I just really needed to put out my feelings regarding Addison at the moment. She is a character who got me through some extremely hard times and the fact she's so sad at the moment is breaking me. Even worse, after watching last weeks episode/this weeks trailer I'm frightened she's not going to pull through. We have not seen Addison seriously hurt before and it's really playing on my emotions because I don't know how I'm going to feel if they kill her off. She doesn't deserve it.

It's funny how life works out sometimes, Meredith muses as she's standing in the kitchen of the home she once shared with her late husband, putting away ice cream toppings while said late husband’s ex-wife loads the dishwasher – despite Meredith insisting that as her guest, Addison absolutely didn't have to do that. Her kids are asleep, Amelia went to bed early because she has an early shift tomorrow, so it's just her and Addison moving wordlessly through the kitchen until everything has been put away and the countertops look semi-presentable again. At least until breakfast tomorrow morning.

“Wine?” Meredith asks once they're done, holding out a random bottle of red she picked from the rack. Addison smiles, and it sends waves of butterflies flying through her abdomen.

“Yes please.”

And it's just the right bit of insane, sitting here on her porch with Addison Forbes Montgomery of all people, wordlessly reminiscing about the past, to suddenly make Meredith realise that she doesn't just like the woman, she doesn't just want to be colleagues, friends, whatever else has been growing between them over the past decades, no. They've both lost so much; Meredith lost her husband but Addison lost him too, and Mark, and so many others are gone but they're here, she's here, the one consistent factor in Meredith’s life ever since she came walking into Seattle Grace with immaculate red curls and a shit-eating grin on her face and–

Addison was lying on her hotel bed, a medical study in hand. Her glasses, her standard red pair (and favorite ones too) rested on the lower curve of her nose. She had been MIA on all personal affairs around Naomi Bennett (her best friend) and her personal life. But she’d gotten the alert when the publication of Naomi’s new study came out. Two things had come to mind: first that she had to be up to date with all new medical developments in her field, and second that it might be a chance for them to kindred the broken relationship again.

There had been an argument long before Derek’s betrayal, somewhere in between him being the perfect husband and pulling away from Addison. The argument had nothing to do with Derek whatsoever, things just had been sour between Addison and Naomi ever since the latter moved on to California. She constantly accused Addison of not keeping up with their friendship and neglecting her role as Maya’s godmother.

Addison didn’t. She was a good godmother, she sent gifts and made phone calls over to Maya. She had a great relationship with her since she was a little girl. Now, with her growing up into her teens, they still exchanged texts and Maya gave Addison the occasional calls to ask Addison things she wasn’t comfortable asking her judgemental mother.

Naomi had always been that way—judgmental that is, and sometimes it tired Addison. Sometimes she needed her distance. Which was what happened to them the last time around. It wasn’t as if they didn’t talk at all . They had exchanged Christmas cards and some texts here and there. But it was still eggshells and Addison hadn’t made the effort to relink either. Naomi had called her selfish and that had stung. She didn’t think of herself as not-selfish , but the pointing fingers had been completely uncalled for. So now maybe she was indeed being a little selfish and keeping her distance. Addison had more to deal with than her friend who wanted her undivided attention. She had a broken marriage, building a new life and well… She had her family to deal with too.

The hotel landline rang, bringing a frown to Addison’s forehead, not expecting any visitors. She’d made acquaintances in Seattle for the past month (aside from her affair in the new city) with other attendings and even some residents like Dr. Torres and Miranda Bailey, who turned out to be surprisingly nice (in her own way). The frontdesk told her there was a woman downstairs that was asking for her at the bar and Addison couldn’t help but wonder who knew of her whereabouts.

Meredith would have called ahead or simply made her way straight to her room, as they had slowly come to terms with the fact that whatever they were doing was a regular habit. But she also knew Meredith was on call, so it couldn’t have been her.

She thanked the front desk and hopped on some clothes, as she’d been lounging on the hotel robe. Her hair was unraveled from the shower she’d taken, too. But she didn’t think it could be anyone that important that she needed to fully gather herself. So Addison walked into the hotel bar wearing sweatpants and her Yale hoodie, and as soon as she spotted the bar, her heart skipped a beat. There, standing in front of her, was the one and only Bizzy Montgomery, looking as immaculate as ever in a designer suit and matching heels.

Addison mused the thought of turning around and hiding away in her hotel room, but like magnets, Bizzy’s eyes landed on her and she couldn’t escape the need to justify or fix the disapproval that settled on her expression. There was no escaping now, so Addison walked up to her, dreadfully, and shoved her hands on the hoodie’s pockets.

"Bizzy," Addison said, a hint of surprise and annoyance. "What are you doing here?"
