TK doesn’t say anything when he reaches Carlos. All this morning, they haven’t spoken much. Carlos has barely managed to grunt at him like a moody teenager. Every so often TK will ask if he needs anything and Carlos will shake his heavy head, his whole body like a wilted tulip. But now, Carlos does need something, and TK doesn’t have to ask. He just does it. At the press of TK’s hand to his shoulder, Carlos turns to face him. TK is beautiful in this halfway state – he’s got his dress pants on and a white vest to wear beneath his shirt. It’s warm today so he’s letting his skin breathe while he can. Carlos has thought before that TK is his very most attractive when he’s still getting ready to go out, when he hasn’t neatened himself up yet so his hair is still mussed. He looks all soft instead of sharp. The thought fills Carlos’ head so pleasantly that for three seconds the wasps’ nest that is his stupid brain is replaced with a red flower growing from a crack in a pavement. Then he focuses – makes the mistake of looking into TK’s eyes, how sad he is. Crestfallen. Carlos knows it’s killing TK to see him like this. He knows he loved Gabriel and is grieving too, and feels helpless even though there’s nothing more he could possibly do than this: He is knotting Carlos’ tie for him with all the gentleness of a skilled paramedic, as if by doing up the tie, he’s performing some sort of medical treatment in the field. — Rhythms, Chapter 12: Carlos Reyes Will Be Okay

so i was reading a fic that brought up this one case from early on in lone star that i completely forgot about but the parallels to buck is absolutely insane to me.

there’s a case on season one of 911LS where a house collapses in a tornado and the father makes it out but the team has to go rescue the two kids. the father refuses medical help until his kids are safe, but by then it’s too late. he lasts just long enough to see his kids get out alive and well before he succumbs to internal bleeding and dies.

i had completely forgotten about this until just now but the parallels to buck in the tsunami are making my heart hurt so bad. he tried so hard all day to find chris and keep him safe, ignoring his own injuries despite being on blood thinners. it isn’t until he sees chris safe and reunited with eddie that he lets himself feel the exhaustion and pain and he collapses right then.

anyway there are an infinite number of connections i could make with this but i’m already sad so

1. Ooh this is a hard one!! I find so many parallels between SC & 911LS that I shall cheat and add an aspect from those two to RWRB. SC and 911LS have the benefit of multiple seasons to build backstory and motivations for the characters that strengthen my understanding and affection for them, while many of Alex and Henry’s truths must be taken at face value. If given one chance, I’d add rationale for why Henry fell so in love with Alex.

2. In a universe smash I’d put a Rose Apothecary stand at the Austin Farmers Market for David & Patrick to supply several things in the Tarloft. I’ve thought up so many fun little details brainstorming my answer, thank you for this ask!

3. Ugh, I want them back and will take any Tarlos we can get in S5. I’m trying not to be greedy AND to have an open mind because S4 took. me. out. Perhaps a small one, that TK wears his wedding ring on a necklace under his uniform.

character you relate to most: hmmm probably carlos?

favourite episode: ough i can never choose just one. i’m going with road kill, saving grace, push, riddle of the sphyx, swipe left, a house divided, kiddos.

hottest take: although the writing was rushed on it the iris and carlos plot does make sense and adds nuance to both of their backstories. also nuance is a good thing!!!! :-)

favourite og character: it’s been a while since i watched but i remember liking chimney and hen.

favourite ship: i fear i can’t not say tarlos here. they’re just !!

most underrated ship: NANCYMARJAN i’ve been cheering for them for so so long. also gonna agree with paul/asha because they’re so cute in the glimpses we get of them!!

one thing you’d love to see: i agree so much with what those who tagged me said. i’d love to see some more parallels to earlier seasons as the show ends to show how full circle they’ve become (in the vein of 3x18). i’d love to also see the gang off-shift more and maybe an emergency they just stumble upon where they have to jump in.

Okay so if we’re comparing this to Bad Call (as we fucking should) can we talk about the fact that the moment both TK and Carlos enter the room where the other is they couldn’t care less about the criminals in the room. The only thing they care about their partner, who has been missing and is hurt and who they need to put their hands on immediately so that they know it’s real, that they’re really safe. Both of them push their way into the room, ignore whatever gun is being brandished, completely ignore their own safety because the person who matters most to them is in danger and they need to get to them.
