was decked out with small lights. A portable generator Glen had found was fired up.  But her mind was on her task: Ad Hoc Committee welcome and rundown on the darker agenda. Find out what Larry knew about Flagg, and fill in what blanks she could.
Stain: (Yup, just letting him take it over I suppose... From later in 'Diving' Also snagged a bonus 'shimmer'.)
“It's over now. Do you think anybody here cares about…" her hands waved quickly about him, highlighting his new appearance. "Nobody cares here. Not about that. But that?" Another movement to indicate at her wounds. To the new red stains on her clothing. "That behavior we do care about, and will not be tolerating, do you understand? This is a place of acceptance. All kinds. And we do not fight our own here." A shimmer of bright red flashed over his eyes before it fell to the duller shade. The rigidity in his stance faded away. All outward appearances were reverting back to the carefree persona he usually adopted, as if he were unaffected by the actions surrounding him. Actions from those he surely considered beneath him. But he had shown his cards. He cared. And he hurt.
Crisp: (Well now it just feels weird not having Flagg. Pulled from the last section of 'Diving'.)
Her duster was hanging on the coat rack, and she grabbed it before heading back out. So much for taking a breather from it all, not that she had breath to take. The show must go on; best get back to it before somebody started ad-libbing something she wouldn’t be prepared to say yes to. The night air was crisp on her skin, and she welcomed the cold for a moment. Feeling it on her face was a welcome change from the mornings. Layers upon layers to protect from the hazards of being her. Daytime hours were meant to be her reprieve; she wasn’t built for this nonstop push, but there was little option. Protection was what mattered now. Moving people away, stopping the internal fighting, trying to find what weakness that could be exploited. The thoughts swirled in her head as she walked the dirt path towards the outskirts, but they didn’t have long to sink in. Rumination ended with an explosion, and a burst of light.

Revolution is going to be emotional
Or: me reflecting on wrestling and Sting, under the cut
Revolution marks the anniversary of the first time I sat down to watch AEW, I got invited by a friend who was into wrestling to come hang out for the PPV weekend and watch it as a social thing and figured why not? We spent the day before doing a crash course for me (and the one other non-wrestling fan in the room) so we'd know who we were going to see at the PPV and what storylines were going on so we could follow and pick who we wanted to root for. One single clip with Danhausen in the background tipped me from intrigued to actively invested, I stayed up all night catching up on things and when the PPV started I was so excited to watch even if I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I got into wrestling in a big way immediately, I haven't missed a show since then and I've met so many incredible people through wrestling especially here on tumblr, including the love of my life. (Wish I could time travel and try to explain to my past self that thanks to a wrestling demon with a thing for teeth and his hoodie wearing, chip chomping tag partner I met the most incredible person, wrestling is such a wild thing to explain without context) I guess people are right when they say wrestling really does bring people together, it definitely changed my life for the better
Before that point, the most I'd done was keep loose tabs on Rhea Ripley after seeing clips of a match of hers late 2018, but I hadn't thought wrestling was "my thing" so I never tried engaging with it more. I didn't grow up with it, I wasn't allowed to watch it when I was younger, the most I can remember interacting with wrestling as a child is getting to play with a friend's action figures when we were maybe 9. I couldn't for the life of you tell you who most of them were supposed to be, there's only one that stuck out in my memory enough for me to know who it was: Sting. I didn't know who he was, but I had a cool goth uncle so I wanted to play with that one because it looked like the guy in that movie my uncle liked. I remember my friend excitedly telling me "HE'S THE BEST ONE" and showing me how to pretend swoop down from the rafters of an imaginary venue so I could properly play Sting.
I can remember watching AEW when I was a new fan and didn't know anyone and going "I know him!" Sting's reach extended beyond wrestling fans, and although I didn't know much about his career I knew he was a big deal. I watched his run in AEW, I got recommended matches of his throughout his career to check out, and I could see why they called him the icon. When I spoke to people who watched wrestling when they were younger but didn't keep up with it, they'd ask if there was anyone they'd know and I'd always immediately say Sting, usually getting a response along the lines of "wow, he's still going? I used to love him"
(I also managed to meet some people at an event for All In 2023 and discussed with them my ranking of Sting eras by most attractive, because I am not immune to an attractive person in face paint. Then maybe 15 minutes later as we were waiting for the elevator to leave the hotel, who should come up also wanting to leave but the man himself. I have never gone so silent in my LIFE I swear, made panicked eye contact with our little group, and as soon as he'd gone on his way I got asked if I was okay, as if I hadn't just felt my life flash before my eyes)
Like a lot of people, I haven't known the world of professional wrestling without Sting in it, and it's going to be strange for him to not be there anymore. So many wrestlers are posting tributes, he paved the way for the current era of professional wrestling in America and he has inspired so many people. Seeing the outpouring of love and sharing of memories it seems like everyone is united in celebrating not only his career, but the man behind it as well. Although it's bittersweet knowing tonight will be his last match, I'm grateful I got into wrestling in time to see him wrestle live in person and see him go out on his own terms, happy and healthy. Knowing he got to decide how he wanted this to go, who he wanted to wrestle with and against, it doesn't matter to me what my personal feelings might be on if I would've picked this for his last match because it's what he wanted, and Sting always delivers an entertaining match.
I hope we all have fun, but most importantly I hope Sting has fun in his last match before retirement. He's earned it.

Clean Again
Chapter 11: RULED BY MARS read on AO3 | previous chapter | tumblr chapter index make sure to check AO3 for this fic's playlist and other extras! Corey can't put off meeting Veronica any longer. general warnings for this fic - angst, fluff, eventual smut (MDNI), canon-typical violence, canon-typical gore contents/warnings for this chapter - angst, semi-coerced drug use, detailed description of getting way too stoned 4,618 words @rebel-blue @heartrot666 @wolvesandvampires @cordelium @toxicanonymity @multifandom--mess @hersweetrevenge @futurewife @yllcm @ethanhoewke dm me or reply to this post to be added to the tag list 💕
The knife Corey gave you makes your purse heavier than usual as you trek across a massive, muddy field with Veronica and Rose. The three of you tried to get to the flea market early but you weren’t early enough to find parking in the paved lot.
“I can’t believe you love him and I haven’t met him yet!” Veronica says
“I know, I know! I want you to meet him, I want everyone to meet him. But he’s shy.” A severe understatement of whatever is going on with your sweet, strange boyfriend.
“Have you ever gone anywhere with him?” Veronica asks as you arrive at the gates.
The sound of the vendors’ radios playing music over tinny speakers - Contemporary Christian, Grunge, Trap, Mariachi - floats to you from beyond the chain link fence. A gentle gust of wind brings you the smells of barbecue and fried food.
“The grocery store?” you supply. “The library?”
“Okay, those absolutely do not count.”
“Then I guess I haven’t. People make him nervous.”
The three of you enter the market. It’s laid out like a maze, but you have it memorized from years of traversing the cramped and crowded aisles. Your feet carry you instinctively towards the tables and stalls you know have the most interesting items and the best prices. Your friends keep step beside you.
“So if you never go anywhere, what do you do all the time?” Rose asks.
“That’s what I wanna know!” Veronica adds.
“We hang out, I dunno. We watch movies, we play video games, I’ve been teaching him some stuff in the kitchen when I cook for us…” You trail off, realizing that nothing you could say about your time with Corey would make it sound interesting to someone who isn’t there, who hasn’t experienced him like you get to. “You know, it’s not about what we do. It’s about spending time together.”
“The dick must be out of this world,” Veronica responds.
“Oh my god,” you say.
“V!” Rose chides at the same time.
“ For your information the dick is stellar ,” you hiss. “But so is his personality,” you continue, returning to your normal volume. “I genuinely just like to hang out with him, no matter what we’re doing.”
You peruse a few stalls without saying anything to each other except Wow! Look at this! and Oof, prices just aren’t what they used to be . But Veronica isn’t giving up that easily.
“For real though, don’t you ever get bored?” She demands, rummaging through a bin of vintage happy meal toys.
“Nope,” you dismiss her.
“But don’t you want to spend time with him like, at places? And events?” Rose asks.
“Of course I do! But my relationships have had some boundary problems in the past, if you hadn’t noticed. I’m trying to respect his limits.”
“All I know is if I hadn’t seen him that one time, my belief in him would be limited,” Veronica jokes. “Like that boyfriend who ‘went to another school’ in seventh grade.”
“Fuck you!” You say, cringing but laughing, remembering the boy you made up out of pieces of pro skaters and bass players to feel cool. “I promise you’ll get to meet him ASAP if you never bring that up again.”
“Deal!” Veronica says, setting a tiny Betty Spaghetty back into the box in front of her and sticking out her hand. You clasp it in your own and shake it vigorously.
When you get home Corey is sprawled out asleep on the couch in his boxers, the crocheted blanket you keep in the living room hanging off of him. Last night when he woke you up he seemed exhausted. Though he ravished you with kisses, you could feel his limbs getting heavy on him and you gently coaxed him to slow down and go to sleep. This morning when you woke you slipped from his arms and got ready, thinking the thing with the knife must’ve been a particularly vivid dream, or the confused invention of a mind still half asleep. Until you went to kiss Corey goodbye and saw it there on the nightstand, folded up, handle glittering under the lamp that never got turned off. Your lips on his skin roused him and he insisted on getting out of bed and walking you to the door. You told him he should stay comfortable, go back to sleep, but he refused. As he kissed you goodbye, he put the knife in your purse to make sure you had it. Then, it seems, he passed back out on the couch.
You know he needs the rest, and you're not exactly eager to hold up your end of the deal with Veronica, so you do your best not to disturb him, every sound feeling impossibly loud in your small apartment. He finally wakes up in the early afternoon. You’re in the dining room doing some hand sewing tasks with headphones on when he shuffles in. You don’t realize he’s there until he’s behind you, plucking the buds from your ears. You jump up from your chair and spin around in surprise.
“Jesus, Corey!” You scold. “That’s the kind of shit that’ll make me use that knife on you! Or a fucking seam ripper.” You brandish the tool in your hand at him, then set it on the table. Corey smirks.
“How was the market?” He opens his arms to receive you for a hug.
“Pretty good. I’ve got some cool stuff to show you later. Veronica was kinda on one though.”
“About what?” he asks the top of your head.
“About meeting you.” You say it like an admission of guilt. And you do feel guilty, because you already know what his reaction will be, before he groans and deflates in your arms, before he pulls back to look at you with a pained expression, before he asks his question.
“What does she wanna meet me so bad for? I’m nothin’ special.”
“Corey. You are something special. I wanna show you off! And she’s my best friend. It’s honestly kinda weird that she hasn’t met you yet. I want to hang out with my two favorite people, together .”
He groans your name. You put your hands on his cheeks and rub his temples with your thumbs, trying to encourage him to relax his sour face. It doesn't work.
"Look, I know of a couple of restaurants that are super quiet during the week, we can grab dinner somewhere where we'll be the only people, and it'll be so chill."
“Why can’t she meet me here?” He asks like a petulant child.
“If you really want me to, I'll convince her and we can all have a nice night in. But she thinks it’s weird that we never go anywhere, and it’ll make a better first impression on her if we hang out somewhere else.”
Corey looks into your eyes for a moment, seeming to search for something. It’s not clear if he finds what he’s looking for or gives up, but his lids flutter closed and he sighs.
“Somewhere really quiet?”
“Yes, I already know exactly where. There’s a pub that we all like that’s always totally dead on weekdays. It’s super cozy and the food is really good.”
He rests his forehead on yours in defeat. “Okay.”
In the evening you text Veronica.
Tumblr media
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s Wednesday. Corey goes home to his own apartment after work. He showers in his little phone booth shower, the tiny bathroom filling with dense steam. He shaves his face, careful not to fuck it up with trembling hands. Towel wrapped around his hips, he digs through his clothes, unsure of what to wear. He has to force himself to complete one step of the getting ready process at a time, stuffing his phone in his pillow case to quell the urge to text you and ask to change the plan. Dread boils in his stomach. He lights a cigarette, and then another one, drinking them more than smoking them in his desperation. When he’s feeling as ready as he thinks he ever will, he climbs on his motorcycle and speeds to your apartment, rolling through stop signs and accelerating at yellow lights, trying to compress the ride as much as possible. His tires cut a deep groove in the gravel of your driveway as he screeches to a halt in his usual spot.
“Bathroom!” He hears you call as he lets himself into your apartment and takes off his shoes.
He walks into the bathroom and sees you sitting on the counter. Your hair is wet and held back with a headband. You’re dressed in nothing but the largest t-shirt Corey has ever seen. You look away from the mirror where you’re doing your makeup and give him The Smile, but it barely dents his anxiety. He gives you a quick peck on the lips and when he pulls away he walks to the other end of the bathroom, stalking back and forth like a predator in a too-small cage.
“You’re awfully early,” you say, digging in your makeup bag.
“I just wanted to spend some time with you alone.”
“Aww, Corey. It's gonna go great,” you assure his reflection as you do your eyeliner. “You don’t need to be nervous. Veronica is gonna love you. I don’t know how anyone could meet you and not love you.”
“You’re biased,” he replies miserably.
The pacing is just making him more anxious, so he leans against the wall next to you while you finish your makeup and blow dry your hair.
He follows you when you go into your bedroom. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he looks at the floor while you get dressed. Despite having sex, showering together, and sleeping tangled in each other’s limbs with every inch of your bare skin sticking to his, he still feels like there’s moments when he’s not supposed to look. You don’t seem to think anything of it, but it just feels respectful to avert his eyes while you shimmy into your underwear. He hears a zipper going up and your bare feet enter his line of sight. Your toenails are painted the color of dried blood.
You squeeze his chin with your thumb and pointer finger, encouraging him to look up at you. Corey's only ever seen you dressed up to go out from a distance, or at the end of the night when your makeup has been reduced to a smattering of colorless glitter and you've long ago pulled your sweat-damp hair into a bun. He's a wretched bundle of nerves – he's not sure he's been this anxious since the first day of his manslaughter trial – but even so, he’s taken by seeing you like this, fresh and up close, for the first time. He doesn’t know fashion words but he can tell you’re doing something, and doing it well. For one flickering second he’s glad this is happening, feeling stupid for not joining you out before now. He wants so badly to see you in your element, looking like a model and doing the violent dance you described the first time he noticed bruises on you that he hadn’t left with his mouth.
As you lean in to kiss him, soft and warm and tacky with tinted balm, Corey wishes he had the power to stop time. To freeze this moment, avoid all the hazards of being asked unanswerable questions or the waitress being so sure she’s seen him somewhere before, to remain safely trapped in your sticky kiss for all eternity like a bug fossilized in amber. No such luck. You pull away and bring your thumb up from his chin to wipe the transferred makeup off his bottom lip.
“I love you,” Corey says, fearing in his gut it’s the last time he’ll ever get to say it.
“I love you, too,” you reply, and it’s even scarier that it might be the last time you ever say it back.
When you pull up to the pub Corey recognizes it. He’s been here, watching you, parked in the shadows down the street. He’s seen you laugh and toss your hair, silhouetted in the window under the neon Krelborn’s sign, pregaming for a big night, and watched you struggle to sit up straight when you came back hours later to satiate your munchies.
You parallel park behind an idling Volkswagen Jetta. He waits for you to turn the car off, but you don’t. Instead, the Jetta goes dark and silent. The driver steps out of their car and opens the rear door of yours.
“Good evening, y’all!” Veronica lilts as she slides into the backseat.
“Hello, hello!” You sing back, twisting in your seat to face her. “Veronica Hand, this is Corey Carpenter. Corey, Veronica.”
Veronica leans forward between the seats and offers her hand to him. “So nice to finally meet you!”
“It’s nice to meet you, too,” he says, shaking her outstretched hand. Corey tries to smile a nice, normal smile. He’s acutely aware of his body language, feeling Veronica’s eyes, knowing she’s assessing him already.
On the drive here he’d asked you if she was interested in true crime. You shrugged and said just the normal amount, as if there was one. When you wanted to know why he asked, he reminded you of what you said the first night he came over. It’s just my friend checking in. She’s nervous about you coming over, 'cause you could be a serial killer or something. You assured him it was a bad joke, and that texting to check in standard even if your date’s vibes are in no way serial killer-y. You quoted one of the films from the teen drama-comedy night you arranged last week, though he couldn’t remember which one. That’s just like, the rules of feminism! You said.
Somehow the conversation failed to make him feel any better, any less like he would be under a microscope every second he was in Veronica’s sight.
“I know you’re nervous so I brought a little something to make the night more fun for everyone,” she’s saying, pulling a small, flat, silver box out of her purse. She pops it open and removes a single hand-rolled cigarette. It’s made with such skill it takes Corey a second to realize it’s a joint, it’s so different from the ones he refused in high school.
He looks to you and you return his gaze.
“Do you want to?” You ask.
He scans your face, conflicted. He had a lot of fun smoking with you, but that was in the safety of your apartment. No strangers. And no chance of being seen by the cops.
“We won’t get in trouble?”
You and Veronica both laugh. It stings his already raw nerves.
“The county decriminalized it a couple years ago,” you inform him. “Plus, this neighborhood is super chill. That’s why we’re here.”
“Yeah, this place is a well kept secret, so don’t go spilling the beans.” Veronica points at him.
Corey forces a little chuckle.
“Okay,” he says, feeling helpless. Being steered towards saying yes makes him realize he wants to say no. He really can’t afford to lower his guard tonight, not even a little bit, not even for one second, but his only reasonable protest was deflated by decriminalization. What other reason could he give to reject Veronica’s hospitality? He’s learned the hard way how poorly that goes over down here, making enemies by accident at work. His only option is to acquiesce.
Veronica lights the joint and takes a drag, then holds it out between the front seats. You take it from her. The three of you pass it around and the inside of the car clouds. Corey takes it every time it’s offered, despite already starting to feel the way he felt the other night. After a few more rounds you hesitate to pass it to him.
“You doing okay, lightweight?” You ask him.
“Yeah,” he says. “Terrific.”
If he’s terrific, it’s in the original way of the word – full of terror. He’s sweating and his tongue feels like it’s the size of a hockey puck. His heart beats against his ribs like it’s trying to escape. His stomach turns like it’s being wrung out by invisible hands. You study him for a moment, then pass the joint back to Veronica instead of him, cracking a window. The tiny current of cool, fresh air feels glorious, but it’s not good enough. The car seems to be getting smaller and smaller, like he bit into a cookie that said Eat Me.
Once the joint has burned down too short to hold, Veronica places the roach back in her cigarette case and slips out of the car. You roll the window back up and turn the key. Corey tries and fails to open his door, clawing at it, on the verge of a panic attack.
“Hey,” you say in a soothing voice, putting your hand on his thigh. “If you’re feeling sick, or freaking out, that’s normal. You just went a little overboard. A hotbox is a lot for your second time. Just breathe. It’ll pass in like, 10 minutes.” You lean in and give him a kiss on the cheek.
Corey’s head pounds. His fingers tingle and he can still feel your lips, like your kiss left a chemical burn. He tries to ask to go home, but he can only produce a barely audible croak, and you’re already closing your door and joining Veronica on the sidewalk. He opens the car door and nearly falls out, struggling to get his footing under Veronica’s baleful eye. He suddenly feels very sure that she’s onto him, that she knows everything about him already. If he lies to her she’ll catch him red-handed, and she’ll tell you everything. She’s going to be a problem , he thinks.
Veronica leads the way into the pub, to a booth in the back corner. The interior looks like it was put together with a $15 budget. The tables, booths, and chairs, all mismatched and clearly salvaged, cracks in the leather patched over with green tape, rest directly on the plywood subfloor, which has been painted a powdery-looking black. Above the bar, the beer list is written on a chalkboard in cramped, messy handwriting. A single speaker on a shelf weakly broadcasts a song with beautiful, sparkling guitars, and vocals like the singer is being attacked. Corey thinks he might like it under different circumstances, but right now the juxtaposition only serves to set him even more on edge.
Mercifully the restaurant is almost empty. The only other people are the employees, a couple near the door with their heads together, and a solitary man at the end of the bar with a pint of dark beer in front of him. You and Veronica make small talk. You lace your fingers with Corey’s under the table, and he tries to focus on the sensation of your small, warm hand in his palm while he waits to come down a little.
A girl brings menus and a glass of water to the table. She greets you and Veronica by name and sets the cup in front of Corey.
“You look like you need that,” she says.
“Thank you,” he rasps.
You and Veronica order your drinks and an appetizer. The waitress didn’t give him a straw, so Corey lifts his glass to his lips with a shaky hand and chugs. Then he gets paranoid about having bad manners and sets the glass down, blotting his lips with his hand. Veronica looks at him with raised brows.
“Cool ring,” she says.
“Thanks.”
“Pretty unique. Looks vintage.”
“Uh, it was my dad’s.” Corey can’t help but think of the teen movie marathon again, imagining Veronica’s interest as plastic, and as soon as he’s out of earshot she’ll whisper to you that it’s the ugliest effing ring I’ve ever seen . When he blinks his eyelids feel like sandpaper. It’s so fucking hot in here. Has it been 10 minutes yet?
“Veronica loves vintage jewelry,” you say. “She found some really cool shit at the flea market the other day. There was this Victorian bracelet the seller didn’t even realize was super rare.”
“Yeah, I almost felt bad about how little I paid. Almost.”
“Almost,” you echo, nodding.
Corey finishes his water, drinking more slowly. He can feel it sloshing unpleasantly inside him every time he moves, but he’s never been thirstier in his life.  The waitress delivers him another glass with the appetizer.
“How long have you lived here?”
“Year and a half,” Corey feels his mouth say.
It’s like his brain has been split in two. He isn’t paying attention, the vibrations of the very molecules he’s made of are so loud he can’t focus on anything but that and the washed out, crackling sound of the speaker. Yet he’s giving coherent responses, answering Veronica’s questions before they even register.
And Veronica asks him a lot of questions. Veronica bombards him with questions.
“Where are you from?”
He already told you Illinois, so he has to be honest, and when she asks for the name of the town, the part of his brain doing the talking is relieved he wasn’t stupid enough to tell you that too. He just says it’s rural and small, not the kind of place people have heard of. It’s not a lie. No one would have heard of it, if it wasn’t for Michael. Still, it’s a risky move. She lets him get away with it.
“Do you like it here?”
“It’s better than home.”
“Where do you work?” He tries to be vague but she weasels the name of the shop out of him, saying “Oh, where? There aren’t any VW dealerships in town and my current guy always complains when I come in.”
Maybe it’s not the car they’re complaining about , half of Corey’s mind thinks.
“How long have you been a mechanic?” “How did you start working on cars?” “Did you go to college?” “Why only for two years?” “What did you plan to major in?” “What made you interested in that?”
When his food is set on the table, the sick feeling he’s been battling since the third time the joint was placed between his fingers is immediately replaced with gnawing hunger. He devours his own meal in record time, all concern about manners gone, before he starts stealing your fries, sliding them one by one off your plate in an attempt to be sneaky. You catch him almost right away, but you just laugh and put your plate where it’s easier for him to reach. Veronica finally lets up when she and Corey both have their mouths full.
While she’s still eating he starts to feel all the water he drank, and he’s pleased to have an excuse to ask you to let him out of the booth before she can start up again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You crane your neck to watch your boyfriend’s broad back disappear around the corner towards the bathroom. “What are you doing?” You ask as soon as he’s gone.
“Trying to get to know your boyfriend.”
“Why are you asking him a bunch of shit I’ve already told you?”
“I’m making sure his story’s consistent.”
“And why are you doing that, Detective?” You’re frustrated. The night hasn’t been terrible, but it hasn’t gone how you hoped at all. You wanted Veronica and Corey to hang out, not play Interrogation. You know she’s not endearing herself to him by acting this way.
“I don’t know.” Veronica picks at the label on the glass bottle in front of her. “He was so resistant to meet me, I wanna be sure he isn’t hiding anything.”
You heave a sigh. “I really appreciate that you’re worried about me, V. You’ve seen me through more relationship bullshit than you should have had to. But Corey doesn’t have any of the red flags that Hurley and Orin did. You can’t make him guilty by association.”
“I’m not! I’m making him suspicious by association.” She laughs. “But I’ll chill.”
“Thank you.”
Over her shoulder you see Corey leave the bathroom and slip out the front door, already pulling his cigarettes out of his pocket
“What do you think though?”
“I haven’t gotten enough from him to really know. He’s pretty… terse.”
“Thinks a lot but doesn’t say much. Remember when I said that was his vibe?”
“Yeah, back when he was just Mr. Library.”
“Also I think we greened him out a little.”
“Oops,” Veronica says with a grimace.
You wait five, ten, fifteen minutes for Corey to come back inside. Veronica remarks on how long he’s been gone, and you’re just about to stand up to go find him when he comes back through the door.
“So,” she prompts as he settles into the booth, on the outside this time. “What’s your sign?”
“Seriously?” You ask with a snort.
“What? I don’t believe in it that much, I just think it’s fun,” she defends.
“I don’t know my sign,” Corey says.
Veronica looks to you, silently asking if you can fill in the gap.
“Um… I don’t know either, I never remember which dates are what.” The statement is true enough, but you’re using it as a cover. A more honest reply would be I don’t know Corey’s birthday . What the fuck? How are you just now realizing you don’t know his fucking birthday? You sink into the booth.
“Well, when were you born?” Veronica asks.
“April 18th,” Corey says. If he realizes this is the first time you’ve heard that date, he makes no indication.
“Ah. An Aries.”
“What does that mean?”
“Aries is the ram. Named after the god of War, ruled by the planet Mars. Aries can be aggressive, impulsive, quick to explosive anger, impatient. They love instant gratification and dangerous situations.”
“Wow, super insightful,” you say sarcastically, rolling your eyes. You want out of this conversation, out of this restaurant, now . You don’t want to process that this is how you found out a major piece of information about the man you’ve been dating for months with an audience. “That’s why I don’t fuck with it. It’s always just a list of mean adjectives.”
Corey tries to take your hand under the table, but you keep your fingers curled under so he can’t slip his between them. You’re not sure if you’re mad at him or not, if you should be mad at him or not.
“There’s positives too! Aries are really passionate. They love a challenge. And they’ll fight like hell on behalf of their loved ones,” Veronica offers.
“Good to know,” you say with finality.
The waitress, your friend Shelly, approaches the table. She looks between the three of you with curiosity, sensing the vibe has changed. “Dessert?” She asks.
“Yes, please,” Corey says.
She lists options, cakes and pies provided by a bakery down the street. Corey asks for a slice of chocolate cake.
“To go, please,” you add.
Veronica shoots you a look across the table.
“Just tired.” You shrug, trying to seem casual.
She doesn’t buy it. The two of you just look at each other until Shelly returns with Corey’s cake in a plastic container. She sets it on the table with a disposable fork and the check. Veronica breaks eye contact to reach for the check, but Corey’s already holding it, fumbling to get his wallet out of his pocket. He hands Shelly a wad of cash and tells her to keep the change. You cross your fingers he’s not too stoned to do the math for the tip.
