■ Palmera, pelo largo y tupé Raza exclusiva de la isla de La Palma, está en peligro de extinción. El censo actual es de unos 7.950 ejemplares. Adaptada a moverse en territorios abruptos y montañosos, es de pelo largo, en la cabeza suelen tener tupé y la capa predominante es la roja en diferentes tonalidades, también negras. Ésta es graja joriscana (negra con las orejas manchadas de blanco) ●

■ Tinerfeñas, de norte y sur La raza tinerfeña, en peligro de extinción, presenta dos variedades, adaptadas a los distintos paisajes y climas de Tenerife, norte más húmedo y frío y sur árido y más cálido. Por eso, la norte (en la foto), con un censo de 4.150 cabezas es de pelo largo y predominan las capas de color negro y castaño; la sur, con un censo 3.700 cabezas, es de pelo corto y capas polícromas ●

■ Majorera, la más extendida Aunque la más abundante en el archipiélago, reconocidas como tales e inscritas en la Federación Nacional de Criadores de la Raza Caprina Majorera hay 14.000 repartidas entre Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria y Tenerife. De pelo corto y cuernos en forma de arco, presenta una treintena de capas y está entre las más productoras de leche del mundo ●

La cabra es el animal predominante, en número, en la cabaña ganadera de Canarias desde que el archipiélago está habitado por el ser humano. Llegaron con los primeros pobladores, cuya economía se basaba en gran medida en el aprovechamiento de su leche y su carne, también su piel y hasta huesos. En la actualidad, con más de un cuarto de millón de cabezas repartidas entre todas las islas, sigue aportando la mayor parte de la leche que se emplea para la elaboración de sus muy apreciados quesos, tanto artesanos como industriales. De aquellas primeras cabras, cuyas descendientes más directas se extinguieron a mediados de los años 60 del siglo XX, sólo quedan dos ejemplares disecados en 1935 y expuestos en El Museo Canario.El pastor Javier Ramos se mueve con el garrote y el perro, para reunir a los animales y llevarlos al corral a ordeñar en El Toscón de Tejeda (Gran Canaria). | FOTO TATO GONÇALVES

Las que hoy forman la cabaña ganadera de estas islas proceden de aquellas, aunque con una evolución y cruces que han terminado por confluir en tres grandes razas: la palmera, la tinerfeña con sus variedades norte y sur; y la majorera, especialmente adaptada a paisajes áridos, la más extendida y de mayor producción lechera.

‘Stepping stone’ (saltando) Al preguntarle al veterinario e investigador Juan Capote, explica que la numerosa población caprina que hay en Canarias se conformó con lo que se llama stepping stone, “como el charco de agua con piedras que cruzas saltando de una piedra a otra, la población va pasando de isla a isla, por lo que el poblamiento simultáneo en todas las islas es imposible”. Así lo confirma el análisis de ADN antiguo realizado a muestras procedentes de yacimientos arqueológicos.

Estima Capote que “el acervo histórico de las cabras canarias podría considerarse un endemismo producto de un fuerte efecto fundador combinado con un prolongado aislamiento geográfico, siendo muy distinto del caracterizado en otras poblaciones ibéricas y africanas” (1).

That meant I was stuck making due with what I had. I tried an old one, but it's meant for a different shaped mask and didn't fit right, so I taped together the broken one and used that. Unfortunately, I tied it back on slightly crooked, which annoyed me all night.

And I'm going to say that was why I kicked the first shot I faced right out to an opposing player who quickly shot it again. I managed to get in the way some but not enough and we were down 0-1 despite actually playing well.

We had a couple subs who are more offensive than the guys they were filling in for and a better fit for the team's needs I think and that made a big difference but after the first we hadn't scored and were losing.

I played better in the second period, but thankfully, I didn't have a huge amount to do. Our offensive got going better, too, with a couple of different plays that were a combination of good passing, speed, and honestly luck to score two in the period for a 2-1 lead.

We were the better side for most of the third too, though by not as much and I had to make more saves, including a couple really good ones. We almost got a third goal when they pulled their goalie but weren't able to get the shot off. Thankfully, they weren't able to score with the extra man either, and in the end, we got a 2-1 victory, which was probably even a bit closer than the quality of play throughout the game.

It was a great way to finish off the regular season, and I believe it'll be close if we manage to pass this team we were playing tonight for not last place. Thankfully, we make the playoffs and get to keep playing either way.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
