Love Alarm.

Hi, everyone! I don’t really do this often, i’ve actually never done this before, but we really need to talk about Netflix’s new kdrama, Love Alarm. Before we start it, I just want to say I am not fluent in English, so I’m sorry for future mistakes. I also have to mention I didn’t finish the drama yet (I’m almost there), but I’ve read enough about it here, on Tumblr, so I got some stuff to say about all of that. Remember you can always disagree with me, and it’s fine!

First of all, let’s talk about dramas in general. If you have watched a lot of dramas, like me, you know what I mean when I say they are predictable. It’s ok if you don’t know what’s going to happen when you watch your first drama, or if you got played by the writers by shipping a couple that did not happen in the end, but when you get addicted to it and start watching a lot of them, you realize patterns. The protagonists are the protagonists for a reason, and it’s because they end up together. I allowed myself to like Do Hyeon and Han Song-i (My First First Love, also a Netflix drama) knowing that they were not gonna end up together, 'cause guess what? The male protagonist is Yoon Tae-o, not Do Hyeon. I’ve never seen a drama in which that pattern is not followed (pattern = protagonists date protagonists).

So, for all of those who, just like me, want Jojo to be with Hwang Sun-Oh, calm down. That’s the most likely thing to happen. It doesn't mean it’s certain, though.

Now we got to the whole point of this (for real), who should Jojo date. I recognize that I don’t really like Hye-Yeong, but I’ll try to forget about it for a bit (I swear I’ll do my best). So, as we know, the drama ends with a cliffhanger, where both Sun-Oh and Hye-Yeong turned Jojo’s Love Alarm, and now she needs to make a decision (that’s what I understood from everything I read, because, again, I didn’t finish the whole thing). I think some of us are asking ourselves the wrong question. You may not agree, but it doesn’t matter who she picks at the first place, because, again, she will probably end up with Sun-Oh. We’ll have eight whole episodes to watch, and even though it doesn’t seem much, a lot of things could happen in such a short amount of episodes.

She could pick, for instance, Hye-Yeong, but then they won’t work and she’ll go back to Sun-Oh. The opposite is also a possibility. She could pick Sun-Oh, but then things are just not as they were before. Anything could happen.

I also read some stuff I fell I have to comment as well, so there we go!

Some people are criticizing Sun-Oh and calling him selfish because he started dating his best friend’s crush (being aware that he liked her). Well, in a normal context it would be, like, very disrespectful, but this is a drama, and nothing is actually normal in dramas. Ok, that’s not the point. The point is that Sun-Oh asked Hye-Yeong SO MANY TIMES if he liked Jojo, and he said that, no matter what, his answer would always be no. He didn’t want Sun-Oh to stop flirting with her, God knows why. But that was his choice, and, if we think about it, Sun-Oh did it. As human beings, not drama characters, we know it isn’t true, but, again, everything is different when you are in a drama. Hye-Yeong wanted him to believe that he didn’t care or whatever, and if he didn’t want his best friend to date his crush, all he had to do was say no, but he chose not to. It was his choice, and he was pretty conscious when he made it.

Ok, moving on, I’ve also read that some people think Jojo and Hye-Yeong’s “relationship” in the end was kind of forced. I stopped right before all of that happened, so I don’t really know how it was done, but I presume it was a little forced. I mean, if it was, all of that stuff about Jojo choosing Hye-Yeong instead of Sun-Oh and then going back to him would make a lot of sense (or I’m just crazy, who knows). I can’t really say something about it, so I’ll just leave it up to you!
