#Aiura x Akechi

Ok @fluffydice, sorry for the lateness on this one but as anyone following this blog for over 5 minutes probably knows, I think Aiura x Saiki x Akechi makes so much sense and it is insanely compelling to me. I've posted so much fanfic about it already and that's only like 20% of the Thoughts™ I've had about them tbh.

But when you're doing an analysis of a triad, you have to breakdown 3 different ships and also how they would work simultaneously, so I needed time to write it all up. Buckle in!

Let's talk about Saiki x Aiura first since they had the most screen time together and they're the most "canon". I was genuinely shocked to see how rare this pairing is in fandom when they're literally canonically soulmates and also actually prove it on their every interaction.

From their very first meeting, Aiura and Saiki work together flawlessly to save Yumehara's life many times in a row + the life of the truck driver. Aiura then figures out how to hang out with Saiki without having to deal with his tsundere rejection, which he can leave at any time (unlike with Teruhashi) because she knows about his powers and won't stir up trouble if he leaves. Saiki keeps allowing her to schedule 1:1 dates and is basically like "don't bother asking me, you know I'll go" about the dessert buffet date lol.

Even when they disagree and neither of them will back down, they still work wonderfully together and they both end up learning and growing from it. Saiki trusts Aiura to help him, and Aiura always agrees to help him just because she cares. That's HUGE considering how hard it is for Saiki to ask for literally anything!!

Aiura also respects Saiki's boundaries more than anyone else imo. She only joins him when he's out in public, she tries her usual heavy-handed flirting at first but quickly adjusts when she realizes he's not into it, she puts her clothes back on immediately after realizing that she misunderstood the situation, she starts asking him out instead of just joining him, she asks for a kiss and respects his "no", and she hugs him anyways because they both really need it after the stress of the day.

And Saiki responds to that, opening up more with Aiura than he has with anyone else in way less time. Aiura had under 2 years with Saiki while Saiki's core friend group had like 6 years, and yeah, she benefited some from his character growth over the past 4 years. But still, the way he banters with her shows how comfortable he is– he's more open with her than with anybody else, and not just with his annoyance like he is with Toritsuka lmao.

Also, come ON, there's just no one more deserving of an epic husband/wife local god with transformation powers than Aiura. She works so hard with her powers to help everyone and convinces Saiki to help others more and she helps him get the best outcomes for everyone. Let her get her hands on her soulmate who can make her bi dreams come true, who can give her third eye a break from constantly seeing auras and death marks, who can grow big fluffy wings to hug her with, etc etc etc!!!!! LET HER HAVE SOME FUN FFS!!

There's wayyyy more people forcing Aiura into the platonic bucket with Saiki than I've seen with Teruhashi (even though Aiura has way better chemistry with Saiki), which forces me to wonder whether it's because Aiura is more overtly sexual and "lowbrow" than Teruhashi, showing more cleavage, getting bad grades, putting stickers on her face because they're cute, showing pride in her sexual escapades. None of those make her a bad person, but a lot of people seem to think it does.

Some people more reasonably point out that if Saiki is very asexual and Aiura has a high libido then that could cause trouble for them. Well, first of all, while Saiki is pretty much obviously somewhere in the asexual and aromantic spectrum, his belief that boyfriend is the next level after best friend shows that demiromantic / demisexual is a strong possibility for him. And honestly I'd argue that whatever he has going on with Satou is at least partially sexual, though I'm not going to get into that in this already long-ass post lol.

But basically, I think there's a lot of room for a demiromantic and graysexual interpretation of Saiki and considering that Aiura has apparently stopped going out with other men for at least 2 years with no ill effects that we can see, it's quite possible that they'll be very compatible in bed after all. And if not, that's where consensual non-monogamy comes in lol. But genuinely I think that the fact that they're soulmates means that there probably aren't any major incompatibilities between them, otherwise the term would be meaningless.

So yeah, makes sense and really compelling because there's so much room for stories on how they actually got together, how they work together as their powers continue growing, and what their future looks like!

OKAY, now it's time for the Saikechi essay lol.

Actually, I don't think Saikechi needs a ton of justification, because it's kinda standard extrovert x introvert childhood friends to lovers lol. Saikechi only isn't more popular because Akechi appears for like 5 whole minutes in the undubbed second season of the anime and he was annoying for 90% of that time hsfjdlshfks rip.

But yeah, Akechi and Saiki are quite perfect together, as shown by the horse gambling episode. Akechi can see right through Saiki's tsundere facade and Akechi is extremely open about his wants and needs, which is important since Saiki can't properly understand his thoughts most of the time and is very bad at figuring that stuff out even with telepathy.

They're both some flavor of ace. Akechi offu's at Teruhashi and comments that she's the most beautiful women he's ever seen, but does not express wanting to date her, which is big ace vibes, plus he's one of the few characters that doesn't have anything to say about Aiura's boobs lol (even Teruhashi can't shut up about them). They're also similar flavors of highly intelligent + neurodivergent. Consider Akechi's analysis skills vs Saiki's ability to come up with dozens, if not hundreds of plans in extremely short notice.

Akechi is also great at making accommodations for Saiki's powers, even without knowing about all of them, and coming up with activities they can do together that will be equally fun and challenging for both of them! And I still love that it was Akechi showing Saiki what a fun low-stakes game can be like that basically repaired Kusuo's relationship with his brother (see: manga, as this was cut from the anime 😩).

It's a very nice and straightforward ship that still leaves a lot of room for fun stories. I've been dying to write a Saikechi frogboil (plotted but needs writing) just because Akechi would be so perfect at it and he would be very likely to approach Saiki that way to get around all the tsundere bullshit lol.

OKAY, now for the third leg of the triangle lol, Aiura and Akechi!!

Let's be real, Akechi and Aiura only share 5 moments on screen: the intro with all the chibis, when Aiura checks out his aura, when Aiura & Toritsuka kidnap him, the competition to find Saiki's hanky, and Akechi pestering Aiura about dress code violations in the every-character-appears episode. And 3 of those scenes are from the same chapter lmao.

Actually I think this ⬆️ scene is kinda cute because Akechi's teasing Aiura lol, I think he's being friendly in his little freak way <3

HOWEVER, if shipping was only about what we saw on screen, then it would be way more boring. So let's think about it!

Aiura and Akechi actually share a lot of similarities: they're both extroverts, they're both incomprehensible, they are both almost immune to lies, they have both have a drive to help other people including strangers, and they're both seeking someone who will love and understand them as they are.

They would just make a really great fit! Akechi could help with Aiura's fortune-telling by prompting better questions for her to ask, and Aiura might actually make Akechi's mystery-solving TOO easy, so she probably holds back on that one lol. Akechi would throw himself wholeheartedly into working against a death mark on a stranger.

They're so fun to think about too because neither of them is embarrassed easily at all and they're both completely in touch with their own feelings so they are going to be SO lovey-dovey, no matter how cringe it seems on the outside lmao.

Akechi seems like he'd love doing traditional courtship if given half the chance, and Aiura seems like she's mostly had one-night-stand kind of situations until now, so what a perfect opportunity to indulge! What a change for Aiura to date someone who respects her and isn't just after her body! What a change for Akechi to date someone who actually wants to hear what he has to say and isn't put off by his frankness around taboo topics!

They'd pick up phrases from each other and develop so many ridiculous in-jokes that become their own sort of language, which makes them both even more incomprehensible.

We do also run into the allosexual x asexual problem here but Akechi is so unbothered by bodily functions and so quick to find compromises and enrichment that I genuinely think he'd kind of turn that into a game lmao.

And I think Akechi would be down to start a family and give his kid(s) the kind of loving home he never really got to enjoy with his parents' ongoing domestic turmoil. And their kid(s) would be sooooooooo incomprehensible, bless. 🙏🏾 Raised by 1.5 psychic parents and sprinkling both terminally online lingo and academia-level terminology into their speech from day 1. Imagine...

So Aikechi definitely gets the A+ on making sense and being compelling here!

Which FINALLY brings us back around to the main question... Does Aiura x Saiki x Akechi make sense, and is it compelling?

Well, obviously I think so, since I've posted so much about it lol.

I think the main question for the viability of this ship is whether Saiki would be comfortable with polyamory, since Aiura and Akechi are unconcerned enough with social norms that they'd probably have no problem with it.

After some time getting used to the thought that he will never have the veneer of normal he's always wanted to project and that the pleasures of living authentically far outweigh the pains of being different, I think Saiki would actually love having his best friends as lovers and not having to choose only one person.

After all, most of his struggle is about lack of connection and his alienation from humanity. Well, here are Akechi and Aiura, who respectively mirror his lonely childhood and growing up with uncontrollable powers. They're both clever enough to see through his tsundere bullshit, they're both happy and able to help him with his powers & duties to save others, and they will both stand up to him if he's wrong or letting something slide to avoid conflict.

They're both perfect for him! And Akechi and Aiura would be much happier sharing him than trying to make him choose between them since they also get along so well. And let's be real, Saiki definitely deserves to be loved by the two people who know him the best. 💜

There's also a lot of story potential for how this ends up happening. In Extra Love Stories of Psychics, Saikechi and Saiura are basically happening in parallel and the Aikechi will close in the loop in a few chapters. But in Didn't see this one coming, I wanted to focus on Aikechi, so they get together and are basically ready for Saiki to finish his character growth and join whenever lmao.

You could also have them as like a hero team of lovers if you want more action-y plots, though tbh it's really hard to come up with situations they wouldn't immediately solve lol rip.

Another nice thing about Aiura, Akechi and Saiki being together is that Aiura and Akechi get a chance to help each other overcome some of Saiki's limitations, and the stuff they can't work around, Akechi and Aiura can do together.

An easy example is hand-holding. Changing Saiki's gloves to another texture is all well and good but sometimes you want to touch skin to skin, and it's much more overwhelming than calming for Saiki to do that. Akechi and Aiura can hold each other's hands without gloves though, and while it's not the same as holding Saiki's, it helps a lot to fulfill that desire.

Also, it's almost impossible for Aiura to surprise Saiki because he can read her thoughts, but while Akechi can probably figure out that she's planning something in general, she would have a much easier time surprising him. And similarly, since Saiki can't properly read Akechi's mind and doesn't have too much emotional intelligence, Akechi has to openly communicate his needs with Saiki all the time, which isn't a problem for him. But it's really nice when Aiura can tell from his aura or from her own emotional intelligence what Akechi wants/needs without having to explain himself. And even if Saiki can literally hear Aiura's thoughts, Akechi is still better at responding to her feelings because he's not tsundere and he actually understands feelings and what to do about them.

Additionally, Aiura has said she wants to be a mother, and while Saiki's affection for kids indicates to me that he wouldn't mind having kids, I think that he would be VERY opposed to passing on his genes due to how much trouble his powers have caused him. And Aiura's genes also are probably loaded with psychic powers! But if Akechi is there, then he can knock up Aiura no problem since he doesn't seem to have any psychic powers, and then the three of them can have their own family <3 Plus all the shenanigans that comes with having 2.5 psychics (and maybe more!) under one roof!

In conclusion, they're perfect, your honor!!

Also I probably should've been writing more fic of them instead of writing this novel XD XD

So I have an idea that u want to write but because I’m probably never going to actually write and I need help I’m going to post it.

So it’s a MHA x Saiki k kind of thing but not really? It’s like the Saiki K characters are the past lives of some of the MHA characters.

The idea is that a quirk hits class 1-A where it brings their “past selves”, their “past live”? I don’t know how to explain it.

The characters only go back to their timeline when they have learned something from one another. Like, they can understand each other and learned something useful.

The characters that I have are these:

Todoroki and Saiki (I’m not going to explain because it’s going to be super long)

Bakugou and Kuboyasu (also not going to elaborate)

Midoriya and Kaidou (^^^)

Camie and Aiura (I don’t think I need to explain this [also, I don’t know what was Camie doing with 1-a, but she was there for some reason])

Mineta and Toritsuka (Both of them are perverts but are actually loyal and can focus when it’s important, even if they still make comments when they should not)

Hagakure and Teruhashi (they’re opposites, while teruhashi tries too many attention, Hagakure struggles to stand out. Teruhashi has a perfect pretty girl persona to make people like her, while Hagakure can do what she wants and no one is going to care)

Monoma (he was passing by and got roped into 1-A’s mess lol) and Saiko (Act arrogant, because of two very different reasons, but still care about their friends)

Kirishima and Hairo (both are passionate, emotional and loyal [and red])

Uraraka and Mera (both have issues with money and do what they do to help their family)

Sero and Satou Hiroshi (both are described as plain [and because I think I’m funny])

And that’s all, I need help with Hii, Yumehara, Akechi and Nendou.

As I said before, the point is to make the characters learn something from one another. Example:

Sero and Satou are described as plain, but Sero takes it with humor, while Satou feels insecure. (HC ahead) Sero sometimes feels like an outsider in his friend group, while Satou doesn’t. They both feel like they’re easy to forget, but both on different settings. So they can help each other.

And something like that with every pair.

just a "which character would fit which role and why" type post,

spoilers for undertale

also be prepared for a really long post if/when you press keep reading, I might've had a bit too much to say about this

Kusuo could fit Frisk pretty nicely, there's this general vibe that Frisk's just being dragged through the story by the other characters. When they interact the narrator says something along the lines of "you tell [character] this" and that might be a pretty good interpretation of telepathy.

Akechi would be Chara, there's a popular theory that Chara is the narrator, Akechi played the part of narrator during the Urashima Taro play so there's that. They both speak pretty formally, Akechi also just straight up looks like Chara. That bug eyed stare and smile he usually has along with his hair cut makes him really remind me of them. Chara's very left up to interpretation so pretty much anyone could be Chara honestly.

Kusuke fits Flowey the best for sure, the whole "everything is a game" type mentality and everything. He could be warp instead of a flower, then maybe for the god of hyper death form he could be Mr K or something.

Teruhashi would either be Toriel or Mettaton. The whole having a massive fanbase thing could really easily make her Mettaton, her arrogant attitude is also pretty similar to Mettaton's. (btw this is not me hating on Teruhashi, that whole "girls are not allowed to like how they look or like attention" narrative people have is toxic) (just feel obligated to say that) I say Toriel because I'm really just not sure who else would be Toriel? Her savior complex could make it work.

I think Kuboyasu is gonna be Sans, has that general chill unless provoked type vibe you know?

Kaido would be Papyrus. This one's the most clear. Papyrus isn't delusional the same way Kaido is, but if Papyrus talked about dark reunion instead of joining the royal guard you'd have nearly the same character. Nendo as Sans would be pretty similar to how they interact in the anime, half a braincell between the two of them (it's Kaido's) Kaido and Kuboyasu being put together also just works, "sworn friends" and such.

Hairo would be Undyne, flaming passion and such.

Nendo would fit Monster Kid pretty well I think

I'd say the best fit for alphys would be Suzumiya Hii, since she acts the closest to alphys (BY THE WAY. I'm ignoring a lot of the relationships in Undertale. Alphys x Undyne is one of those, I mean Hairo x Suzumiya is a little weird.)

Yumehara is gonna be mettaton, this might seem a little out of left field but I'll explain my reasoning. A lot of this is just Mettaton's old diaries and his old house remind me of Yumehara, it's got that vibe y'know.

Mera would be Muffet, Muffet Mera. There was one post a while back that showed if you killed Muffet she dropped 0 gold. Also Mera definitely eats and hangs out with spiders just saying

Figuring out who Asgore would be is by far the hardest. I'm gonna say Matsuzaki, just the best idea I have. (btw this is one of those "ignore the relationships the role entails" things)

You know,,, I'm not sure how the monster/human dynamic would be translated here. One idea is psychics won the war against humans so like the humans are underground and the psychics fall into the mountain. This would make it so Aiura and Toritsuka could be the souls in this au (yeah only two souls). Considering that idea messes up the roles a bit though because of Kusuo Kusuke and Akechi, Kusuo and Kusuke are fine but Akechi isn't psychic I'm pretty sure.

An alternate idea for this dynamic: psychics underground humans on the surface. You could say that Kusuo was on the surface at first because he was "acting" as human. There's also that one theory that every Saiki k character is psychic, considering that makes this au a lot easier lmao

It's basically take your pick based on if you like the "everyone's psychic" theory or not

✶ . . .  SO, SAIKI, WHEN ARE YOU going to introduce me to the rest of your friends?”

You leaned against his locker as Saiki exchanged his indoor shoes for his outdoor ones. You smiled winningly at him, and the pink-haired psychic had the gall to slam his locker shut and leave. You huffed a sigh and ran to catch up to him.

Now that you and Saiki were allies, you felt like you could understand why so many people liked him. In your case, at least, it was the highlight of your day to piss him off. He was just so serious and uptight about everything. You could only do so much with your abilities without vapourizing half the planet, but Saiki seemed to have no shortage of cool powers. Why didn’t he do more with them? What kind of sap just wanted to live an average life when they were a psychic? 

If you were being honest yourself, Saiki’s frankness was refreshing. He wasn’t afraid of you or in awe of your Six Eyes. You had a healthy ego, but it was nice to talk to someone and feel at least a little normal. It made sense that the only person you could do that with was with someone whose powers rivalled your own. 

“Well I guess I already met Toritsuka and Aiura, but it’d be nice to meet them officially. I can’t figure out if Akechi is part of your group or not. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to talk to him either. I was kind of rude to him the last time—”

What do you want? Saiki snapped in your head. I might actually avoid Nendo and the others for once, and I don’t have any intention of getting caught up with you instead.

“Caught up?” you repeated coyly, smirking. “I didn’t take you for that kind of guy, Saiki.”

Please leave me alone. You torment me enough during class.

“That is impressive how you do that. You sound so pissed, but your face is completely blank. Do you play poker?”

No, because I can tell what everyone’s cards are. What do you want?

“I think they call themselves the Psychickers? Or the Psychic Kids or something? I want to meet them! They sound cool!”

Then go find them. I’m not affiliated with them whatsoever.

You slung an arm over Saiki’s shoulders and he was unable to hide his grimace. “Saiki. Your friends are my friends. They managed to figure out you’re psychic, right? I need to know whether they pose a threat to me.”

If you’re “The Strongest”, how could anyone pose a threat to you?

“Do you want me to use Blue on you again, Saiki?”

Do you want me to turn you into a statue?

“... Can you do that?”

Saiki only stared at you. Alright then. Noted.

“Please, Saiki?” you said. Six Eyes worked well as an ability, but it worked doubly well for puppy-dog eyes. “Just tell me where I can find them and I’ll get out of your hair. I won’t even tell them that you helped me.”

Saiki sighed. He stopped walking. You waited for him to say something, but he only pinched the bridge of his nose and then crossed his eyes.

You bit back a laugh. Enough time passed by that you started to wonder if this wasn’t one of Saiki’s abilities and he was just making fun of you.

You were about to poke Saiki’s cheek when his eyes snapped back into focus.

“You weren’t just making a face at me, were you—”

Saiki shoved past you and dove with the grace of an Olympic athlete into the hedges behind you. You didn’t have time to shout after him before two people nearly bowled you over. You leapt out of the way, turning off Limitless in the same instant.

“We just missed him!” Aiura shouted, gasping for breath. She was hauling Toritsuka along with her by the arm, and ignoring his snarled threats, called, “Saiki, we know you’re here! You need to help us! Something bad is going to happen!”

“Everything alright, guys?” You discreetly moved to cover Saiki’s hedge. They would find him eventually, but you said you wouldn’t snitch on him so you wouldn’t. He’d probably teleported away anyhow.

“Gojo!” Airua let go of Toritsuka and then surprised you by gripping your arms and staring into your face. Whatever she saw only made her look more determined. 

“I was right. It’s going to happen.”

“Like, between the two of us or …?”

“Toritsuka, you said Gojo’s guardian spirit has been on edge all day, right?”

Toritsuka rubbed his arm, wincing. “Yeah, but that could mean anything.”

“Show us. Hurry up, we don’t have all day.”

She slapped her hand on Toritsuka’s shoulder. You gingerly followed suit. You gaped as a beautiful woman came into view, her dark hair flowing like ink over her brocade coat. She looked at you, and then wrapped her hands around her head, drawing away in anguish.

“How long has she been following me around?” you asked, still staring at the woman. She disappeared when you took your hand off of Toritsuka’s shoulder.

“Likely your whole life. But that’s not important. What’s important is what your guardian is warning you about, and what I saw in my visions.”

“Visions?”

“Get with the program, Gojo,” Airua said, snapping her fingers in your face. “You have abilities. We have abilities. So does the idiot hiding behind the hedges. No need to hide things from each other.”

Saiki slowly rose up from the hedges, his expression unreadable.

“How do you know I have abilities?” you asked.

“How could you not? Saiki was so on edge about you that we figured.”

You simpered at Saiki. “You were on edge about me? You shouldn’t have been.”

What is it now? Breaking a nail or losing your porno rags does not count as “something bad” happening.

Aiura and Toritsuka both sniffed indignantly and then glared at each other. 

“Differing values aside,” Aiura said. “We wouldn’t have gone looking for you unless it was something big.” She pointed at you. “A kidnapping is going to happen and you have to stop it.”

“Come again?”

Aiura threw his hands into the air. “There’s going to be this little kid who gets hauled off by this enormous, homeless brute! He throws Toritsuka aside and then starts on Saiki! You’re the only one who can stop him!”

You raised an eyebrow at Aiura. “And you know this, how?”

“Premonition. I can anticipate when something bad happens.”

“Ooh, does that mean you can tell my future?”

“Did you not hear anything I just told you?” Aiura cuffed you on the back of the head and you swore. “We need to stop that kidnapping!”

Good luck with that. I’m going home.

“Amazing plan. Me too,” Toritsuka said. He linked his arm through Saiki’s and the two began marching off.

“You’re integral to this plan,” Airua snarled, pulling the two boys back. “You can’t just leave.”

“Why do we have to be here if we’re just gonna get beat up? You said Gojo was going to fix everything. Well, here they are.”

“If you change too much, my premonition won’t mean anything. We’re all going to the park. Now.” She started hauling Toritsuka by the arm again and he whined, batting at her to release him.

Bemused, you trailed after them. Saiki did too, surprisingly.

Is Aiura serious about these premonitions?

She hasn’t been wrong before. She’s not one to step aside and let things happen either.

So what, did you summon these two by crossing your eyes?

No. My clairvoyance told me they were coming.

Clairvoyance? That’s actually cool.

Saiki side-eyed you. I wanted to go home. 

You don’t want to be a hero?

I’ve gotten more than enough of that from Hairo.

Once you got to the park, you all spread out to look for a kid who looked like they might get kidnapped.

So, Aiura can tell the future. What does Toritsuka do?

He’s a spirit medium, although that’s being generous.

So he can see ghosts all the time? That must be a pain in the ass.

Toritsuka is the pain in the ass. You wouldn’t believe the things he’s done after summoning spirits.

“Say, Aiura, don’t you think we kind of look like creeps lurking around here?” you asked, plopping down on a bench. Saiki joined you, letting out a tired sigh. A lot of the parents had discreetly pulled their children elsewhere, casting suspicious looks at Toritsuka.

“That kid should be here,” she muttered, putting her hands on her hips. “Toritsuka, why don’t you ask one of your spirits where he is?”

“Why don’t you just use your crystal ball?”

“It doesn’t work like that.”

“Well, neither do my spirits.”

“How would you know? All you use them for is for finding out what colour panties girls wear.”

“Do not.”

“Do too.”

“Not.”

“Too.”

“They’re like an old married couple,” you snickered. You linked your hands behind your head and leaned back, only to yelp with surprise when someone poked your back.

“I’m sorry to bother you, sir, but have you seen my dad?”

The kid behind you couldn’t have been more than five or six. He was wearing a baggy t-shirt and a humongous backpack, his hair sticking up in jagged black spikes. You couldn’t help thinking that he looked awfully tired for a kid. 

“Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were blind.”

You pulled down your glasses. “Blind? Who said I’m—”

“I’m sorry for bothering your grandpa,” the kid said to Saiki. “Have you seen my dad?”

“Who are you calling grandpa?!”

“You have white hair and you’re blind,” the kid said matter-of-factly.

“I’m still in high-school—”

“My dad has black hair and a scar right here.” The kid drew a thumb down the corner of his mouth. “He’s pretty big. Kind of scary-looking. Have you seen him?”

Saiki shook his head. The kid sighed, reshouldered his backpack, and moved off.

“Hey, kid! What’s your name?” you demanded, standing up.

The kid looked over his shoulder. “Dad said I shouldn’t talk to strangers.”

“Well, your dad should have told you not to call people ‘grandpa’, either.” 

Saiki shot you a look. You tried to swallow down your annoyance.

“Sorry. What I meant was, we can help you find your dad. I’m Gojo, and he’s Saiki. What’s your name?”

The kid looked down at his shoes. 

“My name is Megumi.”

“Isn’t that a girl’s name?”

Saiki and Megumi both glared at you. You raised your hands. “Alright, sorry. It’s nice to meet you, Megumi. The best way to do this is probably if you stay here while we try to find your dad. Would you be alright with staying with our other two friends? If we can’t find your dad, then we’ll take you to the police station and go from there.”

Megumi shrugged. “My dad didn’t go far, though. I think he’s at the store near here.”

Still, you rounded up Toritsuka and Aiura, the latter of which nearly shouted Toritsuka’s ear off upon seeing Megumi.

“It’s you!” she squealed, swinging Megumi around. “You’re the one from my vision! Aren’t you just adorable?”

“Put me down, lady,” Megumi grumbled. “You’re hurting me.”

Aiura set him down, ruffling his hair. You almost protested. His hair was already atrocious enough.

“What’s your dad’s name, Megumi?” you asked.

It took the kid a minute to remember. “Fushiguro Toji. He can be kinda scary. A lot of people run away from him.”

You scoffed. Like you were going to be scared of a middle-aged officer worker. “It takes a lot to scare me.”

“Sure, grandpa.”

Aiura interrupted before you could slap Megumi upside the head. 

“Listen, you two,” she said, drawing up between you and Saiki. “Be careful, alright? You could both be really hurt if things go wrong. We’ll keep Megumi safe on our end, but keep your eyes out for that homeless guy, alright? He’s big, strong, and won’t hesitate to kick your ass.”

“We’ve got this, Aiura. We’ll find Megumi’s dad no problem.”

“My premonitions have never been wrong before, but maybe this time will be the exception.” The serious look on Airua’s face lifted and she cocked a salute at you, winking. “Alright, good luck!”

You and Saiki went to the convenience store across the street. Truthfully, you weren’t worried about Megumi. Rudeness aside, he seemed like he had his head on straight, and if he wasn’t worried about his dad, you wouldn’t be either. Aiura was probably overreacting. You’d find Toji, return his kid, and no one would get kidnapped. Just another Tuesday afternoon.

You think Toji-san is gonna have the same bed head as his kid?

I think we don’t even know what he looks like. Not all parents look like their children.

You made a beeline towards the sweets aisle.

What are you doing?

I’m hungry. I haven’t had my after-school snack. Do you want something?

What about Fushiguro-san?

He can wait.

You slid your glasses into your hair and frowned. Hm, no coffee jelly today. That’s a shame. Cake roll it is, then.

You grabbed a few and then made your way to the register.

… Do you like coffee jelly?

Of course. It’s an elite snack. I can never find it, though.

Yes, I suppose it is.

You scanned the store as the cashier rang up your items. The cute cashier, who you winked at. A few students. An actual grandpa. In the back of the store, near the drinks, was a tired-looking office worker, rubbing a hand over his jaw as he perused his options.

That’s probably him right there. You thanked the cashier and threw a cake roll at Saiki before ripping one of them open. We’ll let him grab his drink, and then we can prepare for the tearful reunion. Biting into the roll, you nodded to yourself, then grinned. Strawberry. Score.

When you looked back, there was a dark look on Saiki’s face.

You good? Do you not like cake rolls?

Aiura was right when she said her premonitions are never wrong. This feels too easy. 

She probably misinterpreted it. 

It was like Saiki heard something you couldn’t. His head whipped around, and he stared outside of the convenience store, his mouth opening slightly.

Hey, what—

There was a low boom. A plume of dust rose from a distance away … right around where the park was.

You swallowed your bite of cake. “Oh shit.”
