Rolling with Difficulties and a breakdown of project creep
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rolling with Difficulty is a live play 5e D&D Planescape podcast. Sophia, who plays Dani (does the Moviestruck podcast and is Overly Sarcastic Productions editor/producer) made several jokes about precious moments figurines in Season 3 so I wanted to make precious moments figurines of the characters. I started that in January of 2023 when Season 3 was playing and I posted it on April 1 of last year.
Since I made those I thought I might as well make minis and since I wanted to reduce the number of packages I held off on sending the precious moments to the RWD PO Box. And since I wanted everything, other than the precious moments figures(because I showed them off while making them), to be a surprise I didn't post any of them. Austin the DM thought that Intellect devourers are too goofy with dog legs so he gave his spider legs which I though was cool so I made it and printed a few. @comicaurora, who plays Kyana, posted some concept art of an ancient drone that appeared for a chapter of Aurora and I was inspired by the one she labeled as dumb so I modeled it. I thought it would be weird to only send one concept and not the one that appears in the comic so I did those too. They got posted earlier and separately since they are not RWD.
By the end of Season 3 I had modeled the original crew and Dani's robot cat Plug and printed a mini of each(plus and extra Dani for season 1 red Dani) for their player and Austin. I though I should send a Plug in scale with the Precious Moments figures and that the rest of the crew would want them. So I printed one for every cast member.
And then between seasons 3 and 4 they did a Weird Little dude one shot giving official art for every crew member's companion. One of Finbar's pixies Old Bay, one of VR-LA's mechanical bugs Drone, and Kyana's pseudo dragon Sunny. So I modeled all of them and printed one for their player and one for Austin. I was trying to paint and send out all them before Season 4 started so I wouldn't have to model Vhas. Well Season 4 ended in September 2023 and I'm posting this now. Season 5 was announced to be the last about the crew of the Per Aspera and I was still procrastinating on painting them so I made peace with them not being painted and just sent them. Austin told me he opened the packages right before recording the last episode of Season 5.
And I ended up needing to send them in two boxes despite not wanting to send more than one being the reason I delayed sending them.

My very first 3D printer, which I bought in 2020, has recently suffered a malfunction of it's motherboard that would be too expensive for me to reasonably fix. As a result, I've decided to say goodbye to the old machine.
Never let it be said that I am not a sentimental person, though, because I felt compelled to memorialize it in the form of it's very own miniature 3D printed replica.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thought it would also be fitting to have my first Pure Vessel, who was nearly all printed on that machine, pay homage to it as well.
Please join me in saying goodbye to my old X-Maker. You got me into this hobby. Printed so many Hollow Knight parts in your time, made so many of my customers happy. You will be missed.
I also wanted this post to be a sort of update for those of you who have been watching my Etsy. I'm going to be out of town for the remainder of June, and possibly the beginning part of July too, so I won't be selling any physical figures during at least that amount of time. I realize that I have been releasing new figures extremely slowly, and I've wanted to rectify that for a while now.
That is why I likely won't be selling any printed figures until I have a new one, or multiple, to include in my lineup. The death of my first printer has luckily spurred some motivation in me to 3D model once again, and I've been working on some personal projects aside from this tiny one. But after that, I'm going to do my damnedest to make some more Hollow Knight figures. Might branch off into Rain World territory as well, but I'm not totally sure yet.
Rest assured, I'll be working on it. Thank you all for your patience.

Had to share all these gorgeous details, like the TEXTURES on this models are just gorgeous! All that filigree and bead detailing is raised which made painting it much easier, but still very tedious (so worth the results though). This was my first time painting a face bigger than tabletop mini scale, and boy was I intimidated. Had some friends point me to ball-jointed doll makers and learned about detailing faces with chalk pastels, so I used pastels to give his cheeks some colour, blush the tips of his ears, and make the shadows under his eyes. I could go back and add more colour/texture to his hair but I think its best if I leave it, lest I play with it too much and end up ruining things. I have to keep reminding myself that just cause I can see things in macro lens photos, doesn't mean I'm actually able to go correct those things 😅
Regardless, I'm so so happy with how he turned out, and its crazy that I can look at this and go "me!!! I PAINTED THAT!! ME!!!", and now I have a stunning model of everyones favourite lil rat bastard (affectionate) vampire mans💕
