Ratchet & Clank 20th Anniversary sees games find their way onto PS Plus. The critically acclaimed Ratchet & Clank series will get a selection of the games landing on PlayStation Plus for their 20th anniversary. Ratchet & Clank (PS3), Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (PS3), Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (PS3), Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked (PS3), Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3) will all make their way on to PlayStation Plus Premium on the 15th of November, 2022. Gears of War to receive a live-action adaptation and adult animated series from Netflix - Netflix once again dips into the pool of video game franchises to bolster their catalogues. Netflix has announced a partnership with The Coalition - the developers of the original Gears of War games - to adapt the game into a live-action feature film followed by an adult animated series. Netflix also noted that there would be potential for additional stories to be set in the Gears universe. (Source)

EA has shelved Project CARS - Another one bites the dust, as EA has decided to cease development and investment of Project CARS. The IP appears to have been sent to the EA vault, as the employees have been moved to other projects. (Source)

Nintendo Company has partnered with DeNA Company to continue developing the Nintendo Account. A joint venture has been established between Nintendo and fellow Japanese company DeNA to expand the relationship that started in 2015 when they were initially brought in to create the core system of the Nintendo Account. Nintendo noted that this joint venture is to strengthen the digitalization of Nintendo's business as well as create new value-added services that will reinforce Nintendo's relationship with consumers. Nintendo's Financial report for Q2 - Following Q2, Nintendo has released a new report which updates investors on hardware and software sales. The Nintendo Switch stands at 114 Million units sold, with Switch games accounting for 917 Million units. The best-selling Switch game is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with 48.41 million units. Followed closely by Animal Crossing: New Horizons with 40.17 million units sold. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold 27.79 million units, with Pokemon Sword/Shield standing at 27.79 million. Nintendo also noted that 51% of all software sales came from the digital storefront rather than physical sales. (Source, Source 2, Source 3)

Sony has partnered with NCSoft for Horizon MMORPG - Sony has selected the South Korean studio best known for Lineage and Guild Wars to develop the new MMORPG set in the Horizon Universe. According to sources, the game is still early in development as the company is still actively hiring for positions such as Senior Game writer. (Source)  

Capcom set to bring Monster Hunter to mobile platforms - TiMi Studio Group and Capcom have partnered together to bring Monster Hunter to mobile platforms. According to the reports, it is set to be an all-original game set in the Monster Hunter universe. (Source)

Pokemon Scarlet has been leaked - The Pokemon Scarlet ROM has leaked online. Gamers have been streaming themselves playing the game, and YouTube videos have gone up featuring spoilers from within the game. This gameplay is being run through an emulator. No Sources are provided.

Nintendo had its Indie World Showcase on the 9th of November, 2022. Bolded games are my games to watch/what I will be picking up.

Venba - Venba is a cooking game about an Indian mother and her family living in 1980s Canada. It will be released in Spring 2023.

Goodbye World - Play through 12 stages of a puzzle platformer while following the two protagonists through 13 chapters of their story. It will be released in November 2022.

Have a Nice Death - Have a Nice Death is a 2D action roguelike where you play as an overworked Death whose employees have run rampant, completely throwing off the balance of souls - and his vacation plans. To restore order, you'll have to grab your trusty scythe and show your employees who's boss. It will be released on the 22nd of March, 2023.

Aka - Find inner peace in a small, open-world game. On these carefully handcrafted islands, you can nap on a giant monster, feed baby dragons, and take care of the fauna and flora... ...but demons from your past might come back to remind you what you want to forget. It will be released on the 15th of December, 2022.

Pepper Grinder - Pepper Grinder is an action-packed 2D adventure blending traditional platforming with an alternate drilling mode that allows you to dive in and out of the earth as a dolphin swims through water. It will be released in 2023.

Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly - Dust off your coffee machine and prepare your warmest smile to meet your customers again in the second episode of the much-loved coffee brewing and heart-to-heart talking simulator, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly. It will be released in Spring 2023.

Oni: Road to be the Mightest Oni - Break your enemies' souls to reclaim your pride. On Kisejima, demon warrior Kuuta and his partner Kazemaru challenge these souls to a trial. All to defeat Momotaro, a human and an evil monster. A tale of sky and wind as they embark upon an island quest. It will be released on the 9th of March, 2023.

Desta: The Memories Between - Relive memories, rediscover friends and repair relationships in this unique turn-based strategy exploration through dreams and regrets from the creators of Monument Valley. It will be released in early 2023.

A Space for the Unbound - A slice-of-life adventure game with beautiful pixel art set in the late 90s rural Indonesia that tells a story about overcoming anxiety, depression, and the relationship between a boy and a girl with supernatural powers. It will be released on the 19th of January, 2023.

Dordogne - Dordogne is a narrative adventure game in which you play as Mimi, a young woman visiting the house of her recently deceased grandmother who left her letters and puzzles to solve. To do so, Mimi will revisit her childhood memories and reconnect with the little girl who marvelled at everything. It will be released in Spring 2023.

Botany Manor - Welcome to Botany Manor, a stately home in 19th-century England. You play as inhabitant Arabella Greene, a retired botanist. Explore your house and gardens, filled with research, to figure out the ideal habitat of forgotten flora. Grow each plant to discover the mysterious qualities they hold. It will be released in 2023.

Once Upon a Jester - Travel the kingdom as Jester with his best friend Sok to improvise theatre shows and perform on stages far and wide. Sing your hearts out, crack jokes and impress audiences to become the stars of the famous Royal Theatrical Spectacle! Available now on Nintendo Switch.

Rouge Legacy 2 - Rogue Legacy 2 is what you'd get if you mashed Rogue Legacy and a sequel together. Every time you die, your children will succeed you, and each child is unique. 50 Years of the Porsche 917 – ‘Colours of Speed’ Exhibition

This year possibly the most prominent racing car in Porsche motor racing history is celebrating its 50th birthday: the Porsche 917. The Porsche Museum is honouring the 50th anniversary of the racing sport icon from 14 May to 15 September 2019 as part of a comprehensive special exhibition entitled “50 Years of the Porsche 917 – Colours of Speed”. A total of 14 exhibits – including ten 917 models alone with a total of 7,490 PS – will be on show.

917- 001 restored to its original 1969 condition The Group 4 sports car, which was developed to secure an overall win at Le Mans 24 hour race and to win the World Championship for Makes, was manufactured in 1969 and was the first of a total of 25 vehicles required for type approval. The Number One marks the start of the unprecedented success story of the 917 racing car, and is therefore the highlight of the special exhibition. For more than a year, museum mechanics, former technicians and engineers from Zuffenhausen and Weissach, the Porsche AG historic archive, as well as partner companies, have worked on restoring this first 917. It is now in exactly the same condition as it was on 12 March 1969, when it was presented to the world at the Geneva Motor Show.

917 short-tail – the Le Mans winners of 1970 and 1971 Two further highlights of the special exhibition are both winning vehicles of the Le Mans 24 hour race from 1970 and 1971. In 1970, Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood drove the 917 KH (short-tail) with start number 23 and in the world-famous red-white Salzburg Design to the first of so far 19 overall wins for Porsche at the circuit on the River Sarthe. The following year, Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep managed to repeat this success. Covering a distance of 5,335 km with an average speed of 222.3 km/h, they set two records that were to remain unbeaten for 39 years.

A detailed look at the fascinating technology of the Porsche 917 Alongside seven other 917 models – including the 917 PA Spyder, which became a test car with 16-cylinder engine, as well as the long-tail and turbo versions – the special exhibition also provides an in-depth insight into its technology. The fine art of the twelve-cylinder engine designed by Hans Mezger is illustrated by numerous small exhibits such as crankshafts, piston and cylinder sleeve sets, camshafts and turbochargers. Glass-fibre components from the restoration phase of the 917- 001 demonstrate the high standard of body construction at the time.

The 911 Turbo shows how racing technology has made its way into series production with components such as the turbocharger and the brake system. With this model, the turbo technology previously used with success in the 917/10 and 917/30 found its way into a Porsche production sports car in 1974. A short time later – for the 1978 model year – the 911 Turbo also benefited from a brake system which had previously been developed for the 917 in a very similar form. The fixed brake callipers were manufactured from light alloy material, just like in the racing car, and had four pistons.

The 917 as an inspiration for Porsche engineers and designers Two further exhibits demonstrate the extent to which the 917 has also remained in the minds of Porsche engineers and designers across the decades. In 1970, a studio model was created on a scale of 1:4, which was originally one of the draft designs during the development of the 917/20 “Pink Pig”. This model was further developed by the team under Anatole Lapine, the Head of Design at the time. They turned it into a visionary future vehicle which even had a computer unit in addition to its streamlined body.

More than 40 years later, the designers once again picked up the theme of the 917 – this time in the form of a concept study from 2013 with the title “917 Living Legend”, which the Porsche Museum is presenting to the public for the first time as part of this special exhibition. This 1:1 model was created in modelling clay for the return of Porsche to the LMP1 elite class of endurance racing, and the objective of further overall wins in Le Mans associated with this. A small team of designers, aerodynamic experts, package specialists, chassis and drive technicians designed this tribute to the legendary 917 with start number 23 in “Salzburg design” in just six months.

The history and technology of the 917 come alive Visitors can experience the “racing car of the century” with a total of six toolboxes: alongside the fascinating technology of the 917, they reflect the racing world of that time, the brand sponsorship, as well as the transfer of technology from the 917 to subsequent Porsche racing and series production vehicles. Interactive media stations enhance the visitors’ experience of the history of the 917 – using multimedia presentations with gripping film scenes from races of the day.

A real racing atmosphere and anniversary book The special exhibition, which probably has the highest horsepower rating of any so far, is rounded off with numerous racing posters and small exhibits. For the 50th anniversary of the 917, the Museum shop is also selling a special range of 917 products, including the anniversary book entitled “Colours of Speed – 50 Jahre Porsche 917” (Colours of Speed – 50 Years of the Porsche 917) published as part of the “Edition Porsche Museum”, along with a barbecue apron designed as a tribute to the 917/20 “Pink Pig”.

Jesse needs you. You must do this for Jesse.

This is what King Harry of Wells repeats to himself as he sails towards the Isle of the Gorgons - a place full of nightmarish creatures whose gaze turns living things to stone.

He has no choice but to go there.  His daughter is being kept captive by his kingdom’s vicious neighbor King Thawne, who intends her to be his third wife.  Harry threatened war against it but they both know that Thawne has the greater army.  He was forced to entreat the foul king instead.

Thawne had laughed and told him the price of his daughter is a Gorgon’s head.  “Bring it to me,” he said, “And you can have your girl back.”

Harry had sent champion after champion to the Isle of the Gorgons, but none returned.  Desperate with scant weeks before the wedding, Harry left his kingdom in the hands of his protesting advisors and went alone to slay a Gorgon himself.

He expects terror, and violence, and death - either the Gorgon will die, or he will.

The seas around the Isle of Gorgons are temperate and finding good harbor is simple.  A detached part of Harry finds this funny - of course it would be easy to navigate to such a deadly place. Armed with a sword and a reflective shield (he’s read the legends), he picks his way through narrow stone pathways that cut deep into the island’s foundation.  

Harry has always been more of a philosopher of science than a warrior.  He regrets this sorely when a poor step sends him tumbling to the bottom of a gorge.  His limbs are battered, his sword and shield clatter far out of reach, and it feels like a god’s particular ill favor when at that very moment he hears a smooth voice behind him.

“Well hello there, stranger.”

Fear surges in his chest, but there is nothing to do but squeeze his eyes shut.

“Back, monster!” Harry shouts, whirling blindly towards the voice.

"Ouch,” says the voice.  “We’ve only just met and you’re already making assumptions.”

“I’ve read of your kind, Gorgon,” replies Harry, “the label is apt.”

“Yeah okay, so my family’s not that great,” allows the Gorgon, “But let me tell you, I am not them.  In fact they’re very ashamed that I exist.”

Still afraid but increasingly befuddled, Harry ventures, “..and why is that?”

“Oh you know, low statue count.  I mostly only petrify people who try to kill me.  Are you trying to kill me?”  There’s a hint of threat in that voice for the first time.

If Harry says yes, he’s dead.  Even if he keeps his eyes closed the Gorgon could tear him to pieces.

“No,” he says.

“Well then,” chirps the voice, suddenly cheery again, “Let’s get those cuts and scrapes seen to.  And in exchange, you tell me about the outside world.  I need new gossip, it’s been years since the last friendly visitor.”

“Uh,” says Harry intelligently.

“Oh, and I’m Cisco,” continues the voice.  “What should I call you?”

“...Harry.” 

Then there’s a warm hand on his elbow, and as the Gorgon - Cisco - leads him away, all Harry can think is, I have failed Jesse.

It turns out that Harry has not failed Jesse. 

Cisco is true to his word, exchanging care for news, and he’s furious to hear about the kidnap of Harry’s daughter.  He concurs immediately that Harry will have to go back to save her.  Harry tries to evade explaining the “bring me a Gorgon’s head” part of the story, but Cisco scoffs, “Please, why else would you be here? I know what’s up.  As long as you don’t try anything you’re safe.  Also don’t run off, my family’s out there somewhere.”

“What do you look like?” Harry blurts.  It’s one of the least absurd things that has been said today.  And he’s a curious man of science, alright?

Cisco is quiet. “I hope you’re not thinking about opening your eyes.”

“No, of course not,” says Harry. “I’m not an idiot.”

“Coming by yourself to the Isle of Gorgons?  Coulda fooled me,” Cisco retorts. “Here,” he continues after a moment, and guides Harry’s hands to touch a warm face.  Harry swallows. Tentatively he explores with his fingertips: smooth cheekbones, a flutter of eyelashes, small rounded ears.  And - thick, soft hair? Not snakes; maybe the legends got that wrong.  He traces over the slope of a nose.  A full mouth.

“Satisfied?” Cisco’s lips move from under Harry’s thumb.

Harry wonders when he’ll stop being dumbfounded.

“Not nearly. You’re all wrong.”

Cisco laughs. “Not monstrous enough?”

“Not hardly.”

“People dehumanize what they fear, Harry.  You’re a king, this can’t be news to you.”

A king.  Right now he’s a powerless king who can’t save his daughter.  Harry drops his hands and turns his head away, suddenly fighting moisture in his closed eyes.

“Whoa, hey,”  Cisco grabs his shoulders, “It’s gonna be okay. We’re gonna save Jesse.”

“We??”

“Yeah.” There’s steely determination in Cisco’s voice now. “Thawne said you had to bring him a Gorgon’s head.  Let’s give him what he wants.”

“But you -”

“He never said it had to be a dead Gorgon’s head.”

And that is how Harry finds himself sailing towards home with some of the most dangerous cargo a ship ever carried.  Cisco is a deadly promise for Thawne, hope for his daughter, and... something else for Harry.  Harry expects they’ll figure that out later.

After the Thawne showdown, Harrisco use strategic blindfolds (for Harry or other people) and opaque masks (for Cisco) to safely be around each other.

Aphrodite totally starts shipping Harrisco after seeing their true "blind love” for each other, and decides to cure Cisco of being involuntarily lethal. Much looking and happy times are had by all.

Porsche Paradise: Rennsport Reunion IV

Starting this Thursday at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is the return of Rennsport.  The Rennsport Reunion VI returns to the rolling hills of Salinas in what will be a full sensory overload of all things Porsche.  It is a living and breathing display of Porsche history for four full days that will by all predictions, rival and surpass anything in the automotive and motorsports world.    We covered the last Rennsport Reunion back in 2015 and were blown away at the size and atmosphere of the event.  We live and breath cars and car culture, but we left the last one in utter silence taking days to process what we witnessed.  It was so much we wrote about it in two separate post here and here.

This time around, Rennsport could be even bigger, if that’s even possible.  This year is also the 70th anniversary of the brand, creating what is sure to be additional motivation to make it an unforgettable weekend.  The theme this year is “Marque of Champions” which will highlight the legends of the brand: championship-winning Porsche race cars, the engineers who designed them and the men who drove them to victories around the world.  Approximately 50 legendary drivers, 500 historic and customer cars, including 350 cars in competition, and the full Porsche Factory racing team will be in attendance. As a highlight, the original 356 “No. 1” Roadster will be on display, giving all Porsche enthusiasts a look at the car whose shape, dynamic design, and lightweight construction has inspired all Porsche sports cars. 

This year will also feature a historic line up of Porsche drivers.  Hurley Haywood, the most successful American endurance driver ever; Brian Redman, co-creator of Porsche Rennsport Reunion and racing driver extraordinaire, Vic Elford, who is celebrating the 50th anniversary of his legendary 1968 season, Norbert Singer, lead engineer known as the father of the Porsche 962 as well as the man behind the Carrera GT V10 engine; and Jacky Ickx, six-time Le Mans winner.  Overall, there will be 50-plus legendary drivers on hand.

Twelve current Factory Drivers will also be at the Monterey track, including Patrick Long, Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans GTE Pro winning trio of Kévin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and Michael Christensen. 

Porsche will also demonstrate something unexpected, Tractors.  Porsche manufactured tractors until 1963 in partnership with industrial firm Mannesman, and on Saturday and Sunday two Porsche tractors will take to the track, Le Mans style as drivers will run to their tractors and start the engines in a race over the first five corners of the track.  The race is expected to take 15 minutes.
