Jewish and Israeli Tumblr, I just can't deal with the USA anymore. We're on our tenth consecutive forever-year of stochastic politics. I feel like 2020 was 20 years ago at this point.
I'm tired.
I'll put all the justifications below the cut, but let me get right to my question: Olim & Natural-Born Israeli citizens: What can I expect from Aliyah? Is there a place for me? I want out of the USA.
I currently work as in IT asset management and procurement. Basically I just keep track of my employer's IT-related inventory (think paper, toner, laptops, and tablets), spec and purchase new devices as part of our IT lifecycle, prepare old assets for disposal through our e-waste vendor, and manage/deploy our new inventory when it comes in.
I know Israel has a booming tech sector, but I'm worried I won't make the cut. I'm not an impressive candidate. I have experience in IT but I'm not credentialed or anything. My academic background (Bachelor's) is in business.
Before my current job, I worked in QA software testing (APIs mostly), healthcare technology, and helpdesk (Tier 2). It's gotten me pretty far in the "firm handshake" economy of small town Texas, but I'm not sure it will get me far in the "real" IT world.
Does anyone have any advice for a prospective oleh who's coming from low-paying IT / IT-adjacent work in a low cost of living mid-sized Texan city? What are some good cities / towns to look at besides Jerusalem and Tel Aviv? Are there jobs for someone like me outside of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv?
I guess what I'm asking is whether Aliyah is a good economic decision for someone who doesn't already have money? Any olim here that could give me insights?
The ugly truth is this: The US is sliding into authoritarianism really quickly and I'm on the losing side. Sure there are supposed to be laws in place that will slow this down or mostly stop it, but the law only works if there's someone willing to enforce it and well... Can you name one person who has show the moral fortitude and is still in a position to do something?
To put it in more utilitarian terms: I'd rather be someplace where I'm unlikely to be scooped up and interrogated for being politically and ideologically incompatible with MAGA or whatever. They're already detaining Native Americans and Black Americans and trying to deport them. Bad things are coming, and I'd rather get out now while I still can.
It's not flattering for me to say, it reflects poorly on me, but it's honest: I'm no hero. I'm a coward and I'm not afraid to say it.

OK so basically I don't know anything but I think the way I would propose to save the world of videogames is for there to be something like.....a standardized virtual machine, a quasi-emulator, that "emulates" an imaginary console with a defined architecture. It outputs up to a fixed resolution and framerate (let's say 1920x1080, 60fps. though I wouldn't mind it lower) and performs up to a certain calibre of graphical complexity. We can have it free and open source yadda yadda. And we'll have APIs for it and so on and basically the idea is games can just be developed and distributed as "roms" for this virtual machine.
There's almost certainly some glaring issue with this idea that I would need to know more about computerology to catch but doesn't that just sound great.. Like my inspiration here is the fact that playing old games on an emulator is frankly by far the most accessible and reliable way of video gaming nowadays. For one thing you don't have to worry about specs for each particular game or spend ages wrangling config files to get something to run if you don't have an up-to-date Gaming Machine. If you can emulate one PS2 game you can more or less emulate them all (except gran turismo 4 lol but you get the idea). Also (and this is key) it would hopefully act as a buffer against the inflation of performance demands that makes perfectly good computer hardware obsolete at an unsustainable rate. Limitations breed creativity and all that. Many many old games are still absolutely gorgeous. It's about the hand-craftedness...... I think also there is something to be said for video games not being so staggeringly huge and graphics so detailed that dev companies need to outsource half of the work to graphic design sweatshops in order to get it finished before the next god damn playstation comes out
And anyway you wanna talk about cross platform...Literally what is more cross-platform than the humble game boy advance rom. Like are you serious. You can play that shit on an egg timer. You can play that shit on a cup and string

Hey! Hi. Pretty quick question. I've been half messing around with setting up a Tumblr bot of my own, probably using llama 3 or something. A pretty major issue that I've ran into though is that, as far as I can tell, the tumblr API has no way for bots to respond to asks automatically? But this clearly wasn't an issue for Frank so could I just ask like, how did you do it? Did you use puppeteer or something to like directly interface with a browser? Or is there another way that I'm missing
In the API, an not-yet-answered ask is just a post in the "submission" state. (You can fetch these with the submissions endpoint.)
You can answer an ask through the API by editing it so that its state is something other than "submission."
Typically you would want the state to be "published", though you can also use "draft" to save the response post to drafts or "queue" to queue it.
Just changing the state alone will cause the ask to be published (or drafted/queued) with an empty answer. To supply an answer, what you need to do depends on whether you're using NPF or legacy:
With the legacy edit endpoint, you pass a parameter called "answer".
With the NPF edit endpoint, (IIRC) you append additional blocks to the "content" field containing the answer, and leave the "layout" field as-is to specify that the added blocks are not part of the ask (cf. the NPF layout spec).
I think this should all be possible in pytumblr2. The reason I'm not sure is that Frank never actually used pytumblr2, she just used pytumblr plus a bunch of workarounds and stuff that I eventually split off into pytumblr2.

PSA for FTC/FRC software folks
in previous seasons, the game manual had explicit writing about using the FIRST-provided SDK (the "FtcRobotController" app), but those rules have since been removed from the manual entirely???
I'm not a rules lawyer, but given that the Android NDK exists, it's possible to write your bots in Rust (cough cough please) or other native languages without the world's largest headache!!! I myself am planning on tinkering with this idea in my free time :)
This won't last forever- if you didn't already know, FIRST is unifying the control systems of FTC and FRC under a new system in 2027. They explicitly state the requirement of running on the Linux kernel (specifically they note using the Debian or Ubuntu kernel versions), which would be awesome. You can read their spec here but the actual system has yet to be introduced. But, just judging by their specifications, they intend on exposing a far more flexible system for control methods (via a C/C++ API, as well as official layers for Python and Java aka Kotlin But Worse) which I'm all on board for.
I might consider actually mentoring a season if it means getting to see a Rust-powered bot in FTC
Or maybe I'll just make jokes about bombs, drones, and genocides that FIRST and its sponsors remain complicit to. 🇵🇸

I don’t know this just got into my mind out of nowhere XD
This is a small septuplets au and let’s take their age as 12?
‘Ugh where is it?!?’ Cahaya thought that for umpteenth time while looking for his glasses. The door of Cahaya’s room is pushed in revealing a boy with brown cap calling out his brother, “Cahaya we still have 1 hour before the school starts-“ he stops his track of words when he notices his younger brother looking for something.
“What are you looking for?”
“My specs Tanah! I can’t find them” said Cahaya who have already started to panic a bit
Tanah looks around the room and sees silver framed round glasses on the messy study table. He looks back at his brother who was now looking into his cupboard. He sighs, “They are on the table”
As soon as Cahaya heard that he quickly turned towards his table and looked at it carefully, he too noticed his specs now on table. He was stunned for a moment, “But they weren’t-“ he stops when he realised the other’s presence in his room. He looks at Tanah who was giving him a questioning look
Cahaya calms himself down quickly and smiles at his brother, “Ah! I didn’t look for it here” he scratches the back of his head after he said that
Tanah does not seem to buy that, before he could say (ask) anything, Angin calls him down informing that Api has started eating even when he said him not too. “Come down for breakfast, then we have to leave for school”
“Coming!” Replied Cahaya while keeping one last book in his bag
Tanah left from there after giving a quick glance to his brother, though he felt something was wrong, he ignored it.
At school:
“What is the answer for this question?” Teacher Papa have asked this question from his students of justice fourth time already. All were scribbling their books, many students tried to answer but they all failed. Teacher Papa grinned after seeing how his disciples were failing to answer this tough question which were easy in his eyes and that’s when he noticed one of his white capped student day dreaming in class, it was quite surprising for him as this Boboiboy brother never lost his focus
He walked up to the kid and shouted in his ears to bring him back to the world (Sheesh! His ears!)
Cahaya was startled. He quickly realised about his surroundings. He turned to his teacher who asked him the answer for this question. He looked at his notes where he has solved and stated, “The answer is 546!”
After hearing the answer from the brightest student of class, everyone turned to him.
“The answer issssssss”
“Wrong!!!”
“Wrong!?” Said all the students along with Cahaya. He was already feeling nervous today while answering the question but he knew his answer couldn’t be wrong! How is it wrong
Many students had started gossiping but immediately stopped after receiving death glare from a certain red eyed boy and melancholic smile from an innocent boy
“W-what’s the answer sir?” asked a student named Amar Deep ignoring the tensed atmosphere
“The answer issssssssss”
Ringgggggg!!!
“What you will get to know in next class!!!” Said Teacher Papa in his heroic style while all the students except Cahaya fell down comically, he wasn’t paying much attention as he was going through his notes trying to figure out where he went wrong
“See you tomorrow disciples of justice”
Everyone stood up, “See you tomorrow Teacher of Justice”. Everyone knew it’s just for saying as after break their same teacher will re-appear for P.E. class
Angin entered the class to call his brothers for lunch and he was filled in with this new information Daun gave him
Angin approached his brother who was solving the question again. He tried to speak to him but he was ignored. He looks at the book where his brother had previously solved the question and turns to him
“Cahaya”
“Hm?”
“Why is your solved answer and final answer different?”
Cahaya stopped and turned to his brother with a questioning look while Angin points at two places in his book, “See, here when you solved it you wrote the answer as 5046 and now you wrote it as 546! Why’s that?”
Cahaya was speechless again. He didn’t know what to say. Understanding the awkwardness, he grabs the other’s hand and drags him out of the class, “C’mon you’re just tired, let’s go out for lunch all are waiting”
Daun invites Fang too who nods and follows them behind while looking at them intensely
“THIS IS NOT MY ORDER”
Cahaya flinches a bit after hearing the shout from the man in front of him who also happened to be his customer
“I am sor-“
“You’re sorry?!? Do you have any idea how long have I been waiting! I am a very busy man kid! I don’t have time to play around! If you can’t do such a simple job then don’t do it! You-“
Before the man could continue a tray with hot chocolate was slammed on the table merely braking it. The man looks up and gets a bit scared after receiving a glare from a yellow dressed boy. Cahaya turns at his eldest brother who was darting scariest looks at the man in-front of them
“I am sorry for delaying your order SIR! We just have less staff compared to the crowd SIR! And I hope” glare intensifies “This would be your first and last time visiting our shop” The man gulps, he was scared while Petir holds Cahaya’s shoulder and takes him away
“WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU?!?”
Cahaya flinches again. He’s quite sensitive to loud noises
Petir notices his brother’s reaction and calms down a bit
“This is the third time you took an order to wrong place”
“I-“
“If you don’t want to help out today, just say it!”
“But-“
“Don’t waste my time Cahaya! We already have lot’s of customers coming in and you know how hectic school was today”
Before any of them can continue Daun arrived there
“Sunshine~ you said you would take study session for me and Api today~”
Daun notices the tense atmosphere, “Is something wrong?”
“No! Both of you go and study”
“But-“
“I don’t need your help Cahaya!” Petir glares at him and walks away. Daun understands something was wrong he gives Cahaya a pat on his shoulder and smiles at him who smiles back
They both walks away towards their house unknown to them a boy have been noticing everything around here. He turns to Api, “Api it’s time for your study session”
Api turns to the called out boy with an eye-roll, “Don’t remind me about that and hey! You’re joining too?!”
Other one just nods
“Hey nerd”
Cahaya looks at Api with a deadpan expression, “Stop calling me that!”
“The answer you just told me isn’t matching the answer in book” Api said pointing at his book and notebook
“What?” Cahaya looks at both the books
“Ok I think that’s enough for today”
All three of them turns towards Fang
“What do you mean they haven’t still-“ before Cahaya could continue Fang cuts him off saying, “There’s still two weeks before tests start and also today was a little tiring so study session ends over here”
“But-“
“Yes!! You’re right Fang! Time for video games Daun” saying so Api runs from there
Daun looks at Cahaya who just nods in resignation and he gets excited and runs away from there too
Cahaya narrows his eyes and turns at Fang who was picking up all the books and putting them on the table
“What was that?”
“You need some rest”
“Where did that come from?”
Fang turns at Cahaya, “When was the last time you slept Haya?”
Silence…
Fangs sighs and drags the other to bed was protesting
“Listen I know you are very smart and all that stuff but your brain needs rest too, these mistakes you’re making today is because of your lack of sleep and not because you are incapable”
Cahaya widens his eyes hearing that, “How did you know-“
“So my thoughts were right? Now rest” Fang forcefully makes the other one lie on bed
“Rest and relaxation are very much required nerd so take them in”
Cahaya rolls his eyes and rubs them while groaning
“Is it paining?” Asks Fang while he just nods
“I will go get an ice pack and lemonade, my brother told me they are good for headache” saying so he walks out leaving Cahaya on bed who was still rubbing his eyes uncomfortably
As soon as Fang walked out someone went inside Cahaya’s room who has been eavesdropping the whole conversation
“Cahaya”
Cahaya looks forward towards his brother’s direction
“Thanks for the lemonade and ice pack Tanah!”
“Any time Fang” Tanah smiles at his friend who was holding a tray of lemonade with ice pack on it at a corner
“Also-“ Fang stops and looks back, “Thanks for telling me about it”
Fang smiles and moves towards Cahaya and Daun’s room
‘Air?’
Fang was confused to see Air on the bed sleeping where he had left Cahaya. He moves in and looks closely, he could see Cahaya there too, he was asleep. ‘Maybe Air made him to sleep’ thinking so Fang turns to leave the room when
“Fang”
The said boy turns back and sees Air awake. He slowly and quietly remove his one hand from his brother’s back and asks Fang to drag the chair near bed. Fang quickly keeps the tray on table and does as what Air says.
Air slowly and quietly sits on the chair beside bed while his one hand slowly massaging Cahaya’s head
There was silence for a minute and Fang feels to run away from this tense atmosphere
“Whenever-“
Fang looks up at Air who was looking at Cahaya and speaking,
“-he’s tired or has headache, put a wet towel on his eyes and massage his head. Keep patting his back and he would sleep like a baby. My hands are usually cold due to my power so they provide him with optimum temperature of coldness”
Fang was hearing it quietly while looking at Cahaya
Air looks at Fang sharply which startles him,
“So you see you don’t know everything about him! You could not always be correct”
“But you’re not usually wrong either” saying so Air’s eyes soften down and he turns back to Cahaya
“Even though we are the same age and his friends too but our brother’s relation comes before anything. We are his family at the end of the day and there are stuff which we fail to tell our family or they fail to understand and that’s when-“ he slowly glances at Fang, “friends come in”
Fang looks at Air listening everything quietly
“Thanks for being his friend Fang who understands him when we fails too though it hurts because we sometimes feel to fail as brothers”
“No! You don’t fail as a brother Air and none of you does” Air turns to Fang who was looking at him determined, “You guys are the best brothers Haya would ask for! Trust me”
Air smiles at him, “If you say so Fang but”
Air glares at Fang who is a bit surprised by that reaction, “You better not betray my brother or us again Fang”
“I- I won’t” said Fang nervously
Air smiles again, “Well, we are cool”
Fang sweat drops at other’s change in expression, ‘Are Boboiboy brothers really sane?’
“Oh let’s drink the lemonade before it turns hot” Air exclaimed while pointing at the lemonade
“‘Cause this kid over here is gonna sleep for 4-5 hours straight”
Fang chuckles in amusement and gets the lemonade for himself and Air
He sits on bed near Cahaya’s leg, enjoying his lemonade and seeing other one enjoying it too, “How long are you gonna massage him?”
“Until his pain is ceased away”
Next Day at school:
“So are you coming to my house for studying about different spaceships?”
“I don’t know Fang” Cahaya nervously scratches the back of his head
“Today I have to help out at shop”
“Well it’s fine maybe-“
“Cahaya”
Both of them turns towards Petir who was standing behind them
“Ya?”
“Can we have a moment?”
Saying so Petir looks at Fang who nods at Cahaya and moves towards his class
Cahaya turns towards Petir giving him a questioning look
“Today you aren’t joining us at shop”
“What? Why?!?”
“Tanah wants Air to do some physical activity, according to him he is gaining weight so today, I, him and Air will look after shop so you’re free”
“Oh ok”
“Umm…”
“Yes is there something else?” Asks Cahaya noticing other’s nervousness
“About yesterday-“
“I was tired yesterday so wasn’t able to pay attention, I assure you that won’t happen again-“
“NO! It’s not that! I mean-“
“You mean?”
“Listen yesterday I had a very tiring and tight schedule at school also I had to do Tanah’s work because he was busy with school council’s meeting, then I met some annoying rules breaker which just fuelled me with anger- and then when you were making mistakes I got more annoyed and then that man shouting at you just triggered me…..I am very thin with patience, I tried to stay calm but I took my all anger out on you and umm…said you the things I shouldn’t…”
“You aren’t still good at saying sorry Petir”
Petir glares at other who just looks around, he sighs,
“I am sorry, I shouldn’t have said that”
“It’s fine it was my mistake too…” saying so Cahaya looks down
“I would need your help at times” Cahaya looks at his eldest who had capped down and looking away,
“You are my brother after all, you………you never waste my time”
Cahaya smiles at hearing that, all his negative thoughts were vanishing away
“Also you gotta give your brain some rest or else you will lose your mental stability”
“Are you calling me mentally unstable?!?”
Cahaya glares at other who was looking at his watch,
“It’s time for class get going now”
“Hey!”
Before he could retort the other had started walking away
‘This isn’t over!!!’ Cahaya sulks are turns around when he heard his eldest words,
“Also if you’re going out with Fang, better be back at home by 7pm”
Cahaya turns back but sees that Petir had already waken away, he smiles and enters the class where Teacher Papa has just entered
“About yesterday’s question- yes Cahaya?” Teacher Papa turns at the white capped boy who has raised his hand,
“The answer was 5046 right?”
“Correct!!” Said Teacher Papa in his dramatic gasp and style
Fang smiles at his friend’s confidence which had returned back
I forgot to answer this but
I legit thought at the whole start that Cahaya was having bad vision and later on at that customer one, it hit me that hes tired cuz i have the legit same experiences when im tired(everyone does i think)
And gosh, 'you better not betray my brother or us again' this is them at 12 right? Oh welp
Fang doesnt really keep that promise, at least the intent behind it though is reasonable and is good and for them so-
And i love Air being the one there for Cahaya and letting him sleep its so sweet of him :))

Writeup: AOpen i945GMm-HL shenanigans
AOpen i945GMm-HL - The Retro Web
Welp. This board is weirder than I ever thought it'd be. Not the board in general, but the specific one I bought.
To begin, it turns out that my particular board, and likely many others of the same model, are OEM-customized boards that AOpen provided to a little company called RM Education. They make all-in-one PCs for the UK market.
...And they are using evaluation BIOSes (in other words, BIOS software that's normally only meant for prototyping and... well, evaluation) in their retail boards.
My specific board contains BIOS version R1.08, which is actually R1.02 apparently. There is evidence of an R1.07 existing as well from a reddit thread on the r/buildapc subreddit, but I doubt that it's been dumped anywhere.
Moving on to the original point of this writeup, I got this board because I wanted to build a system that pushed the 32-bit Core Duo T2700 as far as possible, meaning I needed a mobile-on-desktop board. AOpen built a reputation for doing this sorta stuff in the 2000s, so I went ahead and picked one of their boards for use (although I would've much preferred using the top of the line AOpen i975Xa-YDG instead if it were being sold anywhere. That's a VERY tasty looking board with its full size DIMM slots and SLI-compatible dual PCIe x16 slots and ability to crank the FSB all the way to 305MHz).
Slightly surprisingly, the Core Duo T2700 is quite the overclocker! It's able to push from 2.3GHz all the way up to 2.7GHz with some FSB overclocking using the SetFSB tool. It's multiplier-locked to a range from 6.0 to 14.0, so I can only push it through this means.
The board I'm using, the AOpen i945GMm-HL, supports running the FSB up to 195MHz. It's okay-ish in terms of stability, but crashes when running Aida64 benchmarks unless I loosen the memory timings from the 5-5-5-15 settings that it uses at 333MHz to 5-6-6-18, which is just the tiniest bit faster than its stock settings for 400MHz operation by SPD. With these settings, it's much more stable and is able to run the benchmarks, though unless I lower the FSB from 195MHz to 190, it will consistently crash Chrome when trying to play Youtube videos on integrated graphics. I'll likely experiment some to see if adding a card capable of handling the video playback in hardware helps.
For now, this is all for this blog post. I'll follow-up with more details as they come in reblogs. As follows are the specs of the system:
AOpen i945GMm-HL (OC'ed from 166MHz FSB to 195MHz, 190MHz for more stability)
Intel Core Duo T2700 @ 2.7GHz (OC'ed from 2.3GHz)
2x 2GB Crucial DDR2 SO-DIMMs @ 5-6-6-18 timings
Some random 40GB Hitachi hdd lol
Windows XP Pro SP3, fully updated via LegacyUpdate
Supermium Browser (fork of Google Chrome and the reason why I was able to test Youtube playback in the first place)
Coming up: Installing One-Core-API and Java 21 to play Minecraft 1.21 on a 32-bit system out of spite for Microsoft "dropping support" for 32-bit CPUs.

nba draft models
patrick bacon nhle blog post
f1metrics model blog post
f1 mathematical model 2023 ratings
f1 analysis 2023 driver rankings
+ there was a guy who charted specific prospect comps but i don't remember who it was anymore... need to look around some more
@__@ thinking about projection modeling for feeder series again. the thing is that the world of "advanced stats" does not tangibly exist in f1 fandom, which is mildly fascinating to me because it's a sport literally predicated on real-time data & predictive analysis... of course the issue is more so that the primary "product" is half black-box and there are limits to the confidence one can ascribe to any analysis because projections of a driver's performance must contextualize the inherent characteristics of the car, which are not entirely known to factually anyone, and even more importantly it is entirely impossible to predict or account for any team's incoming in-season upgrades, so by the time a general competitive order has been determined there is less of a desire to make the projections & evaluations that shape so much of nhl/nba/etc. analytical consumption (at least imo).
there are databases and apis (ergast... but it's shutting down) out there except f1metrics hasn't been active since 2019 and the other modeling work i've seen is quite few and far between... the brunt of f1 stats is basically telemetry overlays, race pace distributions, quali h2h metrics & gap medians, etc. etc........ in the end people love stats in this sport but i feel like the framework in which they get disseminated is always so restrictive ?
anyway the thing is that f1 being non-spec (or not the fact of it being non-spec specifically but rather how it makes evaluating team development impossible because of how complex & secretive the processes are) complicates this entire exercise in the first place, but then...... what of prospect evaluation??
it drives me increasingly crasy to see people incapable of contextualizing junior series dominance + the overall trajectory that a driver's career takes before they make it to f1. the big disclaimer is, of course, that f2 and f1 are not linearly comparable and it's presumptuous to be able to say that someone who dominates in f2 will be able to come to grips with the mechanics of a completely different car and the elevated competition at the highest level of motorsport, but the more i think about it the more i'm like well... is this not basically how nhle gets approached too??? sure you can say that someone who thrives at the european junior level might struggle to adjust to a specific coaching system while playing on smaller ice with increased physicality, but that's a speculative caveat at the end of the day... motorsport is one of the most ever Vibes Based fandoms in terms of rating junior drivers and proclaiming others as being washed but i feel like there are enough traits to create a better evaluation system than currently exists.
considerations
(get mecachromed) how 2 account for illegal engines and private testing etc. well: you can't. or i don't know how to
teams obviously know more from running their rookies privately than we do. but models aren't made to be right and in this case they're made to vaguely identify a measure of potential
instantly harder to evaluate the strength of the "rest of the field" if none of the other competitors have ever eventually made it to f1, because those drivers will hence always be something of an unknown variable
nhle is basically about contextualizing junior pts output & using that to determine a player's expected usefulness (further generalized by elite, star, nhler, bust etc.), which again is not really translatable to f1 because although quality of teammate does have a variable impact in hockey it's literally mathematically impossible to be to the same level of f1 wherein you can end up in a backmarker and score 0 points. and obviously it's like... the linear accumulation of points is simply not the same, you don't get 1 single point for every action you make, so going by absolute differences in f1 scoring is often misleading (though it does carry its own context... anyway)
that being said, Traits:
total points (adjusted per championship format)
year # in championship (i think being in your 3rd year Should be much more highly weighted than some people are willing to admit)
age / series run previously
dominance over field (% of total avail points)
dominance over teammates (quali h2h, sprint/feature h2h, quali % diff, etc.)
some measure of consistency? but the idea also, to me, is like....... i wonder how for example ollie would rate if this were applied to his rookie f2 season because how much does a team value his rough-around-the-edges quickness over theo's ultimately unremarkable 3rd year consistency?
that's really the crux of it at the end of the day.......... many thoughts but that's where i'm at right now. hmm. let me put this under a read more i did not think i'd write this much
also -> realizing things about evaluating ceiling of performance in f1 (there Is a maximum you can achieve unlike other sports where the human limit to how many points you can score is more evident) and also that retroactively evaluating current graduates requires some level of analysis wrt f1 performance & longevity anyway.... thinking about george/lando/sharl/alex comparisons + mick/guanyu/oscar co... Hm. idk

The Predator BiFrost Radeon RX7600 graphics card Specs
Tumblr media
Acer Predator BiFrost RX7600 Graphics Card Features
The reasons we adore this AMD Radeon RX7600 Acer Predator BiFrost graphics card
High-Capacity GPU Engine: The default Graphics Clock of this GPU is 2.32GHz; an integrated Overclock Boost can raise that to 2.725GHz.
Rely on a rapid 8GB of state-of-the-art GDDR6 video memory to stay ahead of any game-related snags. Quickly incoming details allow you to adjust the graphics settings. Even faster is the ample 18Gbps memory bandwidth.
180W TDP: This card’s construction was done with a reasonable 180-watt Total Design Power consumption in mind. This allows it to extend its legs and, if necessary, provide more performance. It is also simple to connect, requiring only one 8-pin PCIe port for power.
Resolution: Up to 8K: When it comes to resolution, the BiFrost doesn’t skimp. It has enough pixels to power 8K displays, so you can connect TVs and monitors with high definition. It also has the newest display outputs, supporting up to four screens simultaneously with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4.
DirectX 12 Ultimate Support: The BiFrost offers complete support for Microsoft’s most recent DirectX 12 graphics API because of its RDNA 3 architecture. This makes it possible to incorporate cutting-edge visual effects, such as ray tracing, into your games.
Hybrid Cooling Array: In addition to two fans, Acer included a unique vapor cooling chamber to efficiently dissipate heat under load. By quickly removing heat from the GPU die, this configuration maintains boost clock speeds during extended gaming sessions.
Predator Utility Software: You can access precise controls and monitoring with ease thanks to the Predator BiFrost software utility that comes with it. Increase the card’s capabilities by modifying the RGB lighting or clock speeds.
Is it worthwhile to purchase this Acer Predator BiFrost AMD Radeon RX7600 graphics card?
The Acer Predator BiFrost Radeon RX7600 offers fairly good performance overall for a mid-range card. It punches above its weight class thanks to the premium features it manages to stuff in, like fast GDDR6 memory, a high-bandwidth bus, and capable cooling.
Although it clearly lacks the outrageous horsepower of the most expensive flagships, this GPU still packs a lot of power. In the newest games, you can enjoy fluid frame rates and increase the graphics settings to their maximum. Its improved specifications offer a significant improvement over an entry-level card.

I don't work in the tech field currently, but I have a background in systems administration, devops, and QA.
what y'all gotta understand is that some developer got the specs for their part of a system in the morning scrum, wrote down their first idea for how to make it work, then just tweaked that until it checked all the boxes they were given so they could move on with their day.
I once went behind somebody and found that his code, which needed to get six particular pieces of information from a server, was making a separate API call to that server for each of those pieces of information. this was despite the fact that the in-house script he was using for those API calls could get all six in one go. when I asked him why his code was so inefficient, his response was that he had only skimmed enough of the documentation to get it working, and then got started on the next project.
And the thing is, that guy basically had the optimal approach to his job, because the metric that was used in performance reviews was how many problems were solved, and not the quality of the solutions.
that's basically how problems like this happen: you write an app to verify that a customer is allowed to drive a vehicle, but it's too data-intensive for weak signals, or the time-out is too short, or you built it without a contingency for outages. and it shipped, because even though it's built poorly, it checked all the boxes.

Welcome to the future, where you don’t own anything and the stuff you rent stops working once your phone has no signal.

Yes, I Got a Cloud Server for Free Forever Here’s How You Can Too.
Let me tell you a little secret: I'm running a cloud server right now—for zero dollars. No tricks, no expired trials, no surprise bills. Just forever free. And the best part? You can do it too.
This isn’t one of those “free for 12 months” offers that quietly auto-bills you after a year. This is 100% free forever, and I’ve been using it to host websites, run experiments, and even power a personal VPN.
Here's how I did it—and how you can get your own cloud server for free too.
Tumblr media
🧠 First, Why Would You Even Want a Cloud Server? If you’re a dev, student, entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to mess around with tech, a cloud server is basically your Swiss Army knife. You can:
Host your own blog or portfolio
Deploy web apps
Run bots or automation scripts
Set up a secure VPN
Tinker with Docker, Node.js, Python, and other cool tools
Learn cloud infrastructure (and impress your next job interviewer)
But traditionally, cloud servers cost money. Not a lot—but still enough to be annoying if you’re bootstrapping.
🧨 The Hack: Free-Tier Cloud Servers (Yes, They’re Legit) Here’s the part most people don’t realize: some major cloud providers offer "always free" tiers. These aren’t trials. They’re permanent free resources designed to bring developers into their ecosystem.
Let me break down the best ones:
🟢 Oracle Cloud - The Real MVP What You Get (Always Free):
2 Arm-based virtual machines (VMs)
1 GB RAM each, up to 4 vCPUs
200 GB storage
10 TB/month of data transfer
👉 This is what I'm using. It’s not just a toy—this thing can run websites, apps, and even a Minecraft server (with some optimization). It’s shockingly good for something that costs nothing.
Pro Tip: Choose the Ampere A1 (Arm) VM when signing up. They're the magic machines that stay free forever.
🔵 Google Cloud Free Tier 1 f1-micro VM (in select regions)
30 GB HDD + 5 GB snapshot storage
1 GB outbound traffic
It’s more limited, but solid if you want to dip your toes into Google’s ecosystem. Great for small side projects or learning.
🟠 Amazon AWS Free Tier 750 hours/month of a t2.micro or t3.micro EC2 instance
5 GB S3 storage
Other bonuses like Lambda and DynamoDB
⚠️ This one’s only free for the first 12 months, so set a calendar reminder unless you want to wake up to a surprise bill.
Honorable Mentions (For Web Devs & Hobby Projects) Flyio – Run full-stack apps with generous free bandwidth
Render / Railway – Deploy static sites, APIs, and databases with ease
GitHub Student Pack – If you’re a student, you unlock a TON of free cloud goodies
⚠️ A Few Quick Warnings Before you go server-crazy:
Stick to free-tier specs (e.g. Oracle’s Ampere A1, Google’s f1-micro)
Watch bandwidth usage—10 TB sounds like a lot, until it isn’t
Avoid regions that aren’t free (yes, it matters where your VM is located)
Set up billing alerts or hard limits if the provider allows it
So… What Can You Actually Do With a Free Server? Here’s what I use mine for:
✅ Hosting my personal website (no ads, no downtime) ✅ Running a WireGuard VPN to stay safe on public Wi-Fi ✅ Testing code 24/7 without killing my laptop ✅ Hosting bots for Discord and Telegram ✅ Learning Linux, Docker, and server security
Basically, it’s my own little lab in the cloud—and I didn’t pay a dime for it.
Final Thoughts: Cloud Power in Your Pocket (For Free) In a world where subscriptions are everywhere and everything feels like a money grab, it's refreshing to find real value that doesn’t cost you anything. These cloud free tiers are hidden gems—quietly sitting there while most people assume you need a credit card and a corporate budget to get started.
So go ahead. Spin up your own free cloud server. Learn. Build. Break things. And have fun doing it—on someone else’s infrastructure.
