If true love's kiss can wake you from The Deadlights and love declarations can save you from Pennywise's madness, then it stands to reason that re-carving initials into the Kissing Bridge after defeating It--the culmination of a long-standing true-love-since-they-were-kids story--summons enough Uncle Stevie turtle magic to save an only mostly dead Eddie Kaspbrak.

Also includes references to vintage Return of the Jedi valentines, Bryan Adams lyrics, Pound Puppies, and, of course, a Street Fighter tee shirt that is available at Macy's, not Target, but artistic license.

All of King's Maine canon exists here. I slipped in some references to Castle Rock and Desperation/The Regulators because I like them so much.

Trashmouth For Sale, Gently Used

“Richie is an award winning comedian and voice actor, originally from Derry, Maine. He’s a six-foot-two Pisces, and in case dinner goes very badly- CPR certified,” the auctioneer recites joylessly, while Richie is in stitches at her side. “Richie enjoys long walks on the beach, 1-800 number jingles, and debating the civil rights of robots. You can select any venue in New York for your dinner, but Richie says he especially enjoys Thai food and frozen custard and describes himself as a bottomless pit-”

Richie taps the auctioneer's shoulder and leans into the mic. “That’s a typo. That should say just ‘bottom’.”

While Richie gets roped into a bachelor auction, Eddie struggles with his own worth.

Richie’s not sure what he expects when Eddie calls on the night of December 24th, but it’s certainly not for Eddie to immediately demand, “What are you doing for Christmas tomorrow?”

“Uh, hi,” Richie says pointedly.

“Dickhead,” Eddie replies.

Eddie looks determined.

“I don’t know who I am. I thought you might be able to help me,” he holds up the jacket and Richie’s heart stops. “Are you Richie Tozier?”

It’s probably the scotch at 2pm, or maybe that he skipped his usual Captain Crunch break in favor of a morning cry session because it is Thursday after all, or maybe that the love of his life is back from the dead and doesn’t know who he is, but Richie doesn’t have time to figure out exactly what makes him feel so lightheaded before his body gives up and pitches head-first into the hallway floor.

the fireworks that go off when you smile

Eddie seems in better spirits than before, and he gets some of the playful gleam back in his eyes after a few minutes, shoving Richie off the dock and into the water while laughing loudly. Richie comes up for air, water dripping all over his glasses, and the sight of Eddie’s head thrown back with laughter is enough to make him feel like he’s still below the surface, losing all his breath.

“Can you be at the airport in like, eight hours?” Eddie asks, apropos of nothing.

Richie breathes out a short laugh. “Um, what?”

“The airport, idiot, can you be there? I mean, I could, like, Uber to your apartment…house? Do you live in an apartment or a house? Fuck, why haven’t we talked about this before now, I don’t know anything about LA… Anyways, yeah, eight hours, can you do it?” Eddie is rambling, and Richie would be comforted by the familiarity if he had any idea what the fuck was going on.

OR: Eddie comes to LA, and Richie is in love with him.

Eddie didn’t want it to be about him for fucking once. He’d been poked and prodded and helped and supported, and Richie had held cups to his mouth in those earlier days when even lifting his arms seemed impossible, and now he just wanted to do something, and not have it done to him.

And fuck if he hadn’t been waiting long enough for Richie. Not just Richie, for the time when he could say, I want to jump this guy, and be okay with that; and this guy was Richie, and the time was now, and they were doing this, Goddamn it.

Reintroducing the Hometown Favorite

Eddie had a livid scar on his cheek, the kind of scar he would have now, five months after Derry, if he hadn't died there in the refuse and the dark and the hate.

"I wish you were real," Richie blurted.

Eddie looked at him. His hand stilled on top of Richie's head. Tears picked at the corners of Richie's eyes again. Then Eddie slammed the side of his hand down on the center of Richie's forehead.

"Mommy," Eddie rasped, shivering all over. "I’m scared."

"That's why you have to take your pills." His mother’s smile wobbled on its axis, churning his stomach. "Do you understand? I lied, but it was to keep you safe. To keep everyone safe."

Safe from you.

Her fingers curled under Eddie's chin, tilting his face up to meet hers. "You want to be a good boy, don't you?"

The thought of hurting anyone, especially his friends, was unbearable. His tears slid over her thumb as he nodded, fervently.

Now What I’m Gonna Say May Sound Indelicate

Eddie Kaspbrak has lived his whole life being told that he's delicate, and he's not. And nearly bleeding out in an alien fear demon's lair has helped him realize that--as well as what he can live through. It puts his priorities in some perspective.

There’s a brief pause, and Eddie’s voice is unmistakably fond when he says, “Merry Christmas, Richie.”

After they hang up, Richie lies in bed for a few minutes, his phone resting against his chest. He’s equal parts warm and distressed by Eddie’s phone call, and the fantasy girlfriend he’s conjured up for Eddie in his mind. “Whatever,” he tells himself out loud. It doesn’t matter, not really — all he really wants is for Eddie to be happy, and he’d sounded happy on the phone, no matter what the reason. That’s enough.

Before everyone leaves Derry for the last time, Richie tells them about the guy he's dating back home in Los Angeles. Eddie feels extremely weird about it and he can't figure out why, because it's definitely not because he's jealous. Obviously it's not that.

“So does somebody want to say something?” Eddie asked, still breathing, still fucking breathing and alive and not dripping his Goddamn organs out of his chest.

Richie snorted. “Yeah, because we fucking dominate.”

“You don’t even,” Bill pointed out. “You always g-g-et way more tangled than you n-n-need and fall over each other.”

Eddie sniffed. “Do not.”
