Hunting for Clues (Dad Squad)
(@nancyheart11 @telemna-hyelle @smilesrobotlover @skyward-floored + @ whoever else wants to be tagged)
The air was uncomfortably thick as a heavy blanket of moisture clung to Rusl's skin. It felt like summer in Ordon Village, except he was in no place to be stripping off his shirt and going swimming to cool off.
Well, swimming might be involved. It depended on if there was a clear path to their destination.
They were following a lead he'd gotten from a nearby village. After the cucco incident, all it took was some conversations to figure out that a local cave had suddenly become more dangerous, that people were being harassed and attacked when they approached it. It didn't take much to ascertain, then, that if the Yiga had a holdout nearby, and a cave was being guarded, it was likely that the group would find Yiga there.
Abel led the group, tense with anticipation. Fierce was last, surveying the area and watching their flank. Rusl kept his eyes alert, wiping the sweat on his brow with his headband. His heart beat hard and fast, not so much from the exertion of climbing along the hill as they followed the river, but in the hope that they would find Link. It had been far too long since his capture, and though Rusl tried to stay focused on the objective rather than worry, the anxiety had steadily been growing.
It had been too familiar, having one of his boys kidnapped. He hated it. He'd been eager to push forward and find him. But when he'd realized he was in a completely different Hyrule, he'd recognized that he'd have to take a step back and figure this out. But now they had a lead, and now there was tangible hope that he could get to his boy, and now nothing was going to stop him from getting there.
They eventually reached the waterfall that supposedly hid the cave's entrance, and Rusl walked up to stand beside Abel.
"No guards," Abel noted quietly, his voice barely audible over the crashing water.
Worry wormed its way around Rusl's heart and mind. Abel was right, after all - the reason they had learned of this place at all was because people had been warded away with violence. The fact that no one had even tried to stop them was telling - either they were walking into a trap, or their lead was an old one.
"I have not noticed any scouts, either," Fierce added as he caught up with them easily. "This does not bode well."
Rusl drew his sword. "Then we should be ready for anything. Let's go."
The water was refreshingly cool on his skin as he passed through, bowing his head as the weight and pressure briefly beat down on him. He opened his eyes again quickly, blinking water away and surveying the area.
The cave was enormous, with moss and glowing mushrooms lining the stone path leading far beyond where he could see. He grabbed a lantern and quickly lit it, leading his companions into the darkness.
Bearing a torch and a sword while looking for lost children. This is too familiar. Rusl bit his tongue, shaking the thought away. He had to focus.
A particularly large water droplet fell from the ceiling, splashing on the top of his head and startling him back to reality. He gave a quiet huff, thanking the goddesses for the help focusing, and gripped his sword more tightly.
The farther they walked, the worse it felt. The waterfall drowned out any sound that could have tipped them off if there was someone nearby, and the very distinct lack of people made Rusl's skin crawl. The Yiga had already tried to ambush them once, and they were defeated fairly easily, but still... a place like this could make matters difficult if they were attacked.
There was a faint glow ahead, bluish in color. Rusl lowered his lantern slightly, squinting and looking for movement. He pulled the wick back a little, dimming the light so they wouldn't be as obvious as they approached. Though Fierce's steps were much louder than theirs, he still tried to creep along as quietly as Rusl and Abel did until the trio had reached a bend in the long cavernous pathway.
When Rusl peeked around, he saw litter and debris, and he immediately knew they were too late. The tension drained out of him with a heavy exhale, disappointment filling the void. His eyes were attracted upward, however, to trace the blue light to its source. It was a strange, frog-like creature clinging to the stony walls and hopping around easily. Rusl stared at it in wonder, reminded of the light spirits, and wondered if it was kin to them.
Abel swore softly, walking into the room, seemingly ignoring the creature altogether.
"Hello, little sprite," Fierce called to the animal. It turned, glancing at him, and continued to bounce around cheerfully.
"What is it?" Rusl asked, curiosity holding his anguish at bay.
"I am not entirely sure," Fierce answered, catching Rusl off guard. "I can sense its magic, though. It is not of the Yiga."
With that little knowledge, Rusl returned his attention to the large room the creature was illuminating. The room had a few barrels, a desk with some notes, but most of what was there had been removed. Abel was busy perusing a book of some sort that was on the desk.
Approaching, Rusl asked, "What did you find?"
"Notes," Abel answered simply, engrossed in his reading. Rusl didn't bother pushing the matter, waiting for him to finish.
The loud meow that emitted from one of the barrels distracted him well enough. All three men turned their gaze, though Abel resumed his reading quickly, and Fierce and Rusl walked to the nearest barrel.
Inside was a kitten, creamy white fur blending with patches of buttery brown. It meowed again as it looked up at the pair.
"What are you doing here, little guy?" Rusl asked as he cautiously reached in. The kitten didn't swat at him, allowing itself to be hauled gently out of the barrel where it had been trapped.
When Rusl turned to ask Abel if he had finished reading, he saw the knight staring at him with wide eyes and a furrowed brow, as if he'd just been given some sort of life altering news. Ice filled his veins, worry for Link immediately shutting out any other thought. "What's wrong?"
"The Hero of Time," Abel said. "That's... your son is the Hero of Time?"
Several thoughts clamored for attention all at once in Rusl's mind. The Hero of Time was a figure of legend, and he had been the one to train Link. Did.. did that mean Link inherited the title? He supposed that wasn't unreasonable. But that meant the Yiga had written about him in their log, and that meant he had to be alive still, because his title would not have been the first piece of information Abel had clung to if it were otherwise.
Hopefully.
Rusl walked to his companion in three large steps, the kitten bouncing in his arms, and he demanded, "What did they say about him?"
"T-they..." Abel glanced between Rusl and the kitten, temporary confusion flitting across his face at the sight of the animal before he continued, "They said he's---he's, ah, been fighting them off."
Rusl's dread vanished in an instant and was replaced with hope. "What? But..."
They hadn't captured him after all? Was he out here somewhere, lost and injured and alone, searching for Rusl as desperately as Rusl was looking for him?
"They escaped," Abel explained, holding the book close to his chest. "They escaped the main Yiga stronghold. They've been spreading their forces to find them."
The kitten was suddenly plucked out of Rusl's arms, held by the scruff of its neck by the fierce deity as he stared at it. "And this tiny furry creature was supposed to track him?"
Rusl's eyes stung unexpectedly with tears, and he let out a wet laugh, blinking them away. "I think maybe this little guy got lost."
"The kitten was supposed to be bait..." Abel added with a tone that was just as confused as Fierce's. "Apparently to lure the dog in."
Rusl whipped his head towards the knight. "Dog? What dog?"
Rusl immediately snatched the book before Abel could answer, courtesy abandoned, and the knight snarled, grabbing it back.
"This isn't time for your paranoia," Rusl snapped. "Whatever you're hiding, unless it has to do with my boy, I don't care. Let me read it."
Before either party could continue the argument, the book was taken out of Abel's tight grip with ease, making the knight yelp. The Fierce Deity flipped it in his hands, reading it aloud. "We have arrived at the designated site per our leader's orders. We're currently looking for a good way to lure the wretched heroes. The Hero of Time has been a constant thorn in our side in every encounter. He even took our bananas during the last fight."
Spirits above. Link's alive. He's alive and he escaped.
Of course he did. It was Link. His boy had fought Zant and Ganondorf, had been trained by the Hero of Time (the previous Hero of Time...? Did they all have that title, then?), had been forged into a strong warrior through the dark flames of twilight magic. Link could handle anything. Rusl shouldn't have worried.
Except he still did. Because he didn't know if Link was hurt. He didn't know where Link was, and the Yiga were hunting him.
What did these people want with him?! All Rusl knew of the Yiga was that Abel said they were traitors to the crown who wanted to see Hyrule fall. He said they were a cult of sorts, and they worshipped a demon, the same one that had destroyed Abel's Hyrule.
The deity turned the page with a thumb, carelessly tossing the kitten towards Rusl, who jumped, startled, and quickly caught the frightened little animal. He leaned it against his chest to soothe it as Abel grew steadily more wound up watching their companion.
"We've got a lead on their whereabouts," Fierce continued reading. "It appears the Hero's condition has improved somewhat, or at least enough that he is still alive. We have to ensure we catch him before he dies."
Rusl's breath was stolen from him. "What?!"
Fierce also stared worriedly at the pages, reading silently to gather more information quickly. It left Rusl in too much suspense, and he said, "Fierce, tell us what the hell is going on. Is my boy okay?"
"They're referring to three figures," Fierce answered as he read. "The Hero of Time, the Hero, and the dog. Sometimes they mention a mutt... I assume that must be the dog."
The uncertainty and anxiety were going to drive Rusl insane. "Just read it aloud. Please."
"Our camp was raided by the Hero of Time last night," Fierce obliged. "He took all our food and smashed all our bananas. One of our scouts spotted his dog but then we lost contact with him."
"We've made a discovery. The dog likes hanging around other animals. One of our scouts saw it playing with some kittens. We've since acquired one of the kittens and will be utilizing it to lure in the dog. If the mutt comes, then the Hero of Time will follow. Then all we have to do is find his base of operations to get the Hero."
"We've been in this cave for two weeks, and it's been almost a week since there's been any sign of our targets. The kitten ploy has not come to anything. Another group reported in that there are warriors looking the heroes. We will attempt to set up a trap for them. In the meantime, I've decided we need to move camp."
The longer Rusl listened, the more he realized that the Hero of Time was not, in fact, his Link. He could easily see his boy attacking the Yiga encampment, but he wouldn't simply raid it for supplies and leave. Link was too self reliant for that - he would gather his own supplies. He would only enter an enemy camp to eliminate it. His sweet boy was gentle in all ways but battle, after all.
Also, he knew, out of any group of boys, who would go running to the nearest pile of cuddly animals.
He knew exactly which one was his Link.
Which meant...
Rusl glanced over at Abel, really looked at him, and he saw the subtle signs in the man's stony demeanor. He saw the worry, the fear, the way the man's hands trembled.
"The injured one... that's your son, isn't it?" Rusl asked quietly.
Abel's expression darkened, a fierce, nearly feral glare crossing his face. His look dared Rusl to say anything else.
So this was the unspoken fear Abel had been carrying with him. This was the reason he didn't dare speak much about his boy. Had he thought they'd take advantage of his boy's vulnerable state? What else was Abel hiding?
"The Hero of Time is my child," Fierce said firmly, closing the book with a quick snap. "That is his title. And his tactics match. One of your children is missing."
Rusl bit his tongue as he smiled and choked back a snort. "Well... we'll find my boy. Let's start by finding yours."
"The Hero you've been protecting is the Hero of Time?" Abel confirmed.
"Yes," Fierce answered with a nod.
Abel let out a sigh of what seemed to be relief.
"What's wrong with your son?" Rusl asked gently.
The knight closed his eyes, his body stiffening. He didn't trust them. Rusl almost felt hurt, but then again... he had just withheld vital information about his Link as well.
But why wouldn't he? Telling them his boy could turn into a beast was a recipe for disaster.
Then again, them not knowing was equally bad. He knew that from experience. They'd already had to battle one pack of wolves and he'd nearly had a meltdown. He had had a meltdown.
What secret was Abel keeping to protect his boy?
Rusl's train of thought was interrupted when the strange blue bouncing creature hopped over, hovering directly over Abel. Seeing as the man wasn't reacting, Rusl hesitantly pointed to it. "You... can see that thing, right?"
Distracted, Abel glanced upward. Then he huffed. "It's a bubbulfrog."
"A what?"
"Bubbulfrog," Abel repeated, glancing at the pair. "Legend says if you strike one down you can obtain a mystical stone from it."
"You don't seem very fazed by this," Rusl noted.
"Link and I have found plenty in different caves when he was little," Abel sighed. He raised an eyebrow as he looked up. "I'm surprised this one isn't blowing bubbles at us, though."
"They do that?"
"Often. Link loved popping them. But we... never got this close," Abel went on uncertainly. "I wasn't sure how dangerous they were. They usually stay away from people."
"It won't harm you," Fierce said.
"Either way," Abel continued with a dismissive wave. "They don't hang around people. If there's one here it means the Yiga left long ago."
The kitten meowed again, pawing at Rusl's tunic. The Ordonian smiled down at it before looking back at Abel, whose gaze had grown distant. Meanwhile, Fierce turned, motioning towards them. "We should move on. It is clear the boys are not here and have not been in the area for some time."
Nodding, the two men followed him out of the cave. Rusl ran a hand gently over the kitten, which purred in response, relaxing him a little. They really needed to get to the bottom of all of this. Abel needed to open up and tell them more about the Yiga. And maybe... maybe Rusl should tell them about Link's transformative abilities before something terrible truly did happen.
Rusl sighed, looking around as the humidity came back in full force upon exiting the cave. This was... a mess. But at leas the knew Link was alive, and that was all that mattered.

the very long draft of the atla prequel fic i’ll never write
- title idea: oh, brother were art thou ?
- focuses on : iroh and ozai’s dynamic from childhood to the day he marries ursa. includes extras and dives into the fire nation royal family dynamic but it’s mostly about those two.
- inspirations: cain and abel’s story, the ballad of songbirds and snakes.
- characters included: iroh, ozai, azulon, the firelady ilah, ursa, iroh’s wife, ozai’s mistress. ( they will be named )
- characterizations :
iroh — sometimes we forget that iroh was the general. the warrior. the brother most familiar with blood and violent. iroh’s characterization should not shy away from that but also keep a core of goodness and questioning. he’s the one who should have a more reflexive internal monologue. it should be a growing difference between what he believes is right and what he actually does to the point where it breaks. the breaking point will not be part of the fic but it should be seeds planted yk? inspirations : regulus black, jaime lannister / faceclaim ideas : remy hii
ozai — the make or break character and the easiest to screw up ( i think ), too evil and the heart of the story is gone and iroh just looks stupid for loving his evil brother, not evil enough and it’s not ozai. his arc is not a corruption arc but the story of a man realizing he can get away with any atrocious act he decides to commit, his internal monologue lacks the reflexive nature of iroh’s, ozai never pounders on the right and wrong of an act only on how that could benefit him. as the brother who stayed home, ozai’s battle is mostly weeding out plots and schemes, of court drama and seizing power. inspirations: coriolanus snow, tom riddle, fc ideas: sebastian amoruso ( i know he played jet stfu ), dylan wang
firelord azulon — an absent father, i don’t care how his reign was, he is the definition of trying to rule with only force and falling ( being disliked by both high rankings and the people ), hard power ! he’s more of representation of a fire nation that looks down on weakness ( non-benders, women, children ) inspiration: tywin lannister
firelady ilah — a cruel mother who loves power but can possess none because she’s a woman so she tries to teach her sons her form of strength, manipulations, secrets, blackmail, iroh had more aptitude but he was azulon’s general so she had to make do with ozai ( who refuses to learn but will eventually ), she’s the bitterness of a fascist woman in a fascist man’s world. she’s frustrated in all ways possible and that bitterness turns to wickedness. inspirations: alicent hightower if she was like her haters think she is, morgana, walburga black. fc ideas: michelle yeoh
lady ursa — poor lady ursa, i haven’t read to comics and i don’t buy they are cannon so here’s my characterization of the pookiest of pookies. lady ursa was the daughter of important people, think courtiers, who never really wanted a child, ursa was also raised in palace along with many other high borns. she was also younger than ozai and a talented herbalist. she wanted to marry him and do her duty, he was good looking and a prince and she was barely sixteen. and she wanted out of her parent’s grasp. probably one of the most unlucky people in the story. at first ignored and humiliated before their marriage and after abused and controlled. inspirations: katherine howard / fc claim ideas : ashley liao, lola tung
aliya ( ozai’s mistress ) — this is a very self indulgent character bc i like parallels and the hope that some air nomads survived in secret and had children. aliya is this concept with the addition that she’s a performer on ember island who would really like a bridge to her ancestor’s culture and past but also probably is acutely aware of how she’s not the airbender she should be. she’s a dancer, she’s an acrobat, she’s artist, she’s vain and attached to material desires and smarter than she looks but also still just a girl trying to keep herself alive and her secrets secret. ( yes, ozai lowkey kinda kills her or at least thinks he and erased her and her family from history. snowbaird coded but also worse ) inspirations: lucy gray baird, satine / fc claim ideas : simone ashley
saori ( iroh’s wife ) — very minor character but all that can be said is that she’s no easy woman. she’s demanding of him after they are arranged together because she believes and sees that he can be better. she also grew up in the palace as a courtier and is known for being incredibly opinionated and sharp on her wit. inspirations: beatrice ( much ado about nothing ) / fc claim : jamie chung

the fun part about our web of ocs is when we find new and exciting ways to tie in their lore.
if June was raised in a parish but later taken in by the goodnights (he's a fringe bastard), he wouldn't be able to align with how the family runs. this leads to his cousin gamorrah pointing out a run down old Church on his property in appalachia like hey, if you're too Catholic for running a family business come do this instead.
which means June meets Gamorrah best friend and couch sleeper, lucky- who is spooky in a very similar way- and stokes Gamorrah boyfriend nates religious roots into very likely attending mass. this could give him new community resources for taking care of his mother, mary may!
this ALSO means June meets Travis, who lives way out in the hills on the only plot of land for miles the goodnights couldn't poach. he uses the bible in his witchcraft but doesn't like traveling into Genesis, so a church halfway down the mtn instead? and on his lover Nero's old farm, at that?
Travis and June are like the perfect friends. perfect conversational compatibility. lucky and June would have a crazy relationship between junes ability to impress his desires onto others like reverse empathy, and Lucky's ability to communicate with spirits- esp those inhabiting the parish June is restoring. lucky lives his life "yes and-"ing the spirits he speaks to so junes influence is like 1 for 1 and June is very creatively driven to restore the spring and the direct input from the residing spirits is a GREAT inspiration for him.
this also ties Gamorrah and Nero in closer- they're cousins, but the goodnight family is very very large and spread out across the country so it's a good excuse to bond fr!
& Reggie frequently visits jackalshide to hang out with hunter and ruben, so going up the mountain to Genesis (jackalshides larger sister town) means plausibly running into June! his soulmate! thereby weaving him into all their weird little dynamics too, and making him more available as a positive role model and support system to hunter!!!
also it's not relevant but I also want to throw in the idea of June meeting Abel, who's the son of the preacher at the local snake church in Genesis, bc I think it would be funny. June has some interesting snake symbolism in some aus...

This is my first attempt at a kind of fanfic i guess? Lol its a bit of a test
Lets see how it goes
This is part 1
Dex belongs to @leech-twinz
Warnings: cussing , light sickness (flu)
Ships present: Cain x Oc (Dex), Abel x Larry
5 am
Another morning at site 17. Another day at the foundation. Scp 073 reached out to the alarm, which’s annoying ringtone had woken him up, and turned it off. He yawned, questioning to himself how he could be more tired than when he went to bed, and got up. Cain walked up to the bathroom, turned the tap on and started washing his face with cold water, in the attempt to better wake up and hopefully shake off this strange feeling of fatigue and tiredness. He turned off the tap and grabbed a towel to his face, then looked up:“Man, I really should shave '' was his first thought upon seeing his reflection in the mirror , but something made him observe closely. Cain noticed that his face was unusually pale and the bags under his eyes were somehow blacker than normal . “Yes, maybe I should '' he mumbled. He decided to dismiss the entire situation to the fact that maybe he should sleep more. There was no way he was sick. He hasn’t been sick in 1000 years! Nope, he must've been just tired. Right ? He sighed and made his way to the door leading on the corridor, then proceeded straight walking past the site’s canteen. Usually he would have stopped for some breakfast, but this time, while well knowing it wasn’t that much of a good idea, he decided not to. He didn’t feel much like eating right now, and only the thought of food made him nauseous.
“Hey dumbass!”
073 looked up
“Good morning to you too, brother”
“Have you seen Frost by any chance? It’s at least 30 minutes that i look for her!”
“Abel you know very well that she is never up before 8 am”
“And?”
“It’s 5 am”
“Oh”
“You guys better not be talking behind my back” Frost walked towards her brothers with a smirk
“Huh, since when are you a morning person ?” Smiled Cain
“Oh I’m not. But Zack unfortunately is. And the ringtone of his alarm today was so loud that I heard it from my cell. And that’s why I’m awake” Frost yawned “Man, I hate waking up- ... early-“
Scp 9108 stopped “Dude you alright? You don’t look too good “
Abel immediately looked at Cain
“Hm? Oh! Yes I’m fine, just tired” 073 shrugged off “ Maybe I should sleep more “
Frost stayed silent for a moment. 076 instead didn’t break eye contact , not believing a word of what his brother just said
“Fine” she obliged “still, you probably should go back to bed. You are pale as fuck “
“Nah, I’m fine”
“Well, I was going to eat something. Would you guys like to come too?”
“Fuck yeah! I haven’t had breakfast yet!” exclaimed Abel
“Thanks but no. I’m not hungry “
Abel began to stare again at his older brother
“What?”
“Nothing. Why?“
“You were looking at me weird—“
“I wasn’t “ argued 076
“...ok?””Anyway , I have to go. I have to catalog some documents and Doctor Glass asked me for some help. If you need me I’ll be in his office”
“Ok! See you later brother”
As Cain walked away Frost and Abel shared a worried look
“That was wired -“ mumbled 9108
“...”
“Aby?”
“Hm?”
“Dude, were you even listening to me?”
“Yeah. Sorry I was just thinking”
“—-“ “Yes, I’m worried too”
“Never said I was”
“Hmh. Yeah. Sure-“
Abel shrugged
Of course he was worried. Why would his brother lie like that?
“Hi guys!“
“AAHH!” 9108 rapidly looked behind her
“ Oh shoot! I’m sorry“ started apologizing Dex upon seeing the reaction of his sister-in-law
“No prob “ Frost reassured him “I just didn’t expect that lol”
“SERIOUSLY what does ‘lol’ mean?!” Abel glanced at the both of them in anger
“Pff-“
“Oh come on!”
“Hahahaa!”
076 started mumbling swear words in Sumerian under his breath, thing he always did when he was pissed
“Heyyyy- language-“ 9108 joked
“FUCK. OFF.”
“Ok jeeze “
“Are we going to have breakfast or not? I don’t have all day “
“Fine mr grumpy” she rolled her eyes “ Dex would you like to join?”
Dex nodded happily “Ofc!”he then stopped a second and proceeded to look around “Where’s Cain?”
Silence
Abel and Frost stared at each other.
“He went to help Doctor Glass” Frost responded, and then hesitantly continued with “And- well - he was weird this morning”
Dex started at her confused
“I’ll explain everything, but in the meantime let’s head to the canteen” continued 9108
“Ok” he obliged a bit anxiously
~
“Ok, and with this we have finished with scp 4001’s documents ” Doctor Glass closed the file on his tablet “Which one is next? Was it 005 ? “
No response
“Cain?” Glass looked up from his tablet and at his friend, who was sitting at the other end of the desk.
Cain had his head on the table , buried in his arms. Did he fall asleep? Wait- is he shaking?
Simon stood up and approached 073. He then proceeded to gently shake him by the shoulder. Cain groaned, blinked several times until he was somewhat awake and then looked up. It took him 10 seconds to realize he had been asleep for all the cataloging of 4001’s files.
“Omg- I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to fall asleep like that “ he then apologized, with a weak voice
Doctor Glass stared at him worried. Cain was sweating and shaking, and was clearly trying to keep his eyes open to avoid falling asleep again, though he barely managed to keep them only halfway open.
“Are you ok?”
“Yeah , I’m fine”
‘-No you aren’t-‘ Thought the scientist
“Listen, we actually finished cataloging everything for today, and I thank you a lot for helping me. ” He said “But you don’t look well at all, you really should go and rest.”
Cain stared at the table for several seconds, and finally nodded. He was right. It was stupid to keep working while in that state. He proceeded to stand up and, after waving off Doctor Glass, he started heading back to his chamber.
~
Abel made his way in the corridor, trying to focus on the incoming mission, but still failed to shake off the feeling of worry. He kept on walking, trying not to think about it. Then he noticed a familiar face in the corridor, coming from the opposite direction.
Cain? He already finished cataloging ?
“Cain!”
073 raised his eyes
Abel approached him. He observed him for a second and then immediately asked
“Are you ok?”
Cain stayed quiet for a few minutes. He really did not want to worry his brother, but it was too obvious at that point that he indeed wasn’t fine.
He shook his head. No.
076 placed a hand on 073’s forehead for then commenting with “ Your burning up! How are you even standing up!?” and “I’m bringing you back to your chamber this instant!”
Cain didn’t say a word, he just nodded. He was too exhausted to do anything else other than that.
~
Upon entering the cell, Abel immediately placed his brother in bed. He then proceeded to find and hand him a thermometer.
“Well? Don’t just stare at it dumbass!” He said annoyed, sitting on the edge of the bed.
Cain glanced at Abel “Calm down, sheesh”
“Just use it idiot “
A few seconds later the thermometer beeped and 073 it handed it back to 076
“104 °F? How in the FUCK are you even still conscious?!”
Abel sighed
“What made you think it was a good idea going to work like this?!” He then yelled
“ I don’t know “
“What do you mean you don’t know?!?!”
“I- don’t know, ok? Maybe I didn’t want to worry anybody or maybe it was for another reason. I just don’t know “
“Well you just fucking worsen things. Couldn’t you just use your brain and think about it for once?! Why tf are you so -“
“....I know...... you’re right ........I’m sorry”
He lowered his head, staring at his hands, that was now squeezing tightly into fists
-Aw shit - Abel sighed again
“Hey- I didn’t mea-“
“I know. Don’t worry “
“No really I’m sor- “
“No problem “
076 grabbed him by the shoulders
“ Cain please. I really didn’t mean to yell at you like that. I was just worried”
Cain looked up at his brother
“And sometimes you should take a break from work” Abel continued “You need some time to rest , you’re not a robot for God’s sake!”
Cain nodded
“Guess you’re r-“ his sentence was roughly interrupted by a series of coughing fits and a sneeze.
“Uh- I’ll get you some tissues. You’ll need them “ 076 stood up
073 sniffled “Thank you” he replied weakly
Abel got some tissues and some cough and fever medicine , then gave the tissues to Cain, just in time for him to sneeze into one. He also handed him the medication along with a spoon
“Don’t stain the sheets with that “ he slightly smirked
Cain nodded again, this time with a weak smile

Tuvok REALLY will point to the nearest person in psychological distress, ask: “Is anyone gonna mind meld with that?” and NOT wait for answer!
#Just watched the episode where Kes ascends (I hadn't before)#Janeway: -running to try to get Kes off the ship before she tears it apart with her mind powers-#Tuvok: !!! KES!!!! Let's mind meld??? It might help???#Kes: Oh. Sure???#-they mind meld-#<- It does not seem to help literally at all#Anyway -turns to you with a crazed look in my eye- Have you ever thought about mind melding as a form of self harm#or a brand of Vulcan hypersexuality?#I do. I think about -mic feedback- sorry I think about how maybe there's a space in Tuvok's mind left behind by his wife's dormant bond#and he's filling it with these momentary and more often than not dangerous people#I also think about Tuvok has a weird number of mind conditions. The teero thing...the implanted ptsd cliff memory...the condition in endgame#the fact that he had trouble with regulating his emotions as a teenager...SOMETHING about Tuvok and his mind...#-back to previous topic- I wonder if it feels lonely to have only your thoughts in there after decades of sharing a mind with someone#and if that loneliness is manifesting itself as mind melding the first chance he gets#its not like he DOESN'T think it's an intimate thing - he says it is multiple times and YET#its like (sorry) having sex with someone you dont care about just to warm your bed...or you know - it could be. if you believe hard enough.#I love thinking too much <3#'the sex is good' by saving abel is literally a Tuvok song to me because of this VERY SPECIFIC interpretation of his character#and that sooo brave of me...#ANYWAY...Ignore this post. Thank you for reading now please fo rget it...

"Abel, huh..."
At least, Rirune remembers he looks like... this? Just moving his hands a bit, trying out the voice...
... It's really been a while. He has to wonder, how he's doing? Did he manage to fulfill his wish in the human village?

auhgh. yknow how chumhandles are only words that start with GCAT. Because those are the 4 nucleotide monomers in dna. It’s a refrance. Guanine, cytosine, adenine, and thymine. The base pairs are guanine and cytosine (GC) and adenine and thymine (AT). Those are the ONLY hydrogen bonds that dna helixes can have. (So, you could never have AC, adenine bonding with cytosine, ect) and like. It physically pains me to write chumhandles with anything else than GC and AT. BECAUSE GRRR. THOSE NUCLEOTIDE MONOMERS WOULD NEVER BOND IRL. AUHGH. But it’s extremely limiting so I must make fucked up combinations … :(

Ficleting Together Start:
cw: internalized abelism as issues with therapy and mental help, injury
Jason had an imaginary friend. He hadn't always. He wasn't like most children who had one when they were just learning to understand the world around them. He hadn't even had one on the streets when he was so desperately lonely for anyone to offer him kindness. No, Jason hadn't had one until he had become Robin— until he had become magic.
He didn't actually think his friend was so imaginary.
Bruce and Dick did, though. It was actually the first conversation that they had that didn’t end in shouting in months. Jason had listened to the whole thing through a vent on the other side of Bruce’s study. There were concerns of him regressing. Apparently it was something that could happen to traumatized— and fuck he hated that word, traumatized— children when they finally got somewhere safe.
Dick thought Jason would benefit from therapy. Worse, Bruce agreed. It turned out that went Jason took part in the shouting match it could be so much worse.
“I’m not crazy! I don’t need to see a fucking therapist!” Jason screamed.
He wasn’t helping his case, he knew that. But he wasn’t crazy! They couldn’t lock him up. He wasn’t crazy. It already felt like he was locked up. The study felt suddenly small. The lights too bright. The furniture too big. Bruce and Dick were too big.
“Jay-lad, that’s not what we’re saying,” Bruce tried.
“I’m not talking any pills!”
“No one is talking pills, Jay,” Dick said. He stepped forward, reaching a hand out.
It would be comforting. Jason knew that. Dick’s touch was always comforting.
He gave great hugs.
He wasn’t like—
Jason ran.
Jason bolted out of the room and past Alfred and out the door and into the woods that surrounded Wayne Manor. He ran past trees and shrubs and rocks that all looked the same. He ran until his legs were burning and he couldn’t catch his breath and—
The dirt, damp from the fall rainstorms gave under Jason’s feet. For a moment he was standing on nothing. It felt just like when Bruce had said that he had arranged a therapist for Jason. It felt like his world had fallen out from under him. And then Jason was falling, tumbling down the rock face that up the small hillside that Jason had been running along.
He screamed as something in his leg snapped, the noise was cut short as his head bounced against the rock and snapped his jaw closed. Even when he stopped rolling, the world swam around him. Jason closed his eyes and tried to stop himself from hurling. It was close. Jason lost time counting his breaths through the pain.
And then they were there.
Jason knew it, he always knew it.
It’s why he didn’t think they were imaginary.
He couldn’t help the sob that ripped from his throat as he felt their presence settle against his side. “I’m not crazy. You’re real. I know you are.”
Jason didn’t hear their response. It wasn’t like they spoke. But Jason could feel their response: a rumble of reassurance, a bubble of wry humor that Jason didn’t understand, and an undercurrent of worry.
“I’ll be okay,” Jason said. It had started to get dark. When had it started to get dark? “I’ll be okay.”
A cold sensation pressed against his brow.
He could close his eyes for a little longer.
He’d be okay.
“Jason! Oh god, Jason. Bruce! It’s over here! Please be alive.”
Jason whined as hand touched his neck.
Murmured Romani filled Jason’s ears as his world went black.

The voted prompts were Danny/Jason, soulmates/bond, Eldritch. This isn't going where I thought it would, but that's the fun of it! I might just tack all the parts onto this thread an not do an update thread since this shouldn't be too long (famous last words) but we'll see. I have at least two scenes that I know I want to do.
