Father of Time Chapter 27: What makes you happy? Does it make others happy, too?
When Deity returned to the Inn later that night, he found his son perched on his bed with a strange instrument in his hands, made out of what were apparently fish bones.  He had never seen an instrument quite like that before, though what remained of his connection to Termina whispered an idea of a memory in his head. Link's unsure fingers would pluck out notes but they were often awkward and sour.
"What is this?"
"Oh! Hey dad, I got a guitar at the Zora hall today! It cost a thousand rupees!  I used to play it with the mask but I bet I could learn it on my own too. I can kinda almost remember notes if I think about it."
"Ah."
"Hey, how'd the rest of your day go?"  The boy set the guitar on the bed, rubbing his fingers to ease the raw spots that had started to form.  Pressing on the strings was more painful with his regular fingers than he expected.
"It was fine. I have settled my business here."
"Can we go look at the tower tomorrow?"
"Certainly."
"Hey, um…" Link paused, grappling with the words he wanted to say. "I thought…you told me you weren't bothered by Termina.  So, um, this morning…and destroying the temple. Uh…"
"I did not realise until we came here that I was bothered. I'm sorry I inadvertently lied to you."
"Oh man, no, dad, I don't think that's a lie really if you didn't know it. I guess I just thought maybe you weren't going to tell me or something."  A knock at the door paused the conversation and Deity walked over to open it.  Anju was there, holding the baby and smiling up at the god.
"Oh, hello!  Kafei and I were wondering if you'd like to join us for dinner tonight? You're still our only customers and we can set up extra seating in the kitchen.  I thought it would be nice!"
Deity glanced over at Link and the boy nodded enthusiastically.  He looked back down at the redhead and inclined his head. "We would be honoured."
"Great!  It's all ready so come on down."
A year ago, if someone had told Link he was going to have dinner with his deity father and two friends from Termina, he would have thought that person was crazy.  It felt a little crazy even still. Everyone treated his father so normally here. Mostly normal; he still got the occasional look due to his height. At dinner, both Anju and Kafei were at ease, even sitting so close, and they involved him in conversations as much as they could. Deity never really understood the desire to fill a space with words but he would answer questions if asked and chuckled at all the correct places in stories.
So it was about as normal of a dinner as Link could remember with his father.  Eating, talking, watching the baby make a horrible mess of itself.  Kafei was scooping out a third helping for Link and he glanced up at the god while setting the bowl down. "Did you need more?"
"I am fine. My thanks."
"For someone your size, I expected you would be the one who ate more but I can see why Link has gotten so tall.  He eats enough for an entire family."
"Mmmmph!"  The boy pointed his chopsticks at the chef with a glare but Kafei only laughed. Deity sighed at his son, wondering how long it would take him to remember his manners.
"Link, do not speak with your mouth full."
"Mrmph mrr."
Anju giggled as she scooped soft rice porridge for the baby. Not much ended up inside the infant but she did not seem concerned.  "So, Deity was it?  Does your height run in the family? Will Link be tall as well?"
"In a manner of speaking, yes. Though I doubt he will be quite as tall."
"Well, that's nice! He seemed like such a small boy back then but you two are so similar, it's no surprise he grew into the height. I bet he'll be taller than Kafei someday!
Link blushed at being the focus of the conversation but at the same time it was nice.  It felt normal in a way he didn't get to experience often and he was glad the couple had invited them to dinner.  A part of him grew sad at the idea of leaving in a couple of days but a bigger part couldn't bear being away from Hyrule forever either.  He'd miss home and Malon and everyone else he'd grown close with.  But Termina wasn't that far away, right?  He could probably come visit!  As long as the tunnel in the forest didn't just disappear someday, he could come and go as he pleased.  Now that he knew this place was just as normal as home, he didn't think he wanted to give it up.
Later that night in bed, he stared up at the ceiling with his hands behind his head, thinking about home and Termina and all the other places he'd seen since freeing his father.  He loved the idea of travelling and seeing new places but he also wanted to do things at home. When spring came, he wanted to start a garden maybe. He wanted to keep working at the ranch. Maybe he could convince Talon that it was safe for Malon to visit. And they had to keep patrolling for all those new monsters showing up. How could he do all that and find time to travel?
He paused for a moment, then exhaled loudly.  He was only thirteen. There was definitely going to be plenty of time to do lots of things.  He bet other kids his age didn't worry about that.  Those thoughts definitely seemed more like the weight of adulthood on him than normal worries. It would be fine.
He'd find a way for sure.
After all, wasn't he the Hero of Time? He'd find a way to do it all.
(Read the rest on AO3!)
so much lovely domestic fluff in this one. Also, you get to see what happened to the Stone Towers after FD was done with them.

Note
why is majora's mask a game about love?
Because every waking moment is devoted to the inevitability of death, and in the face of that inevitability the most pressing thought on many characters' mind is love.
The first example to come to mind is likely Anju and Kafei, who spend the last three days before their impossible wedding fretting to make so that everything is ready for it; maybe it will remind other pairs too - Madame Aroma and mayor Dutour, Honey and Darling, the Deku Scrub in Clock Town who wants a Moon Tear for his wife. The seahorses. The implied romance of Lulu and Mikau.
But I would argue that more than romance it's a game about platonic love first and foremost.
It fits with Link being a child, with him noting (after receiving Anju's letter for Kafei) that he doesn't understand all this grown up stuff, but someday he might. It fits with there being no love interests and it fits with all the examples of platonic love we are shown over and over.
You have the love of a parent for their child. You have Madame Aroma sending you to find her missing son with a mask of his likeness, the Deku King so heartbroken by the disappearance of his daughter that he can't even think straight, the Goron Elder distraught at the news of his child desperately calling for him, Lulu falling into despair after her newborn children are stolen and Mikau giving his life to save them; you have Anju's grandmother and the Deku butler who see their lost sons in every boy they meet. You have Anju's mother, whose love makes her distrust in Kafei and Cremia because they remind her of something that hurt her and that she doesn't want to hurt her daughter - you have Tingle's father, who is ashamed of his son yet cares for him all the same.
You have the opposite too, children's love for their parents: the bomb shop owner, as punkish as he may appear, worried sick for his mother walking around alone at night with valuable good that could get her attacked, and Pamela, who keeps the Gibdos at bay and her half transformed father safe and calm as best as she can.
You have the love between siblings. Between Koume and Kotake, one immediately urging you to help the other as soon as she hears she's in danger. Between the Gorman brothers, who are awful and conniving and still get tears in their eyes seeing the ringmaster's mask because miss their last triplet so much. Between Romani and Cremia, who makes her an adult right before the end of the world so her little sister too can feel fulfilled. (Maybe so that she can have her drunk and unconcious, so she won't feel anything.) Between Sharp and Flat, who even when betrayed and locked in his own grave worked on a melody that would free his brother's soul from the deal he had struck. Between Tatl and Tael - the reason why she teams up with Link in the first place being so that she can get reunited with her more timid brother for whom she worries.
You have the love for a people, a nation, so to speak. Darmani, dying to stop the winter that so threatens his tribe, and captain Viscen, who only wants the townsfolk to evacuate to safety while he himself will very likely have to remain directly beneath the moon.
You have the love for things that might not love back. The astrologist is infatuated with the Moon; the rooster man of Romani Ranch laments only that his dear chickadees won't ever be roosters; the twin dancers and twin jugglers love their jobs, but can get frustrated by them. The barkeep loves you, his favorite costumer who decided to spend their collective last hours with him. Mutoh and the councilmen love their town and remain in the face of imminent destruction. Gorman loves a song sung by a voice he will never hear again and a home he has forever left behind,
Unhappy kinds of loves are the swordsman's excessive faith in himself (which backfires and leaves him terrified in the end) and the postman's devotion to the mail and schedule (which traps him). Maybe even Kamaro's love for his art, which he laments having no one to pass on to.
You have the love for friends, which drives the story - without which there would not be a story.
Because it's Link's love for Navi regardless of the player's opinion of her that sends him on the quest that has him ending up in the Lost Woods, and it's his love for Epona that has him chase down into the hollow tree stump that ends up in his new adventure.
It's the love that Skull Kid feels towards the Giants, and that he feels has been betrayed by the Giants, by their leave and their banishment of him from Termina, that leads to the stagnating sadness and resentment that has him so vulnerable to Majora's influence.
It's Tael's love for Skull Kid that cues him in on how something is not right with him, and it's the Giants' love for Skull Kid that makes them implore Link to save him, and that they repeat for their friend to hear, to know now and forever.
It's love that Ikana lacked - the trust, the camraderie that comes with it - and that led to its downfall. It's love that Majora doesn't seem to recognize or entertain or care for. It's love that the Fierce Deity, as a personification of Termina's collective memory, embodies and unleashes so absolutely violently against its absence and the looming threat of eveything coming to an end.
It's the love that makes up, at least in part, the happiness the Happy Mask Salesman comments Link has brought to the people.
And all of these loves, it's important to note, fail.
They are all fated to fail.
Mostly, by no fault of their own.
After all, if an entire Moon is falling a hug can't do much.
Sometimes you're not strong enough, lucky enough. Sometimes you just feel too much and that keeps you from being able to think or act. Sometimes good intentions lead to bad decisions. Sometimes you're just faced with something you cannot fight back against and win, if you can fight back at all.
Love is powerless against death and forgetfulness.
But that doesn't mean that you can't feel it. That doesn't mean that, when faced with inevitable death, you shouldn't feel it. That doesn't mean that, on the last moment to feel it, you shouldn't allow yourself to feel it.
All over the Apocalypse, people look up at Thanatos inching closer in the sky and run to their loved ones to hold them tight, shield them, let them know of an affection that will have no other time to be told.
Majora's Mask is a game about love.

For this ask, I’m going to have the player as a ghost that’s separate from the glowing light on their chest. They can go back but I wanted them to have their own figure. Anyways-
Imagine Time attending Anju and Kafei wedding. He comes as appropriately dressed as he could be with player next to him. As the wedding goes on, he’s happy to see them married but also reminiscent over all the actions he had to perform for this day. On the other hand, Player is very enthusiastic and awestruck. (They worked hard for this ending so they are certainly going to enjoy it)
As Anju walks to the front, her dress flows with the breeze, showcasing the love and care she put towards the dress. It’s a beautiful day to attend a wedding.
“Link, look how beautiful she looks!”
“Yes, she looks very beautiful in her dress. I’m sure Kafei will become very emotional once he sees her..”
“Oh, everything is perfect. I can’t help but wonder about my own wedding. Do you ever think about that Link?”
Time thinks and envisions his happiest day.
In the Kokiri Forest, everything was decorated nicely. There was fairies flying around with Kokiri waiting patiently for the bride to come out. A clear path was set for the bride to come walking towards Time.
Speaking of him, he was taller and older. He was dressed in a suit that fit quite well, ambient a little tight. Navi was dressed with a bow tie and acted as the priest.
As Time keep pulling at his collar, he couldn’t help but feel a little nervous. Navi kept reassuring him that everything will be fine.
Eventually, everyone stand as the bride comes walking in. Time looks at Player in disbelief. They wore the whitest dress that fit perfectly. A veil covered her face and the dress slight draped on the floor. She walked to the front where she meet Time.
As Navi starting the ceremony, Time couldn’t help but drown the words out as he kept looking at Player.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
Time snaps out of it and blushes. He hesitantly goes to remove the veil with Player moving their head slightly. Once removed, Player smiles tenderly at him as she looks up at him. Time cups her face and kisses her lips.
Cheers were heard as everyone celebrated the newly wed couple. Time carries Player as they walk to his house.
“—ink, Link, LINK!”
He snaps out of his vision as he sees Player’s face a few inches from his. He moves back and covers his red face.
“Hey, are you ok? Everyone is starting to go celebrate the event. You were just standing here looking at nothing.”
“I’m fiNe! You can go first, I’ll make sure to keep up once I’m ready.” His voice slightly cracks as he continues to cover his face. His ears start slightly flapping and his face continues to get redder.
“Alright, I’ll meet you there”, they said apprehensively as they leave.
As they start to float toward the destination, Time removes his hands from his face and thinks again about his wedding. Although it seemed surreal, he hopes that it can become a reality.
Sorry for my poor writing skills 😭 but I wanted to write this. I thought it would be so cute to see!! I can imagine each boy having their own wedding as Player as their bride. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!
POOR WRITING SKILLS?! THIS IS AMAZING I LOVE IT!
Time fantasising about marrying Player just 🥺🥺

What if: The Chain lands in Termina, close to this year's carnival of time. Time doesn't tell them he knows the place and just tells them to have fun before walking off. The guys meet grown up charas from MM and they slowly realise that Time must have been here as a kid (there are some kids that play "wake the giants" that drop the moon hint) They then notice that Time is nowhere in town and search for him (he's visiting some graves)
-When seeing the masks worn in the festival, Wind happily takes the korok mask from Wild, who elects to put on his colorful demon mask for the festivities. This leads to stares and whispers from one woman that the mask is in poor taste, to which a man replies that a boy that young hadn't been alive then, let them play. Look up at the sky, they're safe.
-Hyrule and Sky wander off and find the Great Fairy in North Clock Town, who tells them that she once had a mask for such a festival but gave it to a forest child who helped her and her sisters
-Four and Wars get dragged into the game as the children play, and Four actually draws his ocarina to try and mimic the song the children sing while Wars acts as a giant, getting one hint to that, and another to the moon
-Twilight and Legend take one step into the milk bar, see Romani and Cremia, then Kafei and Anju in their couple's masks, and immediately know. Twi leaves to follow the Old Man, but Legend says to give him space. Twi halfway agrees, merely keeping an eye from a distance- and being visible enough that the others regroup near him, where they put the pieces together

Now that I'm a week in on raising my second little guy, I've found myself drawing a lot of comparisons between when I raised Kafei about 3 years ago (2 years and 11 months, to be precise)
Kafei
He was an exceptionally easy puppy, he did not go in the house save for one time it was pouring and the yard was flooded. He wasn't a huge chewer either, he'd try the legs of my computer chair while he was teething and broke the thumbstick on my pro controller.
I think by the time he was 3 months I let him have full roam of the apartment when he wasn't sleeping, he was that reliable.
He didn't really bite me either and he got along well with Penny pretty much immediately.
That being said he loathed bedtime and it was always a struggle to get him to settle in his crate. He got overtired easy and would hit the witching hour and just go apeshit. He wasn't too food driven so chews, kongs, lick matts did very little. He wanted to play and wanted me to be with him.
I think he wound up sleeping through the night relatively early on? I can't recall, but until he had diarrhea from the giardia medication I think he was sleeping through the night by week 12 or so.
His socialization was hit or miss, it was the pandemic but he started going with me to work and would meet my coworkers often. He allegedly* had giardia and the vet dropped the ball on that, I wasn't informed until 4 weeks later when he was supposed to get his last round of shots so I wound up having to wait until he was nearly 20 weeks to walk him. And then we immediately got run up on by an offleash doberman which shook my confidence.
I also didn't like the puppy classes we wound up going to. It was a lot of rehashing things I knew for the most part and his chance to play with other puppies was limited. They had an odd accidental habit of putting him together with ruder puppies for him to correct or dogs that were so shy they didn't play at all. I think in the six weeks he didn't have a single chance to play with a puppy who matched his energy. I tried their follow up class (puppy....intermediate? Something like that) exactly once and left the class halfway because they were having us practice loose leash walking in a small pen and I wound up going through all the treats I brought (two entire shredded chicken breasts) within the first twenty minutes.
I did really enjoy puppy agility though and to this day I think that course was a lot more helpful for him.
To this day his leash walking is pretty bad and he's hit or miss with strangers and very domineering over male dogs.
I was very 'disinfect the stroller wheels' with him, aside from my office, he went on a socialization trip once to home depot, once to a bougie pet store, and again on a ferry where he was carried. I think he went to a college campus too? I forget if he was already 20+ weeks then or not.
*allegedly in the sense that neither he nor penny and zucchini showed any symptoms, they neglected to tell me until I showed up for his 16 week shots and asked where his 'fresh stool sample' was, and he was not tested again. None of his siblings had it, none of the breeders dogs had it, and he was not given access to any standing water so. Who knows.
Haku
He is quintessential puppy, he'll pee in the house without much thought and I have to be very careful about watching him. He has yet to poop indoors which is a big plus. The breeders warned me Silkens are more difficult to potty train, but I've had a pretty easy time overall.
He is a big chewer, he'll go after cords, furniture, loose wood on the deck, rocks. He doesn't swallow it thankfully, but he will shove anything in his mouth if he thinks he can fit it.
Oddly enough he doesn't care about actual chews too much, he'll chomp on a bully stick for a bit but didn't care much about the benebones or the yak cheese. He liked the carrot I gave him though.
He gets along with the other two dogs, but it becomes a problem when he doesn't accept them saying 'leave me alone'. He pushes buttons and boundaries, and sometimes has to just be removed from the situation. He gets along better outside since the open spaces leaves the other dogs more tolerant. He is very nippy.
He takes to the crate like a champ though. I no longer work from home full time so it's handy to have a puppy who is willing to just sleep while I'm gone. He'll start complaining sometimes when he really has to go, but for the most part he's happy to be alone and sleeping.
I'm planning to be a little less defensive with him, more trips, early neighborhood walks. The 8-16 week period is so important and I don't want to not take full advantage again.
I'm going to puppy socialization meetups instead of classes this time around -- partially because of timing and partially because I just don't feel like I got a lot out of them with Kafei.

Who's your favourite Zelda (character) from the TLoZ games?
Oh, hm, that is a hard question actually... Because there are many amazing characters, but I actually really like the different incarnations of Link? Like, Link is just enough protagonist to have a personality, but also blank enough that you can project onto him and I really like how they walked the tighttrope with him ^^ Hm, when I have to go with favourite characters, let me see if I can find some for each game. Starting with Link's Awakening, because honestly, Zelda 1 to 3 barely had characters. Or shall I count "It's dangerous to go alone" guy? LA -> Always liked Tarin and Marin. I actually like to think that Marin was not actually dreamt up by the windfish but by Link himself. She is said to look exactly like Zelda, but how should the Windfish know about Zelda? It makes so much sense to me ^^ OoT -> Saria and Ruto were favs always ^^ MM -> Oh gosh, which character is NOT to love here?! MM has some of the best cast in all of Zelda. But I think I have to go with Anju and Kafei and their gigantic sidequest and their devotion to each other. That one is so wholesome and so tearjerking at the same time. Will never forget Anju waiting for him while the final hours play. OoT and OoS -> Queen Ambi for OoT hands down! I love Queen Ambi! Ralph is also great ^^ For OoS it is Princess Rosa. She isn't even a princess, she is a pop idol ^^ But she is cute and she is a subrosian and I love that she travels through Labrynna if you link to OoT. Wind Waker -> I like the pirates ^^ And Aryl. But I think I have to go with Tetra and the King of Red Lions. Best incarnations of Zelda and the King ever. TP -> Thelma, the bar woman ^^ She is just amazing. And I really like her cat ^^ Phantom Hourglass -> LINEBECK! We love character development! Spirit Tracks -> Byrne was his name, I think? His theme song is cool, his battle is cool and as with Linebeck, we love some character development ^^ Minish Cap -> I really really like the Zelda incarnation of Minish Cap. Skyward Sword -> Groose! I just am a sucker for character development ^^ A Link Between Worlds -> Gosh, I loved all the sages. But also Ravio and Hilda. The game is full of memorable characters. Breath of the Wild -> The mushroom sisters xD Haha, nope, I think it is clearly Sidon here. TotK -> From the new characters, Rauru and Sonia are amazing! Haha, whoops, here is someone who played all the Zelda games xD

My Strange Cat
My cat slept with me
His thin bones laid at my arm
Sleeping peacefully
Kafei is so strange
He wants pets but will not
Lean into the touch
My cat is depressed
Kafei waits patiently still
We walk on past him

Australia Locations
Sydney (Split up into notable areas)
Bondi- Good food, good shopping (westfeild mall is the place to be to shop), expensive, busy, luxe, Sunday markets are a must, Anito gelato is a must
Newtown- cute, very gay (big community with lots of events for queer people, big safe space), great for thrifting but can definitely get expensive, Café Newtown has a killer taro iced latte, Beantown has really refreshing cute drinks, I used to hook up with a guy who lived there and he was chill
China Town- Good afternoon trip, lots of places to eat and try, flea market (called market city), novelty shopping, spice alley (outside of china town but has great food and same energy, little hidden alley), desserts are a must when visiting (Sweet town is very busy, very fancy, very worth it, make sure you order ahead if you can or time well. Old school kafey is adorable and has Instagramable bingsu (MINIMUM 2 PEEPS))
Darling harbor- very expensive, very touristy, classy, great place to grab a nice dinner or take a walk, Little touristy block ((wax museum, aquarium, zoo and boat tours) if you have extra time and money the zoo and aquarium are okay, there are plenty of better and even cheaper options if you want to experience sydney, as these feel very much like a tourist trap), if you have kids this area is okay for them especially if they have a lot of energy, as you can cross the Pyrmont Bridge which is cute and pretty.
The rocks- great for a small night out and a dinner splurge, if you wanna dress up and experience the beauty of the city I highly recommend going at night on like a girls night, as the area is lit up and has places like The Argyle if you wanna do a bit of high quality clubbing.
Town Hall- if you only have a short time in sydney this would be one my top locations to recommend. The Queen Victoria building has high end to regular shopping with gorgeous architecture to take photos of inside and out. Outside of the building is the real town hall, which if you have a chance to go into you should take it, everything about it is grand and gorgeous. The Westfeild mall here is even better then Bondi in my opinion, I shop here all the time, its fun to explore and has everything around it, if you like taking photos I reccomend the curved glass walkway on the corner of Pitt St mall and King St. The mall is also great if you’re on a budget, as the food court is a reasonable place to get lunch, but there is no shortage of luxury dining around.

Finally some more kaflink in botw au (i need to think of a better name for this fhsjf) i meant post this earlier but i said snzzz
Whenever they go to a new location, where theres people who either knew or had a connection with wild link, they end up having to explain the whole, wild is dead actually and link is one of his past reincarnations (and kafei is his husband) thing, so they end up explaining it to king dorephan, so sidon knows that link Is in a way, also wild link, just from the past, so he ends up telling him about mipha and stuff since she loved link, and sidon is always like i know you never actually met her, but knowing that she had loved apart of you makes me feel like you should know her, and he'll just take link on walks around the domain to talk to him, and kafei Hates it, hes never invited so he just has to Watch as this big hunky fish dude comes and whisks his husband away practically every night that they're staying at the domain, and like, obviously nothing ever happens between them, kafei just hates it and hates sidon fhsjf, his jealousy isn't completely unfounded though, because sidon does end up catching feelings for link, but he keeps it to himself because he knows better than to go after a married man lmao

Re: the Yiga Dudes -
Okay, have some free headcanons to help soothe the pain of the retcon:
1. the camera panned away from Kohga moments before Sooga walked over and thanked him for saving the life of his son, and pledged himself to be Kohga's right hand.
2. Sooga was de-aged by a curse and after he joined the clan, he told this to Kohga. The clan spent a few years working on a cure, which they did achieve, with powerful magic. (Don't look at me like that! This happens in the Zelda universe - go play Majora's Mask or ask the Kafei stans about it)
This is probably all I will say on the matter.

So...I was watching this video called "The Bittersweet Comfort of Majora's Mask" and it just struck me how dark the story really is but how human the characters were written. The story features inevitable death creeping closer in the shape of the moon about to crash into the world and how the residents of Termina react in their final hours. Some things really touched me:
how the bartend of the Milk Bar was hoping he'd see his favorite customer one last time before the world ended (which is you, the player, by the way!),
how the sword instructor hides in the back of his shop hours before the moon falls and screaming that he doesn't want to die,
how Pamela, a little girl, lives on her own protecting her monster-turned father in a locked house surrounded by the undead and comforting him when he reverts to normal,
how the ranch girl Cremia chooses to spend her dwindling time telling stories and plans of the future to her little sister in that she could spent her last moments in peace rather than fear,
how the postman desperately wants to be free of his duties so he too may have the joy of freedom before he passes on,
how Anju waits for Kafei mere hours before the world ends and the two wait together to die in each other's arms,
how the cuccoo trainer regrets not seeing his chicks become full fledged adults before his time is up and that he resigns himself to his fate,
how you, the player, run around Termina helping everyone that you can find peace before death and walk away when it's all over and the moon is destroyed like "I'm glad I could help."
And so on.
You know, this game, although weird in its setting and situations, brings a sense of peace to me. A lot of the emotional stress of what these characters go through is not unfamiliar as I experience similar feelings when the depression gets bad. So, I think I can say that this is one od my favorite games of all time. I think I can also say that it inspires me to help others in whatever way I can. I'm no therapist or anything, but I can still try even if it means being kind. You really don't know the battles people go through.
And as embarrassed as I am to admit, I nearly cried at the end of the video.

NPC - Shelda
Tumblr media
Status:  Alive  Temperament: Stern
Blurb: Anju's Mother and one of the original owners of the Stock Pot Inn.
. . • ☆ . ° .• °☽ ☼ ☾*₊ ° . ☆ • . .
Backstory:
In Shelda's younger years, she married a man named Tortus and had a daughter named Anju. The three ran a cafeteria until Tortus's unexpected passing. In order to make ends meet, Shelda, with the help of her mother in law, converted the cafeteria into what is now known as the Stock Pot Inn. This was done by turning the Cafeteria's guest rooms into the main focus of the business. Despite the Inn's minimal amount of rooms, it has always stayed busy due to the tourism within Clock Town. Unfortunately soon after the Inn became successful, it was evident that Shelda's mother-in-law, who lived alone and had been widowed for many years, was in cognitive decline and became bound to a wheelchair. Shelda, wanting the best for her child's grandmother, moved her into her own room of the inn where both she and Anju tended to her.
During her daughter’s childhood, she became close to the Mayor’s son named Kafei. After a few years, the two became romantically involved, though Shelda never approved of her daughter’s partner. She didn’t like how Anju spent less time at home and more time over at the Dotour residence. Kafei was a sly adventurous boy and she felt he was not a suitable partner for her daughter.
Following Skull kid stealing the Majora’s Mask and beginning the moon's descent upon Termina, Kafei had gone into hiding after being cursed to have the physical appearance of a child. Over the course of several days Anju searched for her partner to no avail. Shelda assumed Kafei was out cheating with Anju’s friend Cremia, but Anju knew in her heart that wasn’t something Kafei would do. Luckily with the help of the Hero of Termina, Kafei was able to finally be reunited with Anju and the two exchanged their wedding masks and vows on the final day of moon fall. the Hero of Termina had stopped the moon falling that night and within the coming morning, Anju and Kafei were married. It was at this point Shelda realized that Kafei was loyal to her daughter and even though they may not always agree, Kafei was now a part of her family.
It wasn’t too long before Shelda had a granddaughter who they named Neoma. Years later and together as a family, the three run the Stock Pot Inn. Shelda offers assistance when she can, but she is bound by a walking cane. Because of this, she gave Anju and Kafei the deed to the Inn.

Text
With each passing moment, the end was growing nearer, and yet, Kafei was still gone. Having disappeared or run away—Anju did not know which theories to believe, not as she lay there and waited for the end. For wait was what she did. Staring out into the darkness, counting along to the heartbeats that marked the passage of time, she waited.
The certainty that came with knowing that the world would end, however, was also mirrored by the sound of footsteps, of Cremia walking into the room, and before she knew it, Anju was listening to her friend tell her what Anju would only realise far too late was a long kept secret.

A fanfic I wrote for the last day of @lozrareshipweek - the prompt of Midnight Rendezvous was simply too great not to write this! I really loved this event, so thank you so much for organising it!

I just found your Buddhist analysis of Majora's Mask and I love it! Have you heard of Majora, the in-progress opera adaptation of the game by M. Bulteau?
Yes! I’ve been following Majora for years, it looks absolutely incredible
It’s funny, now that you mention it I’m realizing @mbulteau seems to have unintentionally removed practically all of the Buddhist symbolism from the story. The character of Link as a bodhisattva is completely absent, so most of the themes of happiness/suffering/healing are as well, it doesn’t seem like the time loop will be directly represented, Goron Village and Zora Hall are confirmed to not be directly visited and the inside of the moon is confirmed to not be a part of the narrative at all meaning that the wheel of samsara analogy doesn’t apply, and all of the symbolism inside the moon including the Bodhi Tree and the Fierce Deity will presumably be gone as well
The giants are still shown walking into the cardinal directions, which still forms a mandala, but without any other context that doesn’t really mean anything. Majora is of course still a character, but Skull Kid is in no way an analog for Gautama Buddha (either in the game or the adaptation), so her symbolism as Mara is pretty much completely lost without the inside of the moon. Effectively all of the Buddhism is gone - which is fine and pretty much necessary for this adaptation, it’s just funny that it all got cut seemingly coincidentally because of the change of protagonist
Anyway, yes, I adore Majora and really hope it gets approved one day. My only hope is that the moon does fall in the end, or at least gets extremely close to it before being unexpectedly stopped at the last second, since the certain death is such a huge part of Anju and Kafei’s story and impact, and was the entire inspiration for that sidequest in the first place. It also just fits better for a version of events without a hero - having this threat that has been building for the entire show be defeated at the end would probably feel like a deux ex machina however it’s done. It’s not a video game, so it’s not the kind of story where there has to be a happy ending no matter what the stakes. Plus, since Kafei doesn’t have any intention or hope of stopping the moon, it’d feel contrived for his actions to result in stopping it anyway, and it’d feel even more contrived if it was stopped regardless of his actions
