Japanese Lesson 87

Today,I'm gonna recommend really useful words which is used by a lot of Japanese people.

That is “遊ぶ”.

①Explanation

Spending enjoyable time with close friends is called "遊ぶ".

What exactly you do is not important to use ”遊ぶ“.

You can express anything like , “go to a friend’s house” and “play games” , “have a coffee” , “go shopping” , “play baseball” , “go to karaoke” , ”hang out with partner” and so on.

You can use ”遊ぶ” all the time when it is bother to express what specifically you do.

②Example

1. 母さん遊びに行ってくるわー。

（かあさん　あそびに　いってくるわー。）

Mom! I'm gonna hang out.

2. 会話

A: 昨日何してたん？

　 (きのう　なに　してたん)

　　What did you do yesterday?

B: 昨日は愛美と遊んだよ。

　（きのうは　まなみ　と　あそんだよ。）

　　I had lunch with Manami and went to a park and played tennis.

3.明��遊びに行こうぜ。

（あした　あそびに　いこうぜ。）

　Wanna hang out tomorrow?

　＊In this case, you haven't decided what you want to do tomorrow yet.

2025/01/26 夕暮れを見に

久しく海を歩いていない。休みの日があまり自由ではないこの頃。日没前後にやることもなく一人になれた時間があった。その場所から一番近い海岸に向かい沈む夕陽とそれからの空と海を見ていた。風が強くて寒かったけれど、天気も良かったせいか空と海は美しかった。

薄暗くなっても釣り人が何人か海に入り釣りに興じていた。寒いだろうに、好きってすごい。

歯を磨く　「はをみがく」 “to brush one’s teeth” (lit. “to polish teeth”)

歯磨き粉　「はみがきこ」 “toothpaste”

歯ブラシ “toothbrush”

汚れる　「よごれる」 “to get dirty”

濡れる　「ぬれる」 “to get wet”

お客さん　「おきゃくさん」 “guest”

奥さん　「おくさん」 “wife”

乾く　「かわく」 “to get dry”

起きる　「おきる」 “to be awake,” “to waken up”

起こす　「おこす」 “to waken up”

Example phrases:

歯を磨きませんでしたから、朝ご飯を食べられません “I can’t eat breakfast because I didn’t brush my teeth”

奥さんを起こしたいです “I don’t want to wake up my wife”

娘さんが僕のシャツを汚れましたから、洗っています “I’m washing it because your daughter had gotten my shirt dirty.”
