2023 Year in Review

In celebration of the coming New Year, I decided to do a re-watch of every drama I gave 3 or more stars in 2023. Only 15 made the cut, which given the number of dramas I watched (I started well over 200, although I dropped at least a third of those) is not that many.

(My rating system is pretty simple: 1 ⭐ = terrible/don't recommend/waste of time, 2 ⭐⭐ = pretty good/enjoyable/would recommend to others but probably never re-watch, 3 ⭐⭐⭐ = good/likely to re-watch, 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ = practically perfect/would re-watch frequently. As you can see, it's more about what I personally enjoy than what's objectively great. So some objectively good shows aren't on this list, like La Pluie or Wedding Plan or Our Dating Sim or Doctor Cha or King the Land or Call it Love, because they got a lower score from me because I'm not that likely to ever re-watch them even though I'm glad I watched them and I'll happily recommend them to others. Of course, my ratings are subject to change over time too because I often surprise myself with what I re-watch. Some shows that I originally gave 2.5 stars have eeked out 3.5 stars over the following year or two just because they grew on me and I kept re-watching them.)

As such, my plan to ring in the New Year is to re-watch:

Lost/Human Disqualification - ⭐⭐⭐/⭐ - (IQIYI/Amazon Prime, kdrama, slice of life, healing journey, slight romance, a 42yo woman pushed to the breaking point by life crosses paths with a 27yo man who is mourning the loss of his friend, outstanding dialog, killer A+ acting, tw: infidelity, miscarriage, and suicide BUT DON'T LET THAT SCARE YOU AWAY)

Hit The Spot ⭐⭐⭐ (Viki, kdrama, romcom, 2 women begin hosting a sex advice podcast, funny, sex positive education, extraordinarily relatable, high heat, 8 30min eps)

The Glory ⭐⭐⭐/⭐ (Netflix, kdrama, 36yo woman patiently takes revenge on her childhood bullies, slight romance, incredible dialog, A+ acting, excellent pacing and powerful reveals, tw: the highschool bullies are evil little sociopaths who do some extremely horrific shit)

The Eighth Sense ⭐⭐⭐/⭐ (Viki, gay romance, kdrama, incoming freshman who is a rural-transplant to Seoul meets exiting senior and joins his surf club, gorgeous production, healing past trauma, A+ acting and insanely believable physical chemistry, good OST)

Love Tractor ⭐⭐⭐ (IQIYI, gay, short kbl, big city law student with musical ambitions hides from his responsibilities in the countryside and meets a younger himbo farmer with a heart of gold)

Sing My Crush ⭐⭐⭐/⭐ (IQIYI, kBL, a talented but heartbroken young man is about to give up on his musical dreams when he is adopted by an eager wannabe manager, best friends to lovers, cohabitation, pining, good plot and chemistry)

Moonlight Chicken ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (YouTube, Thai, gay romance + BL, one night stand between a struggling chicken diner owner and a recently promoted office worker turns into more, HS student and lonely deaf boy become the cutest couple to ever cute, A+ writing and acting, themes of: found family, making a home, love matters even when it doesn't end well, class inequality, queer generational divides, letting go of the past, a radically compassionate look at first love, last love, lost love, and unrequited love)

Bed Friend ⭐⭐⭐ (IQIYI, Thai, gay office romance, enemies to FWB to lovers, healing past trauma done right, ridiculously pretty leads, consent kings, high heat, A+ lead chemistry and acting, soft landing in the final 2 eps, tw: sexual assault)

Laws of Attraction ⭐⭐⭐ (IQIYI, Thai, gay, mystery/romance lakorn, evil unhinged babygirl lawyer and the heroic idealistic taekwondo instructor who falls for him work together to solve the mystery of his niece's death, loveable granny, A+ lesbians, happy endings all around, great acting and lead chemistry)

Jack O'Frost ⭐⭐⭐ (Viki, Japan, gay, amnesiac young man and his co-habitating ex begin their relationship again, short 6 ep, A+ acting, excellent production values)

Hold my Hand at Twilight ⭐⭐⭐ (Viki, jdrama, twenty-something city mouse meets country mouse and they begin the journey towards making their dreams come true, cohabitation, warm-hearted, angsty 3rd act, A+ acting, excellent banter, post-credit epilogue)

Kiseki: Dear to Me ⭐⭐⭐ (Viki, Taiwan, gay, hardworking med student falls for the gang member he secretly treats, insane plot includes time skip and amnesia [2 tropes I usually hate, but actually done well in this case and not annoying], domesticity, cohabitation, hurt/comfort, friends to lovers, short total runtime)

Fake It Till You Make It ⭐⭐⭐/⭐ (Viki, China, romance, 🔥 lead chemistry, snappy banter, disarmingly honest and vulnerable leads, this couple wants to eat each other for dinner AND dessert but constantly chooses not to because of other life priorities and fears, friends with killer UST to lovers who communicate shockingly well, all the characters feel like real people instead of caricatures)

hey so for some context for anyone who isn't Joey: we made a character based on the Slab species from Doctor Who and we paired him off with the Stig.

The entire crew was running around like a bunch of headless chickens, scouring high and low in search of the Stig and Stickers. Stickers, who was going to be billed as Stig's cyclist cousin, was somehow just mildly weirder than Stig. Mildly. At least Stickers showed emotions. Stig normally just stood there, and if he wasn't just standing there, he was attacking things. Stickers, on the other hand, was a little ball of energy. And stickers. Somehow, he could make that motorcycle helmet of his seemingly emote just by looking at you in a certain way. At first it freaked some of the crew out, but they got used to it after a while. They were both supposed to be on in half an hour, but they were nowhere to be found. Great. Dandy. Wonderful.

     If the crew had looked about a mile into the woods thay surrounded the test track, they would have found Stig and Stickers with several sheets of star-shaped stickers and a pair of tweezers. But they didn't! The pair were blissfully undisturbed, surrounded by trees. An odd sight to find the Stig in, honestly. This wasn't Stiggy's idea anyway. Stickers had stumbled into a stationary store and made out with about 200 sheets of random stickers and he instisted on decorating Stig's helmet. Had it been anyone other than Stickers, he would have said no (and probably punched the fool brave enough to suggest it). But, it was Stickers.

They aren't really cousins. The fact that Stickers was always introduced as such made them both cringe. What they are is in love. They're also absolute dumbasses. The first time they bumped their helmets together (their version of a kiss), Stig nearly vomited in his helmet out of nerves while Stickers blasted "We Are The Champions" on repeat in his dressing room for the next three hours. Stickers's entire existance was a mystery to everyone including himself, but Stig didn't really care. He just loved Stickers from day one. Now, on day fourty-six, the two of them were sitting across from each other up on a low hanging branch, Stig leaning forward so the shorter racer could carefully apply a black star sticker just under his visor.

    The placement was much more purposeful than it would be if Stickers was decorating one of his own helmets. He just stuck a hodgepodge of things onto it until he ran out of room most of the time. There was still a slight theme to them, but nowhere near as neat as the way he affixed the simple black stickers to Stig's helmet. It was a miracle his hands weren't shaking given how thrilled he was when his boyfriend (his boyfriend!!!!) had agreed to it. Actually, it wasn't Stickers who was shaking at all. It was Stig.

He was wobbling back and forth like crazy, teetering on the branch before letting out a little surprised "eek!" and falling to the ground like a rock. Stickers sat there stunned, just staring at the other driver for a few moments before scrambling down the tree to kneel at his side.

Natutally, Stickers wad in a panic. He hadn't fallen from a particularly low branch; it was certainly high enough to break bones. "Oh," He thought to himself, "OH." It was from high enough to break bones?! This was not good. This was very much not good. It's not like he could just take Stig to a hospital! Who knows what they would do once they got their hands on him?! And first aid? There was no first aid guide for a genetically modified Sla-

Oh.

Stig chose that time to sit up in a flash and put his hands on the sides of his panicked boyfriend's helmet. Like asking him to take a deep breath. Right. He was being entirely unreasonable. They were both indestructable. A little fall wasn't going to hurt.

Stickers chuckled and slinged his arms around Stig's neck, sighing as he calmed down. Stig pulled him in closer and hugged him tight, shoulders drooping and relaxed. Stickers finally got a good look at his handiwork on Stig's helmet. Not too shabby, if he could say so himself.

He gently bumped his helmet into Stig's. "You look good."

Stig bumped back. "So do you."

Drabble Event Day 9

The room fell silent. Akutagawa glared at his frenemy with a murderous look, that made the latter shake like a kitten. Atsushi didn't even dare to move, worried that even his breathing could anger the Port Mafia executive even more. He found his reaction quite overly dramatic, was being called 'Dazai-san's biggest simp' really that big of a deal?

Apparently it was to the dark-haired guy, who had already summoned Rashoumon and was already charging towards him. The weretiger squawked and tried to dodge him, but he failed to notice the shadow monster sneaking up behind him and he found himself pinned to the wall in no time.

That's it, he thought, but then Akutagawa did something he'd never expected. He dug his fingers in his ribcage and vibrated them. Atsushi's eyes widened, was he really going to use tickling? "You little brat! How do you like this?" The dark-haired guy asked teasingly.

"Mehehe aha brahahahahat? Sahays thehehe ohohone whoho's gehettihihihing sohoho wohorked uhuhup fohohor mehehe stahahahahating fahahahacts!" He knew he should've kept that comment to himself, but seeing Akutagawa's furious and embarrassed expression was totally worth it.

"Let's see if you'll be still sassy after a minute of this!" The taller guy yelled while moving to his ears, massaging both earlobes and quickly blowing on both of them every once in a while, knowing that it was a squeak-spot for the weretiger... thanks to Dazai.

"Nahaha EEK! Whohohoho tohoho- EEK! Whohoho tohohold yohou EEK! Ahahahabohout thihihis?! EEHEHEHEK!" The white-haired guy made a longer and more high-pitched squeal when his frenemy blew on his ear just a bit longer. "That wouldn't be the thing I'd be worried about, if I were you, Jinko." Akutagawa's evil smirk made the poor boy gulp.

The Port Mafia executive moved to his underarms, scribbling on the left one and poking the right one, making the feeling even more maddening for the detective. "Aaaaaahhhahahaha cohohohome ohohohon stohohohop ihihihit!!" The shorter boy whined while laughing his head off. "I'll consider it after you apologize calling me a simp." The Rashoumon holder set his conditions.

Atsushi knew it was his chance to break free from that embarrassing-yet-merciless assault, but maybe because of his pride or maybe because of his playfulness he decided to say the worst thing in that situation. "Neheheheveheheher!!"

"Fine, you asked for it!" The taller guy growled, probably a bit irritated by his opponent's stubbornness, and opened the lower buttons of the weretiger's button down shirt, exposing his stomach. "Huh? What are yAAAAAHAHHAHA WAHAHAHAHAIT PLEHEHEAHAHAHAHASEHEEE" The detective scream-laughed when Akutagawa wiggled a finger into his navel.

"Oh? Why are you screaming so much? It's only a finger." The Port Mafia executive grinned in content, knowing that he had hit the jackpot "If such a childish tactic can reduce you like that, imagine what will happen when I actually try to kill you." In another moment, Atsushi would've probably talked back, but he was already running out of stamina.

He didn't even last a minute, he was just too ticklish for his own good. And thanks to Dazai, his nemesis was aware of his big little weakness. "IHIHIHI'M SOHOHORRYEHEHE PLEHEHEAHASE STAHAHAHAHAHAP" He yielded, finally putting an end to the assault.

Akutagawa withdrew Rashoumon, watching the shorter guy sink to the floor, then he crouched down and asked "So, who's a simp for Dazai-san?"

"Nohohot you..." His frenemy replied, still giggling a bit. "Hmph!" The executive scoffed "And you better keep that in mind." He stated ominously before turning on his heels and leaving.

If only he had noticed Atsushi shifting into his tiger form and getting ready to pounce...

The weather outside is frightful. You look out the window and see the snow piling up all around the castle grounds. However, inside the castle walls, it is warm and cozy. It is just you, Shin-Ah, and the fire crackling away. You walk back towards the fireplace, where he is sitting on the floor, grab the blanket from the couch, and swing it over both of you as you sit down next to him. You let out a sweet sigh and ask, “Is that better?” To which he responds by leaning his head on your shoulder and closing his eyes.

Ahhhhh! This one made me all warm and fuzzy to write 🥰 Less dialogue and more description. I think I nailed this one 😊 I really hope you like it 😘

1 Are you self diagnosed, medically recognized, or professionally diagnosed?

medically recognized. i don’t think we can get an actual medical diagnosis until we’re older(?), but we’ve been medically recognized by multiple psychiatrists/therapists/etc. and we’ve only been in stable therapy for ..er idk but it hasn’t been that long, so we’ve only been able to talk about diagnoses and such freely somewhat recent (past few years). also uhh as much as i hyperfixate on certain disorders i try not to think a ton about getting tons of recognition/diagnoses because, for the most part, i try to just take whatever comes with having DID in stride (and my brains crashing i’ve been talking too long eek)

10 How many fully formed alters do you have? How many fragments?

um 200+ at least? and fragments…jeez there’s a lot i’m not sure i could give an accurate number..ksjd

17 Do different alters have different allergies?

uh not that i know of! some definitely have very different food tastes and preferences and some alters like other food and some just absolutely can’t eat it but i don’t think any of us have different allergies (ofc there’s kinda allergies we all have, ig just out of those some of us experience it worse)

Tilerassic 80-82 million years

A map on Sar in the early Tilerassic, the ice has been pushed all the way back to the coldest regions of Manda.

In Spriterra the most mildly temperature continent on Sar, on it the first Sapient of Sar lies. The Hell-Breakers a species of sapient red rippers who gained Sapience 2 million years ago are now starting to spread across their continent and developing new technology. 

Central Colonies: In the center of Spriterra lies the biggest grouping of Colonies with the biggest colony has 2,000 individuals in it which are able to grow so large due to the large herds of Rison and Suffalo they hunt.

1. The Uio-Loe are the largest colony of Hell-Breakers and the most advanced in the center, they are relatively peaceful only attacking if another colony goes into their territory and steals prey. They are also the most spiritual of the Hell-Breakers with their god a formless being called Oui(with a pop at the end) being their single deity. They believe that the world is endless sea and their continent the only land this has made them stay away from the ocean due to their fear that if they were to insult Oui it would drown them. Due to limitations like only having two fingers Hell-Breakers often have to work together to build something, this includes snares, spears, a dagger like weapon made from bone or stone.

2.In the north of Spriterra where the snow stays until the summer resides the most divergent of Hell-Breakers, the Eol-Loe are a ethnic group that migrated to the icy lands of North Spriterra 10,000 years ago and eek a life on the ice caps and tundra found there. They live in smaller groups due to the less available resources and due to the scarcity this has made them more aggressive and territorial instead of living in large groups of unrelated individuals families stick together and are highly suspicious of other families. Though families will often trade daughters with each other for resources and in turn keep inbreeding from occurring in most tribes. Always on the move these nomads use rison tusks as speak tips which they use to scoop fish out of the water, they also use clubs makeshift from wood or bone which they use to bludgeon pinniped like rats. They also have started a mutual relationship with a species of seagoing bouse. They are darker in color to absorb more sunlight and use the hides of Raolfs to keep themselves warm, they are also slightly larger while most Hell-Breakers stand around five feet and typically weigh 140 pounds the Eol stand around six to seven feet tall and weigh 200 pounds due to the cold favoring bigger and fatter bodies. 

3. near the right tip of Spriterra there exists a clan of Hell-Breakers that have forgone the land for the most part. The Ool-Loe are a clan of fishers spending most of their time out on sea on their boats fishing for fish, small lurkers, and Krakenshoe crabs. They have shorter tales that are more wide that aids in swimming and they have larger lungs allowing them to hold their breath for two minutes at a time. They are the most divided people with vast numbers separated on different parts of Spriterra. They are also the only Hell-Breakers who are actively attacked by the Uio-Loe due to them believing that the Ool-Loe are demons sent from the sea to bring the wrath of Qui. They use nets made from fibers and animal hide which they use to bring up bigger animals and they use spears which are serrated to spear prey or enemies. Some clans of Ool-loe will send young warriors out to bring down an abyss leviathan which is no easy task due to the size and aggressive nature of Abyss Leviathans. 

4. The most malicious of the Hell-Breakers the Vul-Loe are a loosely organized colony that rely on raiding the Uio-Loe so to their proximity as well as Ool-loe boats. They are the second most religious Hell-breaker group like the Uio-Loe believe in a singular deity but theres is far more malicious known as Vul he is a twisted form of Qui a completely bone covered Hell-Breaker with flaming eyes though his symbol is a red circle with blades running from two sides of it, which most of the time is painted on with blood. Death and raiding has been so  engraved in their culture that wearing  the skulls of their ancestors or slain victims. They unlike most of their species prefer to use daggers and wrist blades or even attach blades to their tails which are still flexible from their semi-arboreal past.
