when i see aa fans not even giving aa5 and 6 a chance it's just so. sad to me. like you can never know what your opinion on something is until you give it a try and why wouldn't you do that for a series you love? i understand that pre-AJ trilogy remaster it was more difficult to play 5/6 but that's also not the case anymore since they're now on all platforms
it's especially bizarre when it seems to be purely a fandom echo chamber perspective like.. aa5 and 6 have the same metacritic score as aa3, one of the most beloved games in the fandom. aa5 is the highest rated aa game by famitsu. i know critic scores are rarely the best indicator for a game's quality but these games don't even have mixed critic/audience ratings and yet they're treated like the worst things to ever happen to the series by large groups of fans?
and it isn't like the older games don't have parts that are heavily criticized but for some reason flaws are just. impermissible for these two games. i don't know it just sucks i wish more people would trust their own judgments instead of blindly following others... everyone has different tastes and will experience things differently!!
tl;dr can you at least hate on aa5 and 6 after playing them. PLEASE
#satsusays#also like as a famously 2d -> 3d transition hater i think aa is really one of the least heinous that i've seen.#i still have issues with how some of the older characters look in 3d but it feels like they made it up with their new ones#also i want people to buy the games if possible but i will literally share links if people need them#(it'll have to be by dm i'm not putting it out in public)#idk being an aa6 fan just feels so stupid sometimes. 'what's your fave aa game' oh yknow the one you didn't play#anyway every time i see aa6 chars left out in a group pic an angel dies </3#i don't want to keep thinking/talking about soj negativity but like i think people who don't want to try it at all make me more upset#if i can make even ONE aa fan pick up aa6 i will be happy o<-<

looking through the dual destinies and spirit of justice sprites really has me like "did ace attorney have a rough transition to 3d or do some of the sprite animations just not work in 3d like they do 2d"
#yes theres a difference. “rough transition to 3d” generally means the entire game is messy#additionally usually “rough transition to 3d” implies they couldn't help how the 3d stuff turned out#100% convinced that if they hadn't stuck to some of the 2d sprite animations it wouldn't be QUITE as awkward as it is#not all the sprites in dd and soj are awkward either. they just decided to keep the 2d sprite animations#for some characters that works (ema and trucy for example) but for others (APOLLO) it feels SO awkward on some animations#klavier. i just hate klavier's model. i love his animations though lol. his hair flip after his laughing animation? 10/10#the other issue is that dual destinies and spirit of justice feel like they were animated using a regular 3d animation software#im 100% convinced that the reason the animation on tgaa's sprites is so nice in comparison is because they used motion capture#i dont know if dd and/or soj used mocap but it feels like they didnt and i think its one of the issues with the sprites#most of the designs arent any more or less realistic than tgaa's designs. mocap would work for dd and soj's sprites#anyway enjoy in-the-tags the ramblings about the sprites of a game i havent played yet lmao#ace attorney#dual destinies#spirit of justice#ramble in the tags

i feel like you guys went above and beyond to do everything possible to make megamind 2 as good as possible which i really appreciate
aw man thank you!!! contrary to what the public might believe, we really did want to make the best show we could but we were stuck with the time restraints and slashed budget that they forced upon us 😭
#to be honest#the movie looks so much better in its animatics boards form bc the posing and expression is so much livelier#alot of the energy got lost as it transitioned from 2d into 3d animation :'))))))))))))#askbox

I made this because I love Sonic Adventure, but everyone trying to go “Yeah, Super Mario 64 also had a rough transition to 3D!” is delusional. You are actually making my post less credible by acting like there was something wrong with SM64.
#pretending like sm64 was anything less than perfect is cope there’s no other way around it#you’re also completely missing the point#i’m saying sa1 didn’t have a rough transition to 3d#it plays almost exactly like how you’d hope the 2d games would play in 3d

Do not hit me up bro this azran legacy shit gets serious
#ihave to say rewatching the last two hours of the game or so. i love it dearly but man they use the sad song like. a ridiculous amount 😭#the song called warmth & kindness if memory serves?#and im realizing now that perhaps these games will not hit everyone as hard as it hit me#specifically because i love the voice acting it really works for me like. theyre cartoonish thats part of the charm#but i think some people would listen to it and not actually find it that sad. descole is quite over the top and i love him to death#but revealling his tragic past and still talking like hes the phantom of the fucking opera#is a little funny. Scene still sends a pang through my heart though#anyway i know the transition from 2d sprites to 3d was weird but they made the animations totally work in their favor#like the characters can do a lot more really small things and i like that its fun#i dontrmemeber how much they did that in miracle mask tho#muffin mumbles#Anyway whst if i died right now. what if the world blew up. this series fucked me up dude 🥲🥲 AURORAAAAAAA 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🫡🫡🫡

I need more info on the get better children au, especially about when Bill shows up.
*rubs hands together* I finally got some extra time to draw up some new art for this AU, so let's give it some substance >:3 Long post below the read more with extra art :D
Before Euclydia was destroyed, Euclid and Scalene Cipher were some of its most powerful members. Bill saying that everyone loved him as a baby was true for a time; children aren't born very often, and the Ciphers are considered to almost be royalty. It wasn't until Bill's mutation became apparent that people began to shun him. If he had been born to any other family, he likely would have been abandoned.
Though neither Euclid nor Scalene could really comprehend the concept of something being "up", let alone what "stars" could possibly be, both of them used their status to try and find any scrap of forbidden information, hoping that they could find an answer, could find some confirmation that their son wasn't crazy, and didn't need to be blinded by his "medicine."
It was this research that eventually saved their lives. Having the knowledge that it was possible for things to, hypothetically, exist in a three dimensional plane allowed them to pool their powers and create 3D forms for themselves when Euclydia began to burn, pulling themselves off the 2D plane like a sticker being peeled off a page. It wasn't a smooth transition in the slightest, and the flames managed to damage parts of their bodies before they managed to fully free themselves. The rest of their power went into escaping their collapsing reality, and when all was said and done, they were left near catatonic and floating in the space between time and space for many, many years.
They don't really start to recover until a certain frilly guy upstairs nudges them into a new, stable dimension. This one is almost entirely 3D, and inhabited by creatures that look completely alien to the Euclydians. Creatures called humans.
They meet Dipper and Mabel not long after, and the two triangles attach themselves to the babies, doing their best to care for them in their weakened states when their young, unprepared parents fail to be adequate caretakers. Being 2D is far easier for them, so they stick to the walls like shadows and find ways to speak to the twins, slipping into videos and pictures, music and books, their forms changing slightly to match whatever media they slipped into. They teach Dipper and Mabel their colours, shapes, ABC's, ect, comfort them when they get sad or scared, and once they're old enough, how to do basic things like getting themselves food and water when they get left alone too long.
Neither Pines parent really notices their children making grabby hands and babbling at open air at first, though they do become a bit concerned when years pass and they still stare at walls and empty corners like there's something there.
Eventually, as we all know, the Pines twins get shipped off to a sleepy town in Oregon, and Euclid and Scalene are, of course, coming along to watch over their little stars. However, they become deeply uncomfortable when they start to see visages of their son carved into every room of the twin's temporary home.
It doesn't take long for the show's antics to start, but Grunkle Stan gets involved in the twins adventures far earlier because during The Inconveniecing, Euclid uses his ability to manipulate televisions to play one of those old PSA's on loop until he gets spooked enough to actually check on the twins, only to find them missing.
Eventually, through the help of Scalene using a radio to drag up an old advert for the Dusk 2 Dawn, he figures out where they are and arrives just in time to see the tail end of their ghostly encounter. Unable to deny his knowledge of Gravity Falls' weirdness, he and the twins have their Season 1 finale talk that night, and Dipper shows Stan Journal 3, which leads to all three of them searching for Journal 2 (Stan doesn't reveal the portal yet)
Bill gets summoned by Gideon like in Canon, but things veer wildly off course when, upon entering Stan's mind, Mabel asks him if he knows Euclid or Scalene. He freezes up upon hearing the names of his parents, and he immediately calls off the deal with Gideon, ripping himself out of Stan's Dreamscape. Before he can process what happened, he comes face to face with someone he's only seen in daymares for the past trillion years
Bill dips the fuck out once he realizes he's not hallucinating, disappearing to Axolotl knows where to do fun, productive things such as: scream, cry, break shit, sob on the floor, drink until the teeth in his eye ache, stare at the space between stars for days on end, and interrogate every single one of his henchmaniacs to see if they spiked his drink.
Mans has absolutely zero clue on how to navigate this situation, eventually settling on stalking the Pines because he genuinely cannot think of any possible way to approach his (apparently alive????) parents. How do you go about atoning for the extinction of your entire species?
Bill Cipher has never been one to do things for others for any other reason than to get something back, but he figures the best place to start is by protecting these fleshy human young that his parents seem so attached to.
Wait, would that make them siblings? Axolotl, he sure hopes not.

your shading is AMAZING specially when its conveying organic forms..... do you have any tips for people who dont know wrf going on (with shading)
ok so HI. hi. my old tutorial pisses me off so i will make a new one
i made a guy whose sole purpose is to be shaded so dont worry he likes it. and his name. his name will be mr. Boob. mr boob does not have to be blue
theres probably way better explanations of how to do it but unfortunately trying to "emulate" shading does ask you to somewhat understand ur character in a 3d way. like what would the 2d shape be if you "sliced" it? mr boob is made of so many circles. his tail also does a kind of weird perspective foreshortening thing because its pointing at you. is this being conveyed
you obviuously dont have to draw a horrendous grid on your characters skin to do this . BUT it helps you put down (or at least envision) the lines of the form shading :
dont worry about cast shadows or the shading color because this is FORM SHADOW time only. think about what surfaces of the character are obviously facing away from the light source and put down the "separation line" of the shading based on that. thr most important thing is that youre trying to separate light from dark
im going to pick the first one for cast shadows bc it will be the most obvious to me
ok so. his ears and snout are blocking other surfaces of his body from the light, which means a shadow is cast!!!! bam. i saw someone describe cast shadows as what the light's pov "can't see." his entire body is putting down a cast shadow on the ground too
im impatient so i blended the form shadows now. its usually the easiest to just NOT blend cast shadows as a way of conveying that they are still cast shadows. but you can still blend them if you want to show "distance" between the obstruction and the surface its blocking. but its just a way of saying form and cast shadows should not be treated the same even if their softness coincides
im going to lump reflection and ambient light together because theyre like. similar. reflections dont just happen in mirrors
since the sky is blue, making the ambient lighting, i tinged mr. boobs existing shadow to be a bit blue. (*this is kind of important because it can help you decide a shading color, which should USUALLY be based on the environment) (unless your character is just in the transparent void then it doesnt matter)
since the ground is pink, i made pink light bounce off of him. pointed and labelled. i dont rlly know how to go more in depth than that
contact shadows are literally shadows formed from direct-touching contact. very little light can reach in there, even from how reflections disperse, which means youre free to use the darkest color available (black). in this case mr. boob is making contact with the floor. because he is sitting on the floor.
i touched him up a bit and wow!!!!!!!!!! look at mr. boob!!! he is so beautifully sculpted.
and one more thing
thats right. i made mr boob PINK. hes fucking ruined now. just kidding i would never say that to him
what im trying to convey here (its the easiest with really light colors) is a transitional color. this can also show subsurface scattering depending on how you use it which is fun to look at. the mistake i made on my last tutorial was "Just pick a warm saturated color!" which is really wrong in examples like Blue mr boob. because it would be weird to use a warm color to transition from blue to blue.
if you have a character that isn't bright enough then obviously the shadows wont be as visible. its BEST to bring more attention to highlights and reflections to reveal the form a bit. they play the biggest role with darker colors
thats all i can think of. fun things to look up:
structuralization + contour lines + foreshortening etc. 3d lingo
form shadows
cast shadows
ambient light
contact shadows
subsurface scattering
im also just speaking out of my ass otherwise. i didnt look up any of these terms until the end now im inferring and hoping i got them right
and remember every time you shade mr boob will be rooting for you

Media I imagine different fiction podcasts in instead of the media of being a podcast.
TMA: A selection of volumes, relating to the fears, each with those removable covers. Those covers has a victim or two, and then underneath the cover is a really detailed cover. The paper is decoratively ripped, with a kind of scraggly font, and each has a foreword and ‘author’s note’ from Jonathan Sims.
Malevolent: A really gritty graphic novel with deadly detail in each panel, and very little color. Maybe a trinket on each important character has a color? Like Arthur’s eyes being yellow or Oscar’s collar having a blue sheen to it. The novels are long, dramatic, and intimate in a visceral way.
Welcome to Night Vale: Local 58 bullshit. A broadcast on television with low quality images and audio, tacky music, and a kind of 80’s aesthetic. Each episode the words WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE zoom onto the screen, the purple eye behind them. And each weather segment is an animated short by a different artist.
The Penumbra(Juno Steel): A webcomic. Hours spent scrolling downward a comic that has so much color and GEOMETRIC design. Juno and his curvy jaw, brown pie slice eyes, a cartoonishly high collar for his investigator jacket. Nureyev and his sharp square jaw, shimmering jewelry, and stick legs. Characters sticking out of the panels, fonts changing constantly, a little blue Juno that does his narration and *guitar theme plays* each time he appears.
Wolf 359: A classic comic. Issues month by month. Different special covers of the characters in extra dramatic poses or scenes. Even MORE panel breaking than Juno Steel. So MUCH onomatopoeia, even for small things like the clink of a panel or the disapproving hiss of Hilbert in the background. Geometric designs like Juno Steel, but less colorful. Like the superhero art style mixed with a more stylized look.
Midnight Burger: You pull up the Midnight Burger website. They have a hidden page that has a sort of script-comic thing going on, where the art is next to the writing. Small coded in notes from Leif sometimes pop up if you hold your arrow over the art. Links are attached to the parts where Effie and Zebulon play music, linking you to the music so you can listen to it while you read.
Desert Skies: An animated show. Indie, something you’d find on YouTube. The animation is bouncy and incorporates 3D animation alongside the 2D. Maybe the Sphere Movers have 3D models and the staff don’t? The credits are short because it was made by one guy. People are complaining about it on Twitter /j. People are making content farms about it. Everyone is pissed at Corson like they’re pissed at Jax.
The Amelia Project: A sort of simulation video game. You play as Arthur. You listen to their stories and draw pieces of the tale to invent their death. Every once in a while the game transitions to a point and click suspense game where you solve puzzles as Cole and Haines. Maybe there should even be an Operation-esque part of it where you work as Kozlowski.
Ghost Wax: A novel with a lot of pictures spliced in it. The stories are all in a single book, though the book is through Luca’s perspective— so he picks up on the ghost’s body language and Voncid’s reactions. The pictures are tarot cards with each victim as a card. Some are repeat cards— Lorem does not have a card at the end of the story. Nor does Our Home or Evening at the Ardent. The pictures are only white with black line art. No color whatsoever.
Kakos Industries: A company newsletter. Not a broadcast. A newspaper that arrives at your door and has big bold letters with the main story and pictures of the events that happen in the story as it goes. And the Sunday Comic page is full of employee shenanigans. Some innocent… some not.
I am losing my mind.

TBHX's beautiful cinematography
I'm a bit late to the tumblr discussion but I'll just share what I wrote on another website when episode 1 came out. WHEN LIN LING ACCEPTS PLAYING THE ROLE OF NICE. They used the black smoke to represent Fear, the emotion that gave power to his boss. In the final part of the fight, after a part of the roof falls and Lin Ling starts to doubt himself, the black smoke engulfs him, showing that he is scared and discouraged, consumed by the Fear. This fear consumes his outer shell (Nice) to reveal himself as he is, or at least how he sees himself at this point: just Lin Ling.
Right after this, it starts the next incredible scene where he remembers everything his boss said and then himself jumping from the building. This scene is entirely in 2D, because we saw before that 2D represents his thoughts, his inner self. Instead of thinking of Nice jumping off the building, now he sees himself jumping and there is a slight change in focus during this scene where: 1st Nice is blurred and 2nd Lin Ling is blurred right before the jump.

It represents them changing roles. Before, Lin Ling played himself and now he is Nice. Lin Ling "died", but Nice lives on. Next, we see Moon extending a hand to Lin Ling saying "I know you can do it, believe in yourself". And he even mentions that this goes according to his own beliefs, that anyone can be a hero.

After he holds her hand, the Fear is cleansed from him, with the power of trust. We see the black smoke go away

Then he's back to "reality" to continue the fight, BUT, there's a catch: The art didn't shift back to main 3D that represents reality, it's still 2D until the fight ends

Meaning that, NOW, he really is Nice. He accepted this fully. The idea of using the "thoughts" art in the "real world" is a metaphor for putting his thoughts into action. It's no longer just in his head, it became reality, he is a hero.
You could even stretch it a little. Right after the fight, when the helicopters arrive, light starts reflecting on Nice's face on one side... This is a pretty common cinematic resource to show moments of a character's transition, realization, awakening... like an eclipse of sorts.
So yeah, this sequence was really powerful and meaningful to the character. ABSOLUTE CINEMA.
#to be hero x#tbhx#tbhx nice#tu bian yingxiong x#nice#凸变英雄x#cinematography#tbhx cinematography#I just have a lot of fun paying attention to these details#I'm a sucker for smart/beautiful cinematography#I think it makes the story a lot richer#it's just that much more meaningful#I can't get over the art/animation/story/characters#own post#tbhx meta#subdeco theory

Had a dream that Monstrosity episodes were 11 minutes in length, and in the first episode we see the Merge and baby Riyu and then a transition from 3D to 2D. Nya says "These look like the start effects of the Merge!" or something as if she personally has any clue what the fuck a Merge is/will be.

The power system in this series continues to be one of the best ever made. The way fans’ perceptions of heroes and everyday people can nerf/buff them mid fight is so fucking cool.

NEVER UNDERESTIMATE A MAN IN LOVE. God eye tried to expose Lin Ling as a fraud and it literally just put him in position to become a legitimate hero in front of the world. Everyone loves a guy willing to sacrifice themselves for the girl they love. SAWANO I LOVE YOUUUU. That fucking climax oh my goodness the way this show transitions from 3D to 2D is just perfect, so satisfying seeing Lin Ling beat God Eye’s ass and shut him up hopefully for good.
BUT THATS NOT REALLY MOON??! She was on an island?? Last 5 minutes is one of the craziest sequences ever bro why can’t they just let my Moon and Lin Ling ship sail I’m tired of the suffering 😭 wtf who shot her and why and how tf did they even show up if she’s been there for weeks solo I’m so confused and need answers

Here’s a personal take!
The Sonic Prime 3D models have the best facial expressions seen from the modern cast. Why? Well, I’ll explain with my 0 experience in 3D animation. I’m only explaining as an observer. Not a professional. Anyways, onto the fun.

First of all, let’s talk about the current models in the games. The animators became better at animating them in Sonic Frontiers.

You can tell effort was being put in, but Frontiers still has limits due to the structure of Sonic’s face and eyes. I’ve seen fan animations with this model which animates him wonderfully. But no matter what, he’s still going to have limitations because his hands are too big, eyes are too far apart, mouth looks like it was made to only stay on the side, and more issues. The design frankly looks dead. Even in motion.

In all fairness, this character was built for a 2D design due to it being inspired by Mickey Mouse. But Sonic Unleashed (because they used different models like Dream Team) proves this character CAN be expressive in 3D with a good workable model. It’s not the animation that’s the problem in Frontiers. Here are similar expressions from Sonic Prime and Frontiers.

See how wider the expressions are in Prime? It allows their faces to be more flexible and warped. Prime!Sonic has rounder eyes making his head look easier for his facial structure to have an array of expressions. It’s kind of close to Sonic Dream Team with the minor tweaks of the OG models. Which is why the expressions in that game looked so good. ESPECIALLY when animated.
It’s even why other designs are able to have great facial expressions. The eyes being close together just works. While the OG looks like he’s pushing expressions that’s near impossible to push. Yes, it’s still expressive, but you can see how limiting it is because the eyes aren’t supporting the face. And his mouth is always stuck to one side.
Onto more compliments to the Sonic Prime models. They emphasize the hight differences too. I personally think Sonic and Shadow look like mixtures between their 06, modern, Boom, and movie designs. They have long quills like 06. Their entire look is inspired by the modern designs. Their eyes are shaped similar to Sonic Boom and they have cool textures like in the movies. Other characters count but it most notably is for the two hedgehogs.

The hands are smaller like in the movies and Boom. The pupils being bigger gives volume to the faces. I also adore their fur and quill patterns to give the designs flare. Their gloves have little details too. I especially love how they can change the quills for Sonic and Shadow and make them look similar to a 2D style. Usually they’d make the quills smaller in the games to get that 2D look but Prime Shadow and Sonic are able to have long quills while the animators adjust them however and whenever they need to.
Their mouths are also well animated and smooth when transitioning to different sides of the face. The characters body shapes are also 100% better. While the Game model looks too straight the Prime model has a pear shape torso that are also given to Boom and Movie Sonic respectively. The Prime models look like they were made for action scenes.

I know some people complain about the eyes not going down, but honestly it’s what makes the expressions weaker when used in 3D. I’m glad they have a balance of it sometimes to allow the expressions to get their points across. I really appreciate the colors on everyone also. They look lovely and bright with help of the lighting.
The few critiques I have are due to multiple watches but they’re not a HUGE deal.
1. I can easily see their necks at points.
2. The mouth animation looks weird when characters makes an O shape and the tongues/teeth are jarring.
3. I wish their hands weren’t so flat and skinny. Other models had their hands shaped like Disney characters, but Prime’s hands can look flat sometimes.
These are just nitpicks though.
Even compared to the CGI cutscenes while still good I think Prime conveys a subtly previous models didn’t do too often. Of course the CGI looks amazing and it still holds up, but the nuance in Sonic Prime cannot be ignored. Hope my take makes the slightest of sense.
Stay Creative! 💜
