Is there a Korea food not many know about that you enjoyed eating?

omg yes!! so many!!

There is the Korean sashimi (회), very expensive but omg the spicy sauce with it, im so in love.

Also, 물냉면 (mul naegmyeon) & 비빔냉면 (bibim naegmeyon)! The first one is not spicy, and it's cold noodles. The second one is spicy (I like it veryyy spicy until I don't feel my lips anymore lmao) and it's cold noodles too! I used to eat so much of those two during summer time!! Always with my watermelon juice lol!

Of course 짜장면 (jjajangmyeon) one of my all time favorite! Chicken too (with beer always).

Where I lived, there were a restaurant I used to go often because the food was amazing. I don't remember the name of the food, I'll post pictures anyway! I always used to take mandu (만두) with it!

I also learned that dried squid was the best with alcohol!! It's crazy!

"물냉면, 에스프레소, 부루의뜨락"

2024년 6월 30일. 5주차 일요일이라 아마추어 오케스트라 단원들끼리 연습 쉬자고 합의해 양재동 대신 딴 곳으로 마실.

전날은 일본 물냉면(=메밀 소바)과 만두, 이날은 한국 물냉면과 만두. 냉면에 진심(?)인 사람이 들으면 짱 열받을지 모르겠지만 내게 '물냉면 = 메밀 물국수'일 뿐이라 만 오천원이란 가격이 납득이 가진 않는다.

하지만 함께 간 일행이 "요즘은 김치볶음밥인지 개밥인지조차 구분 안 가는 부실한 거를 9천원~만원에 파는 세상이 돼 버리지 않았냐?"고 반문하자 할 말이 없네.

식당 나온 뒤엔 보신각 근처 에스프레소 바.

지인과 헤어진 후 태블릿 PC로 삽질하려고 한가한 스타벅스 찾아 어슬렁대다 명동까지 갔는데, '부루의 뜨락'이 아직도 있더만.

내가 90년대에 명동을 갔던 거의 유일한 목적은 여기 아니면 (롯데 백화점 건너편) '디아파송'에 들러 재즈판 사러.

음반 시장 다 죽은 지금까지 어떻게 버텼을까 신기해 구글 검색했더니 미래문화유산 지정 + K팝 성지 + 되살아난 LP판 덕분인듯? 1997년 개봉한 영화 '접속'에 나온 거도 한몫했을 듯.

'부루'는 환빠 같은 부류에서 '풍류'의 원래 말이라는 주장이 있다. '바람'과 '부루' 초성이 같고, 느낌도 비슷.

가위 춤도 곰돌이 춤도 하루종일 덩실덩실하는 사람과 기대없이 간 피자펍에서 초등학교 동창도 만나고 맛있는 옥수수도 먹고. 다음에 경기있을때 또 가면 흑맥주랑 청포도가 먹고싶어요!

You know how in English we ask this or that questions like chocolate or vanilla? crunchy peanut butter or smooth?

Here are some common ones in Korean~

부먹 vs 찍먹 When eating 탕수육 (sweet & sour pork), how do you eat the sauce? 부어 먹다 = pour on top then eat 찍어 먹다 = dip each piece in the sauce & eat

짜장 vs 짬뽕 What do you order at a Chinese restaurant? 짜장면 = black bean noodle dish 짬뽕 = spicy seafood noodle soup

물냉 vs 비냉 How do you like your cold noodles (often eaten in the summer and after k-bbq)? 물냉면 = cold noodle soup 비빔냉면 = spicy cold noodles (with less/no broth)

완숙 vs 반숙 How do you like your eggs? 완숙 = hard boiled (or yolk fully cooked, if frying) 반숙 = soft boiled (or soft yolk, if frying)

팥붕 vs 슈붕 Which filling do you prefer in your fish-shaped bread? 팥 붕어빵 = fish shaped bread w/ red bean filling 슈크림 붕어빵 = fish shaped bread w/ cream filling

밀떡 vs 쌀떡 When eating 떡볶이 (spicy stir-fried rice cakes), which type of 떡 (rice cake) do you prefer? 밀가루 떡볶이 = wheat flour 떡 쌀 떡볶이 = rice 떡

A similar concept/phrase is 호불호 갈리는 음식/음료 호불호 = "like & dislike" 갈리다 = divide So it means foods/drinks that people are divided over, as in you either like it or hate it. The #1 호불호 갈리는 음식 in America would probably be pineapple on pizza. A big one in Korea is 민트초코.

물냉면 substitutes:

고추가루 instead of 청양고추

anchovy (멸치) broth instead of 육수 (i just eyeballed this. about a small handful of dried anchovies boiled in about a bowl's worth of water. [this is where i got that idea: https://youtu.be/ffuakdFmuh4?si=ltZRs9o5efHaLTh4&t=162] _there was a tiny dried squid in there as well!_ just got it to boil and then kept it going another minute or so then strained it and used it.) Because i made the broth last minute the food was actually a little warm, but i quite liked it that way. Keeping the anchovy leftovers for something else.

& What to do with the leftovers:

think I'll do the "better butter" one. Can have it on a Finncrisp. "go ahead and blitz some softened butter, anchovies, salt, lemon zest and juice." Instead of blending it, I'll probs just lazily put some butter, then some anchovies, and lemon juice all on the cracker. Sounds like a good snack/breakfast though.
