First Look: The Ford Mustang GT California Special
Standing out on the road has been a hallmark of the Mustang for 59 years. And now, as Mustang prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Ford is putting a modernspin on the California Special.
The California Special package features Rave Blue details. The signature color appears on the nostril intakes, which flank a new horizontal-slat grille complete with low gloss black strakes. The headlights are surrounded by black bezels while Mustang GT California Special-specific graphics in Medium Light Rave Blue and High- and Low-Gloss Black appear on the lower body sides.
The California Special package is available with two 19.0-inch wheel options. The standard Carbonized Gray wheels have a GT/CS pad-printed logo in Rave Blue, while the optional Performance Pack wheel combines a machined face with Rave Blue pockets. The 5.0-liter engine badge on the front fenders and the GT badge at the back add Rave Blue outlines to black centers – like the GT Performance Package, there is a Performance Pack-specific badge. The GT/CS badge in the grille is also finished in Rave Blue.
Blue accents are prominent throughout the California Special package’s interior, where perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covers the seats. Further elevating its style is dual-color contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Gray threads that extend to the dash and doors. The same stitching is also available for the steering wheel and center console. A California Special IP badge and GT/CS floor mats round out the interior changes.
The California Special package adds $1,995 to the price of a Mustang GT Premium and is available in Coupe and Convertible body styles with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Mustang GT California Special makes its public debut on November 16 at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show.

AGENDABYMOONER'S DIRECTORY: CHARACTERS
Tumblr media
NOTE: THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE 400 FOLLOWERS! Oh my god. As I said, this was just some sort of self-indulgent blog but I am so glad to share my work with you. Thank you all so much for being there and to everyone who likes them so much they were more than willing to engage in my fangirl phase/behaviour/whatever. I am so glad I've entered the F1 realm all those months ago lol!
To remove all of the confusion to my work, here's a character directory 😭 I'm really sorry for that.
Letting you guys know that some of them may be in the same universe but they are not as heavily connected to each other (the only ones who are connected to each other more are The Alessandros and The Hearth Sisters - Trish is only connected in one thing and that's the Rush Wedding Special)
CHARACTER DIRECTORY
THE ALESSANDROS (rushverse)
LORELEI HESTER ALESSANDRO-RICCIARDO: Måneskin bassist. Also known as Lester Allie. Has her own set of fans in F1 as she’s an ambassador for Scuderia Ferrari. Is the middle child of the five kids. Daniel Ricciardo’s other half.
MC from Rush Series and its other extras (9 To 5, Wedding Special, Mrs. Ricciardo Special)
KARA ELEANORA ALESSANDRO: Second oldest sister of Lester. Also known as Nora. A businesswoman. She has a fashion brand. Has two children: Gabriele, 4 and Maris, 2 as of 2024. Divorced before Maris is born. Has been dating George Russell since February.
MC from His Family and Her Lover
JACQUELINA ALESSANDRO: Also divorced and has two sons: Franco, 8 and Andreas, 6. Also known as Lina. Is a model in Italy. She’s quite content being a mother.
NICOLA GRAZIA ALESSANDRO: born in 2000. Known as Cola or Grazie Nichols. An author who works for Tilly’s publishing company as an editor. Recently moved to London and is currently dating Lando Norris.
MC from London Boy and its other parts.
MATEO ALESSANDRO: The only boy and second to the youngest before Cola. He lives and breathes with his equally unhinged in-law, Daniel Ricciardo.
THE HEARTHS (rushverse)
TILLY MARIE FORD WOLFF: 39 Y/O as of 2024. The eldest Hearth sister. CEO of the Hearth Automotive Groups and the founder of The Wolff Publishing. She was previously a journalist and communications liaison but had abruptly made a change in her career path after purchasing half of the Red Bull Racing. She owns 20% of both Scuderia Ferrari and McLaren Racing, as well. She’s married to the owner and general manager of Mercedes team, Toto Wolff, and has three kids with him: Soren (age 8 as of 2024), Tia (age 5), and Adelmo (age 2). Her company does not fully associate with the FiA as to avoid rumours of bias and corruption within the Formula Racing community. Her net worth increased to 5.5 billion after her company sales skyrocketed.
Main character from Colour Me Your Colour series and its extra features.
STEVIE MARLENE FORD HAMILTON: 31 Y/O as of 2024. The second to the oldest Hearth sister. Head of Communications in Scuderia Ferrari and a supermodel with little to no time. Owns 10% of the said team with shares purchased under her investment company, The SMF Association. Married to Mercedes Driver Lewis Hamilton and has a daughter named Lottie. Has a net worth of $164.1 million as of 2024.
MC from Thick and Thin fic
SYLVIE EDSON FORD-VERSTAPPEN/HEARTH: 27 as of 2024. Executive Director of Red Bull Racing’s non-profitable kids/charity programs. Also known as the Wild Mustang or simply Blue for doing a donut in her mother's 1985 blue mustang convertible at the age of 10. Could have been F1’s first female driver since Maria Teresa de Filippis had it been for her expulsion in the academy. Known for her slight dislike for Christian Horner. Max Verstappen’s demise. Net worth is currently at $196.1 million.
MC from To Loathe and to Love series and its extra features.
AIMEE YAEL EDMUNSON: 25 as of 2024. Media Communications Officer of McLaren Racing. The half-sister of Tilly, Stevie and Sylvie. The only Hearth sister who doesn’t enjoy being in front of a camera. Works hard alongside Charlotte to keep Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris in line instead of wandering off. Had to leave from the 2024 season early due to her pregnancy. She’s currently dating Charles Leclerc and has two kids with him: a set of twins named Hervé and Jules Leclerc. Net worth is currently sitting at $91.2 million.
MC from Of Long Lines and Names
AMARA LOUISE EDMUNSON: Aimee’s mother. Businesswoman and owner of several businesses all across the globe - including luxury stores such as Harrods and Selfridges. She raised Aimee alongside Blanche and Aimee’s half-sisters. Much like a family, Amara would take the four as a whole when it comes to trips and thinks that Julius Hearth is a sad excuse of a father. Amara is Tilly, Stevie and Sylvie’s second mother.
BLANCHE CHRISTIE FORD (formerly Hearth): the youngest daughter of William Clay Ford Sr. and the mother of the first three sisters. Owns 30% of Ford Motor Company but doesn’t act as an executive chairman. She, much like Amara, is a grandmother to Soren, Tia, Adelmo, Lottie and the Leclerc twins and would rather be a stay at home Nan to them. Amara and Blanche co-parented for the four and spent nights drinking wine whenever the girls were out. Some had assumed that the two were “very good friends” but who were they to judge or assume?
TRISH ALONSO: Is a professional wrestler who was caught up in the F1 and WWE drama back in 2000s because of a certain Fernando Alonso. Now has kids with the said man.

MC from Jollibee, Madrid and all the Romance Fiasco
NOTE: These lots are in the same universe as The Hearths and The Alessandros but they are NOT heavily connected to them.
VERA COPPOLA RAIKKONEN: Is married to the Iceman, Kimi Raikkonen, all while she had given birth to the loudest versions of him (and not drunk loud)
MC from Stop the World I Wanna Get Off With You
NOT heavily connected to the Hearths and Alessandros despite being in the same universe.
THE VETTEL SPECIAL

She is considered a “Crazy Rich Asian” for growing up with money and her endless collection of Hermes bags that she seemed to treat as a fragile canvas. After years of trying and failing, she and Sebastian adopted a son named Kimuel, who was immediately addressed in the grid as Kimi Vettel. Some say that Kimi is a quieter version of Sebastian for his meekness and the sudden switch to cheekiness.
MC from Crazy Rich Wife and its other parts.
BARBARA ELISANDRA BLANCO: 25 as of 2024. Also known as Barbie. She happened to be 15 when Bel and Seb took her in as their foster child and continued to raise her as their own even after she turned 18. She moved to Switzerland with the Vettels after she was guaranteed a better life and opportunity to become a chef. She’s currently enrolled to study in Cesar Ritz College in Le Bouveret - which is a short drive every day so that she’ll have more chances to babysit Kimi, her two year old toddler adoptive sibling. ★Meet the Artist 2024★
Tumblr media
I might have forgotten to post this </3
Hello there!!
I'm Starrzies, but I also go by Rodimus!! Of these two names I prefer my nicknames (Starrz/Roddy) more than the formality of my full username/chosen name!! I'm 19 and a full time college student! (I want to become a Forensic Pathologist!) My pronouns are He/They ONLY and my chosen gender identity is Demiboy! I'm also Aroace, my specific labels being Cupioromantic/sexual!
I'm just a silly little guy trying to do his best. I am a hobbyist artist and writer and I love to share what I come with in the hopes that other people will enjoy it as much as I do! I tend to post art related to my own characters, art I've done for other people and - more rarely - fandom related art! I also stream on Twitch!!! Usually it's art streams (especially for Art Fight!) or me playing my games - either solo or with other people! I do have a Discord server full of my friends, mutuals and people interested in my stuff and community! Feel free to come join :) I'm on basically on every platform (maybe not active, but I'm there!)
My special interest (been into it for as long as I can remember) is Transformers!! It will almost always show up at some point! I'm also super into Lego Monkie Kid, Overwatch and Genshin Impact!! (The last of the 2 I on and off play!) I tend to reblog content form these 4 fandoms! (They're the main 4 but I may branch out!)
I try and be super friendly! Really, I don't bite, but I do have a very limited social battery! So conversations may not last very long when it comes to talking! I also sometimes just don't have the energy to reply. If I don't reply then it's nothing against you, I promise!! That being said I AM TOTALLY OPEN TO BEING FRIENDS/MUTUALS!! Please note, if you are younger than 18 I will NOT be your close friend, close mutuals at most. This is just due to safety! (Pre-established friends before I became an adult are still a nd will remain my friends.)
Pets! I own,,, a few. Just a small little amount. They're all my babies though and I adore them. I do my beast to take proper care of them and give them long, happy and fulfilling lives! Hiraeth and Ravage both came from litters I've raised! (Hiraeth being an accident and Ravage from a foster litter.) Ember was my sibling's cat but became mine because she just,,, likes me more? My other pets were 100% intended! All of these guys are spoiled rotten,,,
Silly little notes/explanations!!
Cupioromantic/sexual; someone who doesn't feel/feels little romantic/sexual attraction but desires a romantic/sexual relationship
Demiboy; someone whose gender identity partially identifies with masculinity, but is not entirely binary
I've been in relationships before! However, I generally only feel platonic love for people around me. I genuinely love (/p) all of my friends and you'll see me make that very clear! I am NOT interested in relationships, especially after this most recent one. Things have gotten complicated AF and I don't even want to bother entertaining anyone.
I have a Decepticon Insignia Tattoo on my left wrist! My first tattoo ever and I LOVE it so much! I will be going back in October for hopefully, my second tattoo!
I own a 2001 Ford Mustang!! It's a convertible too! I ADORE my car so much and there is so much I have planned for it!!
I own 4 dogtags! They are NOT military related at all though! They just have special meaning to me and I've been wearing them since 2018! I did actually let someone borrow one of them for a decent amount of time but it was returned to me! I don't think I'm ever going to let them go again, they mean too much to me.
Ravage is named after the TF character! :D He was my little gaming buddy back when I was fostering a litter of kittens for my senior project. I ended up keeping him, I got too attached. Now he is best friends with Ember!
Hiraeth was a TOTAL accident. I was supposed to just have her mom but she was pregnant much to our surprise! (Someone was getting rid of her, probably because they knew she was pregnant, and gave her to us without telling us that lol) I was allowed to keep Hiraeth but none of the other cats were allowed :( They all went to loving homes though!
Discord is my main, preferred way of communication!! I always have it open on my second monitor so I tend to respond really quickly on there :) You should totally add me on there! I'm under the same username ;)
Feel free to interact with me!! Just be aware of my boundaries and DNI! (Very basic btw!) I'm always happy to chat and meet new people :)
I want to make a comic!! I have so much more planning before I can work on it though :( One day! You may see little teasers to it being posted on my socials!!
This blog is my SFW blog!! I do have,, other accounts but those will remain unnamed! If you are curious and have your age visible feel free to ask me about it in DMs!
WHEW, I think that's enough personal info that I'm putting on the internet LMFAOOO I'll be sure to redo this next year as well ;))
Quick Reminder!!   I DO NOT allow people to reupload, repost, claim, trace, reference or use my art without my Permission! If my art is posted anywhere else other than my accounts it’s not mine! If you like my work, consider following me or commissioning me!! (This does not count if the art was made for you! Please remember to credit me though!!)
Art Trades are Open! Commissions are Open!! Do NOT ask me about Requests!! Do NOT; Reupload, Repost, Claim, Trace, Reference or use my art without my Permission! 💜

These cost less than the hardtop yes and they're worthless but they have five to six hundred horsepower just the same. And they don't look like a super car with a convertible. And people don't like them and they buy them they're upset and they like the one with hardtop but they like this version of the car better yeah I don't like the Audi this is a Vader for a version of it and that's why they like it and they want to be Vader and it doesn't say it which is good for them they say. And it would be lighter and a lot faster and more secure a lot safer the rating would go up three or four points and it's ridiculous with the convertible it goes up about seven points. I'm into this these used when they started making them I believe 2014 you can get one or sell one for about 50 Grand or around there sometimes less if it's convertible and you go all the way up to 2024 and there are still only about 90 grand and they didn't take off for some reason it's an amazing car but it doesn't go fast top speed of the latest car is about 270 mph no it's 230 mph which is terrible our cars will go I estimate about 450 mph on this chassis and it's a very nice chassis just suspension is high performance the engine is already made engine it's a perfect car and it's European and I'm already getting into it it's difficult there's a lot more of these than there are the boxers no but there's a bunch literally there there's a lot of these and it's about equal and people are coming in now but I'll probably have half a billion boxers when all said and done and in the same number of Audi but the Ford mustang would put me into the big time and I'm not ready for that this car will put us into the supercar arena because of the horsepower and the top speed he thinks it's going to be over 450 mph and I happen to agree with the little 300 horsepower we have which goes to 350 we get about 385 mph this is a big leap and it's a very nice engine it's a racing engine and it's going to be awesome so I'm accepting the Audi R8 as a donor car for the conversion and the pricing should be about the exactly the same
Bg
Good great I'm going to send right down
Mac daddy
We got a bunch of these this is much better this thing's going to be flying around and has a roll cage and it's integral and it's going to be nice
Trump
This is great work and it's our son and his wife a little bit but really our grandson and his wife is Savage opress it is awesome where he went to this Audi R8 and I said think so our son thinks so because he just pulled it right up and before he couldn't find it and it's true too you may have seen it a little but thought okay well sorry you're super car but really this is going to work this is great and switching to the mustang is a great idea once they run out these early versions will be famous they're going to handle really really well too these will be a little bit better
Thor Freya
I got to tell you we got to get to other things but this is awesome we're going ahead and we're going to do this and the car's hours it's our design all of them and we have different kids couples doing the different designs and we're from different lines of course but you can tell
Savage opress
I really need you guys for help they're saying it should be a different model because it's a different chassis and he says it probably should not and they agree and I have five models and you just change the designation and it makes it significant I'm going to do that too is an Audi and it's a Porsche is a Porsche and that's what I was thinking but you're right it should it should be my design I'm going forwards with it. And eventually we'll build the whole car and there's no reason to build them as a tube frame it doesn't work good and those things can go together differently and you can actually stamp the chassis that works really well comes out as one piece everything attaches to it and you're done it's not a big deal it's actually a very very smooth and so Austin Martin

We're going to get this done Savage oppress

Why Americans Stopped Buying Convertibles
We’ve Traded the Open-air Dream For Climate-Controlled Isolation.
— Mark Dent | May 3, 2023
Tumblr media
A year after I graduated college, I decided to buy a car. I’d been driving a hand-me-down Hyundai sedan, but I wanted something more reliable for the miles I racked up driving around sprawling Dallas for my job as a reporter.
At first, I narrowed my search to the Mazda 6 — at least it was more fun than a Corolla. But as I saved a few options online, hoping for something in dark green, I said to hell with all that. I could buy a convertible for roughly the same price.
A couple weeks later, a dealer showed me a 2004 Ford Mustang, white with a cream-colored canvas top. He pressed a switch on the center console, and down went the top for my test drive. I’d never ridden in a convertible before. On back roads twisting through farmland, it felt like the sky had been lowered from the atmosphere, settling just a few feet above me, close enough to touch the clouds.
Tumblr media

I bought the Mustang and drove it back into the city with the top down. Over the next couple years, I drove it like that as often as I could: on cool nights with the heat turned on and windows rolled up, on a summer road trip nearly all the way through Kansas until the sunburn became unbearable.
I never got sick of the convertible. It turned everyday monotony into an adventure, replaced the rigid confinement of sedans and SUVs with freedom and openness. Who wouldn’t want one?
But the year I bought my Mustang, in 2010, US convertible sales were down to ~140K, less than half of what they’d been just a few years earlier. That was during the Great Recession, near the auto industry’s nadir. Still, the decline has continued.
According to S&P Global Mobility, new retail registrations of convertibles totaled ~70K in the 12 months between March 2023 and February 2024, comprising ~0.6% of all vehicle sales. That’s down from ~2% in the mid-2000s.
2023 sales of the Mustang convertible, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, were down ~87% compared to 2001. Its rival, the Chevrolet Camaro, has been discontinued.
Convertibles are an endangered species, along with the American ethos they exemplified. When Carvana polled Americans on their dream cars last year, the most coveted was an SUV. The characteristic they sought most in their dream car wasn’t emotional attachment — it was technology.
We’re losing the messy, hair-flowing-in-the-wind version of the American Dream to something climate-controlled and closed off to the world. And we might never get it back.
The Car That ‘Satisfies A Youthful Ambition’
Growing up in the ’90s, I rode countless, boring miles in the passenger seats of my dad’s Toyota Camry sedan and mom’s Plymouth Voyager minivan.
I pined for a more exotic ride just out of my reach. My next-door neighbor had an old European convertible — a midlife crisis purchase if there ever were one — and I remember the college-aged woman across the street pulling into her family’s driveway (and looking far cooler) in a Mazda Miata.
This yearning went back generations, to the time automakers, after painstakingly working to enclose early model cars with roofs, realized they could spark people’s imaginations (and extract more from their wallets) by offering a topless experience.
Tumblr media
From Rhett Butler to beachgoers, everybody loved the convertible. Hulton Archive/H. Armstrong Roberts/Classicstock/Tom Kelley/Gary Leonard/Getty Images
Costing anywhere from $2K to $5K in the 1930s, roughly 2x-4x the average family income at the time, convertibles made by Duesenberg, Rolls-Royce, and Packard became status symbols for the prosperous few who could afford them.
“It is possible to follow the careers of stars through their motor cars,” noted a reporter in 1938. “When he or she first reaches the dizzy heights of movie fame, flash, gaudy cars are in order.”
Clark Gable owned a Packard convertible, and actor Wayne Morris preferred a topless ride in his Lincoln Zephyr “in any type of weather.” Marlene Dietrich was chauffeured in a tan Rolls-Royce convertible.
“No doubt,” wrote the reporter, “the gaudy car… satisfies a youthful ambition — and all of us have had it.”
The less starry got to fulfill their desires when Chevy, Lincoln, and Buick introduced roomy, space-aged convertibles in the ’50s and ’60s. My grandparents bought a 1962 seafoam-green Impala.
In 1964, Ford released the Mustang, the brainchild of famed auto developer and executive Lee Iacocca. Priced at ~$2.3K, or about one-third of the median family income, the Mustang was a magnet for middle-class Americans who wanted to inject adventure into their daily lives. It also helped bring annual convertible sales to ~500K in the mid-’60s, around 5% of total vehicle sales in America.
Safety concerns and a weak economy put a kibosh on convertible dreams in the ’70s. Cadillac claimed its ’76 Eldorado would be the last convertible ever designed, and total convertible sales fell to ~43K in 1982. But Iacocca reignited the flame with the release of the Chrysler LeBaron that year, ushering in the expanding convertible landscape I grew up with.
Tumblr media
The Hustle
My dream car back then was a Dodge Viper, but I saw more practical convertibles everywhere in the ’90s, the peak era for manufacturers to turn the simplest of car models into adventure machines, equipped with rollover bars or fortified support pillars for safety.
The Pontiac Sunfire, Toyota Paseo, Chevrolet Cavalier, Mercury Capri, Honda Civic del Sol, Ford Probe, and Geo Metro (which could’ve lost to a riding lawn mower in a drag race) all had convertible versions.
Tumblr media
The not-so-fast Geo Metro exemplified the wide variety of convertibles available a generation ago. Cars & Bids
Annual convertible sales Climbed to ~170K in the mid-’90s. They increased to ~315K in 2004, about 2% of the entire vehicle market, as automakers perfected the retractable hard top (and, somehow, convinced Americans to buy PT Cruiser convertibles).
Yet, as I failed to save for a Toyota Celica convertible by my 16th birthday — my realistic vision of a gaudy purchase — a tectonic market shift was underway. You could see it reflected in choices made from the Heartland to Hollywood.
After Good Will Hunting catapulted Matt Damon and Ben Affleck onto the A-list, for instance, they splurged on cars just like Gable, Morris, and other young stars before them.
Except they bought Jeep Grand Cherokees. “The really dope new truck at the time,” Affleck later explained to IMDB.
The SUV Loophole
Back in the late ’70s, the legal distinction that helped precipitate the decline of convertibles (and cars in general) seemed insignificant. A loophole the size of a needle eye.
In response to the oil crisis and a burgeoning environmental movement, federal regulations went into effect in 1978 requiring automakers’ passenger car fleets to meet a fuel standard of 18 miles per gallon. But “passenger cars” meant sedans, station wagons, coupes, and convertibles.
It didn’t apply to “light trucks” such as minivans, pickups, and SUVs, the latter two of which were mostly used by farmers, contractors, and laborers who needed the extra space for hauling material. To avoid placing an economic burden on workers, light-truck fleets were subjected to lower standards. While automakers had to shrink cars to hit the fuel standard, light trucks remained spacious.
So began an emphasis on SUVs and trucks (and minivans, at least until an association with soccer moms doomed them). SUV sales increased from ~112K in 1981 to ~800K in 1987.
Most Americans still didn’t need to haul anything, but they were hooked. In 1987, a J.D. Power and Associates survey even found SUV owners felt a sense of adventure while driving them — similar to a convertible.
For automakers, the economics checked out.
“You can sell a Cadillac for a lot more than a Chevy even though the Cadillac only costs marginally more to produce than a Chevy. The same thing goes for those truck-based SUVs because they’re sold as rugged,” says David Lucsko, an Auburn University professor who researches automotive history. “You can sell them at a premium and rake in the profits.”
Tumblr media
The Hustle
Later, brands popularized the crossover utility vehicle, giving consumers the space of an SUV with a smoother ride. Crossovers, despite being built on the same frame as a car, are typically classified as light trucks. The takeover was complete: Light trucks outsold cars for the first time in 2002. Their sales now comprise nearly 80% of the vehicle market.
No Cars Means No Convertibles
That shift has filled the roads with increasingly large vehicles, which is hardly an ideal environment for convertibles. But Drew Dorian, managing editor for Car and Driver, says he’s doubtful safety fears have driven their decline, noting that safety-concerned families would be unlikely to buy convertibles anyway.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found that, while SUVs have lower driver fatality rates than the average vehicle, convertibles aren’t any less safe than enclosed sedans or coupes.
Speaking of sedans and coupes: Many brands don’t even make them anymore. The only Ford car that hasn’t been discontinued in North America, for instance, is the Mustang. No more Taurus or Focus or Fusion. That’s been really bad for convertibles, which are typically derived from cars.
To develop all those ’90s convertibles, automakers just tweaked the design of popular sedans at a low cost. Now, according to Tom Libby, associate director of industry analysis and loyalty solutions at S&P Global Mobility, cars aren’t popular enough to justify turning into convertibles.
“To propose a convertible now, it’s almost impossible to create a proposal that includes a volume that’s big enough to make money,” he says.
Tumblr media
The Hustle
Money is also in short supply. Car companies are investing huge sums in the transition to electric vehicles, Libby says, and sales of EVs slowed last year, complicating the calculus of how to emphasize true EVs vs. hybrids.
Just as the purchase of a convertible requires a feeling of relative financial security and a sense of boldness, so does the act of designing one. And right now most automakers lack both.
Opting For Open Air
As with movies and clothing, trends rarely die in the auto industry. They go into hibernation until one successful experiment draws copycats and the trend becomes inescapable.
Just as the success of Iacocca’s Chrysler LeBaron led other brands to turn popular car models into convertibles in the ’80s and ’90s, Libby can imagine brands developing SUV convertibles as they seek niches for consumers demanding greater variation.
This makes sense: There’s increased time for adventure as millennials delay having kids or don’t have them at all. While summers may be excruciatingly hot, especially in the Sunbelt, the other seasons are warmer than ever. And Gen Zers crave experiences.
“The enjoyment of open air,” Libby says, “I don’t think that’s gone away.”
“But based on what happened to Nissan a few years ago,” he adds, “I don’t think [SUV convertibles are] imminent.”
He’s referring to Nissan’s crossover Murano convertible, which failed to gain traction in the 2010s. Land Rover’s Evoque was also swiftly discontinued. Americans spoke with their wallets: They didn’t want the open air.

When I’m driving on temperate days, I rarely even see other drivers with their windows down. That might not be a coincidence. Lucsko, the car historian at Auburn, says automakers now design vehicles for consumers to seal themselves in.
“I think the car has become more and more a cocoon where we go to be isolated from the world,” he says.
Driving a convertible means being exposed to the world. It means embracing the elements and putting yourself out there, an ever-harder proposition in our increasingly curated, digital lives.
My own convertible era ended years ago. I had to ditch my Mustang for a move to hilly, snowbound central Pennsylvania. But I haven’t ditched my ambition for the open air, and I hope Americans haven’t either. Whether it’s a classic droptop or a futuristic roofless SUV, it will always feel good to say to hell with all that and buy a convertible.

Video: 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDU3Kd2AV84 The Ford Mustang EcoBoost returns for 2024, offering a turbocharged four-cylinder alternative to the traditional V8 'Stang. With improved power and efficiency, sophisticated tech features and standout styling, the new Mustang EcoBoost aims to deliver accessible performance and everyday livability. As muscle car buyers increasingly consider the benefits of smaller forced-induction engines, Ford has worked hard to ensure the Mustang EcoBoost provides brisk acceleration, agile handling and Mustang swagger. The 2024 model promises to raise the bar even further. Overview of the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost The Mustang EcoBoost made its debut for the 2015 model year as Ford introduced a new turbo-4 option alongside the classic 5.0L V8 in the sixth-generation S550 platform. With each model year update, Ford has refined the 2.3L turbocharged engine to provide V8-like power and an authentic Mustang experience. For 2024, the Mustang EcoBoost evolves with styling, technology and performance enhancements aimed at maximizing driving enjoyment in an attainable package. It offers strong value as the most affordable way into a new Mustang, while still delivering quick acceleration, nimble handling and the latest tech features. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Engine, Performance and Transmission Powering the new EcoBoost is an upgraded 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, which features a number of improvements to increase power and performance. This sporty turbo-4 generates 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, gains of 5 horses and 30 lb-ft respectively. Acceleration is seriously quick, with Ford estimating 0-60 mph times of 5.0-6.0 seconds. Top speed is an exhilarating 121-155 mph, proving this pony has some kick. Putting the power down is a slick-shifting 10-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters and rev-matching downshifts. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Fuel Economy and MPG Despite its strong performance, the new 2.3L turbocharged engine also excels when it comes to fuel efficiency. EPA estimates for the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost check in at: City MPG: 20-22 Highway MPG: 27-33 Combined MPG: 23-26 These numbers match or even exceed four-cylinder versions of muscle car competitors. The EcoBoost’s large 16-gallon fuel tank allows it to achieve generous cruising range as well. Excellent mileage is aided by efficient turbocharging, direct injection and advanced transmission technologies. Whether tearing up back roads or on a long highway journey, the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost allows you to maximize both performance and efficiency. Gasoline expenses are kept relatively low for a powerful 300+ horsepower sports coupe. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Exterior Styling and Dimensions The refreshed exterior design of the 2024 Mustang lends a more aggressive, sculpted appearance to the iconic coupe profile. Up front, a new front fascia with larger air intakes flanking the grille gives the EcoBoost an athletic stance. More chiseled body lines run along the flanks, while new taillights highlight the rear. Available in fastback coupe or convertible body styles, the new EcoBoost measures 189.4 inches long with a 107-inch wheelbase. Width is 75.4 inches, while height comes in between 54.8-55.0 inches. Supported by a stiffer chassis tuned for precision handling, the Mustang EcoBoost incorporates lightweight materials to keep curb weight around 3,600-3,750 pounds. With its classic long-hood, short-deck proportions and aggressive new styling elements, the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost turns heads while displaying its own unique character compared to the V8 GT model. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Interior Design, Space and Materials The 2024 Mustang EcoBoost provides a driver-focused cockpit optimized for performance driving, with available premium details and technology. Legroom is ample up front, while rear seats fold down to expand cargo space.
Comfortable front seats are sculpted to keep occupants in place during spirited driving. Passenger space measures 55 cubic feet, more than many compact coupes. The rear seat area offers a decent 27-30 cubic feet of space. Mustang convertible models have less usable rear seat room, but provide unlimited headroom when the top is down. Higher trim levels add leather upholstery and upgraded trim materials for an upscale ambiance. The EcoBoost Premium model provides features like ambient interior lighting, chrome and aluminum accents, soft-touch surfaces and an available exposed carbon fiber instrument panel. For carrying luggage or bulky items, the EcoBoost's trunk provides 10-13 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seatbacks folded down. A split-folding rear seat allows carrying longer objects. Interior storage includes a lockable glovebox and front/rear cupholders. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Technology and Connectivity The 2024 Mustang EcoBoost offers Ford's latest Sync 4 infotainment system with voice recognition, Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, Amazon Alexa capability, and over-the-air software updates. An 8-inch touchscreen is standard, with a larger 12-inch screen optional. The available Bang & Olufsen premium audio system provides vivid sound quality. Active safety tech on board includes pre-collision assist, blind spot monitoring, lane keeping system and rearview camera. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Handling, Steering and Suspension Engineered for peak performance, the new EcoBoost features a dynamically tuned platform and fully independent suspension for agile handling. The standard multilink rear suspension provides precise control, while the available MagneRide adaptive dampers sharpen response further. Quick electric power steering delivers sharp turn-in and excellent road feel through the steering wheel. Large four-piston Brembo front brake calipers supply strong stopping power, while wider staggered-width wheels and tires come with the EcoBoost Performance Package. On twisty roads and the race track, the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost impresses with its balanced performance focus. This is a true driver's car in the making. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Pricing, Trims and Options The 2024 Mustang EcoBoost offers strong value with a starting price around $32,500 for the base fastback coupe. Stepping up to the Premium trim adds luxury details and tech for around $38,000. Major standalone options include the 12-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive suspension dampers, 19-inch wheels and summer performance tires. The EcoBoost Performance Package bundles upgraded brake, wheels, tires and chassis components for $4,995. Well-equipped EcoBoost models provide similar features as the V8 Mustang GT for several thousand less, giving buyers more ways to customize their perfect pony car. 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Reliability and Ownership Costs Ford's EcoBoost turbocharged engines have proven quite dependable, and the 2.3L in the Mustang has had few significant issues reported. This bodes well for low maintenance and repair costs. The turbo-4 responds well to regular oil changes and services. Major components like the turbo, fuel injectors and cooling system have held up very well over tens of thousands of miles in most cases. The 10-speed transmission is also smooth and problem-free based on previous models. Ford provides thorough warranty protection including a 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. Insurance rates and fuel costs arereasonable for a 300+ horsepower coupe. Overall running costs are thousands less per year than more powerful GT models. How 2024 Mustang EcoBoost Compares to Rivals The Mustang EcoBoost lines up closely against four-cylinder versions of domestic muscle rivals. The Chevy Camaro Turbo-4 offers competitive power and a slightly lower starting price. The Dodge Challenger V6 provides a smoother, torque-rich V6 and bigger back seat, but poorer fuel economy.
Among the four-cylinder pony cars, the Mustang stands out with its usable rear seat, sharper handling dynamics and range of customization options. Shoppers focused on power for the money will still want to consider the V8s, but the four-cylinder models make a strong case as fun daily drivers. Expert and Owner Reviews of 2024 Mustang EcoBoost First drive reviews praise the 2024 Mustang EcoBoost's stronger acceleration, improved chassis dynamics and stylish cockpit. The turbo-4 pulls hard to redline, while avoiding excessive turbo lag. Steering, handling and brake feel are more dialed-in. Owners report the EcoBoost is plenty quick for merging and passing. Fuel economy surpasses 30 mpg on the highway. Drawbacks mentioned include a firmer ride and limited rear seat space. Reviews give the EcoBoost high marks for its nimble handling and everyday livability. FAQs Is the EcoBoost fast? Yes, its 0-60 mph time under 6 seconds is on par with many sports cars. Does it feel quick? Very much so. The urgent turbo torque provides a potent rush. Is the engine reliable? So far, the 2.3L turbo-4 has proven to be trouble-free for most drivers. What gas mileage does it get? 27-33 mpg highway per Ford, with 30+ mpg observed by many owners. Does it require premium fuel? No, 87 octane gas is recommended. Does it sound good? It has a sporty turbocharged growl, but naturally lacks the V8's rumble. How’s the handling and braking? Short stopping distances and high limits make it nimble on twisty roads. When does it go on sale? Look for the 2024 EcoBoost at dealerships in late 2023. For buyers seeking an attainable blend of Mustang style, performance and tech, the improved 2024 EcoBoost hits a sweet spot. Real-world fuel efficiency, accessible pricing and low running costs add to its appeal as a smart performance value. The turbo-4 'Stang builds on its strengths to stay in the muscle car hunt. #Wiack #Car #CarInsurance #CarRental #CarPrice #AutoLoans
