People who don’t accommodate their cat’s needs confuse me so much. Yes, there are toys everywhere; it’s called “we had playtime.” Of course there are paper bags and boxes. They need enrichment. Of course I’m going to make cozy spots for my cat to feel safe and happy in when changes to my life made him upset. Yeah, I’m serious, we can’t watch TV when my cat is downstairs because it scares him, and this is his space too.

If your home isn’t fun and safe and comfortable and inviting for your cat, then what are you doing owning a cat? Their needs are important, and their toys and enrichment are not clutter.

When I was early on in my transition I got in a Lyft, and the driver was this big country guy. I was a little nervous so I just sat quietly in the back.

After a moment he changed the music on his phone to what sounded like a Hatsune Miku song. Curiosity got the better of me, so I finally spoke up and said “is this Hatsune Miku?”

And he said “Yep. You looked uncomfortable, and I know Transgender women like Hatsune Miku, so I thought it might help.”

I think about that interaction a lot.

People still tend to lump JK Rowling in with the category of ~problematic artists~ and I need everyone to understand that is not the problem with her. She is not comparable to anyone who wrote a piece of fiction you hate, or someone who made rude comments in 2015 and has since learned better.

She is far more like Elon Musk. She is a radicalized person with an extreme amount of social and financial power, and for YEARS she has been using that power to try to influence her government into hurting vulnerable people, on purpose. And she has succeeded. THAT is the problem with her, and THAT is why spending money on her books is so dangerous, not because her books aged badly.

Critiquing her work is fine, of course (I personally was never a fan so I really don’t care) but you NEED to understand that fiction is not the main issue here. And I truly think acting like she’s the same as the rest of any giant list of ~problematic creators of the week~ waters down how dangerous she is.
