It was obvious the twins were going to die since the moment we met them, but I wish we could've given them a hug before leaving the Olympus lostbelt.

the mystery of olympus' CE is so fun because at first, i was like "oh, maybe they team up with kirsch" and then i was like "oh, no, guda just wishes that were the case since kirsch would complete the group", and the important thing to note is that i thought they actually had the party and that it was europa making them dinner
then musashi died and somehow i didn't make the connection that it's basically everyone they lost in the lostbelt because again, i thought it was referencing europa's party
so when the final node of the last chapter hit me in the back of the head with a resounding yes but actually no, i cried
as if atlantis wasn't enough

THIS ART SO VILE TO MY HEART now i want exit 8 game of fgo. guda encounters every single one of the people they met in the lostbelts as well as da vinci and especially in the final loop, they see a certain doctor himself.
but there are words that they see on a sign as soon as they are at "exit 8"
"Don't overlook any anomalies." "If you find anomalies, turn around immediately." "If you don't find anomalies, do not turn back."
can you? can you turn your back on all the people you murdered? go left, go right. go straight. you see patxi waiting for you at the end of the hallway. you turn back. there is mash. you feel relief. you go back. go left go right go straight ahed. you see the crypters in casual clothes coming home from a visit to an amusement park. you see macarios and adele going home from extracurriculars. you see a father and daughter along with a dog walking home. they greet you and invite you into their home. their names. asha. ajay. vihan. go back. turn back. oh. mors. a flood. of curses. of cernunnos' hands. go back go back. turn back. you see kadoc telling you to go forwards the coast is clear for now. he disappears. you follow his advice. you move forward again. again. no signs of anomalies for the past minute, hour, day, month, year, decade. you dont stop running forward. but your legs give out on you. how long will this last? how long will this take? its too hard but they still need you. as long as they need you, you can never rest. you can never rest. you can never be dead unless there is someone who still needs you. unless there can someone be saved. youare exhausted but even so. oh. even so. at the end of the hallway, a woman greets you. her smile familiar. her greeting and cheer as warm as her. red, blue, brown, with a staff and a gauntlet- you turn back. no anomalies. you forge on ahead and
you. see. him.
oh. he is smiling at you softly. just like he did as he cupped your cheek. after he raised his hands for the rings to end the fight.
"Sorry, but you might have to turn back for a bit." His sheepish smile is accompanied with a shy rub of his nape. "After this, there are stairs you can take to escape. Take care, alright?"
....he didnt even try to tempt you to go forward with him. oh. oh.
there is. something in your eyes. oh you dont know how to feel or even say. but you nod and turn around. every inch of your muscles screaming at you for betrayal and when you wake up. you are safe. you are alive. you are back at chaldea

Hello! Can you rank the lostbelts from best to worst? I thought your interpretations of the lostbelts were interesting so I want to know!
(・o・)
Well. Wasn't expecting this ask with the upcoming dawn of LB7 on FGO NA. Thank you for the interest, Anon!
If you are referring to the canon/original versions of the Lostbelts then, though, Anon, please strap in and get ready for a long list. Opinionated, at that. So be forewarned, this is my opinion, and thus I am entitled to it.
Starting from my personal favorite, then going down to end at what I feel is absolute dogshit.
Only excluding LB7 at the moment because of it not being out in NA at the time of this post (12/3/2024) and I have some negative bias already in how it took some of my closest friends out of FGO permanently with its white-washing and writing. Not happy about that.
--------------------------
Avalon le Fae/Lostbelt 6. I loved every bit of it, even the frustrating parts with all the faeries, and writing for it was great.
Heian-kyo/Lostbelt 5.5. For a stealth sequel to Shimosa, Kintoki, Sei, Katou Danzo, Murasaki, and Raikou just stole the show for me. Beating Douman was amazing too.
Yugakshetra/Lostbelt 4. Pepe, Rama, Karna, and Jinako all carried. Pepe and Rama especially.
Imaginary Scramble/Lostbelt 4.5, even if not officially in title. For an event meant to properly give spotlight to Nemo and Van Gogh - I loved all of it. Kinda wish it was its own Lostbelt-event and not an interlude sort of thing.
Traum/Lostbelt 6.5. Only because of Charlemagne, Holmes, Astolfo, Salome, and so many others keeping the story up. Ruler Moriarty was what brought it down so low for me.
Ooku/Lostbelt 3.5. I still appreciate the event a lot for how it introduced me to Kama and let me get to know some of my closest friends better, but Parvati and others could've been covered better.
Atlantis/Lostbelt 5.1. The Neo Argonauts and Drake were the only things keeping me invested. Wodime made me want to castrate him. And we all know how that turned out in Passing Days.
Anastasia/Lostbelt 1. It's only here and not lower because of Billy, Beowulf, Patxi, and Atalante. Oh, and beating Kadoc's face in. I wanted to punch him in the nose and then some.
Olympus/Lostbelt 5.2. Adele and Macarios, as well as Musashi were the only characters I cared for. The Greek Gods just made me sad, and I wrote Musashi's entire arc the way I did in Passing Days just from being so angry at her Heroic Sacrifice to Chaos. Also. I wanted to kill Wodime. HARD. Beryl just beat me to it. Hell, I'm tearing up from frustration just remembering it and the fans who tried to get into my review box to try and change my opinion on him.
SIN/Lostbelt 3. Didn't really like this one that much outside of Lan Ling, the Chaldean field team in Mordred, Nezha, and Spartacus (really wasn't expecting to like him, but here we are), and I found Hinako/Yu Mei-ren very detestable, to be honest. Only summoned her back in my Chaldea because her husband visited first.
Götterdämmerung/Lostbelt 2. The only thing saving this Lostbelt from being at the total bottom of the barrel is Sigurd, Brynhildr, Skadi, Sitonai/Illya, Gerda, and Napoleon. Otherwise, this was just Ophelia's giant Otome Game and I was not living for it. This is why I haven't written a chapter for it yet. She's more wishy-washy than Charlie Brown, and I grew up with the kid.
Tunguska Sanctuary. I hated every bit of it. Nikitch and Taigong and Habetrot (along with Mash, as a given) were the only things keeping me from throwing my phone away in anger at Koyanskaya, and when U-Olga showed up in the ending, I was playing on New Year's Eve and had to get hugged by two friends and my partner to help calm down. Because the Decisive Battle Uniform was just a band-aid to my frustration with Nasu pulling yet another angst/bitter whip on an already loaded arc I wasn't happy with when Koyanskaya essentially got off scot free. It is why I only briefly touched on it in Passing Days proper, because there, she's on a nuke of death to who knows where. THAT'S IT.
...ಠ▃ಠ
Huff.
Okay. To bed with me now. Because ending on the worst bit made my nose run.
To Anon - I hope this sufficiently answers your question otherwise.
#vy says something#ask#asks#anonymous#cosmos in the lostbelt#opinions#writer thoughts#fate grand order#there's good and then there's bad#i say it can get bad when i'm actually close to tearing up in real life from anger#and the things at the bottom really did push that#mostly unedited

Recently finished fgo’s olympus so here are some bleary unorganized thoughts on it and my frustrations before i drift off to sleep
i think my biggest problem with olympus is that it over promises.
I think that the set up is amazing. Not referring to atlantis, though atlantis was great as everyone and their mother has said, but the whole sequence of a) entering olympus and b) exploring olympus is incredible. I think its one of the peak examples of fgo constantly being able to make you feel like their are Actual stakes in the narrative despite you as a player knowing that the tree will inevitably be cut and you’ll see the cosmos denied screen flash by again. Running through the city
Hell, Demeter’s entire entrance was bone chilling. I think she has the best mech design of the olympus gods in my biased opinion, and seeing her drop down before the animated screech she lets out that destroys the city was incredible. Truly the first time i saw it i went Holy Shit.
Then… i wont say the lostbelt flops after that but there were a few key areas that it left me wanting.
Personal preference out of the way, ill say the constant deus ex machinas - whether it be for the good guys or the bad guys (if the bad guy has a deus ex machina, is it called that?? Anyway) - started to get a little irritating after a while. The stakes were so, so high at the start, and demeters victory felt so barely clawed for with so many bits and pieces coming together that certain other fights felt like. “Well, okay then.” The twins revealing caligula and then saying “we didnt wanna say we had him for dramatic effect!” was really eye roll worthy, for example, and to be honest i dont really understand how we were able to shmoove our way out of aphrodites mind control hellscape, which was annoying after again i loved demeters fight So much
ill note there that these are things that didnt work for ME, in MY OPINION im sure other people feel other ways about it and i am happy for them for it :]
I think that parts of the lostbelt felt… rushed, and i didnt feel like the power scaling of chaldea matched narratively. With how much trouble we had for a single fighter at the start, i felt like in universe things got too easy with too little justification.
I was really disappointed with dioscuris writing, and also weirded out by the fact that there were twin humans and twin gods but very little was drawn about their connection…?? I was so certain that they would have some sort of relationship, or at least a cool narrative foil, but all we got was the twin humans hating the dioscuri because they killed their friends, and a cheap line about adele criticizing the girl twin for always following what her brother said.
I feel mixed about chaos, because in the moment i was emotionally moved but in retrospect it feels like a bit of a cheap non-foreshadowed reason for musashi to die epicly. Though maybe it was foreshadowed and i missed it; ill have to reread, but for now it just feels Too out of the blue to feel good.
But i think the thing that i think i disliked the most was “actually zeus was going to fuck off in the end and abandon the humans here letting them die so this lostbelt was evil from the start and gudako is objevtively right for this”
And like. Thats so AGGRAVATING for the lostbelt that was drummed up to be the one that would give us the most trouble, the lostbelt that was supposed to be the model one.
What i really wanted out of this lostbelt was a lostbelt that was objectively better than earth. That really? The only reason we could justify destroying it was for our own survival. Not because the lostbelt was in some way flawed, but because we have no other choice. With how sickly killing the first lostbelt felt, i really wanted lostbelt 5 to blow me out of the park with the emotional weight of killing a world and it just. didnt even try. It threw in some half assed line about why this lostbelt was well and truly evil
Which like! Honestly if it had been done well enough i couldve been fine with, couldve been happy with. But the twist that zeus actually was going to fuck off? That chaos was going to destroy all the humans anyway?? That zeus brainwashed the other gods to his side anyway????? I felt zero sympathy in destroying this lostbelt and i wanted to, SO badly
And i am All Here for a more in depth take on how humans have twisted robots into gods. How these ronots thought they could love humans but didnt hold the capacity for it!!! Honestly that concept is super cool!! I liked it!!! But like. The way it was delivered left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted to care more about the tragedy it had wrought.
I wish that zeus’ defeat was something like… in attempting to defeat zeus, chaldea accidentally/maybe on purpose? Endangers the people of olympus. And through the motions of protecting them, zeus burns and falls to ruin. And as he lays there, he realizes that as much as he wants to care for these people hes protecting, he doesnt. And hes dying for what he feels is nothing.
If i put more thought to it i could come up with more ways the god plotline couldve been bettered on. But like. A third act twist where the reader is reassured that this lostbelt is undeniably evil is really one of the worst options they couldve taken at that point. Basically everything else i can forgive but that felt really sour in my mouth
And finally . I loved kirschtania and caenis i did cry. I could say more on them but itd be fairly incoherent especially when im this tired. Just know that i really really like them

I feel like this is part of why Arknights works though. Generally speaking, these sort of serialized soshage love to spin their wheels, and it makes most of the side-content just suck ass. They're largely separate from the actual main plot and really unstructured from the game in general. Arknights is cool because it has way more cohesion. Yeah, the seaborn and laterano and columbia are all in Some Shit, and yeah it weaves together a tapestry that can be somewhat impenetrable, but it gives it way more narrative heft. FGO for having ran for nine and a half years now with some of the most acclaimed visual novel writers of all time has managed to produce, what, maybe three stories of equaling quality to Arknights(Avalon le Fae, Nahui Mictlan, and pick your favorite of CCC/Atlantis/Ooku). And its not like Arknights hasn't done more separate things, even recently. So Long Adele is probably my single favorite story in Arknights, just this incredibly beautiful and well-structured tale that stands with the best of anything Key Visual Arts has put out, and it has basically no connection. Our dear favorite sad catgirl Jessica's event certainly built off a lot of threads, but the actual content itself is self-contained and really captured Jessica's character arc.
As to the apocalypse, I agree a bit inasmuch as Arknights has escalated a little too much, but it also hasn't really fallen into the problem of most where it lacks meaning or isn't really going anywhere. The new seaborn event and Caerula Arbor have largely wrapped up the bulk of the seaborn stuff, Lone Trail capped off a lot of the dread around Rhine Labs, we actually fucking killed the Witch King for real, the Icefields were banished to Endfield(thank god). There isn't that sense of stagnancy like in most serialized narratives of this type.
It does make it harder to get into, for sure, but I also don't know if thats strictly a bad thing. It's hand in hand with the actual gameplay of these games. Someone coming in 4 and a half years into its run is just simply going to have a harder time "catching up", as it were.
Arknights has kinda run into a problem with its long-term storytelling potential where the initial energy that made the game so cool was seeing characters with interesting hooks and then seeing those hooks get fleshed out years later. but now we've explored a lot of the main ones, and all the new operators coming out are largely associated with events, so their plots are already known. and they have largely stopped going back to explore unexplored plot hooks like Mr. Nothing or the Dreambind Castle, so it is just kinda iterating on what we've got established. It's turning slowly inwards and making it harder to jump in unless you have read Everything everything, and that's getting frustrating as somebody who has ADHD and doesn't read every event unless it REALLY compels me

Shenanigans in the Grand Order, part 495
Oh, I have a feeling we'll meet again.
Never have to fear death, huh...
Asclepius would be rolling in that briefcase if he heard about this.
... Oof.
Oh.
Gods above, how have neither of you two lose your minds?! I would have absolutely lost mine if I had to live that long, along with everyday being roughly the same!
Describing Zeus as a kindly old man in any context sounds weird to me.
SHE'S SPHERICAL
On one hand, at least one can come back. On the other hand, Jesus Fuck I don't want to imagine the pain.
Oh, I hope so.
What do you mean, it can only be fired once?!
