Could you explain the (Royal) I? I haven’t really learned/encountered a language yet with different forms of the same pronoun. I heard a little of it with the Sans is a bumpkin scandal(?) when undertale was translated for the switch but I was curious if you could explain at least for the Chinese side of the pronoun stuff.
If you don’t have the energy or my ask was unclear, then have a great day anyway and feel free to delete this ask.
Idk about the Undertale thing, but I can talk briefly about a few royal "I"s (there are much more royal/noble honorfics from olden times but I'm not gonna go that deep).
I'm kind of inconsistent about pointing out when there are other pronouns being used as I/you/he/she/they/etc in my translations, but I know I definitely will just sub in pronouns based on context either if there's not one there (you can usually exclude relative pronouns in Chinese so sometimes there's a bit of ambiguity and translators just have to make a decision based on context) or if there's a noun being used as a pronoun type situation (which would be clunky to translate and would generally put the sentence into third person if translated directly).
People now don't use the royal pronouns except as a joke obviously. Wang Qiye, who I've translated a lot, often uses 本王 for "I", for example.
ANYWAY, the "(Royal) I" that probably showed up in one of my translations may have been:
朕; zhèn — imperial/royal "I"; quite literally the royal "we". Historically, this was for the emperor's use only, and began being used in this way with Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of the Qin State (i.e, unified/imperial China). The empress dowager (the emperor's mother or widow) could also use this (I think). Before that, it was one of the several ways to say "I" (in modern day, it's mostly just 我/wǒ).
本王; běn wáng — royal "I" typically used by princes and dukes, etc. Princesses would also use this historically. A king or queen pre-imperial times would have used this too, as 王 means "monarch". When Wang Qiye uses it, she's basically saying "I, the queen".
Side note: "本" means "inherent" so it's basically like "___ themself" or "I, ____". I add this because you might hear people say "本 [noun/identity]" as a joke, sort of to the effect of putting on airs.
寡人; guǎ rén — royal "I" that was used basically from the very beginning, since before imperial times. This would be used by princes and nobility, too. I don't remember this one ever being used in a douyin I've translated but maybe it has idk. The more you know.

So does Beatlejuice keep Shabbat? Did he get bar mitzvahed? Sorry just curious. You can ignore this.
i dont think he’s religiously Jewish so he wouldn’t exactly keep Shabbat (although if you asked him to do something tedious on a Saturday he’d tell you ‘no’ with Shabbat as his excuse),
Also no he’s definitely not Bar Mitzvah’d
as a bonus i think he’d love to celebrate Hanukkah solely for the fact that he gets to handle fire, eat latkes and gamble chocolate- he’s what my family calls a ‘food Jew’, where you’re keeping tradition for the food perks, but not practicing religiously

What would you do if Dan and swampy saw this blog?
I'd be a bit starstruck knowing that they're aware of my work, but there's not really anything I would do! If they commented directly on a post or sent me a message (I believe Swampy used to have a tumblr account) i'd probably engage with them, but that's not likely to happen.

Midnight please?
I got you @123abse! I love Nemuri so much!
It comes as no surprise to find that she is into the BDSM scene. And Midnight is 100% a domme. You cannot change my mind. Definitely has a sadistic streak and loves to get into impact play. She may be a tough domme but she’s really good at reading her partner to know when she needs to dial it down or when she can turn up the intensity.
This woman has a ton of kinks so it would be impossible to keep this brief and dive into them all sooo to name a few others I think she would be into: Bondage, sensory deprivation, food play, wax play, gagging and temperature play. Also expect for her to spoil the crap out of you in the aftercare. ;)

Mary shelley????? I have way too many fandoms currently so I'm having a hard time getting deeper into BSD but it's great just reading your fics.
Is she cool? I love the real life author’s story. I suppose it would be impolite to ask about things that could be spoilers.

Would you explain the health check sock, please? I’m confused.
Tumblr media
referring to this post
They are acupressure/pressure point socks for 足反射疗法/ foot reflexology, I believe. It is a type of massage based on ideas that these areas in the foot are connected to internal organs.
This English article sums it up pretty well. The empirical health benefits are mostly stress relief and whatnot, like most massages. The boys are leaning into it for the bit. If you have real issues with your internal organs, you should see a doctor for actual treatment.

Do people date Pokemon in your au?
I mean, in the real world, there are people that want to marry trees and have intimate "relationships" with their cars...So interspecies relationships, to me, isn't as messed up as that is so sure, people can date certain pokemon but it would likey be a rare occurrence. So if Amber develops a crush on a human instead of a pokemon then so be it. I figure the mewtwos would be an exception since Mewtwo is actually part human anyway in my au.

Idk if she has any scandals but imagine Mary Pope Osborne with “Magic tree house” as an ability? I can’t think of anything that I want to request like as fics. I’m sorry
Please don’t apologize, it makes me feel terrible. As for Magic Tree House, I’m afraid I’ve never read it?? this is the first time I’m even hearing of Mary Pope Osborne tbh 😅

I hope I phrase this question correctly but I was watching the cool video of the ladies standing on parallel bars in heels and noticed the “No pain no gain.” Versus what was actually likely said.
So if you directly translated “no pain, no gain.” Into Chinese, And said it to someone’s who’s only language was Chinese, would the saying come through or is it an idiom that might need more translating?
Also bonus question, what’s the difference between mandarin and Cantonese?
Sorry if these are irritating questions. You can delete this ask if any of it comes across as rude. I’m not the best with text tone
If you directly translated "no pain, no gain" without frills (没有痛苦,没有收获) it would still be understood because it's a logical cause and effect saying. It just so happens there are also more colorful ways to say the same thing in Chinese;
From the video: 吃得苦中苦,方为人上人 (one cannot achieve glory and wealth without having been through trials and tribulations)
Another popular way to say it is a 一份耕耘,一份收获 (with a round of farm work, comes a round of harvest).
The difference between Mandarin and Cantonese is not a question I'm qualified to answer since I don't know Cantonese. But it would not be a simple question to answer even if I did. The main differences are pronunciation of the same writing system and where (geographically) it is commonly spoken, but you should really just do some googling if you want to know anything beyond that.
