Go on, grab your hat and fetch a camera
Go on, film the world before it happens
I listened to pretty odd on repeat the other day while studying, woke up this morning to see panic had replaced LANA DEL REY as my second most streamed artist.
Pretty Odd and A fever are two of the most amazingly crafted pieces of art on this earth.

I just keep coming back to the way some supposed fans are upset that it seems like TTPD is going to be a return to more realtime diaristic writing. Acting like the songwriting she has done her entire career is cheap because she’s talking about her own real life and the songs exist within that framework and don’t just exist in a void.
Onstage, before Betty, she talks about how even folklore, the ‘fictional’ album is really about her, her emotions, her experiences, just a step removed. Before Champagne Problems she talks about how hearing us sing her songs back to her makes her feel understood. She sent notes to reactors who delve into the stories behind the songs thanking them for understanding her. Every time she talks about TTPD, she talks about how writing helps her to get through her life, how she HAD to write it.
I don’t think any of the missiles fired on TTPD will be so direct as to be cheap. I think it’s a situation where we will have to infer the targets based on where the explosions are. And I think that’s what she wants us to do. She wants us to know the whole story. And if that story paints someone else as the villain, maybe they shouldn’t have done what they did. She’s more than willing to accept that mantle for herself, even when it later seems she shouldn’t have. So I refuse to accept the idea that she can’t speak her truth just because it shows off an ugly side of someone else, or that we should pretend there aren’t real experiences behind the stories she’s telling us.
