After a few moments, Alex rests one hand on the lower part of Henry’s belly, where he’s the softest, and leans over to grab another spoonful of mousse. “You look like the most pampered, spoiled, overfed little prince right now,” he says in a low voice as the bite of rich dessert disappears down Henry’s pretty throat.

“Here, you dropped this.” Alex’s iPod, suddenly pinker than anything in the world had a real right to be, is being handed to him. Alex looks up finally and his stomach does a flip as Henry’s eyes, as blue as any ocean he’s ever seen, lock with his. Now that he’s up close, he can see the remnants of yesterday’s eyeliner still smudged around Henry’s eyes, and he wants to know why and how and when and where he’s worn it. He wants to sit next to him and watch him put it on. He wants to watch Henry squeeze into those jeans that are really too tight to be allowed, really too tight to be anything more than a major tease, and he wants to…oh, he has to stop thinking right fucking now because things are going to get even more awkward if he doesn’t. “Thanks,” Alex says quietly, trying to not think about the feeling of Henry’s fingers against his as he takes the iPod. They’re soft and gentle, and all he can imagine is the delicate way they must hold an eyeliner pencil. “I like that song,” Henry says, and Alex can’t handle the way the words come out of his mouth, the way they fall from his lips in the lightest, most dignified accent, like the gentle flapping of a bird’s wing. “What?” Alex blurts stupidly, the word falling from his lips with a thud and rolling down the sidewalk like a giant turd. Christ, he’s an idiot.

Alex tells him the things he’s never told anyone, and Henry places a hand on his knee while he talks. He is quiet and still and holds Alex’s words with so much reverence and care. In return, Henry tells him the things he’s most afraid of, the things that have hurt him the most. He stares Alex in the eyes and gives him pieces of himself that he has never given to anyone.

rwrb thoughts from someone who hasn't read the book (yet)

The good/general thoughts:

pleasantly surprised by the acting! which I know sounds mean, but listen, I saw these guys in other things and I wasn't suuuper into them, so it was a nice surprise lol

THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE TWO again, pleasantly surprised by that lol they played off each other SO well

10/10 soundtrack, it definitely took inspiration from older rom-coms and I loved it <3

PS I really liked all the side characters! I wish we'd gotten to spend a little more time with some of them, but everyone was pretty great <3 also, all the women were awesome, and I am very gay and very in love <3

Ok, I really, REALLY liked how they showed the two of them texting each other, and the whole editing around it. It was pretty cute

I was living for all the latine songs at the new year's party, that was a nice touch

Sooo, as I said, I haven't read the book yet, but I've seen some posts about it, and I think after watching the film I've realized that it's biggest flaw is that it's that - a film. It's a great film, don't get me wrong! And it's pretty obvious I really liked it. But damn, I'm a firm believer that book adaptations only work as series. They don't have to be super long or anything, but there is just no way to fit everything in a book in a two hour film. And yeah, when you're adapting something you have to make some changes, but Idk, it's kind of a shame that you lose so much (and even without reading the book, I can tell there's a lot of stuff missing). In any case, I can't talk too much about it until I read the book, but yeah 🤷‍♀️ It does seem like they did a good job, though - like, it genuinely can stand on its own really well, but I guess I'll have to find out for myself

regemption is the story ive been working on for several years (it turns 5 this june, which is scary to think about!) using a bastardised aesthetisised pop culture interpretation of christian mythology to talk about a lot of things, like morality and the concept of purity. i want to make it a webcomic some day, and it will be split into 5 "books", and an intermission story spread throughout

book 1: current title "heart and soul": follows jonah calinao, a 23 y/o depressed deadbeat who suffers a heart attack and goes to hell. somehow, they bounce back, because modern medicine is amazing, but this is the first time a human has ever seen the stony deep before being revived. satan (mostly referred to as "boss") sends one of her lackeys to "take care of them" and bring them back and thus maintain the natural order. she picks jade (representative of envy, middle of the road when it comes to sinners) who, upon seeing earth for the first time, isnt exactly that keen on going back. so jade makes a deal with jonah: she wont kill them if they at least TRY and get their shit together. which is a pretty cushy deal, all things considered! except jades situationship from hell (in the most literal context) isnt happy that her best-friend-slash-longtime-crush is mingling with the humans. especially when zircon decides that jade and jonah have gotten pretty close 🤔

book 2: "blood and bone": follows isaac bonner, a 25 y/o rich kid dissatisfied with life. when his on-again-off-again (mostly off) girlfriend dies, he considers ending it all, but is interrupted by what he considers divine intervention. it is, of course, from the other place. bloodstone convinces him that killing himself would be such a waste, he should just hand over his soul instead, and let someone with a will to go on take the wheel. initially unconvinced, she shows him all of her plans, why shes on earth and what she plans to do, and it might just be the adrenaline rush he needs to keep on living

book 3: "hope and pray": follows mary santoro, 24 y/o, jonahs ex-roommate (roommate through the first half of book 1. dont worry about it), nicest person youll ever meet. shes always had a passion for music, but passion rarely pays the bills, which she has a lot of. during one of her many dayjobs, she meets a few very odd individuals who are, for some reason, adamant that she has to join their band. even though its not the type of music she likes, they wear her down, and she agrees to at least check em out, but she soon realises that theyre not human, but they need her help. and one thing about mary is she can never turn someone down, no matter how much she wants to

book 4: "flesh and blood": follows jacob bonner (isaacs younger brother) and his best friend levi abraham as they uncover just what isaac had gotten up to the past few months. and why their cellar is suddenly locked up tight, with no key in sight. or why jacob frequently wakes up to screaming, only sometimes his own. or why their "new friend" looks so familiar, and whether levis right not to trust her

book 5: "survive and thrive": everything comes together. the culmination of the previous four books, with an epilogue to deal with anything that wasnt tied up in a neat little bow

intermissions: follow ruby and zebra jasper as they seek violent, glittery revenge on the one who wronged them, aided by pyrite, who jasper just cant seem to convince ruby is bad news

alexandrite is a minor character in book 1 (even though demons dont have families the way we do, alex and jade consider themselves as close to sisters as they can get), a supporting character in book 2, and should be a major character in book 5.

so I'd love to hear more of your thoughts about Timebomb? 👉👈 for me it's one of those songs which, at first listen, I was sort of indifferent about, and lord knows why lol because the more I listen to it, the better it gets, and it's probably in my top 5 of BC songs. My favourite part is everyone’s favourite part (Me and my boy Alex on the radio ('my boy'!!! 😭💞😭💕😭💕😭💓😭💞💕 (if this isn't y'all's favourite part I'm sorry but you're wrong <3))). I also love Joel's brief falsetto in this one as well lol, and the lyrics are fucking chef's kiss 👌 Honorary mention to the drill sound at the I don't give a I don't give a *** part in the 1st verse

welcome to an episode of Bec yells about songs (because I suck with music terminology and theory, I just love music lol)

first of all the small blirp sound at the beginning (which then comes back later) is so clearly Aleksi's trademark and he brought it to Blind Channel's other discography as well (like the Dark Side intro which then repeats later in the background). And right after that we get to Niko's heavy metal growl voice which I absolutely love and he uses it a lot in Timebomb, and we also get drowned by a wall of guitars and bass and drums even though we do get some breaks for breathing, but the heavy metal fan in me just loves this

the drop just before I’m showing off - we get so many big drops and small drops during this song I'm not even counting them, but they make the structure of the song so interesting and intense even if it's the basic ABABCA I think?? Didn't pay that much attention but anyways I love the beat in the mommy, I tried life sorry I wasn't good at it bit and how Niko sways his hips during the live performance to keep up to it <3

and like you said the lyrics are so good, especially more than just alive even if it kills me is just brilliant and beautiful and I know many BC fans who have it as a tattoo and I kinda want it too

Boggie Roommate Stuffy is the fic that refused to write itself. Like I kid you not, this one shot is over a year and a half old and it's only like 1.1k still. But it's basically a And Then They Were Roommates setup for Bobby and Reggie, where their first introduction to each other was Reggie throwing one of those massive, body pillow sized stuffed animals into their new dorm room and almost bowling Bobby over with it by accident.

If I ever manage to finish the stupid thing, it'll consist of some MeetCute, a healthy serving of Make Reggie A Molina 2K Always, Bobby being angsty before meeting his new roommate, and a bit of flirting just for kicks. Bobby grabs the pile of shirts he’s slid onto hangers and crosses the obstacle course of his own making to the nearest closet. There are two of them in the small room, one closer to each bed, so Bobby takes the closer one to his selected bed, opens it, and places the hangers on the rod. He just has to keep moving. Give himself time to adapt to the new environment. He doesn’t need his parents anymore. Well, for anything other than the money they are paying for his tuition. Hey, rich, absentee parents have to be good for something, don’t they? He continues hanging up clothes and tries to focus on the positives of his situation. He’s not stuck in that big, empty house anymore. Hopefully his roommate will be interesting, so he’ll have someone to talk to when he wants. And the classes he’s signed up for this quarter sound interesting, though the bio class will probably be hard. Maybe him being away will mean his parents actually notice his absence and call every once in a while. Moving for school is a good thing. It just sucks that he has to do it by himself. Just as he finishes hanging up his clothes in the closet, he hears the sound of someone fumbling with the lock on the door. He turns around just as it swings open and in comes… a giant teddy bear?

Okay! And then we got the Jem and the Holograms AU, which is both my beloved and makes me want to scream. As you may have noticed, I'm not the best at committing to long writing projects, and the Jem and the Holograms AU is uh... certainly a long one. The doc is currently around 10k, consisting of just over the first 2 chapters and a bunch of notes.

But plot wise, it follows the basic plot of the Jem and the Holograms movie from 2015. Julie records a song on a whim and one of her siblings (Luke, her adopted brother, in this case) uploads it and it goes viral. From there, Julie, Luke, Alex, and Reggie (all siblings in this one via a combination of fostering and adoption) get swept up into a whole adventure of being anonymously famous, pulled apart by the head of the record company (Caleb Covington, obviously), while also trying to solve a puzzle Rose left behind before she died.

Tis also a JuBobby fic cause I love them! Bobby is their 'handler' when they get to LA. He and Julie butt heads a LOT at first cause he's pretty short and negative and she wants to believe in the dream. But as time goes on, they become friends and maybeeee start to like each other in a more romantic way as well. Cause why not! Though Bobby may have his own line of family drama that they'll get tangled up in too...

Here's a snippet of when Caleb first shows up!

Stilted conversation greeted her as she entered the living room behind her brothers. The first person she noticed was a tall, dark skinned man standing beside the front door. He had on one of those fitted leather jackets that Reggie had always wanted. A pair of tinted sunglasses hid his eyes. His crossed arms and firm stance told Julie he was probably some kind of security personnel. Though she wasn’t sure why security would be at her house, it wasn’t like anyone other than HGC Records knew who she was. “Ah, you must be Julie Molina,” a new voice said, pulling Julie’s attention to the center of the room. Oh. That was why there was security. Caleb Covington was tall, with dark hair just starting to show some traces of grey. His wide smile felt both welcoming and terrifying, at least to Julie. The dark purple suit jacket and black button up seemed like safer places to look. “Or I suppose I should call you Dahlia,” Caleb continued, chuckling. “Our Dahlia, the new star about to blow the world away.” He held out a hand to Julie and she shook it hesitantly. “Hi, um, Julie is fine,” she managed to say.

I have so much love in my heart for this fic but it's so complicated and long! I wish I had all the writing spoons I had mid covid to work on it, but I just don't have the time these days. Someday though. I hope.

🧡 Who is your OC’s favourite person? Why is this person the top of their list and have they actually met them (an idol or rolemodel or celeb can be someone’s favourite after all!).

Honestly oasis and casarin become his favorite people. He sees a lot of himself in Oasis but also potential of what his life could be like, and she'll drag him into it as long as it sounds fun. Casarin is like a big brother to him, mokubat and zumi are great and all but they can't both push and protect him like casarin can. He loves his vazuvyn family but these two have this nerve about living that the vazuvyr cannot afford to have and freedom they cant give him.

⭐ What is your OC afraid of? Any crippling phobias or some such? How do they act when scared and what helps them calm down? Does anyone ever find your OC scary? Why?

People. Unpredictable at best. Downright cruel at worst. Cant trust them. Dont even look at him or his shoes. When he catches someone staring at him he pretends to have not noticed and tries to discreetly hide himself. He is bad at this. Its typically not out of fear as much as, well... those shoes. When he's with zumi or susarikas their cover is that they're his magic creatures of some kind and thats intimidating, that he's such a strong mage to have control over a creature like that. But on his own? Nah. The shoes.

CASARIN

💛 In general, how in control of their emotions is your OC? Do they have a good hold on them or do their emotions control them, not the other way around? What do you think is the reason behind this and is your OC ever concerned about their lack of or good control?

My man is controlled by whatever his hopeless romantic dick is thinking in that moment. The only control he has on his emotions is when anxiety is overriding them all and keeping him internally spinning in circles. He didnt used to be so bad until his family was taken away and he gets better post-sf. His grip is weak from the stress and exhaustion of it all. My man just needs a warm saucer of milk and a comfy blanket. Thats literally the fix for like 80% of his problems. Some stability. Bed with the window open and we're not worried about it who said that.

🥝 What does a bad mental health day look like for your OC? Walk us through it with them. What kind of things can help them out of this slump and what kinds of things comfort them when they start to feel like this?

Wake up even later than normal. Breakfast is tea with what has to be a solid 1/4th cup of sugar. Neither changes clothes or bathes in any way. Whatever his other meals are like are up to god, who is not his biggest fan. Drags himself through whatever he has to but gets it done, typical cranky ass the entire time. Smokes and might drink before sleeping. If its a manic bad day its the same, excepting the dragging is replaced with the zoomies, getting himself hurt at least once, and angry screaming (cranky manic representation my beloved) and he is drinking way more to try to get himself to sleep. Oasis leaves him alone but keeps an eye on him, cant get him to listen anyway, then takes over being the adult since thats all she can do. the only thing that mellows him out is being around hydrel it seems and we dont have him on tap. Finds the words to lift him up and makes him melt in those arms... if he can catch him anyway.

HYDREL

📙 What kind of subjects (of conversation, of discussion, in school or whatever) does your OC find interesting or engaging or that they can talk for hours about? What kind of stuff do they just find fun?

My man loves his airships. What else can i say. Outside that he loves history and other learning about other cultures. They tried to feed him anti vazuvyn propaganda by telling him true but unfavorably framed things and he said "whoa! what fascinating way to live. tell me more!" and now he's overstepping boundaries with latikam about it. He has a full education including Deac'Lulne history, which im sure wont be useful to us. Anyway he also enjoys cooking and baking, he was always spending time in the kitchen with the women of the house as a child and helping them. But his skills are basic since when he came back from war they've been keeping him out of there, want him to have other interests you see, outside the house, wont find relationships cooped up in the kitchen after all, thats what it is.

❌ What kind of things would end any relationship for them? Is there a history behind why these things bother them? Could they ever take someone back despite this? If so or if not, why?

Unfortunately hydrel is way too forgiving and cannot cut people out of his life when he should and just lets resentment build up ha ha. The thing that always starts the crack is like, when someone controls or ignores his decision and agency. When someone says idk something like "we just want to help" when he didnt ask for it. Or when "its just weird for you to be out so late ha ha come back now" even though you're fine just hanging out and its not like you have some responsibility in the morning anyway. stuff like that, hypothetically of course. Luckily he's never been in those kinds of situations. :)

😊 What can make your OC smile even when they’re feeling down? What cheers them up and makes everything feel better for them? Is your OC genrally a happy person and do they enjoy making others smile? What about your OC makes others happy?

Just a good laugh honestly. "Joy shared is a joy doubled, sorrow shared is a sorrow halved" was something her parents always used to say and its something both her and casarin always come back to. Granted she's not soft about it. Aggressive positivity is her toxic trait, "maybe everything will work out and be ok, ever think of that idiot" and people love her for it. I love her for it, and so do you, its not a choice.

🍏 Does your OC have any triggers? What is the history behind these triggers and are they related to any disorders or mental illnesses? In what ways does your OC react to being triggered?

Dont bring up her parents. Only casarin is allowed to do that, he was the only one still around to know what they were like. What would you know. The demeanor change is day and night, usual little baked bean addict imp sudden sounds and acts a lot more like casarin or goes quiet. Forced maturity can only get you so far.

God I go back and forth about how good vazuvyn memory is. But he certainly remembers the first time he got fucked. Its notable since he was in his 20s (extremely young for a vazuvyr) when it happened. Considering his childhood was 400-600 years ago depending on which notes you look at anything he had is long gone. Be it from time or from the occupation.

🎀 Do they wear a specific accessory with a special meaning behind it? What is their usual fashion sense like? What do they wear when they want to be comfortable and what do they wear when they’re going to a fancy party? Or do they just not care?

Latikam for the most part wears whatever Mokubat hands him. He knows he what colors he looks good in and loves whatever the fuck his idiot son decided to make for him. Though there isnt much meaning behind any specific piece it is worth noting his jacket is extremely similar to the one Kotimach used to wear before he went missing, however Mokubat was too young to have remembered this, he simply made it traditionally and in his favorite colors.

My coworker ran down the hall to make sure I was okay. I was, or maybe I’m not. Alex North has changed the game for me. To this day, his works are the only ones to have me so afraid to leave my bed in the night because of how unsettled I was. Alex North has an uncanny ability to never let a reader settle. It’s like he offers you a seat but you just know if you sit down, you’ll end up sitting on nails. The sensation of not feeling settled at a hotel or an Air BnB is similar. Nothing’s wrong but something isn’t right . North’s works have an air of supernatural to them, an essence– not enough to confirm or deny the potential mysticality, but rather, just enough to make you tilt your head and consider– to unnerve you. When a book has you gasping 14% through, when Alex North has you gasping 14% through the book, grab your life-alert, because you know it’s going down. You know the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie? Well, when Alex North gives you information, details, or passing comments, you pin them to the red string board. It’s a very cluttered board, but eventually, with a single pull, a single new piece of information, it all falls into place. Alan Hobbes, beloved professor and philanthropist is found dead in his manor after relieving all of his staff. It appears that he knew he would die. This single event brings about 2 mysteries– first, who killed Alan Hobbes (and why), and second, where is Chris Shaw? The beginning of this novel can be confusing, as there are so many characters, POVs, and even time jumps that it seems hard to keep track of everything. However, the red string spider web of this novel is worth reading. I’m so excited to read this again on release day. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💀💀💀/5

The traits Sarang is physically and romantically attracted to don’t always coincide. She might find a certain set of personality traits attractive in theory, but not anywhere beyond a kiss smacked on a pair of lips, or entertained in a night of passion.

She does find Hyuk attractive, for example (>:3), he’s tall and broad-shoulder; his standoffish nature, his sharp tongue, his general distaste towards mincing his words, it’s attractive in a physical sense, she likes the idea of pushing him to see how much he’ll take before things get serious, she likes watching him squirm a little, and she does wonder what he might be like in bed. But she’s not interested in him beyond that (at least… so far, from what she knows about him).

Romantically speaking, she’s not big on the unapproachable, she’s not into the bad boy, the cold shoulder archetype, she’s not big on the Jason Dean or the Wolverine, the antihero. She’d be more interested in, say, someone like Caradoc or Lexine, who try to be good wherever they go. I’m mentioning them both (COUSINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE--!) because it’s not about Caradoc’s more chipper nature in contrast to Hyuk or Lexine’s gentleness, it’s the goodness they both exude. She wouldn’t see it as purity, but it is an attempt to remain good, it is an attempt to remain kind, and, also, they actually have a tendency to crack a smile every now and then (this is Hyuk slander and I should be ashamed). But Caradoc isn’t exactly her type, physically speaking? He’s got the height and the smile, but he’s relatively boyish (CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG PLS), he’s cute to her, you know? Domenic is perhaps the best example of what Sarang finds attractive both physically/aesthetically/for fun, and in a romantic context. Gentleness and the value for goodness, someone who sees being kind and giving something back to the world as something worth their time. Someone who does also exude calmness, though, and a sense of being established in their self, facing the world without turning other’s smiles upside down. He’s also tall and light-haired, has nice hands (I don’t know if he does for sure, Sarang seems to be convinced he does-) and his glasses icons are sexy as hell.

💔 What was my muse’s first heartbreak? Sarang’s first heartbreak is her current heartbreak, her canon love interest Leif. He’s only half-included in her canon on mythvoiced as a love interest, because binding her this way would potentially leave her less open for forging romantic connections outside of him, I’m not someone who can’t have muses who aren’t available for romantic shipping, I have plenty of aromantic muses or muses who are so difficult to romantically ship with that it’s almost as if they aren’t shippable at all in this context (Yihwa, for one), but for Sarang, I tend to separate her as she’s featured on mythvoiced from her in her canon as I’m developing her ‘offline’ if you will, I’d like to explore her into directions she wouldn’t have opportunity to offline, and as such, he’s only potentially featured as a love interest, but mostly ceases to exist as such in given contexts.

BUT I do think he would generally count as a first heartbreak. Joseon Sarang was old enough to be presented to the public as a yangban woman looking for a husband, she probably should have already been settled actually, but truth is, her family wasn’t big on opening up to other families, in this context as well? She truly spent basically all her life until she ‘died’ within her room. Then loads of shit happened that didn’t really leave much room for romance and then BOOM Leif.

Depends entirely on the circumstances :333 An ideal date in a scenario in which the date is meant to further her in some endeavour or the other would be a date that is suitable for the occasion, for the task, a date that is appealing to the given person involved so that they remain involved for as long Sarang needs them to be, and a date that allows her quick ‘escape’, if you will.

A date that isn’t too troublesome, in this context, would be ideal.

But in a context of actual, genuine romance, where she’s going on a date because she wants to, I think anything that is tranquil. She lives quite an active life, stuck somewhere between trapped and on the run, she hardly ever truly rests mentally. So a date, an occasion in which she can be with someone she trusts, someone she likes being with, someone she simply likes in general, she’d like it to balance the rest of her life out.
