summary: a private moment between you and your boyfriend is interrupted by your unsuspecting friends

“Are you sure no one saw you come in here?”

“Yes, I’m sure,” Zuko says with a huff after closing the flaps of your tent. “You know, I’m starting to think you’re embarrassed to be seen with me.”

“You know that’s not true,” you argue with a frown. “I just enjoy having some privacy. I know those guys are going to make a big deal about us being together, and I just want to enjoy our relationship without having to deal with any prying eyes.”

“I know,” he admits with a sigh. “I’m just tired of sneaking around. Do you know how difficult it is not to kiss you or check on you after a fight with my sister? It’s torture.”

“It’s just until the war is over. There’s a lot at stake right now, and it would be a weird time to come clean. It’ll be over before you know it.”

“I hope you’re right,” Zuko murmurs with a frown, one that immediately melts away at the feel of your arms wrapping around his midsection. It’s hard to be upset when you’re smiling up at him with the purest look of adoration in your eyes. Despite everything, all of his flaws and mistakes and cruelty, you love him, and it fuels the warmth inside of his heart knowing he has someone like you. Maybe he would have joined the Avatar and his friends sooner if he knew it would lead him to you.

“At least we’re finally alone,” he notes with a faint smile before leaning down to press his lips against your own in a long awaited kiss. He hasn’t been able to give or receive affection all day, and it isn’t until now with your chest pressed against his own that he’s finally able to truly feel relaxed.

Unfortunately, you’re both too engrossed in each other to notice the rustling of your tent flaps as Sokka and Toph let themselves in without a second thought.

“Hey, y/n, Toph and I are gonna head into town, do you want to- oh, gross!” He cries after catching Zuko and yourself mid lip lock.

You both jump at the intrusion, knocking your head together on accident and groaning in unison at the impact.

“Sokka!” You cry out in embarrassment. “Monkey feathers, don’t you knock?!”

“It’s a tent! There is no knocking!” He yells back defensively, equally as upset as you are. “I can’t believe you guys were kissing!”

“We weren’t kissing,” Zuko argues, his face red with embarrassment. “We were… hugging… with our… mouths?”

“Oh, spirits,” you groan, your palm hitting your forehead in embarrassment at Zuko’s horrible attempt at lying. For a Prince, he has a terrible way with words. You’d think all that time spent with his Uncle would make his vocabulary more eloquent.

“If Toph could see she’d be very upset right now!” Sokka scolds, but the girl beside him simply shrugs.

“Actually, this works out great for me. Katara owes me five gold pieces now,” she says with a grin.

“You guys knew they were dating and didn’t tell me?!” The water tribe boy says in offense.

“I had a hunch, but Katara disagreed, so we made a bet.”

“Enough already! This is mortifying enough as it is,” you groan impatiently. “Sokka, we’ll talk about this later. For now, I need both of you out!”

After getting the two to leave the tent, you shut it closed with an irritated sigh. You’re absolutely humiliated, and you don’t think you can show your face to your friends ever again.

“So much for keeping it a secret,” the fire bender mutters.

“You,” you say with an accusatory finger pointed at the Prince, “need to learn how to lie better.”

“I know,” he admits meekly, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. Sighing, you open your water pouch and tend to the growing bump on his head from your previous collision. You can’t stay mad at him when he looks so flustered and sweet, so instead you merely throw your arms around his neck and pull him back in for another kiss.

You can focus on coming clean later. For now, you just want to enjoy your moment of peace with the boy you love.

Okay guys, it's time for me to comment on the appearance of the characters from the Avatar the last airbender series from Netflix😂

These two look brutal, I think they are very powerful and good looking 🔥

Why does Sokka look like he'd rather beat you up than crack a joke and make you laugh 😂

I'll just say that I'm delighted by how beautiful Katara looks. She's unbelievably sweet.😍

I honestly expected this look from Aang. Let's not forget that he is still 12 years old. And now that we see his version in real life it's really that Kaatang won't happen because it would be too embarrassing for everyone.

It's not bad, but I'm not going to lie to you, I'm not really happy with the appearance of Zuko. Very brave of them to put his first hairstyle, I hope in the series his hair will grow and he will look better.

But you all have to agree that the low-budget series could have done the scar look a lot better. Because this looks like that angry Sokka punched him in the face and left him with a bruise😂 .

I know no one is asking me but I wanted to see the identical Zuko in the series, as well as in front of my door but okay we won't talk about that 😂

For reasons that have everything and nothing to do with the most recent chapters of I&S, I've been thinking a lot about a time travel AU that I will absolutely never write.

Specifically, I want a time travel AU where little-kid!Zuko (age 9-10) travels forward in time and meets angry-teen!Zuko (we're talking like... the Book 1 egghead version of angry-teen!Zuko here). I know that sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, but the way I envision this playing out is:

Teen!Zuko and kid!Zuko meet, and after a healthy amount of confusion, figure out that they're two different versions of the same person. Kid!Zuko is... not thrilled to be stuck on a rickety old ship with a much grumpier version of himself, but hey! Uncle Iroh is here, and he's got lots of board games and even more free time, so it could be worse. Teen!Zuko, meanwhile, is having a bit of a crisis as he gets slapped in the face with several realizations all at once.

Realization #1: A warship is not a good place for a 9-10 year old boy to live, but there's literally nowhere else in the world where kid!Zuko will be safe. For as long as kid!Zuko is stuck in this timeline, teen!Zuko has to look after him.

Realization #2: Oh, shit. No one has seriously fucked up kid!Zuko yet. His life obviously hasn't been perfect, but this is pretty much the peak of kid!Zuko's sweet-and-innocent phase.

Realization #3: ... as fucked up as teen!Zuko's life has been, he desperately doesn't want to be the person who fucks up kid!Zuko's life.

Cue teen!Zuko scrambling to get his shit together so that he can be a reasonably healthy and stable guardian/big brother figure for his younger self. He starts working on his temper and trying to take Iroh's advice more seriously, and while things don't always go smoothly (kid!Zuko definitely picks up some vigilante tendencies from teen!Zuko. There may or may not be sightings of a tiny Blue Spirit causing trouble up and down the Earth Kingdom coast), teen!Zuko eventually figures out what he's doing. He puts in the work to become a decent role model, he deals with some of his own shit (and his outlook on life improves), he grows to see kid!Zuko as the little brother he never had, and he generally doesn't fuck anything up too badly.

Basically, looking after kid!Zuko teaches teen!Zuko self love (but with extra steps! I don't think grumpy-teen!Zuko could ever learn anything the simple way 😂)

All of that growth makes it harder and harder for teen!Zuko to ever envision himself returning to the Fire Nation. After all, if he wouldn't put his younger self through the pain of going back there and dealing with Ozai, why should he put his present self through that? And on a related note, kid!Zuko definitely has questions about teen!Zuko's scar and banishment. When teen!Zuko reaches a point where he's able to think about the Agni Kai, he can't imagine anything that kid!Zuko could ever do to deserve that kind of treatment, which leads teen!Zuko to question whether he deserved it. And as teen!Zuko starts to come to grips with the fact that he's probably never going back home - certainly not if it would mean putting kid!Zuko through the same pain that teen!Zuko experienced there - he has to start considering what other options he has for the future.

Kid!Zuko may or may not accelerate teen!Zuko's redemption arc even more by befriending various members of the Gaang and dragging his 'big brother' along to meet his new friends/disappearing for a few hours with his new friends only to be 'rescued' by teen!Zuko who is... very surprised and very awkward about it when he realizes who kid!Zuko is hanging out with.

There are obviously lots of time travel AUs out there already, but apparently this one is just going to live in my brain for the forseeable future 😂 As much as I love the standard "post-redemption!Zuko meets Book 1 Zuko and mentors his younger self to accelerate his own redemption/drags himself kicking and screaming toward redemption" time travel AUs that I see around the fandom, I think I'm just hungry for a time travel AU where pre-redemption!Zuko doesn't know what his future could look like. To me, there's just something really appealing about the idea of a time travel AU where his redemption gets accelerated not because he knows his life will get better if he becomes a better person, but because he wants to be someone who his younger self can be proud of.

A Tale of Spirits last sneak peak

Zuko’s a bad liar 😂

Like always, things are subject to change for the final release.  (I meant to post this yesterday so this is 90% the final wording unless something changes during my final read through)

SNEAK PEAK (Zuko POV)

His hands curl around the wooden bar and his eyes slip close.  He’s ready for this to be over.  This trial-this cruel test the spirits have crafted for him.  What is he supposed to learn from this?  Shame?  Humility?  Pity?  He already knows the war should end, but the other nations are just so stubborn.  His stomach howls over the empty sea and he ignores it.  Zuko’s used to it by now.  No one should be used to this, he thinks.  

Zuko slumps over the railing with a sigh and lets his eyes slip open.  He glances at the water below, only to stare straight into the grinning face of the spirit.  He pushes away with a shriek .  His hands come up on autopilot and only years of discipline stop him from setting his fist ablaze.  What is Mikey doing?  He’s supposed to be hiding until the ferry takes off?!?

“What?” A guard shouts.  The man moves and places a hand on the hilt of his sword.  “What is it?”

Zuko freezes.  “It’s nothing!” he shouts.  “It’s just a,” he stumbles.  His eyes flicker around the boat but there’s nothing.  Where’s Uncle when you need him?  The guard steps forward.  “A,” Zuko yells, “a splinter.”

The man pauses.  “What?”

He blushes.  “A splinter,” Zuko repeats.  He pulls a hand close to his chest and curses the spirit under his breath.  “It…hurt,” he mumbles.

The guard raises an eyebrow and a soft chuckle rumbles across the deck.  Zuko ignores them and keeps his eyes on the guard's posture.  Don’t advance, he thinks, please.  “Just,” the guard starts, “be careful.”  The guard lets his hands fall away from the sword and Zuko’s shoulders drop in relief.  He waits until the man disappears into the interior to throw himself back at the railing.

“What are you doing?!” he hisses.  “Someone’s going to see you.”

“Careful, Zuks!” Mikey whispers.  “You don’t want another splinter.”

Zuko lunges with a low growl.  His fingers curl for the laughing spirit's neck but Mikey drops just out of his reach.

I like how we're getting to see that Sokka's feelings of inadequacy as a leader and warrior aren't unfounded - he DID struggle, it didn’t come naturally

I don't blame Hakoda in this moment - he knows the war is coming and he's going to have to leave Sokka in charge - he knows it's not fair - he knows it's an impossible situation, and he's desperately trying to exert some control over the uncontrollable

It makes sense that he'd want Sokka to be magically perfect, that way he could feel marginally better about abandoning him and the village - it's not like he has a choice to stay, everyone is in impossible situations and wishing your kid could be the perfect leader when you know it's going to be forced on them anyways is totally rational

Love that Aang immediately clocks the vision as not real

Despite wanting nothing more than to go see his home and people again, he's a master of the spiritual side of his nature - he knows how to rein it in.

It hurts all the more when we get to Gyatzo and there's the initial distrust - completely founded

Aang: I just can't hate that face. That boy deserves the world, and I just love everything about his character arc and how it ended.

Sokka: He's a lovable dork and the brains of the team. What's there not to like?

I feel like the palace staff would love Zuko and yous relationship

Like once Zuko convinces them that he's not going to burn and banish them, there's a more relaxed aura in the palace and you actually befriend some of the maids and servants

Overhearing some of the younger servants gossiping about how they saw the firelord practicing his romantic lines for you. Watching them giggle as they talk about how Zuko was asking them for rose petals, and how he goes pink when the seamstresses ask for his opinions on the lingerie you asked for.

The older chefs treating you both like their children, dropping off extra chocolate and treats when they over make. Zuko always gives them holidays whenever they wish, so you'll always catch them giving smiles and warm greetings to you both.

Or when you walk out of your shared bedroom with a little bump god is Zukos cum thick, the maids give you a small smirk asking if they should begin preparations to decorate the guest bedroom into a nursery

It's the first time in generations that the staff love their firelord and firelady, bc you treat them like an extension of the family.

Idk why i didn’t see this but you’re so right pookie . The biggest shock to the people amongst the castle has to definitely be how you two are actually in love with each other . That alone has really surprised most people since most firelords before him had either concubines or married for political gain , etc . So they’re all so happy since you two alone are happy, so it creates such a homey and comfortable vibe within the castle to dismantle the original intent for intimidation and darkness .

Zuko himself has already earned the trust of his workers since for one, he is the complete opposite of his father, and for two because he basically fired everyone from the castle who worked there that refused to abide by the law of peace and tranquility . He made it a hell of a lot easier for you to be able to feel comfortable in the castle, and the people that work in it, making friends with your personal maids and servant ladies .

They often come to you about literally anything Zuko does its hilarious to you . They tell you what he ate as a snack in his office, they tell you what he said to his advisors when he got upset, literally everything . You get all smiley whenever they inform you about the things he says about you, or whenever he sends off a cute note to you when he’s on a completely different section of the castle thats too far away to walk . Honestly, when you give him the task to go pick up a mystery package from the seamstress, you should’ve seen the way his face went red when the lady asked him was he the person who was going to wear the lingerie that was commissioned to her . (😂)

Of course the chefs spoil you two also, since he’s so good to them, whenever they make more food than needed, they often put leftovers in pretty boxes and leave them out for you two to snack on when y’all get hungry after doing the do yk . LMAO . He gives all of his workers holidays to go spend time with their family because honestly he wouldn’t mind complete quiet in the castle, only you and him with the whole place to yourselves .

We don’t speak on what you two actually did while they were all gone, but just know you and Zuko rarely did ever come out the room for anything . You wouldn’t hear the end of it from the maids, they were so ready to plan out the nursery for the babies soon to come . It’s so easygoing, that everyone feels like just a big family with you and Zuko at the center of it, and they wouldn’t have it any other way honestly . (💫)

I hope there are some native speakers out there that have translated this but for now I haven't checked the tag and I do study mandarin (tho my level is 1.nothing%💀) so I tried to use my dictionary app to understand some stuff and so far im at the first 2 lines from the right page of this spread lol

Oh and btw, these are traditional characters! I only really study simplified ones so im really at sea rn ajskdkeke

I can't even translate the sentences as a whole😭 (tho in my defense i can't see like 5 of the characters) but what i got so far:

First sentence to the RIGHT:

來 = to arrive

臨 = to arrive, overlook, to face, just before, just about to

的 = auxiliary

甩 (?? Not too sure if it's this one) = to throw, to fling, to swing, to leave behind, to throw off

Can't see

當 = to be, to act as, manage, withstand, when, during, ought, should, match equally, equal, same, obstruct, just at, on the spot

看 = see, look, read, etc

The first two together 來臨 = to come closer, to approach.

And i THINK 當 followed by 看 means "wait and see".

No idea how to string that together into a sentence tho (fr, im a begginer🤷‍♂️) but I guess the general idea is: Zuko's closer to leaving behind something? His banishment possibly? And he just has to wait and see.

Second sentence (first on the LEFT of the page with the 2 drawings):

As for the 7th one, there's another lóng (this is the pīnyīn) which is 龍 but as you can see, it misses the upper part of the character (龍 vs 籠). However, the reason is I'm pointing it out is bc im still not too sure about that character and this particular lóng has a different meaning, dragon or imperial. Also, if paired up with 生 it creates an idiom: 生龍 = lively dragon and animated tiger = vigorous and lively.

So the second sentence mentions a rainstorm and caging something or manipulating someone or... yeah idk ajsksksks

I highly doubt that Shen’s eventual discovery of Zuko’s identity (assuming that happens) will go down like this. But in my head, I like to imagine Shen somehow overhearing the name “Zuko,” maybe when a stranger/fire nation soldier mentions the lost prince. And he just stops. “ZUko” —> “ZUli.” Fuckity fuck. Dread in his stomach. It’s not certain confirmation, but by gut feeling, it definitely is. So cue another life-altering realization about his chaos son, unwillingly thrust upon him: Spawn of Ozai. Neat.

Poor Shen. This man is so weary. His teenagers have aged him so much. “Not my circus not my— Fuck, that’s definitely my monkey.” But damn if his new-parent struggles don’t bring me great amusement. If it’s not clear, I adore your stories and your characters <3

This would be a nice way for him to find out. It would give him some time to process, have a little breakdown, then face the consiquences.

Poor man didn't ask for this, whether he deserves it is debatable, but he is certainly very determined to do the parent thing, now it has been thrust upon him 😂

My favourite characters from atla can be categorised into

The mischief maker, the grump and finally now that I'm an adult, the sunshine

I started watching AtLA when i was 15 and it's quite telling which characters I would grow to relate to and wanted to be like (until now). Okay, let's break this up;

1. I was a teenager and I wanted to blend into the background but i also wanted to be cool so I think that's why I love Mai so much lol

Knife throwing coolness? Being expressionless most of the time? Had to manage her family's expectations? Knows where her heart stands at the end of the day? Soft for people she cares about even if she doesn't often show them? Fire nation prince as the boyfriend? Uh yes.

Not to mention her VA and Zuko's VA voices are just so ✨👌🏻 they've got such nice husky voices i love listening to them 😂

2. Who doesn't like Toph?

If my teen self related so well to Mai, the person I wanted to be like was Toph--brave, free-spirited, smart, funny, loud, daring, troublemaker and has a soft spot for people she cares about.

She has her insecurities and she's blind and she doesn't let that ever, get her down.

3. As I grew up into my twenties I realize that I'd love to be like Aang.

I still consider Mai and Toph my faves from the series (I love everyone else too I just love these two more), but now it's like

I want to be a sincere, kind patient, and genuine person like Aang. A sunshine. Someone who's been thru a lot but still is nice to everyone (I'm not saying Toph and Mai aren't nice but that's not the first adjective you'd think of when you meet them loll)

Then, while I was thinking about them, I ended up remembering the side characters that I also really liked

These two are the ones that pop up immediately in my mind when I think of side characters I love.

June and Bumi --true neutral and chaotic good. I'm pretty sure Mai and Toph are of the same alignments too

June is a strong, witty, confident and cool character. My younger teen self adored her obviously. Bounty hunter lady with her pet? ADORE.

And what's not to like about chaotic Bumi? He's a maniacal mad genius. This old man lets himself get imprisoned and waited for the right moment to get the upperhand on the Fire Nation, then he earthbended out of it with HIS FACE.

And of course I love this old man Iroh. We all do. 🫂 🫂 I don't have to explain it.

He was wise, patient, kind, and witty. He loved tea too much. He lied about killing the last dragons. He basically raised Zuko to become a better person, he was the black sheep of his family and how lucky they were that he was

But I think at the end of the day I'm more like this guy

Man committed to his trade and things keep fcking up somehow-

Watching ATLA rn, I feel people are sleeping on Zuko's comedic potential as 01 ANGSTY DEADPAN EMOBOY (TM).

Tbh Sokka is awesome (love him, he's funny in a different way, he knows he is), but Zuko...He fucking told turtle seals (or so I guess?) To "be quiet" in ep 18, B1. 😂😂😂😂😂 I'm hollering.

Btw, screw Hahn. I think this is an excellent example of villains that keep you interested (Sifu Hotpants Zukes) vs annoying ones you jusr want to disappear off the face of earth (Hahn).

On a moral scale, Hahn while an asshole and an overall PITA to be around (classist, misogynistic, bratty) is not comparable to Zuko who is trying to catch the world's last hope and working for an evil super powered genocidal empire 🙃, BUT Hahn's cardinal sin is how boring and vain he is + his brand of evil feels more relatable for us viewers and he has no sob story to justify his actions, I guess.

I really feel for poor Sokka having had to work with that moron.
