my biggest fear for the old guard 2 is that it’ll be too epic. the first one obviously has amazing and huge scenes but it is so grounded by these characters and their connection to humanity. the trailer for tog 2 is putting more of a focus on how big and epic it’s going to be: the car chase, nile and andy with the window, everyone breaking into this facility, and andy’s and uma thurman’s character’s fight. meanwhile quynh and andy’s reunion was reduced to a 5 second clip of them fighting and we see nothing about how the dynamics between the immortals has changed with andy losing her immortality. i’m just worried that instead of focusing on what made the old guard so good and set it apart from standard action films (the characters and their relationships with each other and humanity) they’ll favor the big action sequences and rushed emotional scenes that are prevalent with big action films.
