I FUCKING LOVE THE SONG OF ROLLAND#song of roland#clay does art#so. okay bear with me#the song of Roland / chanson de rollanz was an epic poem written in the 11th century about the real battle of Roncevaux Pass in#the 8th century.#so 11th c ? we are smack in those middle ages#and its old copies were recorded as illuminated manuscripts#yet! it is technically an epic!! its an epic poem!!!! I don’t believe there were many written between Roland and the Aeneid (19 BCE)#in the west?#so like . WILD COMEBACK!!#this comic (?) is me playing with this idea of both muddling and clarifying the reality (8th c. real battle. he died.)#with the context of the poem (11th c. chivalric code. this was the hamilton of the time I must assume)#the translation from old french (flows better in modern English than it does in modern french apparently?)#and me. making it a scrolling comic. inspiration from real armor of the 8th century#although 11th c manuscripts armor them like they’re contemporary#I did hand lettering! as a manuscript would be!!#but my composition is wildly different than theirs#I could go on ! but I shant. ty for reading#no id#< I do not. know how . Me: I got a 25 on the ACT!
Mom: it won't get you into BYU, especially with your math grade the way it is.
Me: I have a 3.7 GPA, and I can always retake the ACT?
Mom: you're going to need a really good admissions essay if you want to get into BYU.
Me: thanks, mom.
#25 without even studying#so anyways now i don't want to tell her about my AP test score#it's a 3 which means that I passed#but at the same time#I'm always told to do better#and there's no validation there#just do better so you can get into your dream school#like mother. i'm trying!#but do you know what straight a's get me? panic attacks every time i get anything less than an A#do you want to repeat 9th grade where i was told that every second counted towards college and you'd have to hold me#as i cried at 10 pm at night because I thought I wasn't good enough#and it's taken me literal years to finally reach the conclusion that my grades aren't everything and even then i still panic#whenever i get anything less than a C#the math grade was an outlier from a set of horrible circumstances#i finished 11th with 5 A's two B's and a D and you come after me for the D#it's always 'do better; your grades suck' when I have one bad grade#i'm taking 3 AP classes next year because I want to college credit#I was on the honor roll the entirety of junior high#I'm working towards a chord at graduation#maybe one day i'll be praised for everything i've sacrificed just to be good enough#i know that I need better grades and scores for BYU#and I've literally been working my ass off to get into BYU my entire life

i keep seeing "gifted kid" dunks that remind me of "you people cant do anything" so ill just say more often than not the "gifted kid" mentioned is mostly talking about the phenomenon of neurodivergent kids who ended up relatively academically successful thanks to good teachers, comfort of planned schedules of days, testing and grading thats consistent thru elementary to highschool completely tanking in/post college and having extreme adjustment issues, long periods of "failure" its not about getting an A+ in third grade once, like all internet viral topics im sure people started applying it to everything but it was an exclusively neurodivergent thing

When French is your first language, but you barely get the passing grade 😭
#I found my 4th year of high school final grades 😬#(junior year / 11th)#(you had to have at least 60% to pass#I always have in the 60s in french and in the 90s in English 😭#except that year my teache was so bad me and my friend had to tell him he made mistakes#I even had to make him change my grade on an exam once cause he put mistake on answers that were right 😐#so I had 81% that year apparently 😭#I hated him so bad and he was so cringy every hated him actually#French is so hard and for what#I don’t even have my cegep diploma cause I couldn’t pass the writting exam 😐#someone help me#alex.txt
