-It’s in the way you start shortening your answers, or that you say you aren’t hungry for dinner but it’s on the stovetop

-He’ll come up behind you from where you are trying to draw, your hand clenching and unclenching on your stylus

-“Okay, tell me what’s bothering you. You can always talk to me, sweetheart. I’m here to listen to you, for better or for worse, right?”

-That caused you to drop your stylus, your IPad sliding off of your lap as you hunched over, willing the sick feeling in your tummy to go away

-Akaashi would start around the couch, sliding in next to you where he could slide his hand up and down your back, his fingers tracing every detail of your spine

-His other hand would cup your cheek, his thumb brushing over every small impurity while his eyes searched for yours

-You were gazing down at your lap, your bottom lip captured by your teeth, trying to hold in what could be a sob or a sigh

-“Sweetheart? Can you please tell me what’s going on? Or what I can do to help?”

-At that, his fingers slid from your cheek, pushing a strand of hair out of your eyes before letting his hand run over the back of your scalp, tangling in your dark locks

-With his graceful and calming touches, you slowly but surely started to soften in his grip

-He still moved his skillful fingers along your back, easing deep breaths out of you as he matched your breathing, slowing it down gradually

-A soft but quiet hum falls from his lips, and this seems to catch your attention

-It’s a familiar melody, one you could put a name to if you tried, but you simply focused on the timbre of his voice and the way his cerulean eyes focused on your own

-“Are you alright, my love?” he would ask it so tenderly that your answer just seemed to flow from your mouth

-Words about the stresses of your day, the insecurities that plagued your mind, just the general weight of the world

-But, being Akaashi, he wouldn’t take any of that

-“My dear, you are simply the most exquisite being on this planet. I know you may be stressed and lonely now, but I am always with you. In-person, here, and always, always, in your heart.”
