Early Bird vs. The Worm
I got up early this morning and started to check shit off my list. That felt pretty good.
The sad part is the newly revised proposal for a completely new HVAC system for that race track outside San Antonio has gone up another $120K inside of two weeks.
So yeah, the original ‘verbal’ guesstimate of the costs at $750K was wrong. It’s now $1.965M. The best part is we haven’t even gotten to electrical track lighting problems yet. I bet the roof is going over $1M come next week.
So hurry up and don’t act or make any decisions…it will only cost more the longer you wait.
I suppose they could just close down the facility, as I’m certain the ROI would take 10-15 years.
Let’s all hope if they do shut it down, that I get involved in the new construction. Sigh. I’ve spent 3 years as a Construction Manager, and 23 years in a few Architectural offices; and I’ve only been involved with about 3 new buildings.
I’m the King Of Renovation projects.

A new description update on Linkedin from Warner Bros. Senior Global Brand Manager has revealed that Hogwarts Legacy sold 256% more than predicted.
Spotted by Twitter user @bogorad22, the description states, “Achieved 256% to plan sell-thru at launch and exceeded 12M units in sales in first two weeks earning $850M+, secured additional 1.8B impressions through a WBD gaming 1st of its kind Fusion program, and broke all-time Twitch record for most peak concurrent viewers ever for a single player game with 1.3M views.”
Earlier this month, GamesIndustry.biz reported that Hogwarts Legacy was so successful that the Q1 2023 total sales for video games outsold Q1 2022, despite Q1 2022 having games like Elden Ring and Horzion: Forbidden West releases.
It’s been a couple of months since Warner Bros. officially announced the 12m sales figure for Hogwarts Legacy, but we could hear more on its sales in the company’s upcoming 2023 annual meeting of stockholders meeting on May 8.

Speaking to the Observer, Prof John Edmunds of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, who was a member of the Sage committee of advisers to ministers and who has submitted written evidence to the inquiry, said the controversial Eat Out to Help Out scheme – which gave people discounts for eating in restaurants and pubs – was never discussed with scientists.
“If we had [been consulted], I would have been clear what I thought about it,” said Edmunds. “As far as I am concerned, it was a spectacularly stupid idea and an obscene way to spend public money.”
Eat Out to Help Out was launched in August 2020. It allowed diners to claim 50% off more than 160m meals at a cost to the Treasury of about £850m. In the process, it also drove new Covid-19 infections up by between 8 and 17%, according to a study carried out by Thiemo Fetzer, an economist at the University of Warwick, a few weeks later.
[...]
Edmunds said the Sage scientists had no real role in shaping policies across government. “We were asked questions and gave scientific answers but we didn’t know what strategy was being discussed by the government. It was written by them and we saw it the same day that the press saw it.
“They never said: ‘Here’s the strategy, what do you think of it?’ That’s not how it worked and that is why it’s always been so misleading for the government to pretend that it was following science. That’s just nonsense.”

Anyway, once again thinking about the crazy arc Venom movies had.
1st one: we grossed like $850m worldwide off our target audience of teen boys and... where did the people shipping our guy and the symbiote come from? Is it the romance screenwriter?
2nd one: we're bringing back the romance screenwriter. Here's a domestic cooking scene and an arc about trying to figure out a relationship turned kinda codependent. Some of the latter happens at a rave and there's heavy talk of being yourself!
3rd one: yes, she's back again and our posters literally have "till death do they part" as the tagline. We dropped the trailer on 1st Monday of June. XOXO
This is what embracing your audience looks like.

La Peza to Quentar
29km in 7:20 hours walking time, about 850m of elevation and a lot of downhill.
We left around 7:20am this morning knowing it was a long day and there was a chance of rain. Today was another beautiful day and for the main part the walking wasn’t too hard.
After leaving La Peza we were on a gravel road for about 6km before joining a path that ran next to a road. The road was cyclists paradise and there were a few motor bikes as well.
We eventually came to a decision point. Today could be split into two short days, which we weren’t keen to do. We were however keen to head into the town for a coffee, snack and loo stop before heading back onto the Camino. This added about 1km to the day. While we were walking into Toćon we were watching the cyclists and then we saw some Movistar riders with a team car going through their paces - so excited!
After leaving Toćon we had a lovely walk through fields full of wildflowers before getting back onto the Camino which then took us again onto a great gravel road. We seemed to be in a geopark as there were people hiking and we saw a group of about 30-40 women who were on an organised gravel tour. Apparently it started in Granada and is about 700km long.
After a long downhill followed by a long uphill we stopped for lunch at an abandoned mine site. I’m not exactly sure what they mined there but parts of the path looked like they had talcum powder on it.
Not long after lunch we hit the highest point of the whole Mozarabe Way and then a very long descent. While we were having lunch we’d been checking out the dark clouds and thought we might be lucky and it would miss us. As we started the descent we were in brilliant sunshine but could hear thunder all around us. There were spectacular views on the descent but we didn’t take too many photos as we were worried about the weather.
Finally we entered town, still descending (knee not happy) and we started to get a few spots of rain. We found our hotel and by the time we’d checked in and headed back out for a drink the rain was starting to settle in, we were so lucky.
While we were having a drink our fellow pilgrim from last night arrived (his name is maybe Jean Claude and he’s French living in Belgium). He left this morning before us so we were quite shocked that he’d only just arrived. Turns out a group of the female gravel riders had stopped at our turn off and were covering the signs so he went the wrong way. Poor guy added about 7km to an already long day.
After a shower we met maybe Jean Claude for dinner (ridiculous I could pretty much tell you the man’s life history but hazy on his name). We had a pleasant evening and we’re meeting him for breakfast in the morning and starting out together. Seems he’s met no-one on the Camino. It’s a shame, if he’d started a day earlier he would have been in with our crowd. Thankfully he speaks very good English.

I should be happy,
So tomorrow I’m going to be walking funny. Between the deadlifts and goblet squats, my legs, core, and ass are completely wrecked. Tomorrow I will resemble the Tin Man whilst walking.
I’m also finally going to fly again tomorrow. DEN -> ATL -> IAH. Wednesday I have a meeting, Thursday I’ll drive to San Antonio and back to Houston, Friday, I reverse the trip back home.
However, there may be a problem with this General Contractor. We may be punting and starting all over again with somebody else.
So yeah, great.
Looks like there were ground breaking ceremonies in Aurora and Columbus, next week should be Henderson. Plus I might still get involved with the project up Black Hawk.
So yeah, the last 4 months have been very slow and not much going on at all. Pretty soon I might be insanely busy for the next 2 years. That’s what happens when your client decides to invest $850M in new construction.

CinemaCon takeaways...
Disney largely focused on this year, and not much beyond other than some Marvel stuff. A new song from MOANA 2 was previewed along with some footage, some of which that will presumably be - more or less - the first teaser for the movie. Whenever that drops, but the sequel seems to coming along nicely despite some concerns I've had over the production being a possible crunch job. INSIDE OUT 2's first 35min were previewed to high praise, though we do gotta remember that CinemaCon is first and foremost for exhibitors and those in the movie theater business. A chunk of a sequel to an $850m+ grossing movie is obviously going to go over pretty well, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy INSIDE OUT 2. The detail that really got me was the use of different animation styles - similar to the first film's "Abstract Thought" scene - to portray personifications of some of Riley's lost memories. 2D for what is reported to a BLUE'S CLUES-looking preschool show dog character, and a PS2-esque FINAL FANTASY-style character. I love it, the artists just going all out for the sequel and trying all kinds of wacky ideas. That interests me every bit as much as the new emotions and their respective roles in the story do. Disney didn't show anything beyond the December release of MUFASA in terms of animated movies, not a word on any changes to their 2025 slate. Again, being CinemaCon, they were more focused on what they had to offer this year to exhibitors.
Paramount made a big splash, apparently what they showed of TRANSFORMERS ONE was a standout (teaser WHEN?), while THE SMURF MOVIE saw a re-titling that's equally as generic... Just, SMURFS. The two Sony hybrid movies were THE SMURFS, while their all-animated movie was called SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE... Just a simple SMURFS... That's it. I'm still curious as to how the studio contracted to make this one for Paramount will make a neat style that is unique to the one Sony did for LOST VILLAGE. Will it be even more stylized and 2D-like? Or less so? The first of the new 2D AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER movies is called AANG: THE LOST AIRBENDER, and cast members have been revealed, including Dave Bautista as a villain. Some stuff from the new SPONGEBOB movie, subtitled SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS, got out as well. Paramount's theatrical animation is all just big IPs. We know how their heads feel about more original stuff. (Or stuff based on things never before adapted to film, before you come after me.) Otherwise, Paramount's presentation was largely for live-action fare: The ever long-gestating fourth Kelvin STAR TREK movie, an R-rated TMNT movie, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's new movie, Edgar Wright's go at Stephen King's THE RUNNING MAN, a TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE movie, and then some.
Universal showed some of DESPICABLE ME 4 and THE WILD ROBOT, but were absolutely mum about anything beyond that. Only a few 2025 live-action projects, like the FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S movie sequel, got dropped. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri emphasized that original movies remain in that studio's future, despite getting no word on anything coming out in 2025 - between this summer's release of DESPICABLE ME 4 and spring 2026's SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE sequel.
Warner Bros.' presentation was unsurprisingly animation-free, outside of a WAR OF THE ROHIRRIM logo. Their next animated film, and the first under the "Warner Bros. Pictures Animation" moniker - THE CAT IN THE HAT, isn't here until early 2026 at the moment. Ya know, there's a certain hybrid movie that could've made a splash during their presentation that they decided to toss- Yeah, you know what? I won't go there.
While I didn't expect much, given the nature of CinemaCon, we still learned a lot of cool stuff I feel. As for Disney, we'll get juicier things - I reckon - come late summer with D23. Other stuff could debut at Comic-Con or elsewhere.

Trump partnered with mafia-linked Alex Shnaider
For Toronto Tower, Trump partnered with mafia-linked Alex Shnaider, who paid $100M to a Moscow fixer representing Kremlin-backed investors who funneled millions into the project. For financing, they used Firtash & Mogilevich's primary bank.
Tumblr media
In 2007 Trump touted the financing for “our” Toronto project as “a testament to the strength of the Trump name." The $40M investment from his Russian-Canadian partner, Alex Shnaider, came from Kremlin-backed investors. Trump later denied any knowledge about the financing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2010, Alex Shnaider authorized a $100M bribe to a Moscow fixer representing Kremlin-backed investors to facilitate the sale of his Ukraine steel mill for $850M, a deal financed by Russian-state bank VEB [chaired by Putin at the time], proceeds of which flowed to Trump.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alex Shnaider's father-in-law, Boris Birshtein, is a longtime friend and business partner of Sergei Mikhailov, known as Mikhas the leader of Moscow’s most powerful organised crime syndicate: the Solntsevskaya Bratva [linked to Mogilevich]. Shnaider also knows Mikhailov.
Birshtein & Mikhailov co-founded laundering front Seabeco [where Shnaider worked]. In 1996, after Mikhailov's arrest [and a witness shot dead], Belgian police raided Birshtein & Shnaider’s Antwerp houses, prompting Shnaider to move back to Toronto.
Another close associate of Shnaider father-in-law Boris Birshtein is Russian mafia boss Alexander Mashkevich [ran Seabeco’s Moscow office], who, along with his Eurasia Group partners, financed several Trump-Bayrock projects, including Trump Soho.
ICYMI: According the the Sep 11 Commission Report, Alexander Mashkevich & his 2 Kazakh billionaire partners [AKA" the Trio"], are Russian/Israeli Mafia & Mashkevich [who attended Trump's inaugural & private inauguration dinner] is a mafia boss.
Birshtein [father-in-law & business assoc of Trump's Toronto partner Alex Shnaider] is also a friend of Oleg Deripaska, and in 2009, brokered a deal for the CIA to recruit Deripaska to 'rescue' Bob Levinson [missing in Iran] in exchange for a VISA.
Shnaider's mafia-linked father-in-law, Birshtein, claimed “no involvement in Trump Toronto either directly or indirectly,” however, a Cypriot company controlled by the director of Birshtein companies, was listed in 2016 as a Trump Toronto creditor.
In addition to Alex Shnaider's Kremlin-linked funds, financing for Trump's Toronto project came from Austria's Raiffeisen Bank [$243M]. According to diplomatic cables, Russian mafia boss Semion Mogilevich is a partner in Raiffeisen [the primary bank of Dmitry Firtash].

'The two seemingly unstoppable phenoms of summer 2023 are each setting new milestones this weekend as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie through Friday has become the No.1 film of the year globally, overtaking The Super Mario Bros Movie with $1.365B. In the same breath, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer this frame is continuing its incredible run with the Universal title set to pass $850M globally through Sunday. This will see it surpass the filmmaker’s 2010 Inception as his 3rd highest-grossing title ever worldwide...
Oppenheimer is due to surpass Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the No. 3 movie of 2023 globally, coming in behind just Barbie and Super Mario. Of Nolan’s oeuvre, it is only now below The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight.
The ascension of Oppenheimer gives Universal three of the Top 5 films this year globally to date.
Looking at estimates for the full weekend at the international box office, Oppenheimer is expected to earn $49M, lifting the offshore cume to $542M. The Cillian Murphy-starrer is the 4th biggest Hollywood film of 2023 overseas and Nolan’s best in 58 markets.
Through Friday, its offshore gross is $513.9M for $816.9M global. The Top 5 overseas hubs through yesterday are the UK ($69.7M), Germany ($44.6M), France ($38.7M), Australia ($24.8M) and Spain ($20.3M).
Notably, China opened to No. 1 on Wednesday this week and has held that position throughout the following days. The film has a terrific 9.5 score with audiences on Maoyan, and through Saturday is estimated at $23M (not included in the totals above). This is over double Inception at the same point (+144%, Wednesday opener), in line with the Wed-Sat gross of Interstellar (-5%), 20% above the Fri-Sat gross of Tenet, and 23% above the Fri-Sat gross of Dunkirk.
Maoyan over the past few days has upped its final projection for the film’s full run, today landing at roughly $64M. However, caution should prevail as these numbers tend to shift...'

Midi: pain saucisson / fromage /dates
Bilan: 12km, 1500m d+
Bilan Jotunheimen : 91km, 5800m d+ (6 jours de marche)

This is how well Elemental is doing so far in box office, with a 200M budget, earning 400M resulting in a net earning of 200M US Dollars.
It's not amazing, but it's still going, though I doubt it can score much higher than this. It is a minor success but people are talking about the movie and spreading word.
Inside Out 2 will definitely score much higher numbers but whether the movie will be good or not remains to be seen. Inside Out did 850M+ in box office with a 150M budget which is huge. Putting a lot of faith into this one

Telemark, mon amour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
