4x20: Kate feels Castle is pulling away, rejects Colin’s offer for drinks at first & was ready to talk with Castle

I feel this was more heartbreaking than the last parallel because this is Kate Beckett, ready to confess her feelings. And we all know how difficult that is for her. She doesn’t open up easily to anyone and her walls are so high. She was ready to put her heart on the line again. So to see her go through this twice - I really feel for her 😭😭

Then both times Castle left her in the precinct to go with/to another girl. I’m not putting the blame on Castle. But if I were in Kate’s shoes and I am reminded that this is the second time happening, I’d probably close myself again as the sting from the memory will definitely hurt.

Intentionally or just a coincidence, Kate even made the same emotional reaction in these scenes - in S2 was when Gina told her about the Hamptons and in the S4 scene, when Castle told Jacinda is fun and uncomplicated.

Was also given a word of the day (like, two months ago, sorry) which was "rough". So, here you go: two birds with one stone!

Rough.

She hadn't expected it; the way he slammed her back against the wall. The force of impact caused her to bite down on his lip and she could taste the blood it drew.

She wanted to apologise, but he was unrelenting and she couldn't pull away, couldn't stop. She ran her tongue over the wound to soothe his pain and the guttural moan she incited was like a drug: instantaneously, she was hooked.

His kiss was rough and bruising, like the raw brick he had her pinned to.

His tongue as angry and forceful, as his words had been just moments ago.

What they had been fighting about, she wasn't quite sure. Everything, it seemed.

These past few days nothing was the same as it had been before and she didn't know why. She didn't understand what she had done, how she had hurt him. All she knew was that this felt an awful lot like the beginning of the end.

And that hurt.

Her skin scraped along the porous wall as he leant further into her. His knee slipped in between hers, forcing her legs to part for him; not that she would have denied him, anyway.

Better judgement was a thing of the past, doing the right thing wasn't her concern anymore.

She just wanted this closeness, this illusion that everything between them was fine.

She could lie to herself easily enough, she had been doing it for years now.

She had all but abandoned her watch, closing her eyes and shutting out the world around them - including the man they were supposed to be staking out.

But getting caught now would jeopardise their entire case - that is, after all, why they were currently making out in a seedy alleyway behind one of the city's most infamous nightclubs.

Letting their suspect slip through the cracks now would ensure they still had a case tomorrow. That's what she told herself, anyway.

It wasn't at all, not even slightly, because she couldn't focus on anything more than the taste of his mouth.

The chilled night air filled the space between their bodies, making the loss of his warmth all the more cruel.

His eyes stayed fixed on the dark end of the alley, where their suspect had disappeared into the night, purposefully avoiding hers.

Her arms crossed her torso like a protective shield as she fought to catch her breath.

"Go home, Kate. There's no point in pursuing anymore."

While logic told her he was referring to their suspect; in a relationship built on the precarious foundation of subtext and innuendo, she would never be certain.

"Castle..."

He looked at her, his eyes almost begging her not to continue.

"I'll see you tomorrow?"

It was pathetic how broken and needy she sounded, but she didn't care.

She wanted his reassurance, his promise that this wasn't over yet.

That there was still hope.

"Tomorrow."

Can you talk about the song choices for Jordan and Layla’s storyline?

Can I??? Yes. Some of these might be extrapolating, and some were there to specifically tell their story. But I love it all. Music is so important for enhancing story. Not gonna include all the songs, but here's most.

Wanna start with 2x10? The song's called "Simmer." Or, you know, a slowburn.

Even diagetically, the songs fit. When Jordan finds Layla in 4x01, the song "Meet Me in the Middle" is playing. Hints to them coming together. And then you got the line from the song "Circles" playing at the end where Jordan looks at Layla as the three of them hug:

Seein' it now

At the prom, they dance to a song called "With You on My Shoulder" where the singer is reconnecting with someone they had history with.

The song "Call Me When You Get Home" is playing softly when Layla, her father, and Jordan all have dinner together. And what does she do at the end of the ep?

I mean, 4x15 is pretty blatant, but the song "FIGHT" is Jordan screaming his insecurities.

Then in 4x16, you got "Trust" after their confrontation. And the song is all about trusting yourself first, so it's actually more of Jordan's song in the moment, than Layla's. But it works for Layla and her friendship with Jordan, too.

In 1x09 hc, the song "Good Part" is playing when Simone sees Jordan on the phone with Layla. It's a song about someone desperately wanting to salvage a relationship and get to the happy moments and ignore the rest.

And I always thought it was cute that the song "Go Out" abruptly ends with the title lyrics when Jordan and Layla are high-fiving.

I REALLY love the song choice "No Surprise" in 4x18 at the apparel launch. It works so well with all the different pairings and storylines. And it's pretty on the nose, but the jimone break up song is "The End." And "Cloudy Day" is the perfect closer for the core four on the football field.

And for Jordan's confession, "Til the Light Breaks Through" has these gorgeous lines,

On the other side

In 4x20, you have the fabulous choice of "Could You Be Mine" when they're on the porch in front of the fire. And at the game, it's all about Jordan killing it on the field with "Game Time" that hypes up the QB.

Could anything be more perfect than "Lean Into Love"? The leaning thing obv, first... but ALL they lyrics fit them so well. This ship has so much light. And they bring so much light to each other. And this song beautifully details what they've been through and how they feel about each other. I can't, so here you go:

The song "playing tricks" has these lines while jordayla is dancing. Kinda speaks to Layla's inner dialogue:

In 5x08 after their fight, from "Lay Low," we have:

With "Jagged Stars," that ily was supposed to be feel disjointed in its normalcy. But the song does celebrate youth and brings them both back to more levity.

And the placement of the cover "O-o-h Child" is perfect for the end of Jordan's ep.

The only song that rivals and overtakes "Lean Into Love" is "Quietly Yours." The opening notes, the lyrics, the romantic overtone, and it's Birdy??

I’m trying not to put my clown shoes on too soon…but I really feel like Hizzie might happen?! I’m like: am I reading too much into things or do the writers actually Get It? Barring the fact that Lizzie literally told Hope she loves her twice, they’ve never /really/ explored Hope’s bisexuality in the show, which Danielle has repeatedly said she’d love to see happen and has pushed for since day one, the only caveat being it’d have to truly fit the storyline. Hope and Lizzie’s relationship is at the heart of this show now.

I know Hope loves Landon, but all they do consistently is lose each other. That seems to be their destiny in my opinion. Not to mention Lizzie’s interactions with Jen and Hope dancing with the woman in the bar has seemed to make their sapphic-ness more overt this season. What’s the reason?! Screw it. I’m pulling up the clown car.

There's just too many moments this season where I'm like.... " are they really doing this??" Cause it really feels like they are??? Or at least that there's some sort of feelings that should def. be addressed. I mean they're both out here just nonstop name dropping the other, the whole fucking sirebond (if they don't address the sirebond, Brett Matthew's I'm in your walls), like yes the sirebond as a concept is incredibly gross and problematic however, we can't just ignore that vampiric sirebonds happen when there's feelings involved so, can we please address that and also have Hope apologize for the way she used the sirebond. Hope screaming, crying, throwing up in the middle of the street, because she was upset that lizzie "betrayed' her. Lizzie being Hope's emotional trigger. Lizzie making a literal blood pact w/ Aurora and wanting to change time FOR HOPE. I'm sorry that's some of the gayest shit I've ever seen girl get up. The fact that they can't defeat Ken if they don't have lizzie on their side, (humanity Hope knowing that already), the way that the title for 4x20 parallels Lizzie asking Hope to stay with her in 4x01. OH, after Lizzie says "I still love you" Hope responds with "then prove it." DJDJAKDKAL. In my honest opinion given how the big bad for this season can't be defeated w/out Hope and Lizzie, how hizzie centric this plot has been it feels like they're going to make them endgame. Take that with a grain of salt cause I did watch 7 seasons of Once Upon A Time hoping for Swan Queen so....

Despite how much development their relationship has gotten this season, it's totally valid and completely understandable to be hesitant. Especially with this being a CW show, their track record with gay characters and ships is amazing!/s Like yes girl give us nothing!! Even if they don't make Hizzie endgame, I hope at the very least we get Jen and Lizzie, cause sapphic Lizzie rights and if they decide to make Handon happen, they don't do it right away. I truly think they need some time apart, to be their own people before dating again.

hey, vital industry leyren anon here. in my last ask it sounded like i disapproved of leyla asking for lauren's money. let me clarify it, i love leyla with all my heart and i see that it was her last resource. i will defend her against every single person who says she is using or manipulating lauren or a hypocrite. also, like you said, it would be a thousand times worse if she had just resigned and let herself be deported because of her pride. after watchinh 4x17 i started feeling more hopeful because i am always here for some angst and i saw the vision of making amends by the means of the very thing that set them apart and that it was supposed to show lauren's growth. i also thought it would be epic to watch lauren and leyla crearly still in love with each other but yearning because lauren thinks the money corrupted their relationship and doesn't want to use leyla's gratitude while leyla is afraid of making it look like she is using lauren's feelings to get what she wants. on the other hand, i've just watched 4x18 and i hate it here lol. they had one interaction and it was literaly all about money. that was exactly my fear, that their relationship would revolver around that. i'm confident that lauren and leyla will end up together but i wish the writers came up with something more creative than financial issues

i know we're down to the last couple of episodes here for s4 but in the defense of the scene in 4x18, it has only been one episode since we saw them agree on the money for the lawyer. it's natural for them to fumble through the initial awkwardness of this situation, especially when they probably didn't interact much in universe before 4x16 due to lauren trying to give leyla space. we saw both lauren and leyla be so concerned about the other person's perceptions and feelings. i think it's safe to say they're likely overanalyzing each other's reactions to try and not trend over any boundaries or feelings.

their one scene in this latest episode set up lauren's main plot which was continually growing and learning how to manage and embrace her negative emotions in a healthy way. ways that would have aided her greatly during 3x14. now unfortunately, we don't get to follow leyla's immediate reaction and processing to the same scene but i don't think that means we'll be totally left in the dark about it. as with most things, i'm sure we'll get insight into her side through her next set of interactions with lauren. in the scene we saw, leyla's smile at lauren's little snarky joke and her relatively relaxed tone while explaining the paper bag, showed that she is getting more comfortable around lauren again. her walls are coming down. but when lauren heard the explanation about the payment, she shut down and pulled back and leyla in turn reacted to that. it came through in the hesitation in her voice asking if lauren wanted to count the money and camera focusing in on the flickering unsure sadness in her face during that beat of silence before she left the table. i know lauren feels like her fears of their relationship becoming purely transactional were coming true in that moment and it's understandable. but i think leyla was open to their conversation continuing beyond the money if lauren had changed topics.

anyways, my long ass way of saying that i think their mutual realization that there is hope for their relationship to recover and that the loan doesn't have to be this massive weight is part of the process to come. trust me, it's nerve wracking for me too to have patience for these writers knowing that there's a potential this could all nose dive off a cliff but i don't think it will. after all leyla has never appeared in more than what? 3? episodes consecutively and now she's in (most likely) 7. there's a reason for that. plus it looks like lauren and casey are back in the ED by 4x20 so that should help boost their opportunity for scenes. of course if i turn out to be terribly, terribly wrong about all this you know i'll eat a slice of humble pie. but in the meantime, nothing to do but wait and see my friend.
