Hii hii, this is my first post on this sideblog so here's some scug designs! I should note I almost never stick to one design for one slugcat and love to make multiple designs (in fact I have like 7 spearmaster designs alone lol) these are more of a specific design set? If that makes sense?

Some design notes!

The mark of communication appears as a physical marking, usually one that matches the sigal of the iterator who gave the marking! Think warrior cats getting leader markings, in a sense.

Spearmaster:

yellow parts, including spears, whisker tips, and whiskers appear florescent depending on certain lighting.

They got the mark of communication from moon on the way to visit Pebbles during their campaign!

Their sun marking got scarred over after the pearl was ripped out, making it look like a solar eclipse

Artificer:

'fur' on their tail is like sandpaper and is meant to aid in kickstarting explosive jumps! Their Pups also have it, its a trait of their subspecies!

Hunter:

I wanted to make them look like they were made from various scraps patched together and such since I headcanon NSH did the iterator equivalent of grabbing whatever he could from the kitchen and slapping it together in his rush to help Moon, (it's also how/why they got rot, oops!)

Gourmand:

They have matching patches on the side of their faces that when put together, form a heart!

Rivulet:

I like to imagine they got their MOC from Chasing Wind, for no other reason than I enjoy the idea of Chasing Wind having a smidge more relevance lol

Saint's coat is partially white to camouflage with the snow, however on max karma there isn't really a need for that I think, so instead the white parts turn black with gold specks , honestly that also works better for blending in inside Rubicon

ok so i was legit when i said i wanna remake all the splashes in anthro form so inevitably i would have to come up with designs for surv and monk's parents. like sam, they are my half-ocs lol

in the process of doing the above sketch, i got big brain ideas that I'm being committed to.

The Chieftain is the leader of surv and monk's colony and The Maiden is his wife (they are androgynous and use any/all but he/him and she/her will be used throughout). They are very skilled in combat, evident by the scars on their faces and frequently go on expeditions as their colony is starting to have a resource problem (Gourmand does come back eventually and sort of fixes it though). They were forced to bring their kids because they had nobody else to look after them (the lack of resources was really becoming an issue to the point that barely anyone stays in their home), and they later found Samaritan on the way as an orphan (as my personalized explanation as to why they do not appear at the very start of the intro cutscenes).

I just want to make the cute and funny connection that the placement of the eye scars are similar to arti and hunter, to really add on that they are essentially the two's sort of foster parents once they lost their own. I mean, I do not say that they're basically replacing them- more like a sort of symbolism (watching over them, protection, reminiscing, reminders, connections, etc...). I also feel like the parents would indeed be very protective of their own children to the point that they would always take the hits.

That is... until the incident happens. Then they lose Monk who naiively promises them "I'll come back with my big sister! Don't worry mommy! Please don't cry!", and then they lose Samaritan to a desperate vulture when trying to find a shelter. They do find the shelter, but losing all three of their kids have utterly broken them.

Heavily traumatized from the incident and believing that they will never see their children ever again (and the whole resource problem that's been leading them downhill since), they decide to go on their personal journey of enlightenment, to cut off feeling negativity from worldly attachments and eventually ascend. And they did it successfully, unfortunately.

If there was a little more time (to realize that their kids are still out there all along and the resource problem will be fixed), they would still be with surv and monk.

(Or one from a mod lol)

Anyway, on to the ask.

For those unfamiliar, the Slugcats are the playable characters in the game Rain World.

And look at how adorable they are:

Honestly, I was debating on just keeping him purely Survivor because Survivor is white.

But let’s shake it up a bit.

Desmond’s slugcat ‘type’ changes depending on various conditions:

He’s primarily the white Survivor (base stats) when he’s alone or doing his own thing. This is how his ancestors first saw Desmond and how he’s usually described later in history as a symbol of the Brotherhood.

He turns gold (yeah, not yellow) as the Monk when he’s safe with one of his ancestors, usually curled around the neck and hidden by both the hood and the robes itself. He’s quite warm in this state and tends to purr a lot. He tends to not be that combat-oriented in this state.

He turns red as the Hunter when he’s… well… hunting mostly. Looking for and stalking preys would usually turn him red. Ratonhnhaké:ton is the ancestor who sees this a lot.

He turns into the plump Gourmand when he has eaten quite a lot. This happens a lot with the Auditores because they just love to feed him. He’s slower but he can use his larger body to slam against things and other people. More often than not, he just rolls into a ball and tries for strikes.

Artificer (magenta?) and Spearmaster (purple) are the states that usually appears before Altaïr.

Spearmaster appears when Altaïr has no more throwing knives and he would use the spear that appears on Desmond’s tail instead. Because of this Altaïr actually changed to Desmond’s spears instead (since they’re about the same size of his throwing knife) and Desmond usually helps and flicking his tail turns the spear into a projectile weapon whenever they’re forced into open combat.

Artificer first appeared when Altaïr started working on the hidden gun and his explosive capabilities are usually used for control demolitions. Artificer is more or less just studied when he was with Altaïr. It’s Ezio who turns Desmond into a walking timebomb of distraction and demolition. The requirement to making Desmond an artificer seems to be that he had to smell gunpowder. He turns into an Artificer once he sneezes.

Rivulet (water) is the easiest state to change to. Get Desmond wet and he’d turn into a Rivulet. As long as he’s wet, he’ll stay a Rivulet but… once he’s dry, he’ll return to being a Survivor unless there’s another state requirement being fulfilled (like being wrapped in a warm blanket to dry off while in his ancestor’s arms would turn him into a Monk instead).

Saint’s (green) requirement is a bit of a mystery though but the most possible explanation is that Desmond turns into a saint when he needs to freerun and thinks he needs to use the Saint’s long tongue to grapple and swing from ceilings, walls, tree branches, etc. Saint’s the most frail of his states and Desmond tries to change his states as soon as possible whenever he turns green.

… I feel like whenever one of his ancestors die, Desmond gets a slugpup (maybe it just… splits from him? Or it slithers out of the ancestor’s body?) and follows Desmond around. The slugpup doesn’t shift states but usually tries to help Desmond whenever it can. Desmond’s pretty sure they’re reincarnated slugpup of his ancestors… or maybe he just wants to believe that. Slugpups are very affectionate towards Desmond and Desmond treats them more like his kids than minions.

Desmond names his Slugpups on the ancestor they ‘come from’. Slugpup!Altaïr has the Dominance trait which means he will pick up things he thinks he can use and use them. This is usually not weapon and more like utility items like smoke bombs and even just food he would give to Desmond once he starts to feel sluggish. He also likes to stay with the other slugpups and Desmond isn’t sure if he’s acting as their leader or their big brother… maybe both? Slugpup!Ezio is more on the Energy side and he tends to grab shiny things that are usually expensive af. Slugpup!Ratonhnhaké:ton is an Aggression type and prefers to have a weapon. Mostly, he would have a spear or one of the Assassins’ throwing knives.

Max 10 Speedrun

I have not posted in over 6 months so now i need to catch up on all the ben 10 art i have not posted hueheuhe. Also have some asks which i will get to !!

Swampfire! Tried to honor the bloomed design with the collar and bright fingers even though i really hate it in the show (lol) also gave him 1 eye to represent his weak eyesight. Also the weakness i gave him about the fire burning him shouldve been a thing in the show tbh

Echo echo, tried to go for a more boomboxy vibe bc yk boomer Max. I like the idea of aliens looking extremely different while still being the same species (not a subspecies like murk and perk gourmands, thats cool too but different)

Humungo. I actually was never a big fan of him lmao, i always thought you need to do more with him than just "dinosaur" especially with that color scheme he has in the show. I got the idea to give him feathers to show the drastic change in age also bc i love chicken dinos and think they should appear more. Fun fact the power change come from what i used to think his powers worked like when i was a kid

Jeffrey!! One of my fav aliens ever. Not much about this is special just bigger with different colors. I also took a few notes from the concept art with the weirdo shaped eyes and having his body be a mantaray with legs sticking out to make him less humanoid, since ben's jetray design looks more like a man with wings than a mantaray with legs yk?

Another screenshot redraw!! This is the only other one ive done sadly, i really oughta make more screenshot redraws tbh. This one is of the scene where kevin and ben get chased by the entire frickin fbi or something for stealing a video game. I imagine in this version max chases after them and comes for the rescue

Lodestar! Never been much of a special alien. Design on the right is made by me aswell since i wanted to do my own spin on bens lodestar (basically the same just give him longer arms). Once again he has 1 eye to represent max's eyesight problems

Brainstorm! Instead of giving him specially weaker eyesight i made his shell cover his eyes as the way to visually represent that (as well as the classic squinty eyes i have going on for each alien

Also i got asked while making this how come maxstorm is so big when psychobos is also old and visibly smaller, and my answer to that was that third image. In my head i always saw psychobos as sort of disfigured and mutated, and not representative of what is typical for his species. If he were to turn into a human thatis what i think hed look like

Goop! I always loved goop, and the idea of a ufo antigrav device helping him navigate because hes not built for earths gravity is a super unique and cool idea. However i i wanted to go for something entirely different with my goop since i never liked the idea of the omnitrix creating non-clothes for the user (bc then you have to consider that it would create a respirator for ripjaws, and thats lame)

And thats all!! Id expect myself to have made as many Max 10 drawings since i stopped posting as before, but sadly i have slowed down significantly over time, especially on max 10. Im not really happy about it and im trying to be a fast artist again but its not coming to me. On the brightside though, ive got a fair bit of other Ben 10 stuff to show!!

Quantum by @infernopkz VERSUS The Listener by @hecking-heavy - Round 2 Set 2

Quantum- Description:

They have the ability to scale metal-based walls due to having magnetic paw pads (walls that can normally be interacted with; not background walls). The scaling speed is about the same as the average crawling speed. Quantum is incapable of walking upright. They move slightly faster than hunter/artificer (1.35). Due to this, they can only hold one item (in their mouth) and store one item (in their stomach). They are better at evasion than offense. To compensate for their inability to throw rocks and spears, they can maul for 0.5 damage. They can eat plants and insects (aka default diet). They have 3 food pips that need to be filled, but can't store any for the next cycle. Other stats not mentioned are the same as default.

Story:

Quantum was created by two iterators, Nebulous Wisdom and Continental Horizon. The purpose of their creation was to help keep Wisdom alive, who has been dealing with severe system failures her entire life due to faulty construction. They decided to create a slugcat who has been modified to be a cyborg, with the main benefit being an iterator neuron ending inspired tail. This is to allow them to easily communicate with Quantum while they're inside the structure. Their legs are also mechanical, which gives them high stamina for the longer trips through the structure. Quantum can't fix existing major problems, but they can fix smaller problems to prevent those from getting worse. When they're not busy performing maintenance, they hang out in the world or around their structures.

Fun Facts:

They can display pretty much whatever they want on their visor, though they usually just default to eyes :) And also they can communicate to iterators through their tail, though it's like talking to a 1-2 year old for the iterator lol

The Listener- Description:

She has the ability to tune into broadcasts, just like Spearmaster, along with extremely good hearing in general (indicators would appear when off-screen enemies take a step, white lizards and dropwigs would be more obvious, etc). On the other hand, she gets Gourmand's mobility and spear damage without the crafting. She'd play on Artificer's map, having the drone but a much higher reputation with the scavengers.

Story:

She was a natural-born slugcat whose ears either weren't ever on her head or were ripped off in a terrible encounter with a red lizard. In the lore, she was the one responsible for reactivating an iterator known as Wandering Mind (who I'll be submitting for the iterator OC tournament) by essentially pulling a Rivulet three times. Minds was grateful enough to manufacture a pair of bionic ears for her to use, adding in all these features. Now she just hangs out, listening to broadcasts and keeping the local scug and scav colonies up to date on iterator affairs.

Fun Facts:

Yes, she revived an entire iterator. Yes, she still needs therapy.

my physical appearance scug headcanons !

spearmaster - mildly slimey. sparse coarse short fur. petting with the fur direction feels smooth and a little cold. against feels like being mildly stabbed. very thin and light body. slightly bigger than the average slugcat. doesnt have lower jaw or digestive system. has whiskers. weird whiskers so i felt the need to mention em here.

artificer - long coarse fur. has whats essentially a mane. furs very thick and explosion resistant. massive compared to other slugcats. compared to iterator puppets aswell lol. scars should be covered by fur by now but arti keeps exploding and getting into fights so they arent.

hunter - sharp teef. short fur, a bit moist but not overly so. damp. a bit drier than surv+monk. scars are actually rather fresh. normal size.

gourmand - big. large. big ol slugcat. dry. short fur. very warm. lots of muscle under the fat and fluff. lots of scars under the fur. gourmand actually has slugcat healthcare

survivor - normal slugcat size. short wet fur. fur gets subtly darker on ears, paws, tail, and nose. like a point cat. not by much but its there.

monk - bit small. wet but with short fur. has speckles of white across nose and tail (:

rivulet - small. itty bitty. chubby. big ol eyes. no fur. just slime. wet beast. creature. feels like a frog. cold and slimey and wet. thick skin. has darker blue stripes but theyre kind of hard to see especially when moving at top speed. big ol paws.

saint - 2 layers of fur, a thicker yellowish one and a fluffier greener one. thick sticky saliva to keep tongue from freezing and to stick to things. dull teeth. average slugcat size but youd never know under the fur. big ol paws like a lynx

first appearance of survivor and hunter, i did them in an aggie with my kismesis... although i drew on half of the canvas,, survivor looks very disasterous here because i was struggling to give them the most "neutral" clothes (the lines on their skirt is the the survivor karma/symbol) (ill get to it in the next image

concept ideas for all of the symbols for the scugs, originally was going to also include the karma theyre associated with, but i quickly dropped that realizing how "complex" it would be on their designs, especially rivulets. you can actually still see this in monks design! their necklace still has the monk karma on it x)

more survivor outfit failures... i think this would look too weird for me + unconventional in an environment where they have to run around the world (thats why i gave most of them shorts/clothes that make them move better. except for saint of course.) also, survivor with this outfit looks like toriel LOL

i reeeeaaaaally disliked spearmasters older design. it looks uncomfortable. there was another one where they wore long black gloves and thigh highs (again, i did not like it so i deleted it and kept redrawing it.) sm also appears more spiky here, but the texture was too rough for me if that makes sense. i did not like the scarf either...

oh, yeah. i kept the artificer pose from this because it was too cool to let go !!! amazing considering i drew it with my finger on ibis paint haha

this is the sketch for the second bundle of the designs, again i borrowed the artificers pose from the previous one x)) nothing to say much other than this is where i redrew the spearmaster (i still did not keep their long cape still, you can still see it in this sketch though)

heres the third bundle... i changed the rivulets pose because they looked like they were holding in a pee........... saint looked too dramatic so i changed it too

speaking of saint, this is their older design, i didnt keep the long hair because i thought it looked a bit too silly. i still prefer the one with short hair! also rivulet has way more frills in this than their current design

and hey! speaking of rivulet, coming back to this. i kept changing their colors because something was bothering me and i couldnt figure it out! was satisified enough with the current one though

going back to saint again, i was going to make them have a pink robe but it blended in with the tongue too much so i made it orange instead! strawberry saint would be... very interesting though!

now to the other stuff that doesnt have art/purely just text

heres vibes i wanted to have for each of the scugs and their shape language

monk = friendly, energetic, joyful, some sort of childish shape

survivor = neutral, unsure, wary, a mix of shapes intented to not make you feel anything

hunter = hostile, cool, alert, sharp shape

downpour ones!!

gourmand = "cool uncle" energy (i dont know how to explain it), silly, round shapes

artificer = dangerous, rough, unhinged, spiky shape

spearmaster = mysterious, elegant but still dangerous, agile, sharp shapes

rivulet = the "athletic dude" (gender neutral), bubbly (get it?), very long shape (i also made them the tallest scug due to how tall swimmers are the fastest)

saint = smirky, calm, quiet, cozy shape

id also like to mention this- the reason why hunters clothes are purple is because they are associated with nsh! not a detail that many people notice. also another thing that i put thd detail in, since monk and survivor are siblings i made their clothing styles similar to each other!!! the brainrot goes so hard!!!! i think thats enough rambling,, as i have many things to do..

drags myself out of hell I BEAT HUNTER. SOMEHOW. granted it definietly wasn't the best hunter experience i'll definietly revisit their campaign later... do you have any recommendations for what campaign i should attempt next? i thought about gourmand or spearmaster, rivulet maybe, but their incredibly short cycles,,,, not the best after playing a slugcat where i had to hurry constantly (i do still love riv though. my silly). i think based on how everything is going downpour is going to beat me to death 😔😔 /hj plan my funeral cookie

as for my bastard scug ocs:

the traitor - a bloodthirsty slugcat, wanting nothing but pain upon anyone and everyone. they're based on the outlaw loading screen description; "all that come near are slain, friend and foe alike". they often try to get creatures on their good side before using them to kill others and eventually betraying them. they're not dumb though, prefering to make others trust them, even a little, before putting a spear in their head.

the explorer - an adventurous and curious slugcat, wanting to know all there is about this cruel world and it's inhabitants. they task themselves with writing and drawing about their findings. the explorer is a very skilled climber, fast and light, better then all other slugcats. they aren't very strong in combat, but they're not afraid to fight back when threatened. they have an intense hatred of water, swimming rather slowly and running out of breath fast. they owned a journal full of their knowledge, but at this point its scattered all around the world. they appeared before survivor and monk and died to the rot trying to fully explore five pebbles. they like looks to the moon a lot though, bringing her drawings here and there.

WOWWW GOOD JOB ON HUNTER! i didn't even beat hunter when i first played the game lol that's so awesome! (granted i was trying to be VERY optimized with my playthrough so i kept resetting and getting mad instead of just playing the game lol)

honestly, i HIGHLY recommend going in the campaign unlock order for all the slugcats (gourmand/artificer, spearmaster, rivulet, saint) because the story reveal and experience is just so good that way. i played all the slugcats and have been playing them for a while and so i love them all now, but artificer and spearmaster in particular are VERY difficult to start out with. rivulet not so much though! the short cycles are honestly not that bad if you know where you're going. it's other things in the campaign you'll need to worry about. but that's spoilers... :-) so basically, for story and experience go for gourmand or artificer first. you won't regret it. (when you get to the rivulet/spearmaster unlock PLAY SPEARMASTER FIRST. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. very important)

Her again on the day of the Rockstud Spike is a standard small sheepskin black models, the above rivets are Replica Valentino Bags regular champagne. Yes hello. Monster Drama would be the name I’ve given to a particular set of OC’s that I’ll be giving a medium-hard reboot in the near future.  They are monsters and there is drama between them.  and also i’ll be rping them lol

I had an informal interest check earlier.  At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I’m holding another more in-depth one.  Under the cut, you can find short-ish descriptions of each faction (each faction will get their own blog) and of the more important characters within that faction (each faction has about 6 to 8 members that can be interacted with).  

Having some feedback will help me to focus on one (or two) factions to start with before I gradually add the other factions later.

💔 Ore Horde 💔

A vicious militia of renegade merfolk who have garnered a fearful reputation in the eyes of outsiders.  Their hands are sullied with the blood of many royals and noble people.  This apparently blood-thirsty horde, however, seems to avoid bringing harm to average citizens.

They were founded by the Gourmand (R): an infamous man-o-war warlord that even the gods watch their backs in the presence of. He’s often accompanied with his introverted protégé and adopted daughter, Static (L): an otherworldly creature whose appearance sticks out among the others like a sore thumb, although she wishes she could just be normal.

🧡 Topaz Corp 🧡

Stationed in an advanced mega-city, the elites of Topaz Corp have grown so rich and powerful that they very literally govern the people.  A shiny veneer of pastel lights and grandiose entertainment spectacle make an effort to hide the iron grip of the reigning puppet masters.

Those who see beyond the surface may very easily peg the eldritch god Tabs (R) as the real owner of the corporation, despite their propagandist efforts to redirect attention.  Yet another strange creature called Huey (L) though, is utterly dazzled by the city’s materialist culture and naively seeks to break out of being a humble cameraman and become famous.

💛 Rosegold Kingdom 💛

In a fantastical castle in the clouds above the trifles of the world below, the tiny court of Rosegold Kingdom live easy and decadent lives.  Life in this heavenly place has left it’s residents mostly ignorant as to the struggles below to the point that many don’t even give the ground-dwellers any thought at all.

Empress (L), though, the empathetic princess-in-all-but-name of the kingdom finds the below world fascinating and, in true princess fashion, dreams of more. Her elegant but dry-humored suitor, Marshmallow (C), is often dragged into adventures with her, whether they want it or not.  The rosegold queen, the enigmatic and unsettlingly tranquil Ari (R), may or may not be privy to Empress’s explorations.

💚 Emerald Commune 💚

A small group of forest-dwelling folk who have made a concerted effort to isolate themselves from the dangerous outside world.  Although their policy is generally that of self-sufficiency, most of the population is amicable toward outsiders so long as they are treated amicably in kind.

The commune was once a monarchy, but after the unsolved murder of her family, the would-be heiress, Regina (R), has relinquished her power and changed the system to be more democratic.  Her most steadfast supporter is her lover Jelly (L), a laid back mortician; he very publicly had a hand in her decision to abolish the monarchy, earning him the ire of certain people... his family, in particular.

💙 Sapphire Regency 💙

The domain of a powerful ice fairy that has a dark, frigid and inhospitable exterior meant to turn away those who are unfortunate enough to cross the gates leading to her realm.  At the center of the territory is a large city that is, while still mysterious, is more welcoming than the lands surrounding it.

The ice queen herself, Nil (C), is not unlike the kingdom she built for herself; being a cold spiky ball of coping mechanisms with maybe a slightly nicer core if you’re lucky.  Her adopted daughter, Owl (L), is a source of warmth in the land of ice, being friendly and creatively inclined, if a bit eccentric.  In stark contrast to Owl, is Nil’s melancholic majordomo, Napoleon (R), who will often be the first to greet lost wonderers.

💜 Amethyst Empire 💜

Amethyst Empire is a highly hostile rag-tag (and generally unwillingly captured) team of outcasts who live within a dense, humid jungle.  Explorers of the forest beware, for here there be dragons.  

The dragon themselves, the aptly-named Trash (L), is, to put it in no uncertain terms, an entitled narcissist man-baby with a crap-ton of power-- that’s exactly why they’re so terrifying. Their (usually) right-hand raptor is the aging butler Bittersworth (R) who never fails to be a “cheeky lizard bastard” and is too old for any of this.

reminds me, im not sure if the modcat owners are chill with me still continuing to portray their slugcats considering... what happened. (but believe me that i would never fucking do weird stuff to em since i see them practically as other peoples' ocs- this includes shipping them)

but if they do have problems with it, they oughta tell me. id respect their decisions either way. i dont want to further discomfort them. (i also dont want to bring it up to them myself if its okay to still use them. honestly i dont think anyone here wishes to talk about that and its just awkward idk?)

anyway- ill make several of em brief.

dronemaster - created by an iterator? sent to study the new age of civilization and possibly destroy it, but could not. befriends sporecat

sporecat - a gardener and rain deer rider, they help gourmand with agricultural impacts.

beecat - takes care of pups in orphanage. teaches them too. goes on expeditions sometimes to discover certain trees.

wanderer - suns' first slugcat creation. after realizing they delivered a bad pearl to pebbles, they hid away from society in shame until spearmaster discovered their existence and helped them come out of the shadows.

martyr - an echocat who constantly bothers saint after discovering that they're both stuck in the strangest form of a cycle. often torments them but also cares for them.

lancers - orphan siblings who look out for each other. bear some striking resemblance to monk, survivor and hunter but is purely coincidental.

friend and poacher - also siblings who look after each other. have contrasting personalities. friend befriends lizards and poacher kills them. cue the shenanigans. friends of monk.

noircat - friend's love interest but very casual about the relationship. would later befriend survivor.

wingcat - a messenger of sorts who came from a faraway place. decided to hang around seeing a civilization develop. friends with vinci and other prankster cats. attracted to batcat.

batcat - a loner type. appears in the shadows. if edge is a word i can use, i shall, but its up to faeling lol. is friends with wingcat and is attracted to em.

vinci - one of the prankster types who hates pebbles and draws graffiti often on their can.

nomad - a gliding slugcat from a faraway land who has streetsmarts but isnt so smart. feeling ashamed for letting their old village burn, they walk alone- but befriends another slugcat named Arbiter, who accompanies them.

arbiter - nomad's close friend. the creation of an iterator who is long passed. initially wanted to stay their shambled place, but decided to leave and really explore the world with their bestie nomad. is the actual streetsmart and smart, but appears quite menacing and shady.

pearlcat - a strange slugcat from faraway, arriving in a mysterious working train. alongside her is her pup named junior. she wields the power of pearls and would later befriend artificer. she would share the knowledge she has to gourmand.

 raymond headcanons.. they aren't entirely fleshed out and they're like "what if it was like this? that makes sense". so sorry if things dont quite make sense or isn't that thought out.. also there may be errors here and there but this isn't supposed to be a polished document its just a rough collection of headcanons i haven't done much with other than like... thinking of them lol

some of this stuff i've posted before but i'm going to reshare again

polokus in origins is described as "an artist and unabashed hedonist" and i see him as just that. immature. he loves all his creations, of course, but he's not exactly responsible. he sees the nymphs more as friends than his daughters. he's more concerned with people liking him than doing the right thing. when he has his first bad dream, he cowers and doesn't want to do anything about it, or he's too scared? this leads to betilla having to do everything herself, she gets help from the other nymphs and creates rayman

the masks of polokus represent his different formes, or perhaps different eras. polokus is a shapeshifter and can be whatever he wants to of course, but he has a "default" he likes to stick with. when he finally changes his "default", a mask is made of the previous forme. for example, polokus from rayman 2 and polokus from the ubiart games are him in different "eras" if that makes sense. their cultural and historic significance could be expanded upon definitely i think but i havent thought too much more into that lmao. the wiki on rpc says that the four kings look like the masks but that sounds more speculative and feels like a stretch. i don’t buy that at all, i don’t see the resemblance

polokus loves all forms of art, and as a result, a lot of the glade's "religion" boils down to being creative and creating, and a lot of magic in general require some form of art, such as dancing for certain spells (the way teensies open portals in r2 or w/e). the people of the glade create art, sing, dance, to keep polokus inspired, amused, and happy so he doesn't have any more bad dreams. i thought about the nymphs all having a corresponding art form, with, obviously, holly being music and edith being culinary, but im not sure what annetta or helena would be. helena maybe textiles... annetta im not sure what i would do with her since she's the most... withdrawn nymph

polokus’ feelings on rayman’s existence are complicated since he is the only creature not created by him. he doesn’t know what he’s capable of, but he’s done a lot already in terms of stopping nightmares and foreign threats such as the pirates. he’s impressed, intrigued... a bit intimidated maybe..... he respects rayman and does love him (polokus has to love every creature after all)

im not sure if the muse of the poets is considered to be actual canon since it appears she was only mentioned in a license guide and not in any other official media. but she's a popular character and i like her too so she gets mentioned. she and polokus fall in love and she has their children, the teensies. she is disgusted by them and runs away, leaving them and polokus forever. she is disgusted by herself, too. if her children are ugly, she must be ugly as well. she becomes obsessed with making herself beautiful, and having beautiful children. she eventually becomes begoniax, which you know how that turns out...

betilla: polokus' pride and joy, she loves him as a father, but is disappointed with his lack of responsibility. when she was younger she was very mischevious and much like him. she learned magic just to be able to pull pranks perform elaborate pull magic tricks. eventually when the first bad dream happened, it was a wake up call. she tried to get him to do something about jano but he wouldn't respond to her. she took matters into her own hands since she was the most magically capable of anyone she knew. with the help of the other nymphs, they created rayman. she's been the "responsible" one ever since. if you catch her in a good mood she might be a bit playful but her days of frivolity are long gone. likes to knit and crochet when she has the time (which is rarely), and spend time with her sisters.

other nymphs: i dont have quite as many headcanons about them, but they are rayman's aunts obviously. edith is rayman's favourite aunt since she's a good cook, followed by holly, who has taught him everything he knows about music. helena is very enthusiastic and a bit overbearing. annetta is the aunt that never shows up to anything

the nymphs all have an element tied to them. betilla and fee de la mort obviously being life and death. holly is air, edith is fire, anetta is water, and helena is earth. seems pretty obvious this part but i've rarely seen ppl attribute helena with earth despite the fact she lives on a mountain...? (stone men, stone dogs, golly g....)

ly is interested in the magical workings of the world and is especially fascinated with lums and their power. betilla sees her potential as a magic user and has accepted her as her pupil. another reason betilla has taken a liking to ly is that she reminds her of her own youth, since ly is fairly playful as well, using magic for tricks. ly is initially just interested in rayman because of the fact he's a being entirely made out of lums, but it eventually turns into a genuine, and close, friendship.

a lot of fairies and some teensies can make "weak" silver lums to give to rayman, but they might not do much, or the effects are temporary. only ly and the nymphs are able to give rayman powers with "stronger" silver lums.

polokus does not dream of every individual in the glade. he dreamt of the first peoples of each species, then they procreate by themselves. most places in the glade are natural, similar to earth, but polokus' dreams may affect them (the icy parts of gourmand land is an obvious example. giant fruit? that's silly)

teensies: naturally hairless and there is little dimorphism between the sexes. their fashion is inspired by the fairies', and have adopted to wear wigs, false eyelashes, fake facial hair, etc. all teensies have the ability to perform magic but they have to actively for it to be useful. teensies with an interest in magic will attend a magic school. the best of the best of teensie magic users can become a minimus, and, of course, the best out of THEM become the grand minimus. there are many teensie races, and each may vary in size, colour (turquoise like in the ubiarts, more grey like in 2 and 3. usually just varying shades of blue), markings, nose length and shape. some races may be more adept at certain magic styles than others.

mr dark: i have some ideas but nothing concrete. might not even go with this story as my definitive headcanon. fairy. he was always critical of polokus, and after the first bad dream, that made him hate the god even more. he was the one who wanted to stop jano, and maybe become someone powerful enough to be seen as the glade's new "god" or whatever. betilla has proven herself to be the better magic user after the creation of rayman. polokus' main thing was that he was the creator, he was able to create life, and now betilla's able to create life. she may as well be polokus! she's a threat! when he steals the protoon/heart of the world and eventually kidnaps betilla, he uses her power to create dark rayman/raymesis. raymesis is *not* was not created by dark by himself, and he would not have been able to pull off this feat without betilla's knowledge of creating "thingamajigs". rayman and raymesis are the only two thingamajigs known in existence, both created by betilla. not saying it's impossible that others could exist, but they would have to be dreamt into existence by polokus.

dark's obsession with being the most powerful person in the world and becoming a god is why he stole the heart of the world, of course. ales mansay would take inspiration from this event. his views are similar to dark's, that's why he worships him. polokus is a terrible god, he lets people suffer. rayman is a terrible hero, all he does is sleep. ales knows he wouldn't be able to reach the heart of the world and instead tries to build his “own” using lums (maybe not exactly but something comparable... the heart of the world is made up of lums after all). i know that's like, duh, canon information, but it was never stated *WHY* he looks up to mr dark. so now you know why. its bc they both hate polokus

Hi, hello there! Sorry to bother but just wanted to say I love the way you draw the slugcats and I adore your Anthro AU. Saint's design is my fav. Scug is so pretty! Spears's design is also my fave! So fancy x3 But I'm a bit confused about one thing tho. In one of the pages, Spears mentioned not having a mouth to either or talk so...how is Spears able to talk with the group and that one Scav? Duid I miss something? =? Also since Arti's pups are alive here, why does Arti still seems to have a vendetta with them in this AU? 👀

EDIT UPDATE 17/02/23: I've now been informed that Spearmaster uses sl in the game, so I'm combining that with tail wind noises (which is now minimized).

Know that this is my au so there's a lot of personalized hcs and stuff that may or may not be canon:

Short answer: Spear talks via their tail holes ; Gourmand reunites her kids after she thought they were dead for good (but actually just underwent the cycle)

Very Long complex answer:

Spearmaster talks through their tail. Its a thing from the dating simulator in inv's campaign but its dubiously marked if canon (because you don't hear/see slugcats talk in the game itself anyway)

While most may consider this a weird thing the inv campaign just do, I personally accepted it.

They practiced manipulating the winds in the holes they bear to make it sound like someone is talking. It is so effective and mastered to the point that people forget that they don't actually have a mouth lol.

As for Artificer, its a bit intertwined with another AU explanation (thats a bit popular among fans): Gourmand finding Arti's lost kids and reuniting the family, who simply underwent the cycle and is just out there, separated from her. Of course, she had to deal with the stress and anguish of not knowing whether or not her children is still alive (hell, I don't think within the game she is aware of the cycle system but then another explanation for if she is aware and WHY they don't... appear, is because the pups were "too pure for this world"- which I may call bs, personally, but everyone thinks what they wants so...). (as a bonus, this is what lead to arti being friends with gourmand and eventually meeting survivor and monk because they share the same colony)

There are other alternatives for it- like they just didn't die but arti's got the vendetta anyway- probably because they had feuds or gang wars or a bad history (there's going to be one explanation soonish in the heist comics). (answers that don't need complex explanations lol)

Because at the same time, this AU has all the playable scugs meet each other in the same time, which doesn't happen in the game (ik jolly coop exists but thats not canon)

I see the anthro au as my personal outlet for creativity. It doesn't HAVE TO be consistent with in-game lore. Its just my personal dumb fun haha

I do understand the people finding issues with implementing things that aren't canon sometimes, but thats the fun of creating aus (i bring this up because ive seen a tumblr post about this earlier and it made me think for a bit if the anthro au is a bit "too weird" or "too fandom cliche" for rain world's context- but like i said earlier- this is my funzone. if people dont like what i got for it, then at the very least ignoring and respecting that it exists is fine. the internet will and will always have opinions, but the smartest people dont start the fire.)
