yo you should be so cool as to be ava-coded. it's the attitude it's the confidence without the arrogance it's the inhibition and the resilience. it's the yeah i'll fight you and i'm scared but i'm gonna be brave about it because i still believe there's a chance i might win, one day, eventually

oh being ava-coded is definitely a compliment & yeah i think what makes her so beautiful to me as a character is her scrappiness & the way she looks at everything and loves it so much. just those little moments like again i will never shut up about ava kissing her reflection but also the Croissant Attack, jumping in a pool and then ‘??? wait can i swim?’

the way she’s like ‘i look pretty good in this sword huh?’ to mary. the fact that she runs away and leaves a note in her scratchy uncertain handwriting that says ‘i want to live.’ the fact that she goes back for diego and gives mary & lilith the finger with blood on her knuckles as she sails away. the steeliness & tough-as-fucking-nails attitude you see in her sometimes, in episode 5 especially when she punches lilith in the face and earns that little surprised double-take.

how she goes back to splint mary’s leg and ‘i watched a lot of tv’ and praying one time with a belligerent air of ‘i’ll give you a chance to actually be there, god’. the ham fight and ‘ooops i threw a guy across the bar’ and all the times ava surprises herself with her power & is never cruel about it. how gentle she is when it counts and how enormously hard that is when you’ve come from a place that treated you poorly.

i think what puts me in awe of ava is her gentleness and how it sits in spite of everything. how she’s so generous with her love. here’s a person who grew up being told she meant nothing every day, who has had to claw her way towards loving herself & who DOES in the most genuine way.

it always strikes me, looking at how easily ava loves herself, that you can be told again and again that you’re not the kind of thing anyone loves and you can turn around and say fuck you to that, and love yourself anyway.

These two shots are ruining my life right now.

Because never has Beatrice been selfish. She gives so much of herself every day, in both seasons of this show - she represses herself entirely to be someone who is, inherently helpfully. She never let herself have. She never even let herself want.

But this moment... this moment Beatrice is selfish. Everything she's done has been to keep Ava alive, but this time - she keeps Ava alive even at the cost of Adriel breaking free again. Because she couldn't allow Ava to die; not just for Ava's sake, but also for her own. This decision is completely selfish of her, and I love it so fucking much. This is what she wants, and I don't think she'll ever regret that decision.

Ch. 5: Three Hail Marys

“Beatrice Kline. Don’t.”

Beatrice suddenly tugs the drawstrings of her hoodie across one another completely shutting Ava in. Ava playfully groans and swats as Beatrice ties the string into a bow, and grabs her by the shoulders. “You bitch!” Ava screams.

“Sorry, Darling,” Beatrice replies through a fit of laughter, as she spins Ava round, and round, and round .

Ava is trying her best to be upset at the moment, but Beatrice’s laughter is one of her favorite sounds in the world.

Not everyone gets to hear it.

Beatrice, though quite playful when you get to know her, is inhumanely guarded and quiet around most people. At most she’ll acknowledge someone’s attempt to engage with her, she may even let out a breathy chuckle in public situations. But here? Right now? Beatrice’s laughter could be heard from miles away. It resonates throughout the room, seeping through the walls into their apartment. All Ava can hear is Beatrice, and what she assumes is a rather large smile. Her friend is happy, and that makes her happy.

Pluck .

Moments like these, the two of them alone in their own little world, fill Ava with enough glee to last her a lifetime.

But Beatrice is still spinning her, and right now she wants to smack the shit out of her… lovingly of course.

“Bea!!!” Ava yells as she blindly reaches for Beatrice. Ava can’t tell if she’s dizzy, or if she’s still being spun, but whatever it is she wants it to stop. In the blink of an eye, Ava is no longer spinning and is being hoisted over Beatrice’s shoulder.

“Bea what the fuck?!?” Ava says through an annoyed chuckle. “Put me down!” Ava exclaims as she kicks her feet, and drums on Beatrice’s back while she’s carted through the house

Little does Ava know, Beatrice managed to walk all the way to the couch. “Suit yourself.”

Beatrice plops Ava down with a soft thud, their throw pillows flying as Ava’s flailing limbs hit them.

Beatrice towers over Ava with her head thrown back in a maniacal laughter, as she takes in her best friend’s current state.

“You look so silly right now. I’ve got to show the girls.” Beatrice cries, reaching into her pocket to grab her phone.

“You wouldn’t.” Ava huffs. Beatrice types a few things into her phone and aims it at Ava.

“It doesn’t seem you’re in the position to stop me, Ava.”

Ava managed to loosen the knot on her hood, but it didn’t come undone completely. The hood now sits snugly around her face, wild hairs escaping from the sides. Annoyed, she reaches up and tugs Beatrice down by her compression top, “Untie it.”

Or at least she tries to.

i see (and love) all of these ‘ava the astrophysicist’ commentaries & i agree BUT consider this:

beatrice the theoretical physicist and ava the applied physicist

because ava - raw, kinetic ava silva - is all about the laws of motion. the application of the laws of thermodynamics. she’s interested in using physics to create prosthetics, mobility aids. she’s also interested in antigravity and space exploration and how people might live in hostile spaces (she’s an expert, after all)

beatrice - contained bea, who is potentiality, who is ‘thinking-things-into-existence’ personified - is interested in causality, in the world at its most fundamental points. she’s all about the mathematics that underlines our existence. she wants to know why!!

ava falls in love with bea as she explains to her about the cosmic microwave background. “ava it’s light, but fossilised! and it sits literally as far as the telescopically-aided eye can see. the beginning frozen for us, and we can look at it, and understand how far we have left to reach.”

bea falls in love with ava when she arrives to campus looking like a wreck but holding a block of pages and she kind of half-collapses by the photocopiers and bea speed-walks over and ava just looks up like someone who is imagining themselves with a mouthful of blood and tells bea about her paper which puts forward a theory that she just knows is going to make prosthetics capable of complex neural feedback

just… yeah. they are both physicists but it means different things to them & they’re both obsessed with how the other person thinks about the universe
