some notes for 20.09.2023 post and a separate cut out for utena because i spent a very long time rendering her ... the original concept i had in my head for this art was very different. it was just supposed to be a style study of this an official anime prop design art, and i'd thought to draw anthy in a similar pose across from her like in the shown version, but with her wearing her prince outfit from the manga. something something another form of female competition under the patriarchyyy stop pitting 2 girlprinces against each other omg etc (side note, how sick would it have been in an AU where akio made anthy fight against utena in the ring? like i dont think it would hav added more to the story or made it better really ... probably would've diluted the message to be honest ... but everytime i see that manga art of prince anthy i imagine some convoluted black rose arc AU where utenas dodging anthy getting her hair hacked off left and right like himemiyaaa nooo snap out of it this isnt uuu while anthys silent and dead eyed hahaha) but then after i drew prince anthy, the picture looked rather empty ... so i thought to add a few decals or borders in the style of the show & official arts but aaahh ... there was still too much negative space. i had to scrap anthy's prince outfit and put her back in her rose bride dress 😭 man !!! he cant keep getting away this !!! [blames akio the figurehead of patriarchy instead of taking responsibility of my own actions] which made me sad because i was pretty satisfied with the way i drew her pose and legs ! but i had to cover it up 🥲 ... the composition overall looked better though. and then after that it kept spiraling. i just kept adding more and more things until i lost control of this drawing and it plagued my WIP folder for months ... i dont want to try and connect all of it in words so ill just lay out all the pieces for you so you can connect them yourself. and you can experience my art thought process in fraction of erraticity and frustration as i experience it myself. this is a lot neater than what happened in my head though because i bothered to put it in order. honestly if i can make you feel a little bit insane trying to scroll through and read all this than i can make you understand how annoying my brain is when all i wanted to draw was utenanthy girlprinces fighting starting references & inspiration: utena prop reference sheet & manga prince!anthy

Other associations are with Air, Mercury, and the Hebrew letter ז (Zayin). In the Rider Waite deck, the imagery for this card is changed significantly from the traditional depiction. Instead of a couple receiving a blessing from a noble or cleric, the Rider–Waite deck depicts Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

What is your favorite thing to have come out of the whole experience of creating Midst?

📜: To be 100% honest, the experience of crafting and telling a story with two of my best friends is already, just on its own, amazing. Finding ways to combine our interests and do this funky thing together as a way to spend time is utterly magical, pure and simple. For us, Midst started at a coffee shop, on a day off, with a blank notebook, and some ideas for a shared imaginary sandbox. It wasn’t anything fancy, so if there’s something that you’ve been wanting to make with your friends, just do it!

A Friday without any cases was always going to be a good day. Usually it guaranteed Hotch would have Jack for the weekend, and cases that weren't urgent would be put on hold until Monday.

Weekend plans were going around and soon it was Spencer's turn to share. "There's a new exhibit down at the museum so I was probably going to check that out." He says, tuning down the notch of his excitement. "Any of you are welcome to come." He offers.

Everyone always says no, but his mom used to tell him not to stop asking, that he was worthy of being a friend.

But you didn't say no. Instead, you answered honestly before you could stop yourself.

And in the sea of nos, there's one fish swimming against the school. "I'd love to."

His eyes light up as he looked up at you in shock before grinning widely. "Really?"

"Yeah." You confirm. "It's why you've got all those books on your desk, right?"

There is a huge stack of at least 7 reference books about the topic of the new exhibit so he could revise his knowledge. He nods, picking one up to show you the front cover. "Oh, you're going to love it. It's so interesting."

Spencer could make watching paint dry interesting, you have no doubt. "I really can't wait."

today is a very important day for me ! its the day i leave my own ohtori. ill be traveling for a while, so you might not see me for a bit sorry for leaving so soon again after coming back, but i promise this time its for a good reason. dont worry, we'll meet again ! you'll hardly notice - when we do, it'll be like i was never gone you know ... despite what i'd wish, i feel like i'm more similar to nanami than anthy. i admire anthy for her strength, something i've never possessed. i was never one able to be repeatedly made to bend but unable to break to be honest, rather than even a doll i feel more like broken goods. a wreckage more than anything resembling a person. i don't think i was ever meant to be one, really. not even my suffering was worth the satisfaction or entertainment anymore. so why am i alive ? always, i felt like an animal uselessly crying out, screaming in a cage. my existence was humiliating. i felt like a disgusting joke. but despite that i just still couldn't let go, you know ? despite everything "because i still love you." at least nanami and anthy had a memory of a happier childhood to look back on. haha ... reality is cruel like that, isn't it ? no matter what others try to say, we know some of us were never born innocent i wish i could leave with a smile like her. i wonder if nanami cried when she finally left her own brother. even though, it may have taken me twice as long, today is the very beginning of the rest of my life. i've had my ear against the coffin door all this time, resigned, listening. i thought i would die in here. i've certainly tried but, nothing is eternal. however long and painful it may be "there's no such thing as something that cannot be lost. everyone has the freedom to love someone or something ... we must not forget that" "i don't need you," is what i've always been told. if ... i was born as nothing ... and it's truly as they say - that i have still amounted to nothing, then that would mean we both would have nothing to lose. i'll do my best to believe it this time, and finally go make something of myself the world is free and wide. all roads laid, can still be unmade. i can't help being afraid, but today i'll walk past the ends of this world and towards the one where we can all meet this isn't a goodbye. i'll see you out there, alright ?

For the appendices, what are some ideas that you thought were really neat or fun but simply didn't work for any reason? Like, those darlings you had to kill, as they say.

📜: This is a FABULOUS question! One of the initial ideas for the appendices was to present them like a tableau of items (sort of like those spreads in I Spy books) as though you were looking at a different character’s desk or bookshelf each time, and some of those early collections could have had some fun props involved (desk fidgets, decorative knick-knacks, bar garnishes, writing and eating utensils, etc.). Unfortunately that idea proved way too elaborate and time intensive to produce when we first started. BUT! We WERE able to do this a couple of times in Season 2 (S2E03, and S2E18) and I LOVE the way that that helped create a sense of place, seeing the items in situ where you (and presumably the Narrators???) found them. 

As for individual appendix ideas that didn’t end up making it, there was an idea for S2E09 that I was VERY torn about: I love the Seed Catalog we got, but one of the back-up ideas was a hiring poster for a wailing crew, which I think could’ve been extremely cool!

But speaking of NEAT and FUN APPENDICES, there are some EXQUISITE pieces coming up in Season 3, and I CANNOT WAIT for you to see them! AND SEASON 3 STARTS TOMORROW, so you barely have to wait!
