My take on Shishido's beta design as described by Yokoyama in the behind-the-scenes video from last week!

#yakuza #like a dragon #like a dragon gaiden #rgg #ryu ga gotoku #kosei shishido #shishido kosei #my art #original #emphasis on My Take because yokoyama was gesturing more than verbally describing what it looked like but #from what i can tell it had raglan sleeves like this which ended at the elbows #the idea was scrapped because Who The Fuck Would Make A Puffer Like This #but it lives on in my heart o7 #also the jacket was almost certainly on a children's jacket in versace's barocco line so i wanted to keep the vibe #he's not actually supposed to be zipped-up because yokoyama and mb talk about his necklace at length BUT:#1. you can see the raglan much more clearly this way #2. yokoyama emphasized how bunched-up and bulky the old jacket was #3. ehh to put it simply shishido himself is a trigger for me at this point so i needed to minimize how much i studied his face #whenever i finish this i'll probably add his bracelet because there was a lot of discussion about the material of his jewelry #all of that aside. i'm happy this was my final piece of the year :) happy new year everyone

As a kid, I had a hacked copy of Spyro 3, and one of the anti-piracy features of that game was that it would randomly change your language and hide the option to change it back. You could change it back, but it was difficult and not really worth it, so I played the majority of the game alternating between French and Spanish. I actually ended up learning a decent number of words that way.

Now 20 years later I'm trying to learn Spanish properly with my partner, and we intentionally changed the language on the reignited trilogy to practice. Funny how things come full circle.

#it was very hard for me to find any drawings from the beggining of the year (first 3 months had bearly anything)#seems like I didn't draw much at that time #but I can expect it's because of the cat fighting with the dragon redraw thing I was working on :v #I was working on improving my anatomy of humans during this year #and you can see it's better #albeit it's herd to tell #since there isn't too many humans here #but i still improved #and I thing my work with lighting and shadows also improved a bit #so I'm happy with my progress throught 2023 #I hope I can do even better in 2024 #(and have some drawings to show for it lol)#also I find it funny that my last drawing of 2023 was sad furina xd #my post

the idea of fiona being cursed randomly (us as the audience never discovering a reason this unknown witch put a spell on her), has always been so interesting to me. multiple times i've considered diving into writing a backstory, why she was cursed, why this witch decided fiona was destined for true loves kiss. i actually do have a whole load of headcanons and metas stored in the back of my brain, which in actuality would flesh it out and grant a reason why. but i have never put them to paper, nor will i ever, because i kinda love that we don’t know? (yeah it was probably just the writers once again belittling fiona over her male counterparts and deciding their stories were more important… but i ain’t gonna rant about that right now.) it aligns with good vs evil, the stereotypes that these films portray. fiona’s been raised on very straight forward beliefs that put her in that tower in the first place.

we never know what the witch’s motive was: was she plain evil, or was something else planned down the line? either way, far far away proved itself tenfold as a stick to the book kind of kingdom, keeping in line with all stereotypes and never drifting too far from fated paths. in fiona being cursed, harold immediately grew concerned regarding the stray of expectancy, and did everything in his power to get his daughter, his kingdom, and his own happily ever after back on track. rather than seeing how things might play out, he went to a well-known solution and beloved story: a fair maiden locked away in a tower. not actually knowing why the witch cursed fiona, ultimately reinforces the notion that far far away is a very closed minded kingdom (at least where the king is concerned, despite his own backstory). however all this unwillingly places fiona into the role of a princess like no other, the first strike of independence. she steps out of her destined pages, and rewrites her own story. and along that road, changes the entire mindset of those in higher positions in far far away. she gives lesser respected creatures a voice, advocates that being different is okay, and not only beautiful people deserve a happy ending.

i have also loved the idea that it could have been fairy godmother that cursed fiona as a little girl, under disguise as a haggard witch, in order to assure her sons place in far far away when both children grew up. then, she presented herself under a guise of goodwill, promoting this plan of locking fiona away in a tower for her own safety and security, setting the wheels in motion from the beginning. lillian and harold were so desperate for help, and she took that vulnerability for granted. which all this was not difficult given harold’s debt to her; she knew he would listen lest he risk himself and his position. (i genuinely don’t think lillian had much say in all this, but that is a rant for another time!) she waited until fiona was old enough, rather than cursing her as a baby. ‘when i was a little girl a witch cast a spell on me.’ old enough to know how to act and behave as a member of royalty, but still young enough to be moulded and naïve regarding some aspects of the world. that when she returned with charming, she would lack experience and knowledge of how to truly be a princess, given her isolation and separation from her people. thus, charming and godmother could shape her as they pleased, and gain proper reigns of far far away over carefully planned precision.

either way, cursed by fairy godmother or a random witch, fiona is never going to find out, and eventually she becomes okay with that. for a long time all she wanted to know was why. why her. why was she so different to every other princess out there. never knowing why she was cursed really does just strengthen her mindset because while she struggled with it for such a long time, it shaped her into who she is. there’s no grand backstory, she has nothing to truly blame, no one to seek revenge upon; she just needs to deal with it. furthermore, because it was random and seemingly an act of unjustified cruelty, it allowed fiona to break herself free from feeling like a victim, and get out of the tower when she did. it wasn’t destiny that cursed her, it wasn’t set in stone, her life wasn’t meant to exist in a lonely tower. if her parents had said from the beginning that it was supposed to be her story, those three stages (cursed, tower, rescue) then she would have been crafted to live like that. it would have been expected. alas, it wasn’t any kind of fate, so she really just gave a big middle finger to feeling like a victim, and took her story into her own hands!!

#ii. every princess is a beauty / every dragon must be cruel : study.#long post /#also this might seem like a harold hate blog.#(kinda is)#i DO think he loved his family a hell of a lot.#and genuinely thought he was doing what was best for fiona at the time.#but his mindset would have been VERY different if he wasn’t so scared of risking his own position and happy ending.#he’s just a weakling lbr.#also all this really is taking from my own interpretation rather than anything canon with shrek.#i probably shouldn’t need to reinforce that but like.#shrek is NOT canon here. <3 #unless specifically stated.#fiona runs her own world thank u very much!!#but yeah just the curse is so interesting to me!!!#the fact that there is legit no backstory when there could be an amazing one!#fiona being cursed really was the best thing that ever happened to her mkay.#after like...#twenty five years or so she comes to realise that rifp.#the irony in the fact that fiona’s curse was not destiny. it was random. and as such allowed her to break free from the shackles #of those emotional and physical restraints and become who she is.#but if it WAS destiny then she would have remained the dutiful princess because it was apparently who she was supposed to become.#she wouldn’t have questioned it.#i am overthinking this i know but.#i just LOVE that we don’t have a backstory.#i think it makes it way more intriguing.

I just realized what's wrong with the Targaryen wigs in HotD: they don't look like Targaryen hair, they look like they were stolen from the Malfoys. They all share one (1) or at best two wigs in toto and it makes them look like freaking Lucius Malfoy clones

#jokes aside episode 1 was quite good (yes i finally caved in and started watching the fire lizards show)#there were many nice touches that made me go 'mmmmh good stuff.'#1. the juxtaposition of aemma's horrific death in childbirth/the knights killing each other at the tournament #clearly reminiscent of that quote from one of brienne's chapters... heh now i can't fully remember it in english #2. THEY NAME-DROPPED THE SONG OF ICE AND FIRE (which was never even remotely referred to in got)#the whole thing about aegon and the prophecy has been a particularly favorite fan theory of mine for years and i'm happy it's canon #fake lizard monarchs haters gonna hate :))#tho it's VERY bittersweet considering the got finale... like the prince that was promised was *spins roulette*#a stark all along? like randomly? HEYOOOOOOOOOO sorry for the delay friendo!! You gave me a whole bunch of ideas and I couldn't settle until just now, so here goes! Thanks for spoiling me with the ask ^_^ ^_^ hope you're having a fabulous day!! #1 for you! Context, in case it's needed: Set during Awakening, when Zevran departs the Keep to handle the pesky Crow threat. About as jolly as it sounds.

Zevran forces his leaden arm to heft his pack off the ground and place it in the carriage. When he turns back, Rhodri’s bent knees carefully insinuate themselves between his. Hard arms snake around him to guide him to her neck and the smell of salt and sundried linen– and of him now, too, he notes with a bitter smile.

“Dulcis,” she rasps. “Mi Zevran, it's not safe. I’m begging you. Please, please, don’t do this. Or– or take me with you.”

With a gentle shake of his head, he licks the salt off his lips and kisses her cheekbone. “Do you forgive me?”

“There’s nothing to forgive, but–”

“Good.” He summons a decisive chuckle that makes him gag a little. “I shall hold you to that when I get back.”

Zevran leans back and wipes his thumbs under Rhodri’s eyes, and then again as fresh rivulets spite his efforts.

"May I…" he clears his throat before it closes off altogether. "May I ask for a kiss before I, ah… J-just one kiss?"

She surges forward and seals their mouths together, more devouring him than kissing him. Zevran indulges them both until air hunger buckles his knees. They part with her still clinging to him, trembling violently enough to make his teeth chatter.

"Rhodri. Rhodri." He reaches around and eases her fingers off him. "I must. Forgive me, I must."

She gapes at him with pouring eyes, coughing out uneven, gut-punch breaths.

The clever part of him doesn't wait for another round of pleas, and he’s not sure the stupid part could deny her– or him– again. He gives her hands one last, firm squeeze and lets his nerves carry him into the carriage with the Warden escorts.

Spidery fingers reach out and clench white-hard on the doorframe.

“Please,” she chokes. “Noplease–”

“Amore.” He brushes a numb finger over hers quick enough that she can’t snare it in passing. “Please let go.”

She wears his shame on her face as she pulls her hands back and holds them palm-up to him.

Zevran tenses his body to just shy of quivering and considers himself sufficiently steeled. He nods to the coachwoman.

Rhodri feels grief's cold, familiar prelude bleed the gumption out of her when the horses start to haul him away. From her periphery her children and peers pass her by in hops and sprints, shining like vapours in the early morning haze. They smile and skylark with the joy of the knowing dead, waving to her as they flock around the carriage and dance it out of sight.

#Man I had to go with angst. Why though :L #Misery business #I really can't imagine how afraid Zevran would be to go back to the Crows after a year of being away from them and getting used to #a much much better standard of living. And he hasn't even seen them at their worst like he's about to!#topping it off with a healthy dash of being absolutely terrified to let Rhodri out of his sight #(won't say more there for spoilers)#Anyway the good spoiler is they are reunited and FINE. they are FINE DAMN IT #happily/ecstatically/euphorically ever after #btw if you hear a weird tinkling noise that's Rhodri's heart shattering in the background. not me coming up with a new oc after artfight has already started 🤦🤦🤦🤦
