if anyone out there has any tech-bro knowledge (apple) and would like to share their wisdom, please help me

so a few days ago I bought iCloud storage for the first time ever. I’ve been having storage problems on my phone for literal years and I finally gave in. it fixed a lot of things but also deleted a bunch of shit on a different device and I don’t know how to get any of it back

so, full story: alongside my phone, I have an iPad. It’s been uploading stuff to iCloud since I got it in may last year, and I didn’t really realise it had been doing that. I didn’t ask it to or anything, it just did that. so the other day, i was frustrated about all these photos I couldn’t look at properly without wifi, so I turned iCloud Photos off for my iPad.

little did I know, this action would immediately delete all the photos that had been only stored in iCloud. which, unfortunately, was (alongside some other things) all of my in-progress photos from my paintings, which I literally cant recreate. my favourite part of the painting process is taking photos, and skipping between two photos that are hours or days apart and seeing how it developed in all the small ways. I’m a fairly new painter, so I just like to be proud of myself for making something that looks cool, and I lost all of the shit that made me see my progress

so, my question: does ANYONE know how I can get these photos back? ive tried all the stuff Google tells me, but apparently iCloud Photos have already turned back on on my iPad (I assume because of something I did on my phone??), so I can’t re-sync the photos because I don’t want to turn it off and potentially lose all the stuff now on iCloud on my phone.

so if the answer is in fact to just turn iCloud Photos off and back on again, can someone please give me some advice and words that will make me not have an anger induced panic attack about potentially losing everything again?
