"reblog from the source" trend. i understand people have decided this is etiquette. respect that it's how people want to run their blogs and live their lives/manage their mental health/etc etc however ........... it's an arduous thing i am not prepared to do for people (it's in my rules!) and i don't expect them to do it for me. it makes no difference whatsoever to me if people reblog memes directly from me or not. i slightly prefer them to so i am able to write with them. i certainly prefer it over watching them rb it from the source immediately after i posted it, man. i want to know my friends are enjoying things and having fun and had as much oh!! about a meme as i did, and an opportunity to send them the meme if they did not send it to me/couldn't find one that fit/didn't have the energy to look that day, but. i am aware im in the minority

// *can i include the fad of "making a roleplay blog for a character bc of movie hype and only lasting barely two or three months, then letting it rot and collect dust until something revives it again"? i dont know if that counts, but that is something that genuinely irks me. not just because of life, but they only write that character because of the hype for a movie or a tv series.

// *i guess i can also include some weirdly specific DNI trends ive noticed, like faceclaim bans (specifically when they associate an actor with the character and assume they're the same), fandom DNIs, and other weird obscure titles. i often smell a "guilt by association" kind of assumptions when people make FULL DNIs with fandoms of shows that have shitty creators and associate that shittiness with the fans. not everyone acts the same and people learn to separate the art from the artist.

Not really a hate towards those who do this. But over-fancified IC posts can be quite overwhelming sometimes. I can tolerate some who use edited or drawn graphics in their posts, like bordered icons and simple banners for asks and IC threads.

But using big fancy banners or overuse of text color in a single word in every reply feels a bit too much.

// Reblog karma. I do mean within reason. Obviously, if someone is just going through the meme tag and blowing up the person's notifications stealing everything, that's annoying. But, I will never understand the concept of getting upset when something isn't received just because someone took the meme from you. o_o Sometimes, the original poster OF the meme deactivated their blog, so at that point, reblogging from the source is, quite literally, impossible. I dunno, people put too much energy into that whole thing. I reblog from source when I can, but I'm not gonna get pissy if someone reblogs a meme list from me and doesn't send anything in.

It's really not that big of a deal unless it's the scenario I wrote above.

Salty AF Munday Meme ♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise?

Trying to keep this as far from vague blogging as I can, so I guess someone dropping everything and basically cutting all contact over a small, silly (in my opinion) reason. It just seemed like such a drastic reaction. Especially when it probably could have been resolved with just a bit of communication.

☢ What fads/trends are you so over?

I can't really think of any so we're gonna get suuuuper nitpicky: using bright, hard to read colours in replies. Again, me being super nitpicky. I don't really have that much of a problem with it, and I even use colours in some of my own replies with the Moon Goons to differentiate between individual voices in their head. So if you do it in your writing, please don't think I have an actual problem with it or feel like you need to change anything in replies to me. If it was really an issue, I wouldn't have followed you in the first place. It's more...the colour options that Tumblr provides, I guess. They're very bright and can just be A Lot on the eyes sometimes. I know a lot of people out there aren't familiar with coding and don't feel comfortable, or just plain old don't feel like, going into the HTML of a reply and adding a more toned-down version of the colour instead, and that's totally fine. You do you, I've got no issues with that. So less of a fad/trend that I'm over and more of the way Tumblr allows you to go about it, I guess? I really hope that makes sense. Seriously not trying to hate on how people write their replies, or anything like that.

❥ Has someone ever ruined an FC or character for you?

Short answer: no. Slightly longer answer: there are some FCs and character types that I'm ehhhhh about, but it's not because of any particular person or experience, it's just a me thing.

Making a new blog every week? Reblogging positivity posts and begging for compliments while answering nothing? Constantly using twinks and people under 35 as face claims and having zero age variety at all amongst muses? Picking a new face claim for a canon character which completely sucks and has no vibe at all but is currently 'popular'? Do these count as fads? XD

Well, here's another thing- being ignored for ships. This is a thing that has happened too many times to count. I've had multiple people follow me in the past and either instantly unfollow or completely ignore me after I politely declined their suggestions for an instant ship.

Threads that aren't ship based languish in drafts or never get answered. And while I respect that most of the RPC is into instant shipping, I need more than muses exchanging two words or breathing in the same room and I'm not sorry for that :p but I DO think it sucks to infinity that other types of relationships are always always always bottom of the pile next to romance (and smut).

My understanding of reblog karma is this: if you see me share a meme and don't want to send me anything, you reblog it from the source. If you do send me a thing, you can reblog it from me, whatever.

I agree with this, because it's infuriating, annoying and honestly disheartening to be used as a meme source when mutuals aren't sending in memes. I don't expect anyone to be obligated to send me a meme, that would be forced interaction.

But if you're gonna take a meme for yourself on the regular and never send something in, that's rude in my book and makes me lose inspiration to be here real fast. It also kills my desire to write with said person because? You're never sending things but constantly expect to be sent stuff yourself? Hmmmm. Interesting.

It's hard to point to just one thing bc I'm not very up to date on them, but I'll say this: when the same joke is overplayed in the rpc or the fandom at large, I get extremely bored and intolerant of it real quick lol; everyone have fun, but I'll also have fun in my own ways, too

For example, on my first rp blog here on tumblr, I eventually had to institute a rule that anons stop sending a particular joke/rp action to my blog because it was spamming my inbox and clogging up my notifications.

Oh, in a similar vein, another one is when villains aren't treated with respect simply because someone wants to be funny or edgy (the above instance happened to a villain I was writing). I get that not every character is gonna be afraid of every villain they meet, but some villains are not going to tolerate that, and assuming that your muse gets a free pass to be a dick to them is a one-way street to the villain lashing out accordingly, and then no one is having a good time. Writing a flawed or villainous character does not mean that muses can get away with doing whatever they want to that character without in-story consequences, y'know?

Warning beforehand, if this applies to anyone listening to my recording or reading this text. Don't take it personally, I'm not stopping anyone from enjoying their role-play experience in their own way. I'm not about to mass unfollow or ignore people who use small icons or colorful font, it's just my own personal bias. And yes this is about both of those things.

So yeah, anyway I don't get why super teeny weenie icons are still popping. I don't get the point and I don't wanna hear they look good. Nah, that shit ugly it looks deep fried not even the good kind but the BURNT kind, the "you used too much flour and oil" kind. You can't even see the expression the character is supposed to be making half the time. Just go icon-less.

Next is colored text, if you like it that's great and I won't stop you, if that makes you happy and puts you in the zone I actually encourage it. Nonetheless, as someone with photosensitivity issues already I try not to squint so much. So if you do use colorful fonts I will already state what I have to do. I just copy and paste all of that into a word doc and then after that, I reply back which feels inconvenient but hey it is what is.

AGAIN this isn't shitting and saying stop doing something, because if I had an issue I would DM about it. These are very small things I can tolerate but don't personally understand or care about so I hope I didn't hurt someone's feelings.

What fads/trends are you so over? Now listen. Most of the time, I'm all for wearing something that's pretty even if it's uncomfortable. But the fashion over function when it comes to pages and themes, people need to calm down and think about accessibility. Carrds have tiny text or is only formatted for desktop and doesn't have the disclaimer, the navigation is unclear, it's all flat and monochrome and hard to read, there are pictures and animations everywhere so it's like what the fuck am I supposed to look at. I get it you want it to be aesthetic, but dude. My guy. I don't wanna go to your carrd, click enter, click muses, click canon/oc, click their name, and finally get to something to read, and it's not even a good description of who they are. It's very graphic design is my passion and it becomes an endurance test just to figure out if I think we can vibe or not.

god yes. some very canon characters too that i am trying my hardest to not associate with the peeople because i very much love the characters. i won't drop chracter names cause i am not about that vague/call out shit. i've had a few fcs ruined but i try to push past it, again, cause i want to give everyone a fair chance/love

// *god, there's so many i could think of, but im not even sure these could count as trends. one thing i've noticed over the years (and i saw @spxnglr talk about this) is the "unfollowing after a certain period of time" trend in guidelines. a majority of people who actively write in the RPC are casual and sometimes go on hiatuses! hell, a few friends i've had recently came back in the last year or so due to life situations.

// *life comes first for people. the idea of unfollowing, even when there's a connection made there? it doesn't sit right with me. at the end of the day, you make friends on here that you'll end up remembering. and you end up unfollowing because they have yet to interact with you.

;; uh... that's a lil hard. Idk, maybe inaccessible graphics or formatting? I haven't seen it a lot in my circle but I have seen folks who go crazy with tiny text and colors and underlining, plus an itty bitty over-pixelated and crunchy icon. Sure it's pleasing, but it hurts my eyes and just makes me assume the person doesn't actually care about writing- they just like the flowery aesthetics.

;; I have a couple stories, but they happened like a couple years ago so I'm over it. I have had someone write their muse outright malicious and abusive despite me raising concerns. I know you're entitled to writing villains, but if someone wants to change the thread to lighten it up a little, maybe don't be passive aggressive back and ghost me?

The other person had a whole thing with venting to me constantly and I expressed a boundary since I was also dealing with stressful college stuff and couldn't also play therapist- esp. since they were talking shit about one of my mutuals who had blocked them. I told the admins of our group I was uncomfortable and anxious over the situation, only to find out that one of the admins had RAGED to our shared friend about how "ableist" I was for setting a boundary just bc the upset person was autistic supposedly. The admin also was saying I was a pervert for sending in nsfw hc asks to their blog? Like? If you don't want my asks you can tell me or just delete them, I would have known that was a boundary and backed off.

Either way, none of these people are my mutuals and I left the server group. All is well. The lesson here, kids, is setting boundaries is healthy even if the other party blows up behind your back about it.

// The constant guilt trippers, oh my gosh. Listen, I get being disappointed, feeling left out, feeling neglected, feeling doubtful of your own portrayal... we all go through it. However, vague posting, guilt tripping, and constantly venting on the dash about it to your RP partners isn't going to make it any better. Especially with a passive aggressive approach; you're shooting yourself in the foot. Take a step back, breathe, take a break, and come back. There are ways to say 'hey, I feel left out and would love some interactions' without acting like a pissy, entitledchild. We do not owe anyone anything on here except basic respect!

☢ What fads/trends are you so over?

I give the same answer everytime, but those tiny ass, 30x30 px, over fried icons that nobody can see. :I If I gotta squint (and I'd like to think my eyesight is very, VERY good), somethin' ain't right.

✂ A fandom that you feel isn’t open and accepting?

Not many fall into this category, but the only one I can think of that kinda... left a bitter taste in my mouth was the Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom. So much drama, so many cliques... too much duplicate anxiety, vague posting, the whole nine yards. When my Seto Kaiba had his own blog, it sometimes felt like I was going to step on a landmine just from logging in. Making a multi-muse and kind of... disconnecting from that was the best decision ever.
