i use waifu2x to up the quality, not always neccessary but it makes everything a bit easier and prettier. i use firealpaca to edit but you can use whatever you like, im not your mom

try to find one at a similar angle to your blorbo picture and paste it/open as a layer. look this is close enough ↓

in case you prefer just one pair of ears. you have to understand the style so you can imitate it.... so look at their hair, maybe theres more colors or gradients than you can see at a glance or something ! i colorpick a bunch of them and put them over their ears, then blend them together with a low opacity watercolor brush

ALSO, notice the.. lighter glowy aura thing around his ear in the og? i try to imitate details like that too, used watercolor for this again

now maybe you wanna make it look like theres something covering that spot, since theres kinda nothing there now. soo if that looks weird to you, (open a new layer and) put some hair over it. i cant tell u how to imitate Any style so just. study it and keep trying

with enstars here the lines are pretty soft, so i go over it with watercolor brush after doing the general shape. with a higher opacity you could probably just use a softer brush from the start, i just like starting with the basic pen

nowww i lower the blorbos opacity to around 50%, bring the reference somewhere i can see and just kinda... start sketching. lot of redrawing and transform tooling here sometimes

TIPS 1. you can clean the lines up at the end so dont stress

2. think of your blorbos new ears as a real tangible part of their body and how they fit on their head since you dont wanna make it look too flat !

3. and for the placement i always end up at roughly one human ear length above their og ears if that makes sense. tried to visualize it

as for inner ear fluffs phew i dont know either. draw a circle and start from there? maybe there are actual animal ears in blorbo artstyle out there you could reference

finally some progress huh. i color the lines in a contrasting color first so i see the lines properly and dont miss anything, then fill it in with the actual color :3 OH and for gradients i just use the airbrush at the ear tips or sides

noww shading! new layer, basic pen brush and try to follow the shapes in the og art. it's best if you pick the colors from the actual picture!!! take notes mentally and just do your best i dont know how to explain this more

taking this as an example, the shading is mostly in pretty simple wider areas, so not a lot of seperate strands in there. and its again pretty soft around the edges of shades and highlights, so i'll go over it with my beloved watercolor. keep things like that in mind so the creaturing blends in well :3

if you like more detail better you can still go with that. or less detail on a complex artstyle. the world is your oyster

what else could there be???? making the lineart more cohesive for example ★ oftentimes it's not one solid color, thicker or thinner than yours, things like that.

for things like piercings or fangs you can just draw them on top i believe in you <3 if its like an intricate earring use the lasso? magic wand? the one that lets you select an area to copy and move on top of your ear layers

+ remember details like shadows, if you put a tail on top of say blorbos leg there's gonna be a shadow under it! put a layer under the tail ones and freehand draw the shadow, OR copy the tail layer, put the copy under the og one and change color/opacity until it fits

I got this SUPER COOL IDEA what about a Zim and dib(separately pls) with a s/o who's also an alien, but is basically an inkling from Splatoon? (Same abilities, underwater gibberish language but eventually learned English but still kinda sounds underwater, tentacle hair, the eye mask, Three Large fangs resembling a squid beak, the inside of their mouth and their fingertips match their ink color, elf like ears,the fact they have no bones and can change tentacle color at will because inklings can change their ink color at will, swim/squid form, being able to use ink as a weapon through fancy water guns, water hurts them(water melts them because most of their body is made up of ink) I'm hyperfixating on both Splatoon and Invader Zim!

★ He tried to learn your language but it never really stuck, it all sounds like gibberish to him and he just can't wrap his big head around it. Does think it sounds funny, though!

★ After meeting you he starts to take more interest in biology and specifically sea life to try and better understand you. Professor Membrane doesn't fully understand his son's newfound interest but he does think you're a good influence on him because of it.

Reading Sarah Waters feels like gliding softly through a gentle stream of thoughts and feelings and even though her style is slow and thus her chapters are really lengthy, the book goes by surprisingly quickly. At first, I was a little disappointed because the "ghostly" aspect which had first attracted me to the story seemed to be just background noise to a family drama (though an intriguing one), but the second half of the book more than made up for that. in fact, there were moments when I had to opt for reading only during the day (but I am a scaredy cat so if you are a horror-lover, you might not feel the same).

Braiding Sweetgrass

Author: Robin Wall Kimmerer

This is, in fact, an extremely sad book, because it shows us just a sliver of all the wisdom that has been lost as the Native Americans were driven from their land and systematically killed by European settlers. It points out our tragic and willful blindness to nature and the fact the exploitation of it will soon tip toward a complete catastrophe (if it has not already). But it is also a book that offers comfort, takes you into the woods and to the marshes, and shows you wild and wonderous things that are worth protecting. There were several instances where the beauty of the language and the message delivered drew tears into my eyes. I would not recommend reading the whole book all at once, but rather take it chapter by chapter when you need to relax and think.

I only managed to read this because I actually listened to it as an audiobook and I only managed to listen to it because Everand has cut me off from every single other book to listen to (if you know, you know). The story of the book is much more interesting than the book itself. The main character is a lowly maid who has made her virginity her entire personality as well as recording every single praise that is paid her, the main male is an entitled would-be-rapist and actual kidnapper who is not above hiding in closets and cross-dressing to get under Pamela´s petticoats. Had the book been taken more as a comedy and shorter by at least 300 pages, it might have fared better in my view. This is one classic you can skip and be happy about it.

Reminded me of Where the Crawdads Sing in that sense. Generous three stars (for now).

The Warm Hands of Ghosts

Author: Katherine Arden

Katherine Arden has a unique gift of weaving together reality and myth (or in this case the supernatural) in a way that is very believable as well as lyrical. As if there was no question whether or not ghosts and apparitions were an indisputable part of our world. But the readers should be aware that The Warm Hands of Ghosts is, above all other things, a study and portrait of the terror of war, of what it does to those thrust into it, and poses a question if it is possible to ever go back. In this, it is far from being the only one or overtly original, but I appreciate the fact that many who would shy away from All Quiet on the Western Front or similar books might easily be attracted by it and learn something. I think the book may have been slightly more impactful had it been strictly divided into a Part 1 dedicated solely to Laura, up until the point of somebody significant coming to her in the hospital and only then introducing Part 2, in which we would learn about Freddie and his experiences, only then mingling the two. I read it in a mere 2 days, which also speaks to how much I felt entrenched in the story. I am giving it 4 stars right now, because of all the analyzing, but there is a great chance I will bump up the rating later in the year if the book proves to be one of those I keep thinking about despite their imperfections.

NAME: Undys

RARITY: ★★★★☆

THREAT LEVEL: ★★★☆☆ | Typically take a few victims before being discovered, but their feeding is easy to avoid and constrained within an area.

HABITAT: Always found buried below ground. Sometimes this is just in the dirt while other times they might be snug in a coffin.

DESCRIPTION: The first sign of an undys nearby is often several deaths near a burial ground, drained of blood with bites on the necks of the victims, and no sign of any other violence. These strange vampires strike from below the ground, lying comfortably where they were buried as they telepathically feed from those who wander too close. Undys never make any effort to claw themselves out of the earth, and have stayed underground since their burial. As such, few people know what undys look like, and slayers usually have only a few sketches to study when first learning about these vampires. They’re small vampires, looking like skeletal corpses with large heads and relatively small, non-threatening fangs. It’s thought that if undys were removed from their resting place, they wouldn’t even be able to stand upright due to their scrawny bodies and disproportionate heads. 

Undys seem to be incredibly solitary vampires, and they don’t attempt to forge any telepathic connection with people or other vampires. Their intelligence is unclear but most suspect all undys are capable of is lying there and feeding. Someone becoming an undys after death seems to be almost random, but as far as anyone can tell, it does not involve being bit by or fed from one. Some slayers are attempting to figure this mystery out.

ABILITIES: The bite wounds left by undys are every bit as real as a bite mark left by a vampire in a physical manner. Similarly, undys are able to drain the blood from the wound even without being physically present. This can be alarming for onlookers to watch, as they see the bite appear as if by some invisible presence. Some slayers speculate that this ability, found in these very ancient vampires, is a sort of “proto-telepathy” that’s often used by higher vampires today. Undys are able to feed from people who are anywhere within the same cemetery they’re buried in – or, if buried somewhere unmarked, the general area. They can feed rapidly, meaning that there isn’t necessarily safety in numbers, as the undys will simply move from one victim to the other, sucking each dry. Undys seem to be able to lie in wait forever, not truly needing to feed to keep themselves around – perhaps merely delighting in it.

WEAKNESS: Because of the logistical challenges of locating an undys, slayers are a near necessity. However, often undys are just allowed to exist because of the hassle and lack of information about them. Slayers can locate where the undys is buried using their senses, allowing for the vampire to be interred (maybe after disturbing a few other vampires in the process). They must be careful, as they’re not immune from being fed on. Killing an undys is straightforward once it’s in front of you – stake the vampire through the heart. Most people don’t even bother removing the vampire from the coffin or where it lies, since they pose no physical threat. Undys do have an aversion to garlic, and though it’s not a failsafe, wearing garlic around your neck will make you less appetizing to undys – they’ll at least hold off a bit from feeding on you. Additionally, the gates of the cemetery act as a precipice undys cannot feed beyond, meaning there is a clear route of escape if needed.
