ironically this got me thinking ‘this would be a really cool cosplay + prop’ once I got over the sheer terror of the situation and I starting thinking, oh, wouldn’t it be cool if you even had a sort of pinwheel mechanism (with the main body of it being hidden by her long hair) that rotated all of these pieces, and have you ever realized that there is a small piece of you that is the monster

also I just realized... she kept putting her glasses on as Junko. But I’m assuming she won’t ever wear them as Hajime. So it’s true - the moment she actually took off her glasses, we really did get to see her final form..

So this was invented completely from nothing??? My initial theory had them seeing themselves in someone else’s actual memories as themselves, and having their own brains play tricks on them that way - but all those scenes with them being interviewed by Makoto, of applying to Hope’s Peak, and possibly everything else about them - oh god - how powerful are these lights? How much detail was crammed into them? Can this all be done with a mere flash of a light???

‘We.’ Her use of ‘we’ is interesting, here. It really does feel like Tsumugi sees all of her cosplay personas as actual people that she can channel to ‘help her’ as opposed to just mere characters. Like entities fighting along side of her, not just through her...

So, just to clarify, there are three layers right now:

There’s us, the players. In a sense, we could be considered ‘equal but different than the tier’, but we do still operate on a plane separate from the metafiction of Tsumugi’s ‘everyone in the world’.

There’s the ‘audience’, the outside world. This is the space that’s been breached at this point. And this... this is the level where the students are from, too - aka the reason I think we and the audience should exist as separate entities.

And there’s the domain of the Killing Game, a space created to play out this story, using real people - a place separated from reality... how? If Tsumugi is talking about a set, it could easily be the real world, which means they’ve been isolated somewhere. At the same time though, when they managed to reach the end of the escape tunnel and saw the outside world, they all started to choke and suffocate. So... could this be VR still? Or no? Can these existences known as Shuichi Saihara, the Ultimate Detective, Maki Harukawa, the Ultimate Assassin, Himiko Yumeno, the Ultimate Robot, K1-b0, the Ultimate Robot, and even Tsumugi Shirogane, the Ultimate Cosplayer, leave this space in any way, shape or form... or not at all? Is them suffocating ^ like that a sign that they literally cannot exist outside of this space?

I have to say, I do like these little character touches - the decisions that have been made as to which ‘cosplay’ says what. I mean, it’s supposed to also act as a way to throw our known and loved favourites in our face too, but having Celes comment on how boring ‘peace’ is? Having Ibuki smashing through the fourth wall to speak directly to the audience, Gundham remarking on their abnormal existence and Leon commenting on how cool the ‘aesthetic’ of the title card is? It’s such a nice touch. also horrifying. butalsonice

Just as I initially suspected, though - they really were normal when they got in. So how did they decide who got what personality/talent, or was that random? I mean, that might be the case - it was potentially hinted by the motive video switch of Chapter 2..

............. Huh.

But..... in what sense? Like the 16 talents were stored in those lights and they were ‘picked up’ by the most suited participant? How could you make sure there were no doubles? Or - and this is possible because of the vague language - did the talents build on what the student knew already? In which case, how would they know what the talents would end up being and plan the labs around them?

No, it would... have to be... the first one. Talents had its own selection in the flashback creating machine, though without verifying what the subcategories are it’s hard to confirm or deny anything... but I also can’t shake what Maki said at the beginning of the game? How it felt like their talents were given at random?

So... so they’re not only back where they started - completely isolated with everyone they’ve ever known and the world they knew completely out of reach (in this sense, dead/not actually existing are functionally the same), but they get a helping of a totally warranted existential crisis on top of that.

And... their bodies are real, so everyone else really is dead. No happy sdr2 ending. Well, unless I mental-gymnastics that to read ‘they have physical bodies to return to, but as manufactured personas it’s pointless.’

I-It’s not a lie! Even if it was manufactured, even if it was coded into them - their feelings were real to them! It might be by design, but - oh this sounds so hollow. It’s one thing to talk about ‘fate’ and ‘this was the work of a higher power’, but having it brought down on you in such a trivial way must be absolutely soul-crushing.

tbh I never found Izuru that intimidating as a final villain in the last game - but here? Terrifying. Maybe it’s in contrast to Junko here, who has the overbearing destructive personality of a tornado, but the quiet emptiness and lack of a higher purpose, of absolute futility that he stands for here - that scares me a lot. Maybe it’s just because it seems to bring the concept of DR’s despair to a place that I can personally understand?

I keep saying ‘this is terrifying!’ but I mean, to be fair... it... kind of is. as always, fantastic use of text DRV3!

It reminds me of what Komaeda would say about his own motivation: it was watching everyone struggle with adversity, or the ‘despair of the killing game’, with the end goal of them ‘reaching hope’ - of seeing them overcome and grow stronger for it, that drove him forward. From the outside that makes sense; seeing other people overcome struggles, even ones so terrible, give us the mental strength to overcome our own problems. But for someone on the inside looking out... how perverse would that feel, to think that your suffering is basically being used as inspiration!p0rn? Knowing that there were voyeurs getting a kick out of your struggle?

What happens to game pieces after the game board is closed and put away?

Do they go into stasis? Do they just... exist, outside of time? Frozen forever, until they’re taken out to be ‘played with’ again; left to rot?

If they ‘win’.... they have no future. There’s nothing for them to move forward to reach. A piece learning that they’re a piece, and knowing their dreams after their trials will always stay just out of reach... how can anyone move foward like that?

… There never was a #2! What a shock. Not really.

God, now I have to get through the week again.

In no order:

Yes, I remember what happened last time.

Remembered to check the chibi Ryusoulger this time. It’s Red. So I guess this is a Kou ep? Or they’re just going in order, and the chibis are in no way related to the focus.

I’m now wondering if Banba folding his arms is his anxious tell? Like, it’s a defensive body posture. I’m too tired to make much sense of my own explanation rn, but it fits his issues, I think.

Also his hand is so tense, oh, honey… DX

I’m also trying to figure out exactly what he was doing w/ his hand… Like, maybe it was just a nervous fidget, but also kinda like he was picking at his nails somehow? For lack of a better description?

Why is Melto the only one who knows how to check a pulse?

I want to hug Banba so badly right now… This boys’ facial expressions are amazing. Like, you can tell he’s in agony over the fact that, as far as he knows, he, personally, destroyed the only way to save his brother.

Poor Kou having to chase Banba again. XD

Crayon trying to start his own YouTube channel… I like this guy. He’s both creepy and entertaining.

Also I would die for any of the mook suit actors in an instant.

I would kind of love to have had more to this scene. Like, how long do you think Banba spent trying to go after Crayon/walk on his own before Kou was able to get him back? I’d write it, but I just can’t seem to find the inspiration rn… DX

How often are they changing these cloths? Kou and Banba don’t seem to have been gone, like, ten minutes.

Banba really didn’t need to come off the wall for this, really. I love him, but the way he kinda lurches toward Melto there seems a little bit out of a horror film…

Honestly, I’m gonna miss Crayon and Tankjoh’s relationship. ‘You don’t get to laugh.’ (and just the deadpan way he says it) ‘Why be strict about that?’ XD I’m rather fond of their dynamic.

Crayon being unable to completely control the Minusaurs is so bloody hilarious to me. ^^

I guess Kou and Melto just have stronger immune systems?

Banba and Kou and their ‘don’t underestimate Kata Soul.’

… Okay, it’s probably not connected at all, and/or it’s just a recurring joke w/ this Minusaur, but… We know that the most recent (at least) traumatic event that happened to Kou involved Kata Soul… What if that Soul was also involved in some traumatic event that happened to Banba? Hell, maybe that’d be why he favours it. I dunno, I’m probably just spinning. But it came into my head when Kou essentially did the same thing Banba did against the other Cerberus Minusaur.

Now he’s dying, other people are dying, and most importantly to him, Touwa is dying. This has gotta be some of the most scared and desperate he’s ever been.

But, to do some random spitball theorising… Could there have been a situation where Banba felt like he screwed up, and then when he trusted someone to help they betrayed him in some way? No grounding for this, just musing.

But god, his reaction there makes me want to know more so badly…

I always wonder how much they tell the actors? Like, is it like Game of Thrones where they only tell them things that the characters would know? By that logic, Tatsuya may know what Banba’s side of the story is… Though I seem to remember that Keisuke said something that implied he didn’t know all of Kuro Woz’s backstory… Though maybe he was deflecting a question. I dunno.

Okay, it’s not actually that similar, but that cut from the dramatic scene of the others declaring they trust Melto and Kou/resigning to giving them a chance while also having some sort of secret trauma flashback or something over the concept of ‘trust’ (in Banba’s case) to Kou being yeeted into a pile of barrels made me think of that scene in Kyuranger where Lucky gives a speech about how much faith they have in Shou and what a great leader he is––and then it cuts to Shou screaming hysterically about how they’re all going to crash into the sun and die.

Kou is a very reckless oaf, and I love him to bits.

How did he even… I guess sheer force of will.

Honestly, Hayate is kind of rocking the awful ‘poisoned’ makeup, too.

Actually, to be honest, they all are.

Or maybe someone made the smart decision to tone down the makeup.

I’d call Master Red ‘Master Dad,’ but then what would I call Master Blue? Master Other Dad? Master Melto’s Dad? *insert shrug emoji here*

In case you were wondering, the sixth is going to be Gold. Here presented as… Saffron yellow? Bc gold was probably too over the top for a kebab menu.

I love how Melto went from so frightened of the Elder that he hid a banana behind his back to interrupting the guy when he’s talking. XD

Wait, so… Like. Was he the one they were originally meant to bring it to? Are he and Naohisa in cahoots? Did I accidentally skip a line? That’s actually very possible.

… Why. Why was I expecting science. Why did I actually think… Oh, forget it.

Okay, but did they have to make it yellow? There are plenty of juices. You could have made it any other colour.

Kinda wish we got to see them bring it back to the house. But I can understand the ‘dramatic reveal’ of them showing up to fight Tankjoh.

But you know Banba made sure Touwa was cured even before he was. XD

God, even w/ that wording… Banba’s still blaming himself. A) In apologising, and B) w/ the ‘I made you etc.’ It’s basically ‘I failed so you had to do it.’

Touwa calling him on makes me wonder if he does that a lot… Oh my gosh, is Banba also a compulsive apologiser? MY BABY! DX

Aaaaaaw. He gets so awkward and embarrassed. He’s so cute. XD <3

I’m still trying to parse out the look he gives Kou. It’s, like… Bemused? I guess? Like ‘you’re still saying that?’ Maybe? Though given the quick deep breath and how fast he rejects, maybe he was starting to have a ‘maybe we can trust him/them’ thought and felt like he needed to quickly shut it down.

All I could think of was the ‘I’m sorry, you must be a level 4 friend to unlock my tragic backstory’ tweet…

I love Kou’s expression and body language, bc it’s somewhere between becoming fondly amused and Banba’s grumpy tsundere nature, being like ‘Oooo! New friend project!’, and ‘Oh? That is that a challenge?’

To quite the King of Friendship himself: ‘I’m gonna become friends with you just to spite you.’ XD

Kou and Melto are less teasing Asuna, and more that they don’t want to look at the Elder in that outfit again. XD

I guess he wasn’t prophesying, and he has seen the trio more recently… But I’m still petty and will be sour if the brothers get excluded from whatever prophecies etc. there do end up being…

Like, they can do an ‘it’s all up to the original three’ in the end like Go-Onger, but only if they have the brothers pull a Hanto and Gunpei/Go-O Wings.

Preview: Don’t trust the sisters, and I suspect they have vocal powers, perhaps to control others. I do wonder if this is going t reveal more about the brother’s past at all as a parallel? Or we could be taking a break from that for now, which is also fine. I just request that they reveal it steadily as the team grows closer, and don’t just dump it all at the end or something.

I am excited for the brother’s backstory, and what happened to Banba, but I’d also be fine w/ taking a break from that as we move on to introduce the next General, who will likely hang around a bit longer than Tankjoh to show off the upped ante. Music is apparently going to be important, since we’ve got several former idol group members here. Also it said so on the official website, so I’m not blowing steam. I’m sure if we’ve got a cast member who can sing, there will be an ep where they sing (Asuna’s most likely, since she’s apparently a former idol?). Anyway, excited for this to continue, and anxious for the week to be over.

Happy birthday Tabitha!

i know i’m super late but have this humble fic written for Ignis birthday from a piece of Gladnis trash

“February 7th”, Ignis told quietly to himself while checking the calendar. Today it was his 23rd birthday. He didn't really felt like it was a ceremonious day. The number 23 wasn't really a milestone speaking of anniversaries. He got ready to start the day but he can never really start it without his obligatory cup of ebony. He prepared some before leaving his apartment. “Happy birthday to me” he deadpanned before taking a small sip from his cup. Only then he proceeded to leave his apartment to go to his workplace, to the citadel. He was going to train with Gladio just like every morning. It is pretty much his favorite time of the day. Because he gets to spend a good portion of his time with him. He had a crush that has just been growing for Gladiolus, it has been years since he first met Gladio, but his fascination with him when he sees him never changes a bit.

The future advisor didn't really hoped for any birthday messages, since pretty much no one except Gladio, Prompto and Noctis know it. He still checked his phone a couple times more during the first hours of the morning, even though he supposedly didn't really cared about his birthday. Noctis sent a message, but it was a false alarm. “Do you think you could help me with this math homework tonight”. And then Prompto. “Hey man have u seen noct”. He replied to them with what he admitted a little bit of disappointment. Even if he didn't bother that much his own birthday, a simple “congratulations” was always appreciated. He just shrugged it off and proceeded to the training room, Gladiolus should be waiting for him.

Ready for his daily training session with Gladio. He walked to the training room when he saw Gladio warming up. “Good morning, Gladio” He said in his usual friendly tone, he expected Gladio to say something about his birthday now, he actually has some memory capacity unlike others. “Morning” Gladio muttered by turning the back to Ignis. The younger man heard a different tone in his training partner's voice. “Today we will have the usual routine right?” The spectacled man questioned. “No. I have to leave early today. I have things to do”. Ignis felt that something was off in the way the older man answered him. “Is there something wrong?” He asked with a hint of worriness in his voice. “No, I just, have to go home and fix some things” He replied in a monotonous voice.

They started their routine, like always, but it lasted so little, barely half an hour, while they usually take three. “I have to leave now, i'm sorry Ignis” The spectacled man noticed that there was something wrong when Gladiolus didn't call him by the nickname imposed by Gladio himself. Ignis didn't remember calling him other than that for so long. And then the older man just stared at him in cold way in comparison in how he does normally. “See you later, bye”. Gladiolus simply took his stuff and left the room, leaving Ignis confused in the training room. He leaved the room too, but not before thinking in how Gladio could forget his birthday.

The morning became afternoon, and the afternoon became night. Ignis took of his day like any other. Finishing off his final daily duties, he marched off the citadel and drove right to Noctis apartment. While driving, however, Ignis couldn´t stop thinking about what happened in the training room with Gladiolus. He knew that Noctis nor Prompto have not said a thing about his birthday but he wasn't really bothered, he is conscious that they have their own busy lives. But Gladio's attitude towards him actually made him upset. Why the older man stared at him in such an unfamiliar way?. He couldn´t exactly point out that stare as expressed annoyance, or disgust, or anything like that. But at the same time, it just kept him overthinking about the situation. He just kept thinking 'Why if Gladio didn´t like me anymore?', 'Why am I giving this so much importance?'. He couldn't stop saying that to himself as a way to unconsciously reassure that there was nothing wrong with him or their relationship, he probably just forgot it because he's lost in his own problems and that's why he's so distant .But in reality, the fact that he has been treated with a distinctive coldness by Gladio, the man he cares about so much and he looks up to everyday on his own birthday, worried him. A lot.

He eventually found a little bit of inner peace when he turned on the radio and put on his preferred classical music station, even if at first he remembered how much he loved to listen it with Gladio. How they shared the time together only listening to it and enjoying each others company... He arrived to his destination. The short walk to Noctis apartment was peaceful, greeting the usual people that took care of the building. While walking, the only thoughts that filled his mind was what he was going to prepare for dinner, in what condition the apartment was left by Noctis this time... Those thoughts were abruptly interrupted when instead of finding the usual empty (and dirty) apartment, he found Gladiolus, arranging a fancily decorated table, with a beautiful birthday cake on the center, but that was definely far from being the center of attention. Ignis was utterly smitten by the older man, Gladiolus looked so handsome wearing a simple outfit composed of white shirt, jeans and a leather blazer. He just internally thanked the gods for such a beautiful sight.

“Ignis, you're early!. I'm sorry, it was a surprise and you arrived, a liiitle early”. Ignis just stood there in awe with his mouth slightly gaped, he was, quite surprised, to sat the least. He was just removed from his trance when Gladio just took him in his big arms and embraced him in what he thought it was the warmest hug he had ever received. The younger man could just reciprocate the hug from the bigger man, and they made it last for a moment, even though they didn't want it to end.

“Gladio, What was that?, I thought there was something wrong!, you had me worried” Ignis finally pulled it from his chest. “I'm sorry Iggy, I had to keep you far, otherwise I wouldn't be able to organize this without looking suspicious. since we basically work together, it would have ruined the 'surprise element'. He replied Ignis question with what the younger man perceived as a quite smug tone. “You did this alone?”. Before Gladio could reply, Noctis and Prompto came through the door holding a present each. “Aaaaaaw! Dude! I told you we were late!, the 'surprise element' was ruined! Thanks Noct!”. “Oh c'mon Buying presents ain't easy”. Ignis just smiled at their little argument. “Happy Birthday Specs, sorry for the delay”, Noctis said to Ignis while giving him a quick and shy birthday hug, which contrasted to Prompto's enthusiastic 'bear hug' that almost choked Ignis.

Ignis couldn't help but smiling so hard he even thought his cheeks hurted a little. He was infinitely grateful for the wonderful friends he had made through the years. The fact that they did all this for him almost made him cry. “Guys, you are amazing, thank you so much for this”. He realized that he couldn't love them more, and that his place was with them, supporting each other always. “You don't have to thank us, we do this because you are such an indispensable person to us, you take care so much of us and we have to pay you back for that somehow”, Noctis voiced how much he appreciated who has been his caretaker for so many years. “Thank you your Highness”. Ignis replied.

“Ignis I... I have... something important to say... to you”. Their older friend slightly stumbled upon his words. “What's wrong Gladio?” Ignis questioned with slight exasperation, as it was expected from a worry wart like him. “It's just... Ignis... I wanted to tell you, how important you are to me, and... that these years we had spent together, they have been enough for me, to figure out... That I want to keep spending my time with someone like you” Ignis listened to Gladio's words while getting the most flustered he has ever got in his entire life. He couldn't believe that this wonderful man he admired and cherished for a long time was telling him all these beautiful things, the one man that Ignis now know is the love of his life, was asking him to stand by his side, and he couldn't be happier for it.

Gladio gave Ignis a gift box and he asked him to open it. The spectacled man found in it a simple, but beautiful necklace with a skull pendant. “You gave me this necklace, the one I wear every single day. I hope you treasure this one as much as I do mine”. Gladio then took Ignis by the hands and kissed them. “I love you Ignis”, he looked at Ignis eyes with so much love and affection. “Gladio” Ignis thought his heart would explode of so many encased emotions, he could just answer Gladio by pulling him into a deep but tender kiss. The younger man felt a single tear running through his cheek, he felt so happy and fullfilled, all the doubts he had in the past, gone, with so little words, he knew that their love was requited.

“Aheeem” Noctis interrumpted, “Sorry lovebirds but, as for me... I really really want a slice of this cake”, “Ignis! Please! Do us the honour! I'm starving in here!” Prompto followed Noctis request. Ignis chuckled at their eagerness. “Ok, Ok. Don't die on me here”. Gladiolus sneaked behind his boyfriend and whispered in his ear “hopefully we will be able to ditch them quickly”. Ignis couldn't help but blush at Gladio's statement. “I'm looking forward to that”
