If you're still taking asks for the QHT!SY-verse, I'm curious about how being married might have changed Shen Qingqiu's relationships with his martial siblings.
Largely for the worse, across the board. No one thought much of Shen Jiu visiting brothels while he was single; but now that he has a wife who followed him to Cang Qiong and supported him during the early years of his discipleship, Shen Jiu's reputation is sinking further by the day. X_X

So you know how Qiu Jianluo betrothed his little sister to her favorite plaything, a slave he had really conspicuously not manumitted? And it's creepy for a bunch of reasons including that one of the motives was, it meant he could avoid marrying her out of his household?
So notably, there was a longstanding institution irl of indenturing little girls so they grew up doing domestic labor as bondswomen, and then when one grew up the master was supposed to find her a good husband, using his much better resources than her family had.
Managing to turn this into a daughter-in-law audition by making yourself indispensable to the household, so they'd marry you in and up, was sort of the brass ring lol. I don't think it happened that much for real but it makes such a good story, right?
Shen Jiu was doing this trope gender reversed and very much against his will, which I think goes on the list of gendered tropes getting fucked with.
But seriously, if he had married Qiu Haitang and her brother dropped dead, like. What would that situation have looked like? I think that would make Shen Jiu the legitimate inheritor of the Qiu estate, since Airplane in his wife collection narrative had no reason to alter the historical fiction norm (even more emphatic than the historical norm) that women could only function as vessels of transmission for real property, rather than direct heirs.
Except he'd have to get his manumission officialized first, probably?? So irregular.
Also tho, imagine Yue Qingyuan shows up at the gates having fractured his own soul in desperation to get back and he arrives to find not a smoking ruin, but a household headed by the scrawny angry teenage master of the estate, Qiu Jiu.

thinking about the motif of debt/repayment in scums villain e.g:
"It was merely a wave of a hand to you both, but to me, it is a debt I'd pursue through ten thousand deaths." -Zhuzhi Lang
"A drop of kindness should be repaid by a torrent." -Zhuzhi Lang
"Qi-ge will remember this loyalty; in the future he'll definitely repay you." -Yue Qingyuan
"To think that a lifetime's moment of loyalty actually had to be repaid with so much" -Shen Qingqiu, on how Original Yue Qingyuan got pierced by 10 thousand arrows to save Shen Jiu
And probably most famously, "Everything that's happened in the past, I'll repay it all to you today." -Shen Qingqiu
the crux of Proud Immortal Demon Way is, after all, revenge. tianlang jun taking revenge on the cultivation world, luo binghe taking revenge on his scum teacher, qiu haitang taking revenge on shen jiu -- so it makes sense that the same ardour would be given to repaying good things as it was to repaying bad.
and. if you think about it. every character either successfully repays their debts OR has their original motive resolved eg: zhuzhi lang dies protecting tianlang jun, shen qingqiu "dies" absorbing binghe's demonic energy OR luo binghe's teacher no longer being scum, su xiyan never actually betraying tianlang jun
except one character.
yue qingyuan failed to come back like he promised. he failed to prevent qiu jianluo's abuse. he failed to save shen jiu from burning to death. when he found out shen jiu didnt die, he failed to resolve the original motive by telling him "i actually did come back for you." when he tried, it was too late and shen jiu had died and he failed to realize he was talking to a different person.
in a world defined by reimbursement, qi-ge failed to ever reimburse shen jiu.

The same way I saw someone once give Wu Yanzi a redemption by being wife beamed by Shen Yuan, I lowkey kind of wanna see it done to Qiu Jianluo...
Like, Shen Yuan does not know what type of person Qiu Jianluo is! He's just as clueless as Qiu Haitang. In this life, he was reborn as the son of a rich household. Mayhaps, it's an alternate universe where he has the same family, but in a different time period (in PIDW). Shen Yuan could still have his frail health, or he could be stronger since it's a world where almost anything is possible... all because of Luo Binghe and the wife plots. Luo Binghe is not important in this plot, though.
Anyway, Shen Yuan appears at the Qiu household because he was forced to for whatever reason. He meets Shen Jiu, and is immediately charmed because of how adorable and considerate he is. (Really, Shen Jiu felt like he is walking on thin ice because Shen Yuan is friends with Qiu Jianluo, so he didn't want to get on Shen Yuan's bad side as the consequences could be way worse if Qiu Jianluo heard.) But Shen Jiu clocks that Shen Yuan is not as fake as Qiu Jianluo after meeting him several times. Also, Shen Jiu keeps getting the ick that Qiu Jianluo fake ass persona acts way worse around Shen Yuan.
Qiu Jianluo wants to whip Shen Jiu for being so damn imprudent, but he is always hiding behind Shen Yuan. Qiu Jianluo does not want Shen Yuan of all peeps to find out about his true persona. (Shen Yuan kind of already knew mostly due to rumors, but he thought it was outrageous. Regardless, there may be a good reason for it!) Kind of want Qiu Jianluo to be slightly younger than Shen Yuan because I want Shen Yuan to fawn over a "beast". Qiu Jianluo is a beast in Shen Jiu's eyes. At the same time, while Shen Jiu refuses to admit that he's kind of the same type as Qiu Jianluo, he likes Shen Yuan giving him the same type of affection. (Y'know what they say about like father, like son or like mother, like daughter? Except this is like abuser, like abused type...? Whatever if that doesn't make sense.)
Anyway, Shen Yuan giving Qiu Jianluo head pats, v platonic kisses on the cheek or forehead, hugs, and what not. Qiu Haitang and Shen Jiu also gets the same type of affection. Shen Jiu can tell Qiu Jianluo is fucking jealous and infuriated out of his mind. Although, he is way more chill about it when Shen Yuan does it to Qiu Haitang, he fucking hates Shen Jiu to the point where Qiu Jianluo wants to kick Shen Jiu out rather than keep him to marry Qiu Haitang or have his fun with Shen Jiu. He just wants the slave GONE. However, he can't do that when Shen Yuan adores that damn fucking slave.
Forgot to mention that Qiu Jianluo's obsession with Qiu Haitang decreased as it is going towards Shen Yuan now instead.
Qiu Jianluo had whipped Shen Jiu for this before, but he stopped after seeing how much Shen Yuan coddled the slave when the slave had said his injuries was due to his clumsiness. They both know that Shen Jiu would've gotten punished way worst, maybe to death had he said the truth. However, this is Shen Yuan. That would've never happened.
Qiu Jianluo doesn't even want to find out what Shen Yuan would've done had he actually found out. (So in some case, Shen Jiu has the upper hand here.) Although, Qiu Jianluo would probably try to abuse him more discreetly in locations that Shen Yuan cannot see unless Shen Jiu gets stripped.
Thanks to that Shen Jiu was able to eat well, grow slightly fatter, be hygienic, grow taller, heal from his injuries, be educated—feel human, and not feel like the Xiao Jiu he is.
Shen Jiu still despises men, but he likes how safe he feels with Shen Yuan. He still thinks he is disgusting(?) For feeling safe with women, and Shen Yuan. Not that he'll ever admit it, but he'll use anything that will help him. Qiu Jianluo continues to belittle him, that he is nothing to Shen Yuan no matter how kind he is being treated. Shen Jiu can't tell if that jab was at him or at Qiu Jianluo himself.
Four years later(?), Yue Qingyuan comes to save Shen Jiu as he promised. That's when Shen Yuan learned that Shen Jiu was a slave, and not a servant. Shen Yuan tells Qiu Jianluo to free him, and Qiu Jianluo accepts without hesitation. This makes it easier to get rid of that slave without defiling his own hands. Sure, Qiu Haitang did complain about it, but this was the best scenario for him.
Qiu Jianluo probably sent out assassins to get Shen Jiu's head, but they all mostly failed because Shen Jiu is the scum villain that should die by Luo Binghe's hands, so he has his own type of "protagonist's halo", but in this case, "villain's halo"? The most that happened to Shen Jiu is injuries that may or may not have almost killed him.
While Shen Jiu is still feral, he isn't as feral as the original scum villain thanks to Shen Yuan's presence. Mayhaps, Shen Jiu plans to whisk Shen Yuan away once he is Peak Lord.

SVSSS AU where Shen Yuan's younger sister does a villainess transmigration.
The world she ends up in was originally a dating game and visual novel with some light RPG and crafting elements. Playing as purehearted main girl Qiu Haitang, one could choose any number of routes to pursue, from dashing Liu Qingge, to scholarly Mu Qingfang, sexy ice demon Linguang Jun, cute-but-domineering younger half-demon Luo Binghe, and so on. It was an interesting game, though it notoriously inspired some frustration when some of the more interesting side characters (like Yue Qingyuan) were completely unavailable as romantic options, and inspired at lot of rumors about hidden content and demands on future DLC expansions.-
Shen Meimei hadn't particularly liked the game. Sure, she played every route to 100% completion, bought all the extras, the official soundtrack, and the merch (fanmade as well as what slim-pickings existed officially), but that shouldn't be mistaken for approval. Much of that was in fact a desperate quest to figure out what the hell was even going on! Ignore the play time listed for this scathing Steam review, everyone! It shouldn't be factored into any assessments!
The game had several problems, in Shen Meimei's opinion.
The main issue was the lack of follow-through on the buildup of the backstory. Qiu Haitang's whole family was killed one night, maybe-probably by her sketchy as fuck ex-fiancee, who was also a hostage being kept by the Qiu family as leverage against a rival family. Which begged so many questions! Shen Meimei had suspected all along that there was more to it than met the eye (not just because the evil family shared her surname) but it was never deeply delved into. The whole thing only even got resolution in some of the routes, and the most thorough was Luo Binghe's. Luo Binghe had a huge vendetta against Shen Qingqiu, Haitang's sketchy former fiance, which left a lot of room for doubt about his investigating the issue. Was Shen Qingqiu really to blame? Or was Luo Binghe just taking advantage of an opportunity to pin SOME crime on him, since he couldn't really get him for the shit he actually did to Luo Binghe himself? What about the hints regarding that Wu Yanzi guy? Why did those never seem to amount to much? Were the Qiu family really stupid enough to betroth their only daughter to a hostage, or was something else going on? And what about Xiao Qi, the slave boy servant of the Qiu who was mentioned a few times as another possible survivor or witness, but who never comes up again?
Shen Meimei played through everything, certain that there had to be some way to actually solve or gain clarity on the Mystery of the Qiu Family Murders, but even after completing the main routes and unlocking and completing the hidden ones -- nothing! It was all just swept aside in favor of tepid romance arcs, made all the more insufferable because of the compelling subtext between the male love interests. Like, why were any of these guys even interested in Haitang when they so clearly had more going on with each other?
Annoyance over a game Shen Meimei lost too many hours of her life to was one thing, of course.
Transmigrating into the younger sister of notoriously sketchy ex-fiance Shen Qingqiu was another!
Bad news: in the routes where Shen Qingqiu is prosecuted for his crimes, his whole family goes down with him. So if this goes poorly, not only will he be punished, but so will Shen Meimei!
Worse news: this fictional version of her family is almost identical to her actual real family. To the point where she would be checking everyone else for transmigration, except that no one but her seems aware that anything is odd. Shen Qingqiu acts exactly like her older brother, right down to his particular flavor of prickly social behavior and cynicism. And their middle brother is a chronically ill nerd who hate-reads trash novels and is completely fascinated by weird monsters (a much more worrisome trait in a world that actually has a lot of those...)
In short, her life is on the line, and so is her family's!
Damn you, Veiled Heroine Games! If you hadn't abandoned so many plot threats, Shen Meimei might actually know what was going on and be able to neatly circumvent everything! But now she has to figure out how to win the protagonist back over, rescue her brothers, and solve (and possibly further cover up...) the mysterious Qiu family murders, all while keeping Luo Binghe away from Shen Jiu, and preventing Qiu Haitang from completing any of the romance plotlines that will cause troubles for them! Which is most of them!

I never really do this, but I mostly wanted to let you know you're my favorite SVSSS blog here. You've got all of the characters dead on as far as characterization goes and your AUs are hilarious and super fun. It's nice to have someone that doesn't just remember the fandom version of things. That being said: what's your least favorite part of the story, for curiosity's sake?
Tumblr media
Hehe thank youuuuu
My least fav part was definitely the vague way they handled Qiu Haitang's end?? Like every other characters got their plot holes wrapped up (Yue qingyuan got to apologize, airplanes story was finished how he wanted, etc) and then for Qiu Haitang's character we just got... this line
Tumblr media
I literally remember jerking in place, going "huh???? she died????", going back to the chapter and needing to reread it again and finding this
Tumblr media
DUDE. You can't go "oh we'll just assume she's dead" with two small paragraphs to kill her off
And honestly I think there could have been a lot of depth to her character. The first time I read svsss, obviously I hated her for her braindead "we treated our slaves nicely, why would shen jiu do that!" take.
But after reading and rereading scum villain so many times I've realized she's another victim of Qiu Jianluo's..
In Shen Jiu's extra we read this:
If Haitang married Shen Jiu, she wouldn't need to leave, and she'd still rely on their family for food, clothes, and money. It would be as good as not marrying her off in the first place. The plan had no flaws, other than the fact that matching her with Shen Jiu was a bit like letting a toad get a taste of some sumptuous swan meat.
Like what the fuck!! He manipulated his sister into being engaged to their slave so that she would remain dependant on him!! That kind of obsessiveness is not normal and I want to know what other things he did to make her end up in her place.
And there's the fact that Shen Jiu did genuinely consider Qiu Haitang someone he cared for, to the point he was very close to Yingying due to their similarity
Tumblr media
Can you imagine her point of view of how things went down? Can you imagine having all he men in your house murdered, having your house burned down when you're a YOUNG GIRL, finding out it was your FIANCE that did it, and spending years hunting him down to get revenge for your family? And then right when she thought she was getting justice for her brother, she found out all along her brother was the bad guy.
Like holy shit her reaction to finding out the truth about what happened was THIS:
Tumblr media
Give me a Qiu Haitang extra !!!!! I want to know more!! What did she think of her engagement to Shen Jiu? Did she think she was helping him out of slavehood? Where did she search for Shen Jiu all those years? How did she start working with the palace master and what lies did he tell her? What did she do after finding out the truth?? I refuse to accept "she probably died" as her end!!

Been mulling over a AU that popped up in my head. (A couple, actually but this one's got me good)Basically, Bingge has grown bored (and hollow) after doing his world's Shen Jiu in.
After he went and seen the 'fake Shizun' and the whiny version of himself (that kicked his ass too, HES TOTALLY NOT FEELING LIKE A SORE LOSER RN. He just got lucky, is all..) LBG decides fuck it, I'm back at dimension hopping to see where I land,And where does he end up?
In a world where Shen Jiu never escaped the Qiu household. But Bingge doesn't know that. He never cared about anything relating to his Shizun other than suffering, so when he spies his.. Shizun, out in a bright market, tailing around Qiu Haitang, dressed in COMMON robes, no light in his eyes, looking down at the ground, with his hair tied up in a braid over his shoulder, Bingge obviously wants to know what's up.
He spies his chance to get SJ alone, when Qiu Haitang goes off for a bit on her own, telling SJ to stay put, he strikes. The look on his Shizun's face is far from what he expected. Cautious, fearful, and downtrodden. He's been beat down, he's been broken, he's a pet at this point..
He's also VERY confused. Why is this noble man so interested in a slave like him? He clearly wants something, everyone wants something. Before Bingge gets some good jabs in at him about how miserable he looks, QHT comes back and gives him a weird look, before stringing SJ along again and away they go..
But that's not the end of that.
LBG follows them, and later in the night stalks SJ. He watches his Shizun move stiffly. Even in private, his head is down, and he has this lost expression on his face.In his dreams, LBG gives him everything he's ever wanted, he wants a stick of tanghulu? Its his. That really nice, fancy robe he's always wanted, but it's so pricey and too nice for a slave like him? Its his. It.. feels nice to he pampered, but who's this strange man? And why does he want anything to do with someone as low as SJ?
Turns out Bingge has a helpless Shizun obsession and spies his chance at molding Shizun like he molded him. This Shizun, who isn't even a Shizun (gives him a weird look because. Hes not a Shizun? But he still insists on calling him that?? Starts responding to it because he won't stop calling him Shizun)
Days go on into weeks, months, and Luo Bingge has been hounding SJ incessantly. He knows what's up, man wants him carnally. And he's not humoring it, often telling this idiot lord that he has better things he should be doing, than trying to entice a slave to love him.
Binghe does not give up, of course, and proceeds to prod him for information about what's happened to him. Some, he talks about, little he elaborates on, and other times, SJ just gives him a certain look that only says ‘I don't want to talk about that.’
LBG thought he would enjoy this, watch SJ go around like a solemn husk. Just waiting to die.. He doesn't. He wants to give him everything and more. You may be asking 'What about QJL? YWZ?’ well this ain't ABOUT them. QJL is a bitch and died early. YWZ is probably in a ditch somewhere probably. And is SJ married to QHT? Answer; he is not, because of QJL's death, QHT prefers his company as it was. Just an ear to listen and hands to braid her hair. She doesn't know about the abuse.
LBG either kills all the Qiu men, and burns the manor to the ground, or he buys SJ off of QHT.. Probably threatening to kill her over a slave. SJ learns about this, when LBG comes to claim him while he's cleaning, and he just thinks LBG is fucking with him.His face when he learns LBG *bought* him out, to make him his own, is priceless to LBG.
Pro? He gets to leave!
Con? He has to leave with the desperate man that's been trying to court him for GOD, YEARS? Slowly earning his trust, opening him up like the tender flower that he was to LBG… Okay. Maybe it won't be so bad.
LBG takes him away to a little hovel out in the woods, just outside the village. It's rather lavish for such a humble little home, with a garden, a pond, HOT SPRINGS, everything you'd imagine could self sustain, LBG has planned and plotted out over the years of getting to know SJ. Like /actually/ know him.
Even when they share the same bed, SJ doesn't really say much. What is there *to* say?
Every early morning, he gets up, makes breakfast, LBG has told him numerous times he doesn't have to do those things anymore. So.. what is he supposed to do? It's what he's used to. If everything is done already, why is SJ here?
LBG, seeing how lost SJ is without /something/ to do. So he starts suggesting things that his Shizun would do. Paint, play the guqin, so on so fourth. It's far too late for SJ to become a Cultivator, and he shows no interest in it either. So, LBG has a little homebody Shizun..
Eventually, SJ makes SO many paintings, LBG brings up that maybe he should sell them in town, make some money for himself. SJ is reluctant at first, obviously. He doesn't want to run a stand by himself.. He doesn't want to be around people. They would recognize him!So, ultimately, SJ decides against it and hoards his paintings.
Now, being who I am, ofc there's gonna be Mpreg. LBG knocks up SJ knowingly, and ‘comes to the conclusion’ that SJ is pregnant. He's absolutely not happy about this, but whatever. If his new master wants that of him, fine… It's better than anything else he could ask for. (His usual, sexually charged pestering. UGH)
Now, later in the plot, SJ is pregnant LBG decides to return home, just to see how everything is going. (Not good, all his wives and SJ’s ghost are mad at him.)Could kick this up a notch, and instead of just one SJ, LBG has MANY that he portal hops to meet up with and be absolutely filthy with (Dirty Shizun Fucker.) or to be pampered by that hand that should have, could have, but didn't in his world.
And when this dumbass finally returns to his wifey SJ, not only did he have the baby, BUT he started selling his paintings, and is LIVID with LBG. Holding the baby in one arm, hair tied up in a ponytail as he GIVES it to LBG.
When he finds out he intentionally left SJ a bunch of money, he's pissed and storms off with a huff. LBG treated him a little too good, because he's now the fiery SJ he knows and loves! LBG is a total kiss ass, and despite sleeping outside because of it, he still loves his Not-Shizun, Shizun.
He won't admit he has a Shizun Problem, and he's happy keeping it that way.
This /could/ go into SJ being PL of QJ, CQMS, but I'm unsure how to weave it together since SJ is already an adult and I'm unsure if adults can start Cultivation THAT late, but I like the sound of SJ just getting to live a normal mortal life..
Which brings LBG to panik™. SJ is getting older, his hair is greying. They've been together for YEARS at this point.. Their baby, Bingwen, is not so baby anymore. So.. LBG does the only obvious thing he can do, and turns SJ immortal, maybe even into a demon, or his Empress. Since, well, SJ at eternal place at his side? Sign LBG up!
But, SJ doesn't want that. Sounds nice, but.. He doesn't want to go on forever like this. If LBG had a heart, he would let SJ go. Spoiler; HE DOESN'T. SJ is mad at him yet again, and shuts him out for a while. He can, and can't believe LBG. He said he cared! He trusted him! It was bad enough they papapa’d, bad enough that he ended up pregnant with that idiots child…
But still. He loves him. He gives SJ everything. There are plenty of times LBG overstepped the boundaries he asked SJ to set himself, to make him feel a little more real. Like he /belonged./ Oh LBG, you're just a mess aren't you…
So, we are left with Immortal Shen Jiu. Does he stay in the humble little home, to live with his son and his idiot master-husband coming by on occasion to bother him,Or does he become LBG’s Empress in this world?
Either way, he ends up coming to terms with being a immortal, and that he's stuck with a deranged idiot for the rest of eternity. (Affectionate)

svsss omegaverse secondary sexes because i have brain worms
this was actually kind of hard. on one hand, pidw is a stallion novel written mostly as fan-service, so of course there’s gonna be lots of papapa between the mega-ultra-super-alpha and all his pretty omega flowers. airplane would’ve written it to be the horny drivel that is, in some sense, the beloved heart of omegaverse.
on the other hand, eye personally think omegaverse can be so much more interesting than ‘alpha=masculine powerful manly man, omega=feminine weak submissive and breedable.’ gentle alphas, delicate alphas, powerful feminine regardless of gender. aggressive omegas, assertive omegas, direct and violent and capable omegas regardless of gender. that’s good fuckin soup, and i feel like that probably existed in airplane’s original drafts before he started pumping out the fanservice.
ANYWAYS, this is the list:
shen yuan: omega, much to his chagrin
luo binghe: alpha (obviously)
ning yingying: omega
ming fan: beta
shen qingqiu: alpha (half-bitched, but his condition is managed and no one but mqf knows)
yue qingyuan: alpha (but he’s got a whole thing going on on too)
mu qingfang: beta
qi qingqi: beta
liu qingge: beta (which is the shock of shocks to shen yuan when he finds out)
liu mingyan: alpha
shang qinghua: beta
mobei-jun: alpha
sha hualing: beta
tianlang-jun: alpha
zhuzhi-lang: omega
su xiyan: beta
old washerwoman: beta
old palace master: beta (but he hides it with fake pheromones, medicines, qi manipulation, and magical artifacts)
little palace mistress: omega
gongyi xiao: alpha
qiu jianluo: alpha
qiu haitang: omega
almost all of bingge’s harem: omegas

half-thought-out sv atla crossover AU:
luo binghe is, naturally, the avatar (the past reincarnations are different to how they are in the real series and i guess each nation is more based on ancient china. just, sssh and go with it), long-lost son of the Fire Nation's Emperor Tianlang-Jun and the late waterbender su xiyan, raised in the Water Nation by the washerwoman lady, a nonbender. binghe also uses his water powers for bloodbending purposes a la blood parasites... i know the original series put limitations on bloodbending (you could only do it under a full moon or something?) but i feel like binghe being binghe would probably not be beholden to those same limitations.
shen jiu and yue qingyuan are former orphans from the Fire Nation and firebenders who have the same backstory wrt living on the streets (possibly still slavery?) the qiu family, wealthy nonbenders, didn't realise shen jiu was a firebender when they basically abducted him from the street until he burned their mansion down with them inside it (though as in canon he still saved qiu haitang). i haven't worked out the details but the next time they meet, yue qingyuan is the formidable general in Emperor Tianlang-Jun's army... shen jiu, meanwhile, has disguised himself as a woman and joined this AU's version of the Kyoshi Warriors, firebenders unaffiliated with the Emperor and his regime (the Warriors all know he isn't a woman and don't care, but shen jiu still dresses the same as them in public and adopts a husky, feminine voice because he feels like being The Only Male would draw undue attention to him). imagine qiu haitang hunting him down, finding him again, and being like "this is my former fiance!" and the rest of the girls are like "this is our sister?"
anyway, super important to me that general yue qingyuan and assassin shen jiu have the "i'll cut your throat! that will teach you!" "you're beautiful..." scene as part of their reunion.
uhhh liu qingge and liu mingyan are earthbenders and Earth Nation nobles. ning yingying and ming fan also give Earth Nation vibes... sha hualing is a Fire Nation noble/firebender and basically this AU's ty lee, she also does circus performances... mingyingling endgame.
mobei-jun and mu qingfang are waterbenders... shang qinghua and shen yuan airbenders from the same temple? i feel like a lot of people would be anti me making them bald but even if this Air Nation is less based on tibet, they'd still be buddhist monks... sorry for balding them... i think bald people are cute...

I think that you really can extrapolate the reason Bingge would end up with a harem in the number level of TOO MANY COOKS is that at least with the main leading ladies is that he sees them whether consciously or not as extents of his revenge.
Like let's be real marrying Sha Hualing is not a marriage for love. He has no reason to love her because girl attacked his sect and got him in a shit fight among other things. But because he's strong she provides allyship and support. She starts acting with affection so he responds back and takes her. Marrying Sha Hauling is marrying that girl who picked on you in middle school and getting to lord over in your head how you're now better than her.
Ning Yingying is no matter how you look at it, not innocent and absolutely marriage for spite. Like she's the reason Bingge lost his pendant. She's a huge source of why he was bullied. Yes, she was kind to him, but Luo Binghe was in such a bad state that he would latch onto anything. Being a kind enough person to not punch a child for just existing doesn't make you a good person. If you account for the flawed perspective of Bingge as all narrators are baised, they probably weren't even that good of friends potentially. I think everyday about how Ning Yingying goaded Ming Fan if not on purpose fully and willingly. She was constantly getting into trouble. Constantly making a mess. She never offers to help Luo Binghe out of his situation despite the fact that she is a large part of why it sucks. She doesn't make Shizun stop bullying him and she was clearly ready and willing to throw a man who never assaulted her under the bus. Luo Binghe sees her as the kindest but also he gets to spite everyone back by having her. Ning Yingying is revenge on Shen Qingqiu and Ming Fan and every one else on that peak. Marrying her is already revenge on the girl herself for being as far as Luo Binghe is concerned a tease whether he knows it or not.
Liu Mingyan? She's the prize. If anyone is a trophy it's her. The prettiest girl in the sect the high school queen bee. The woman men aspire to obtain as status. So beautiful you don't even see her face and you know she's the best because there's no sex even but shes just that valued. It's a woman you seek to prove a point. I am dating the hottest girl around not because I like her but because I'm just that good. Look how Chad I am. Look how much better I am.
Little Palace Mistress? Revenge on the cultivation world. Look, I'm a demon scum and here I am taking your sect and the daughter all in one swoop. Look how you've fallen. Look how I've taken all this power. Look how I outshone your golden boy and I didn't even have to care. I am apathetic and disgusting towards you personally and I still managed to do this. I am that much better than you. I didn't even have to try? I am a terrible person and I got her simply by being better, stronger, and simply more. I'm a better man than Gongyi Xiao and I never had to be earnest to get here.
The Qin sisters is absolutely collecting a set to prove a point. We will never know how much bingge actually wanted to have sex intitally but marrying all of them is a spite on that first sister. Like you thought you were special and you were using me and now look at where you are.
Qiu Haitang- god that's pure revenge on shizun. That's spitting on a grave and thinking you have won.
We know that. We know this.
Luo Binghe is like all his genre kin a product of incel rage. But the aspect of airplane doing the writing that makes it nuance is that Airplane knows that. Airplane knows it's miserable. That Luo Binghe is miserable. Airplane clearly set out to write a critique and then remembered his audience does not want nuance. These people do not want to hear that they are looking for revenge for some girl not looking at them the right way in middle school. So reflected back is Luo Binghe is miserable but doesn't know it.
He's in a depression funk that he cannot recognize as depression because he has been told these are makers for male success.
Even as they become more and more absurd.
This is also why Shen Yuan is confused by Bingmei not having a harem. Or needing a harem. Because our boy does not realize harem is revenge. He's looking at tropes and mechanics instead of themes and annoyed that the harem keeps growing but has no solution to ending the problem. He doesn't think anyone but Liu Mingyan is good enough because she's the one least associated with spite. She is the prize and therefore the only one worth desiring.
Bingmei doesn't need a harem because his revenge is not on men and society rejecting him. His revenge is on himself for not reaching an undefined pinnacle of goodness and personhood.
Both versions want love in a form of revenge but how that revenge manifests is what drives them to do stupid shit. Bingge wants revenge for himself. Bingmei wants revenge on himself

I was thinking about the #qiu haitang shen yuan au (it lives rent free in my head rn) and sy’s probably even WORSE about assuming they’re sticking to canon and that it’s all inevitable than in svsss.
because he has, to his knowledge, done jack shit to change sj no matter what he did. He still went to brothels and beat his disciples and while sy probably understands more WHY it doesn’t at all mean he condones it. I expect he was even optimistic for a short while, thinking he’d changed things, only to have the whip scene happen, which probably crushed all those dreams.
so why would he think that anything else he did mattered? This WILL bite him in the ass later. (Esp Jinlan City)
on a lighter note, does liu mingyan still write rpf porn of them in this universe, or are they too straight for her tastes here?
Shen Yuan believes that the plot can be changed through random chance (for example, him being the one in the Lingxi Caves with Liu Qingge, instead of SJ); but after finding out that Shen Jiu was still a raging child abuser, he lost all hope/belief that anyone's character could change. Re: Jinlan, Shen Yuan ends up dead because he assumed that 1) Luo Binghe was responsible for the sowers and 2) that he set the whole thing up to frame and ultimately get revenge on Shen Jiu.
Luo Binghe was so heartbroken by this assumption that he qi deviated on the spot, which led to Shen Yuan self-destructing and dying to protect him (with no expectations of ever coming back to life, unlike in canon). The qi deviation was worse in this AU because Binghe honestly thought his Shizun still loved and believed in him, only to get hit with the revelation that she believed him to be responsible for the plague all along.
Liu Mingyan does write Bingyuan RPF, but only 1) during the last year or two before the Abyss arc and 2) after Shen Yuan is revived, not while he was dead. Shen Jiu's refusal to fight Luo Binghe for "Qiu Haitang's" remains caused a scandal that rocked the cultivation world, and "Qiu Haitang" gained a reputation as a woman who was horrifically mistreated by her husband in life and completely abandoned in death. Her story (in the public's eye) was heartbreaking from beginning to end; and under the circumstances, Liu Mingyan didn't have the heart to keep writing about her finding a happy ending with Luo Binghe.

Did Yue Qi and Shen Jiu have surnames as slaves? I've seen people claim both. Obviously the narration called them Yue Qi and Shen Jiu, but I can't find any dialogue referring to them by full names until after the reunion, only "Qi-ge" and "Xiao Jiu".
Is there any reason to believe they wouldn't have surnames, or is the lack of dialogue mentioning them just due to the overall small amount of dialogue in the qijiu pre-CQMS era, with most of it being just directly between themselves qijiu?
So, I ended up doing some research into this. Pre-Qin, only nobles had surnames at all while slaves and commoners did not, but starting in the Warring States period, lower-class families also began to use surnames, and during the Qin Dynasty, most if not all families had them. Unlike MDZS, as far as I know, SVSSS doesn't have a distinctive time period in which it takes place so it's difficult to tell specifics, but I would probably headcanon it to take place after Qin Dynasty (somewhere between the Six Dynasties period and Song Dynasty, if I had to guess, with various influences from all across that time period and beyond... it's probably safe to assume that Airplane ended up mashing together all kinds of historical periods as influences).
In ancient times, slaves could be from noble families that were toppled, in which case I believe they'd still carry those surnames, or they might be given their master's surnames if they had achieved something notable, but I don't really think that this applies much to Shen Jiu and Yue Qi's situation.
(Also, I am not a historian so if anyone knows better please feel free to add on!)
These two not having surnames seems to be supported on the surface:
"When he was twelve years old, he was but a slave my family had purchased from traveling child traffickers. As the ninth child in that band, he was called Xiao-Jiu." (7 Seas, Ch. 6)
And additionally, when Shen Jiu is writing characters, he only knows "Qi" and "Jiu" without any surnames.
However, there is also the fact that Qiu Haitang calls him by his full name when she meets him:
Then there came a woman’s sweetly charming voice. “Shen Jiu… Are you Shen Jiu?” ... "No wonder I searched for so many years but still never found you again. I see, you’d already flown to the summit and become the aloof and lofty master of Qing Jing Peak. Ha ha, how splendid!" (7 Seas, Ch. 6)
Now... there are a few ways you could think of this. Does she address him this way because he did have a surname before? Or has she heard that the Qing Jing peak lord is surnamed Shen and calls him accordingly?
And then I went back to reread for this... and found out that Shen Jiu is called by his full name even before coming to the Qiu household:
So, [Shiwu] steeled himself and put on a brave face to say, “Shen Jiu, don’t think you can just throw your weight around. You don’t own this street. What gives you the right to tell us we can’t stay?!” (7 Seas, Ch. 24)
Which makes it very likely that the two had surnames-- and probably that at least one through nine did as well. Whether those that come after did is less clear, since they would already have two-character names, but that isn't particularly important. Now... where did they get them?
Either from families that sold them off, or it could be geographical, like taking a character from the name of the region or city they were purchased in. Maybe it was just randomly assigned. Whichever you end up going with, Shen Jiu was surnamed "Shen" from some point before we meet him in the flashback extra, and it's reasonable to assume that Yue Qi also had his surname.
Anyway, I feel like there's a decent bit up for interpretation, but they almost certainly received their surnames at some point during childhood, rather than at Cang Qiong Mountain.

【 all to myself, chapter 10 update!】
LINK: Chapter 10 - did you say, "please just follow me" FANDOM: The Scum Villain’s Self Saving System RATING: M, full tags and content warning on A03 PAIRINGS: Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu/Luo Binghe, One sided SQQ’s harem hopelessly in love with him
SUMMARY:
After making it to Jin Lan City to aid his martial brothers in curing a strange plague, Shen Qingqiu stumbles his way directly into a curse of his own. The fates have chosen a life to tie to Shen Qingqiu’s own—and of course it would be tied to the early arriving protagonist! As the curse worsens, Shen Qingqiu finds that distance between him and Luo Binghe begins to freeze him slowly. Literally freeze, he is at risk for hypothermia for not being right next to the guy who probably wants to turn him into a stick!
Wait—what do you mean Shen Qingqiu will also lose the ability to lie!? That’s an integral part of him not being unceremoniously sent back to the life where he’s already dead!
EXCERPT:
“The Old Palace Master seems to have it out for this Shen,” Shen Qingqiu says calmly. “Forgive me, but I can’t seem to recall a time I insulted him so much as to call for this level of attempted manipulation. You were initially helping Qiu Haitang, correct?”
“Ah, so you did speak with the girl,” the Old Palace Master sighed. “Indeed, it was this master’s pleasure to assist her in seeking the justice of her murdered family. Then she decided to be impatient and cavorted with demons—this master did advise against it, of course. Results notwithstanding.”
Meng Mo, Luo Binghe asks. The demon’s consciousness stirs against his own, thoughtful in its presence. He’s been aware of him nearby through the last little while—at least when he didn’t seem overly disgusted with Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe’s behavior toward one another.
He’d have to be unconscious for me to dive into that, Meng Mo points out mildly in his head. Then, thoughtfully, The woman that was with your beloved Shizun though, I may be able to get some interesting insight from her.
Go, Luo Binghe orders, and the dream demon fades from his thoughts like mist.
“This master has spoken with Miss Qiu and cleared up a misunderstanding,” Shen Qingqiu says calmly. “As much as her pain saddens this master to hear, he is not responsible for the death of the Qiu Estate.”
“You’re lying,” the Old Palace Master immediately responds. “This will come about in trial.”
Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu meet one another’s gazes for a brief moment, before their eyes flit away again. So the Old Palace Master doesn’t know the details of the curse—that makes sense, if the man was truly against Qiu Haitang employing a demon. The old man darts forward quickly, blade like lightning as it aims for Shen Qingqiu’s neck.
Three blades crash into one another, two crossing and one caught between the two of them. Xin Mo seems to hum in displeasure under Luo Binghe’s fingertips. Shen Qingqiu shoves the blade up and Luo Binghe pulls back to sweep Xin Mo in a slash. The Old Palace Master is gone in a moment, blade crashing against Xiu Ya before he can stab his Shizun.
The flurry of blows happens in an instant, and the Old Palace Master doesn’t let up. He attacks again and again, meeting Xin Mo or Xiu Ya—or blocking either of the two blades himself—in a shower of clangs and sparks. The fight is close quarters, and dangerous despite the Old Palace Master’s age—he is a master, a sect leader, after all.
But the fight is still two against one—the Old Palace Master is powerful, yes, but so is Luo Binghe. What Luo Binghe lacks in experience, his Shizun more than makes up for. More than that, the two of them are a fantastic team. They fall into a perfect rhythm with one another that Luo Binghe has dreamed of before. A deadly dance, each willing to cover their own openings—it helps that the Old Palace Master seems focused on Shizun. Something that fills Luo Binghe with a quiet rage.

Lately, I've been thinking a fic idea, but I don't think I'll carry it to life cause I don't have the time. But here it is.
Warning: it's sad. And it's Bingjiu.
What if, by some chance, Shen Jiu fell in the Abyss while he was Wu Yanzi's disciple. And, in thid Au, Shen Yuan also exists. So Luo Binghe falls into the abyss, and runs into his Shizun's look-alike, only considerably jumpy and much mire bitchy. And Shen Jiu runs into the first human-like creature in years. So, they decide to get together and try and leave the hell hole.
Luo Binghe is not as cruel as Bingge, but he just got betrayed by Shen Yuan, his dear Shizun, and he feels he can no longer trust cultivator sects and their righterous path. Shen Jiu is Shen Jiu, so he was never much righterous to begin with. Cue to Shen Jiu and Luo Binghe, both betrayed by the ones they loved and deeply flawed, grow close.
Even before finding Xin Mo, he's often doing, well, Luo Binghe shit and satiatying his need with demonesses. Shen Jiu blatantly refuses every advance: he'll only sleep with the man he marries. An issue arises, though, when Lbg gets cursed with a sex pollen like plant. Shen Jiu saves his life, only after forcing Lbg to promise him that he'll never leave his side. And Lbg, who's grown increadibly fond with this man who's as beautiful as his Shizun, but as wretched as he himself is, accepts.
Lbg and Shen Jiu escape the Abyss, and Binghe becomes demon emperor, making Shen Jiu his wife.
Once they leave the abyss, Lbg gets Shen Jiu to a hostel room, and sets him in a bed. Then, he places a pair of shoes in his battered up feet. Shen Jiu, orphan, then slave, then rogue demon cultivator, had never in his life worn shoes before.
Shen Jiu never cultivated in this life, so he's extreamely weak, almost human like, and his nasty actitude makes it easy for others to hate him. This was never an issue for them-until Lbg has a court, and an empire tu rule, and a pissy empress to protect.
Shit hits the fan when the sects hear about the new emperor, and invite him for a meeting. Luo Binghe is wierdly eager, Shen Jiu notices.
He is, of course, eager to see his Shizun. But he also wishes for Shen Jiu to reunite with, who probably is, his only lasting family member, maybe a long lost brother.
However an unexpected party appears at the meeting, ans that is Qiu Haitang. The woman accuses the Demon Empress for having murdered her entire family. And Shen Jiu, poor street kid with no education, doesn't react properly.
And if that were not enough, Sect Leader Yue Qingyuan was no other than his long lost childhood best friend.
Meanwhile, Luo Binghe seems distracted and distant, much more focused on the relationship with the sects than if what's happening inside his court.
The one who doesn't miss the chance if visiting, though, is Yue Qingyuan. It is from him that Sj learns about Shen Yuan, his he's probably his brother, and that he was Lbg's máster. Yqy tries to convide Xiao Jiu that Lbg isn't a good guy, that he wasn't good while he was in rhe sect, and that he has an eerie obsession with his máster, Shen Yuan.
However, Shen Jiu isn't willing to listen.
The sects demand that only giving Qiu Haitang her family back will serve as compensation, and that Lbg must take her as concubine. This is a plot from Hua Huan Palace to gain power. Qiu Haitang enters the palace, even if she isn't married yet.
Shen Jiu doesn't like it one bit. With the help of Ling Guan Jun, he plotes the murder of Qiu Haitang. The attempt fails, though, and Luo Binghe is furious: all his efforts in protecting Sj go down the drain.
He places Sj in house arrest, as he tries to appase the cultivation world. Sj is furious.
Why is Lbg treating him as if he was in the wrong? Why was what he had been doing all the time they were in the Abyss suddenly useless?
It is then that Shen Yuan comes to visit. Lbg allowed him to enter, and his former Shizun takes the ocassion for finally talking with his long lost brother. Sj won't deny he's curious.
But, as he makes tea, Shen Yuan falls immediately after drinking it. And Luo Binghe enters, just to find his Shizun convulsing due to poison in front of his wife.
Luo Binghe takes Sy, and orders guards to trap Sj, and not let anyone in.
He couldn't let his Shizun die, bc he gave him so much, but also bc he was Shen Jiu's only family.
Shen Jiu didn't know better, but he would. He would stop his sketchy ways one day, and become a better person. Luo Binghe was sure of that. But for it to happen, Shen Yuan needed to be there, too. He knew Sj, and he knew that, once the rage subsided, he'd never get over having poisoned his own brother. Bc Sj was much more sensible than he showed.
So he uses his blood parasites to cure Sy, even if he ends uo having to use too many.
The poison was increadibly strong, and leaves him almost unable to sence his mites.
That's he doesn't realize that Shen Jiu had drunk the poison, too.
It had been placed in his favorite tea, Shen Jiu realices, and his error had been deciding to share something precious to him with his long lost brother.
Shen Jiu would never harm his own brother, even if he envied him. Ever since they'd come to the castle, it seemed that Shen Jiu only commited mistakes. Shen Yuan wasn't like thag. He walked with pose and elegant, and smiled freely to others while Shen Jiu only knew how to throw nasty words. Maybe that's why Luo Binghe loved him.
After all, Shen Jiu was only a nasty slave that had tricked him into marrying him. Luo Binghe had never taken him seriously until his life had been in danger, and after that he'd never touched him again.
Maybe it was true what everyone said, that the Emperor's crazy wife made his the Demon's life miserable. Maybe it was truth what Yue Qingyuan implied, that he was only a Shen Yuan look alike Luo Binghe had recurred to when he believed he'd never leave the Abyss alive.
So Shen Jiu served himself a cup of tea, and drank it as he reminisced the day Luo Binghe bought him his first pair of shoes.
And he hoped that, from now on, Luo Binghe could be happy without a slave kid dragging him down.
