Submitting Janine Teagues from Abbott Elementary <3 (a show with a majority Black cast!)

Janine teaches a second grade class at an underfunded and under-served/privileged school.

She's a bit naive at times but she really cares for all the kids at her school (as well as her fellow teachers) She works endlessly and tirelessly to make sure the kids get everything they need to succeed and have a good experience.

She's a little (cause she's short 🤭) (me too tho) ball of anxious energy. She desperately needs a parental figure to look up to. And friends. She can be pushy but her determination to do the right thing and be kind really aids in her quest to be friends w her coworkers.

I'm so curious bc i peaked when I saw a mean radblr meme and the older man who had been inappropriately messaging me physically resembled the tim in the meme. Like kneesocks catboy. Then I realized oh this is just another man. Tellibg me to reblog his selfie or donate to trans charities or that his period was worse than mine.. The veil was lifted.

oooh this is the one i wanted to get cause it's actually kind of a funny answer lol. so like...i never really bought into trans stuff completely in the first place tbh. like i was tentatively accepting of them, but i never really met any trans people or even heard much about trans issues until i went to college, even though all my high school friends were gay. i was aware of it and a bit curious about ftm stuff but mostly i was just like mmmm not that interested.

the college i went to was veeeery liberal and small and super vocal about being lgbt-friendly so of course i eventually met many trans and nonbinary people there. this one mtf specifically i remember kind of raised my eyebrows by wearing fake tits and telling me about how affirming they were and i was like ummm hold up women's bodies aren't costumes. like idgaf if you want to wear dresses and makeup but there was something about that that just rubbed me the wrong way and i talked about that to my roommates and they agreed with me.

and then in my second year i got to know this girl (also a lesbian) who would become my best friend, and we were shooting the shit while cooking bacon late at night one time, and i think we were talking about pansexuality and idk exactly what we said but i said something about how it's just like people attracted to all genders and she said something like "well yeah but in the end everyone's either male or female" and idk what it was but that just made something click into place in my brain. i was like girl you are so fucking right wtf. and then i went home for summer break and made this tumblr account and here we are now.

she later told me that she was super nervous while saying that to me. we became really close after that and would have like "secret meetings" on her balcony because her roommate was never home so we could talk about feminism in private there. or play yaoi games, you know, whatever.

idk, it was such a small moment and such an obvious truth, but it felt like a veil had been lifted from my eyes. i'd always been a bit confused by trans ideology but thought it was something that had nothing to do with me so i kinda just ignored it and went along with whatever people told me was the right way to feel about them. I even remember being nervous about it before i left for school thinking that not really being interested in dating them at all made me a bad person lol. not that that even mattered in the end, but it's interesting that i still had guilt about it even though i wasn't particularly passionate or interested in trans issues.

so, i'm very grateful to that friend. she was once on radblr but probably not anymore.

we had to stop playig at telescope towers bc that level was glitched on my wii and the fun came to a grinding halt but god i miss it
