I’m gonna do my research for Stone Punk live here
(maybe that will keep me from chasing will-o-the-wisps like I’ve been doing on this research forever )
Anyway, it was warm and wet and India was crashing into Asia way faster than continents usually move (the collision created the most enormous and tall mountain range on the globe and India is STILL plowing into Asia at the same speed your fingernails grow)
Apes were just starting to become a thing, on their 45+ million year trajectory to produce Homo Sapiens. The world was full of wide shallow warm seas, and it was going to glaciate and chew them up until some of them were us. I’m just catching you up real quick
So, something like 16 million years ago orangutan prototypes split off from the simian group and started becoming their own thing. Around 13 million years ago Gorillas went their own way. We were dissipating as the great Tethys Sea disappeared.
Tumblr media
see how a bunch of Eurasia and Africa are underwater? That’s the Tethys Sea. Look at India hauling ass up Africa’s coast, like, NOBODY else even manages to change position. Personally, I think there were simians living along that very collision line and humans were directly born out of the resulting chaos, but that’s easily a whole other essay.
So around 8 million years ago the pre-chimpanzees left the family, and then around 5 million years ago, something interesting happens.
see, at that time the Mediterranean sea had dried up completely. I can’t remember for sure, but I think it was this loss of such a nearby source of humidity that destabilized Saharan Africa into cycles of desert and greenery.
Anyway, around 5 million years ago we begin to get a proliferation of promising proto human apes in Africa. I’m pretty sure we started walking and running through what had been jungle but was now savanna and grassland on it’s way to becoming desert for the first time. An early, bestial humanity. Like, the famous Lucy is about 3 million years old. Okay. And at some point around this time is when some of us discover things like fire and how to make decent stone tools. And by around 1 million years ago, we had the first being I would accept into the human family. late stage Homo Erectus, which has more lately been divided into sub classifications like Homo Heidelbergensis.
After first developing 2 million years ago Homo Erectus or their descendants have become basically people, the Homo of about a million years ago is upright, using fire and tools, possibly doing some art or ceremony, probably pretty hairless (I have a theory about our skin: mud bathing; look at every other wallowing creature, rhino, hippo, elephant, pig... anyway). Their brains are the same size as ours, their language centers are developing strongly (we can tell by taking impressions of the insides of their skulls, rather like rubbing a pencil over a note pad to see what was written last). These are a kind of people.
NOW. Things are starting to get a lot colder, and not just that, but the globe is going to start going into these huge slow swings of cold to hot and back, and those swings are going to split our sister species from the homo log like boards, and one of those planks will be us. Denisovan are going to split off right around 900 thousand years ago (or 900 kya) and the people who would turn into Neanderthal went their way somewhere around 400-500 kya.
There are a couple close relatives we’re still discovering, but between 100 kya and 300 kya you get this variance in the swing
Tumblr media
see where from 250 kya to 150 kya it doesn’t go AS cold OR AS warm, but it does squeeze like a mini extra cycle in there? That’s where we come from. Personally, I think we held the beach.
I think humans have been on volcaninc islands and colliding coasts since the first simians 50 million years ago. I think the very first humans that would become true homo sapiens were surviving in a niche of exposed continental shelves like Sundaland and Doggerland and off the East coast of Asia and the whole West side of India. Here, look
Tumblr media
see all that pale flat stuff around Florida and Mexico in the gulf? That’s continental shelf that would have been exposed prime real estate at the height of glaciations. And it’s huge, like the whole state of Florida is just a small portion of the shelf it’s on. Here look at this
Tumblr media
That’s China at the top and Australia at the bottom and aaaaallll that pale part in the ocean would have been a vast habitable zone called Sundaland.
And here, look at how much of Europe would have been out of the water
Tumblr media
That’s Doggerland. Sure SOME of it would have been covered by glaciers, but still, huge amount of land.
It would appear and disappear every 100 thousand years or so, but about 200 kya it sort of stuttered, and, I think, this is when humans held our beach, and came into our own. I mean, that’s about where we appear in time. I think Denisovans and Neanderthal and other sister species had to come way off the beach, and learn to live in the mountains and on the tundra and wherever each time the continental shelves flooded, but we got to stay, even though it was still very hard with a lot of flooding and changes. More chaos, essentially.
ANYWAY around 130 kya the last big glacier crunch started. I think a time that should have relieved pressure on inland populations of our sister species by opening new uninhabited territories was now just aiding a surviving competitor of theirs: us. We were already in those lands, and expanded right along with them. By 15 kya the shelves were at their largest and most developed, and about to flood catastrophically.
Okay, we’re almost caught up.
What my prehistorical fiction novel Stone Punk proposes is: What if our sister species were basically the fantasy races, the dwarves and elves and giants and things. Homo Sapiens at this time would be mostly wild tribes, fierce and smart and adaptable, often used as servants, workers, or soldiers (after all, our skeletal morphology shows all the classic signs of domestication).
And what if there were kingdoms in all those lowlands, and what if those kingdoms were connected by sea and exposed land bridges into a global empire. This empire had all the old secrets, knowledge of the stars and sea, math, commerce, some decent science for the time, agriculture, all kinds of things, and they were run from the grasslands of Sundaland.
There would be almost no evidence, it’s all 300 feet below sea level now.
Anyway, the plot of the book (series?) centers around the fact that the Toba supervolcano eruption around 70kya destabilized this empire. As the globe prepares to flood worse than ever before, our main characters are on a quest to regain the old secrets of the stars (and therefore complex hundred-thousand-year weather patterns) from the ruins of the empire’s golden age, on a quest that takes them from the Dwarf Families of the West to the River Elves of the South. From the Mercenary Tribes of the Middle Plains to the Mountain Wizards of the North East and even across the Rainbow Bridge (where the northern lights dance over the ice that grows and shrinks) to the hidden lands of the Far West.
They’re on an adventure to save the accumulated knowledge of all the kinds of humanity, and through it, themselves. And the outcome blends smoothly into our known history of the development of the first city states like Ur, run by god kings who were human but not human.
So now you’re caught up. I’m currently researching the effects of the Toba Eruption, more on that next time.

Hints
Shoot Through Creepy Castle Mirror
Go to creepy castle. Go to the room that chunky needs to open. When your walking you should see two mirrors. Take out your gun and put it through the mirror (it doesn’t matter which one you put it in) holz so you don’t move (if you want) and fire away. Do it rite the pineapple goes through do it wrong pineapple explodes on the mirror.
Use Guns
when you pick Donkey Kong or Diddy Kong, they both have their own guns. (Donkey: ”Shotgun”, Diddy: 2 Pistols) Now, how to do this? Press the Z button underneath the Controller Pad, then press C-Left. Note: Try using it in levels higher than the first level. If you want to aim with your gun(s), press C-Up. If you have the scope on and you want to hide your gun for now, press Z, and C-Left, and C-Down. If you do not have the scope on and hide the gun, just press C-Down, or any other button else except for button A, or C-Up.
King Cruel Platform
When you go to the place where you save diddy there will be a platform with king cruel on it. Beat all the beavers and when you get out of it the platform will dissapear.
Teleport
When you see a number platform (like 1 or 5) get on it and press trigger.
Turn It On First!
Under cover of night, Diddy climbs up to the top of the barn in Fungi Forest and slams a switch on the roof, opening a door. You walk in, and charge the up switch. If it doesn’t work, that’s because you have to turn it on first! Way up on the top there is a big switch that says “ON” look up, and shoot it with a peanut, then you can charge the switch and lift up the banana cage. Play the guitar on the pad that appears to get the banana.
Ice Maze Banana
In the Crystal Caves igloo, go through the Bongo Blast door with DK. There is an ice maze that revolves around, and if you touch the edges you’ll lose an entire melon. Impossible, right? Well, as soon as you walk in play the drums again, and the maze won’t move at all, making it very easy to get the banana.
Robot Crocodiles
If you have trouble beating the robots in frantic fractory, then all you have to do is wait for them to wind up, then hit then with an orange.
Go Inside DK Isle
IMPORTANT: USE CHUNKY KONG! Use the number 2 portal to go in front of the temple entrance. Run to your right and pick up a boulder. Walk over to the orange brick steps ear the bee. DROP (using Z) the boulder on the edge of the top step so that the boulder intersects with the first step and is on the second step. You have to do this next part quickly or the boulder wil blow up. Get on the second step and pick up the boulder while running towards the top step. Keep running while you pick up the boulder. You wil now only see part of Chunky’s head because his body is in the ground! Go forward until the wall of the mountain has a big dent in it on your right. Run through the dent. You are now inside DK Isle! if you go to the right spot you will fall into the water. You can now also go inside some other other smaller islands!
Jetpac Levels
The first level has asteroids. The second level has bouncing furballs. The third level has bubbles. The fourth level is where it starts to get hard theres jets that shoot out at you. The fifth level is VERY hard theres UFOs that will chase you and do not explode when hitting a wall. The sixth level is really easy compared to level 5 theres crosses that bounce of the walls.
Confused Toys
Go to frantic factory then go to the number 3 and press Z (the alligator toys must be chasing you). Make sure that you have both 3’s or this will not work.
K. Rool Doors
There are some doors that have pictures of items in the last level to get to K. Rool, .To past them, you need those items. The first door has a picture of four Battle Crowns and the next door has a picture of the Rareware and Nintendo coins. You cannot ignore the Donkey Kong and Jetpac games. They must be completed to get the coins to open that door.
Secret Area In Multi Player Mode
Go into multi-player mode in monkey smash, choose the area with the big tree in the middle. Go to the moat and swim against the side till your head is the wall. Keep swimming until you go through the wall, then press C up. You should be swimming underneath the ground.
Hidden Passages
If you go to the two player mode and choose monkey smash, (the one with the giant tree in the middle) go up to all the walls and you should find that you can go through walls at jungle japes and frantic factory. It’s a great way to beat your friends while playing because they won’t ever know where you are.
“Frantic Factory Boss” Arena
Start playing the “Frantic Factory Boss” and you will end up on a platform, while on it back up until the tip of it and run until you are really close to the other side then press Z+B. When you reach the bottom of the arena you can walk every where you want. If you want back up just walk near the towers and there will be a platform. It may take a couple of tryes to get the timing.
Instant Stop While Swimming
While you are swimming above or below the press C-up.
Fall Without Getting Hurt
When you are about to fall of a high object press C-Up.
Accurate Orange Throw
Take out your Kong’s weapon and activate the aiming feature. Line up the intended target and throw the orange as normal.
Take Small Tiny Anywhere In Frantic Factory
Make your kong Tiny and have unlimited crystal coconuts. Go into the room with the DK Arcade and go into the Tiny barrel to become small and go to the top of the boxes on top of the desk. You should be in front of the tunnel. Jump to the desk in the middle of the area. There is a 5 banana port pad on top of the desk. Use the 5 banana port pad to go to Funky’s area. There are 4 tricks you can do:
1. Go to the DK Arcade room and go through the small tunnel and the gate will open at the other side. Jump out and change back to normal Tiny then do a high jump. You will be inside the tunnel! Then take your feather bow out and shoot into the tunnel (not in first person view). Your feathers will go into the pipe (only a short distance)!2. Do the same thing as number 1 but stand at the edge of the tunnel (the exit). Now get your feather bow out and if you got sniper mode from Funky at Spooky Castle, look closer at the window and shoot. Your shots will disappear! The window is black instead of see-through!3. Go into Chunky's area and go to the bouncing watermelon box. Go under the watermelon box and you will be inside it! Do a high jump when it is off the ground and you will do a very high jump!4. Go to any pole and climb it. You will be climbing super fast! At the top of the highest one jump down (but don't hang on to the pole). You will be falling a very long time (try doing a simian slam at the top)!
Get To Other Levels Without Required Bananas
NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE LANKEY FOR THIS TIP! Go to any level you dont have enough bananas for. Ignore the gaurds rambling nonsense and go to the side of him. Look at the blue potal thing then punch his hand. He will hit it and you will enter the level. This may take a few tries but it works.
Get The Cheat Menu
Find and photograph all twenty fairies with the camera to unlock the Cheat Mode option at the “Mystery Menu”. This allows unlimited items during a game.
Barrel On The Isle
Go to the Fungi Forest Level entry and get Diddy jetpac. Then fly to the top of the DK moutain and you will see a barrel. Go inside of it.
Defeating K. Rool
After collecting the Rare Ware coin, Nintendo coin, and 100 golden bananas; freeing K. Lumsy; and completed Hideout Helm, you will get access to the final battle with K. Rool. You have to fight in a boxing ring and hit K. Rool four times with each Kong, with round times of three minutes. If you lose any of these rounds, you have to start over at Donkey. DonkeyWith Donkey, K. Rool will jump up and slam the ground, causing shock waves, like Kasplat. Four barrels will appear. Jump into one of them and fire at K. Rool when he lifts his arm and yells "Thank You" to the audience. Do this four times. DiddyWith Diddy, K. Rool will throw his boxing glove. This is hard to avoid on the ground, but easy once you have got into the Rocket Barrel. Once in the Rocket Barrel, fire peanuts at the targets on the four lights at the top of the ring. Hit him with all four lights. LankyWith Lanky, K. Rool will have a light fixture stuck on his head. All he can do is run around the ring. Four numbered switches will appear outside the ring. Run to where you can get a clear shot, then press B to push in the number. A barrel will appear next to Lanky outside the ring. Press B to pick it up, then throw it into the middle of the ring. A giant banana peel will appear out of the barrel. Four trombone pads will appear on the ground in the ring. Stand on a trombone, then wait until K. Rool is a straight line away from you. Play the trombone, then K. Rool will run at you from where he is standing. If your timing is good, he will trip on the banana peel. Do this four times. TinyWith Tiny, K. Rool will pound the ground as he did with Donkey. Wait until he pounds the ground a few times, then he will start yelling in pain. A barrel will appear. Turn small, then run into the hole in his left shoe. Inside, you will have your feather bow. His toes will attack in patterns. Watch them and when one wiggles, it is going to attack. When a toe rises, fire the crossbow at it. Once you hit it enough times, it will turn red. Get into his shoe and make all four toes red. ChunkyThis is the last battle and is a little more complicated than the rest. K. Rool will turn invisible and bounce from rope to rope, but you will still see his shadow. Hit the switch and four Chunky pads will appear. Press Z on one to become invisible, then jump into the barrel to become big Chunky. You have to have very good timing to do this. The first two times K. Rool will just run at you. Primate Punch him (hold Z and press B) just as he approaches, and you will hit him. The third time, he will be invisible. Primate Punch him again. The fourth time, he will be invisible and swerve back and forth. If you hit him, you win.

Once the timer runs out, you will receive a crown and have ability to play two multi-player games (a third-person death match-like game, and a multi-player version of the Battle Arena).
