Valentine's Day—the one day that comes to mind when thinking February! Get ready to have a chat as sweet and exciting as chocolate with K-POP, who seem like they'd get the most Valentine's gifts!

Tomato: It'll be Valentine's Day soon. Some people think Valentine's Day is too commercial, while some say to just enjoy it as a holiday. What do you, the members of K-POP think?

Yoobin: Leaving the commercial part behind, I like receiving lots of chocolate. I don't have any qualms about that.

Joomin: Well, I don't like how it started because a foreign chocolate company wanted to make money. Plus, overseas there's nothing else like it, and so it's not very welcoming to see us in Korea celebrate it like some big festival. But I think the idea of giving women a chance to confess their feelings first is novel!

Youngwon: Valentine's Day, too, is one of many holidays. Having holidays provides an energy in life, and waiting for one feels good too. So, I think it'd be good to set the commerciality behind and just enjoy it.

Tomato: K-POP must've received many chocolate gifts on Valentine's, so who do you think has received the most?

Yoobin: Woohyun!

Tomato: Then, what was your most memorable Valentine's Day, Woohyun?

Woohyun: A girl gave me a bunch chocolates in a red, match box-sized container, and the pieces were arranged into a heart. It was so pretty. That's my most memorable Valentine's.

Tomato: What about the other members?

Yoobin: When I was a high school freshman, a girl gave her all putting chocolates into a glass cup and gave it to me. That day, I was with a relative, and I was bringing it to show them when I broke it. Pieces of glass got stuck in the chocolate, so I had no choice but to throw it away.

That girl's friend lived below us, and she saw me throw away the chocolate and told her. The girl thought I threw it away because I didn't like her, and after that she never even pretended to notice me. ㅠ.ㅠ

I really didn't mean to. I want to take this opportunity to say sorry to her.

Donghwa: When I was in high school, I received a "teddy bear chocolate".

Tomato: Teddy bear chocolate? What's that?

Donghwa: Someone took out all of the stuffing inside a teddy bear and filled it with chocolate, then put a zipper on it and gifted it to me.

Tomato: That's quite brutal, isn't it?

Donghwa: That person said they wanted to give a memorable present, even if the method was a bit cruel.

Tomato: Well, they succeeded—it definitely was memorable to you.

Joomin: One girl gave me my favorite fish jerky and various chocolates in a big box she made herself. I liked the fish jerky even more than the chocolate~

Youngwon: I can't forget when my elementary school sweetheart gifted me chocolate that cost 300 won. It was a small present, but since it was given to me by someone I liked it's more memorable than anything else.

Tomato: Then, what if a woman you don't like gives you chocolates and asks you to go out with her?

Joomin: It'd be fine if she was just giving me chocolate, but if she wanted to date me I'd have to talk to her well. I've had that happen to me before, and so I talked to her and sent her off.

Yoobin: I'd receive the chocolate and then gently talk it out, because I feel like I'd have to appreciate her sincerity.

Tomato: But wouldn't that be leading her on?

Yoobin: Is that so? Still, I have to eat the chocolate she gave to me for her~

Tomato: Lastly, what gifts do you want to receive this Valentine's?

Woohyun: I haven't had anything specific in mind. Just a necklace or ring would be nice. I like accessories like that.

Yoobin: I haven't thought of anything either. Yoobin just wants to receive our fans' love~

Joomin: That's such a fake comment. I want expensive presents~ Just kidding... I think being loved would be the most precious gift of all, too.

Tomato: Well then, K-POP fans get to save a lot~ ^0^~ K-POP fans, This Valentine's Day, just send the boys all your love~

식량 안보를 개선하기 위해 연구자들은 현재 토마토 , 감자, 가지, 고추 를 포함한 가지속 작물 22종의 유전체를 매핑하고 있다.존스홉킨스 대학과 콜드스프링하버 연구소가 주도한 새로운 분석에서 연구팀은 이러한 유전체에서 많은 유전자 서열이 장기간에 걸쳐 복제되는 것으로 보인다는 것을 발견했다.연구팀은 이 중복 유전자의 사본 중 하나 또는 둘 다를 무력화 시킨 다음, 실험실에서 식물을 재배하여 무슨 일이 일어나는지 살펴보았다. 결과적으로, 이 유전자들은 꽃이 피는 데 걸리는 시간과 자란 과일의 크기와 모양과 같은 특성에서 중요한 역할을 한다는 것을 확인했다.연구팀은 CLV3 라는 중복 유전자의 두 사본을 모두 ���거하면 과일이 모두 “이상하고, 거품이 많고, 무질서하게” 변하는 것을 발견했다. 하지만 사본…

좀 빠른 굴을 먹었었다. 굴을 먹으며 작년 굴 먹었던 시간을 추억했었다.

우리는 그만큼 사이좋은 동료이자 친구이자 가족같은 우애 좋은 회사생활을 하고 있었다.

스포티니의 피자는 예쁜데 맛은 좀 서운했다. 도우에 비해서 토마토 소스를 너무 아낀 느낌.

그리고 서울숲에 가기전에 KFC비스킷을 사들고 갔었다. 별다방에서 한참 기���려 커피를 TO-GO해서 겨울이 다가오는 가을 바람을 맞으며 당신과 커피를 한잔 하고 헤어졌었다.

그렇게 가을이 가고 있었다.

보고서 1차 마감을 하고 어제 하루 쉬었다. 19일 연속 출근하니까 온몸이 너무 버겁더라. 그리고 쉬는날 추운날 데이트도 열심히 했었다. 그녀에게 곰인형을 선물했는데, 딱히 반기지 않는 거 같아서 당황했는데.

그얘 이름은 "명명" 이라도 짓는다고 했다. 조수석에 태우고 다니면 좋겠다라는 생각도 했다.

병원 갔다가 리더십 마저 쓰러 가야한다. 참 쉽지 않다. 먹고 사는 건 참 쉽지 않은 일이다.

"버터"

*버터

버터벨 혹은 버터크록이라는 도자기 그릇을 본 적이 있다.

우연히 sns 피드에서 보게 되었는데 버터를 상온보관하기 위한 컨테이너라나,

사실 그 때엔 버터맛을 모르기도 했고 딱히 냉동된 버터에서도 아쉬움이 없어서 요란한 겉치레라고 생각했다.

그런데 얼마전 우연히 상온에 미지근히 해동된 버터를 먹고는 이마를 탁 칠수밖에.

고소하고 부드러운 풍미가 너무나 맛있었다.

어느 곳에서 조식 버터는 이런 맛이 아니었는데,

내가 변한건지, 유난히 고소한 날이었는지는 모르지만

이제와 그 버터벨이 사무치게 갖고 싶어지는 것도 욕심이겠지.

집에가면 구운 빵에 카야잼을 바르고 살짝녹인 버터를 곁들여 커피에 먹을 생각 뿐이다.

하루는 장을 보러 이마트에 갔다. 와인 코너를 지나 버터와 치즈가 모여있는 코너 앞에 서게 되었는데 굉장히 낯익은 상표가 보였다. 엘르앤비르. 말레이시아 살았을 때 특정 커피빈에서 ���이글을 주문하면 꼭 엄청나게 맛있는 크림치즈를 같이 줬다. 너무 맛있어서 그 크림치즈 상표를 꼭 기억했는데 그게 바로 엘르앤비르 크림치즈. 생각지도 못한 조우에 들뜬 나는 엘르앤비르의 무거운 한 덩어리의 버터를 바로 집어 들고 카트에 넣었다. 그리고 신나게 집에 와서 종이호일을 꺼내 버터를 소분했다. 헤헤. 다음날 아침, 식빵을 토스트기에 노릇하게 구운 후 냉동실에서 소분한 버터를 꺼냈다. '같은 상표인 크림치즈가 맛있었으므로 이 버터는 분명 내가 만족할 만한 맛을 가졌겠지'라고 생각하며 입에 한가득 군침이 고인 채 식빵에 버터를 올리고 열심히 발랐다. 와앙. 첫 한 입을 물었다. 응? 응? 이렇다고? 헤헤. 내가 왜 아무 생각이 없었을까. 난 왜 무염버터를 산 걸까. 상표에 홀려 제대로 확인도 안 하고 그냥 샀지 뭐. 그렇게 와장창 나의 기대가 무너졌다. 다신 내가 무염버터를 사나 봐.

일요일 저녁에 다음 주 지영이 먹을 도시락 메뉴로 카레를 만들어두고 원주로 출근해서 일하고 있는데 갑자기 지영에게 전화가 왔다. 도시락 반찬을 나눠먹다 카레를 먹은 한 동료가 너무 맛있었다며 레시피를 알려달라고 했다는 이야기. 신나서 카레 레시피를 정성 들여 써서 보내고는 전화로 직접 설명도 했다.

넛맥을 조금은 넣어야 밖에서 파는 것 같은 맛이 나고요. 코리앤더, 큐민 씨드도 들어가면 좋은데 없으면 그냥 안 넣으셔도 괜찮아요. 우스터소스랑 토마토 퓨레가 없으면 그냥 케첩으로 대신해도 되고요. 그런데 마지막에 불 끈 다음에 버터는 꼭 넣으셔야 해요. 레시피 보시면 버터가 이건 좀 많지 않나 싶으실 텐데, 그게 맞거든요. 아니, 그냥 다음주에 제가 많이 만들어서 지영이 통해서 보내드릴게요.

내 카레를 먹고 으레 하는 잘 먹었다�� 말 말고, 진짜 맛있게 먹었다는 것이 느껴지는 반응은 이번이 두 번째다. 첫 번째는 십여 년 전 친구들이랑 주문진에 놀러 갔을 때 민박집에서 만들어준 카레를 필립이 먹고서 엄지를 든 채 주방까지 뛰어왔을 때였다. 세 그릇을 더 먹고, 집으로 돌아간 뒤에 또 만들어달라고 부탁받았을 때는 얼마나 뿌듯하던지.

사실 내가 만든 음식은 지영이 아니면 나밖에 먹을 사람이 없지만, 아무튼 카레를 선보이고 지금까지는 100% 성공했으니 이제부터 내 버터 카레는 특제라는 이름을 앞에 붙여도 되겠다 싶다.

우유가 그냥 만들어지는 게 아니라 젖소가 임신과 출산을 반��해야 한다는 글을 보고 유제품을 줄이려고 노력한다.

그래도 버터는 거부하기가 어렵다. 음식에 넣으면 풍미를 좋게 하고 냄새까지 좋다.

집을 팔아야 할 때 집을 보러 오는 사람들이 오기전에 빵을 구우라는 글을 본적 있다. 빵에 스며든 버터냄새에 매료되어 집까지 더 아늑하게 느낀다는 설명이었는데 납득이 간다.
