author’s note: this fic is kinda self indulgent. i have chronic fatigue so.... yeah. i just wanna sit in the common room with shinsou and chill 😭

Your quirk takes up a lot of your energy. When you were younger, you avoided using it unless absolutely necessary- simply because of the wave of exhaustion that came with using it. 

Recently, though, you’ve been getting much better with control. The practical lessons that Aizawa conducts are horribly exhausting, but they help to build up your endurance. Before long, you find yourself forgetting about your fatigue. 

At least, until today. Today has been hell, to put it lightly. You’re about two seconds away from collapsing on the floor and never waking up. If your classmates notice this, they don’t comment on it- instead bringing you water and snacks like the angels they are. Even their concern can’t bring you out of your exhaustion, though. 

When you finally get into bed that night, you’re unsurprised to find that you can’t fall asleep. You desperately want to, of course, but your thoughts are too loud for you to relax. You stare up at the ceiling for a moment before getting out of bed and putting your slippers on. 

You’re kind of hungry, for some reason. You walk into the kitchen and open the pantry, looking for something that can serve as a light snack. You’re just about to grab something when a voice interrupts you. 

“Hey.” You flinch and turn around, only to find Shinsou staring at you from the couch. You breathe a sigh of relief. “Holy shit, you scared me.” 

“Sorry,” Shinsou remarks wryly, turning his body to face you. His arm rests on the back of the couch. He looks about as tired as always- dark circles under his eyes and a pull to his lips. His gaze doesn’t stray from your face, funnily enough. “What are you doing up?”

“Same as you, I suppose,” you respond, grabbing a glass of water and taking a sip. You linger by the counter for a few seconds before moving to sit next to Shinsou on the couch. “Couldn’t sleep.” Shinsou gives a sympathetic nod at that. For a while, silence stretches across the space. Somehow, it’s not awkward, though. 

“Oh, shit,” you blurt out, your eyes widening as you get an idea. Your excitement must show on your face, because Shinsou raises his eyebrows and waits for you to continue. You grin. “You could brainwash me.”

“Absolutely not,” Shinsou replies immediately, his gaze flitting to the wall behind you. His expression seems to have darkened all of a sudden. It’s as if the energy was suddenly sucked out of him. You wonder if you said something wrong. 

“Aw, come on,” you continue, holding your hands up and interlacing your fingers in a pleading gesture. “Please?”

“You’d trust me to brainwash you?” Shinsou’s voice is laced with distrust, suspicion, and a little bit of... disbelief. You nod at his question, squinting at him in confusion. Why does he seem so surprised at that? Perhaps he isn’t used to earning people’s trust so easily. You raise an eyebrow at him, watching as he stares at the ground. He must feel your eyes on him, because he sighs loudly. 

“Fine,” Shinsou rolls his eyes, adjusting his position and sitting up straighter. “There’s no guarantee this will work,”

“Doesn’t hurt to try,” you shrug. Shinsou moves closer to you and stares at you. For a long moment, the two of you are staring at each other in silence. It’s an intense feeling, but it’s not entirely uncomfortable. 

“Walk into your bedroom and go to sleep for the night,” Shinsou orders, his purple eyes glowing for the briefest of moments. You blink as his voice reverberates around your skull. For a long moment, nothing happens. Just as you’re about to sigh, you feel your body begin to move towards your room upstairs. When you return to your room, you get back into bed and fall asleep.

For the first time in years, you wake up feeling refreshed. You scramble through your morning routine, anxious to see Shinsou. Ten minutes later, you’re nearly running to the classroom. For some reason, Shinsou doesn’t arrive until a few seconds before the bell. You miss the chance to talk to him then, instead deigning to smile at him gratefully. He breaks eye contact with you and turns to the side. You squint at him, noticing his cheeks are slightly pink. Filing that observation to the back of your mind, you return your attention to class. 

“Thanks for... trusting me,” Shinsou remarks, sometime later when the two of you are walking down the halls. You glance at him and smile exasperatedly. 

“No need to thank me,” you wave his gratitude off. “After all, trusting you was rather easy.” The half-smile on Shinsou’s face doesn’t fade for the rest of the day.

so, my main hcs about aizawa:

• pronouns are it/they. ("he" is acceptable in unfriendly environment)

• it is nonbinary trans (agender) because they doesn't understand the idea of gender.

• autistic. that is why it is so sensitive to logic, rationality and rules. in addition, their clothes look very soft and spacious (like a sensory paradise), and aizawa literally sleeps in public in a bright yellow sleeping bag (if you have any questions about their understanding of social norms).

● has did (dissociative identity disorder), ocd and avpd.

• aroace & queerplatonic gay. also polyamorous.

• has physical disabilities. specifically, congenital heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis & me/cfs. the main symptoms are chronic fatigue and chronic pain (look in my eyes and tell me that aizawa is not experiencing chronic fatigue and pain). no, it will not be normative on any point. /hj

• its special interest in childhood became quirks, so they spent hours studying the open state register of quirks. many years later, it is still: a) interested in quirks and the principles of their work; b) remembers descriptions of some quirks by heart along with registration numbers.

He has to take a lot of meds. Some for sleep to help with his nightmares, some for chronic nausea, some for fatigue. The meds leave him really weak and nauseous as side affects as well as really sleepy. Mr Aizawa usually tries to comfort him or help him take the meds.

Can I get some aizawa comfort for an SO who has a chronic illness and chronic pain? Like some nights the pain is so bad they can’t sleep for more than 2 hours before their pain wakes them up again. I haven’t had a real nights sleep in over a week and the fatigue is making things worse 😭😭😭

He does all he can think of to make you more comfortable

Pillows? Pain killers? Soft music? Messages?

If you're having a really hard time sleeping he'll stay up with you all night because he just can't sleep knowing you're in pain

If its really bad for too long he takes you to the hospital

You have to get more then two hours of sleep

The most recent arc of the manga has been Traumatic for the students in a lot of ways, and I think it would be very fun if in the aftermath, the teachers were required to conduct some sort of self care class to help the students cope with trauma and other physical/mental difficulties associated with hero life. 

Except all of the teachers at UA are a bunch of millennials who were Also never given any advice on how to cope with hero life so its just a showcase of all of UA High’s Most Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms

Aizawa’s “Dealing With Chronic Pain and Fatigue” seminar, where he’s basically like “yeah your entire body will sometimes be in terrible pain for extended periods of time so here’s my favorite brand of heating pad.” There’s just a whole slide that says “Don’t get addicted to narcotics.” When one of the kids asks about taking time off for injuries he just stares them down and moves on.

All Might’s class on handling the immense responsibility of being a hero where he’s like “Some days, you’ll feel like you physically can’t push your body to do the things that your work demands of you. On those days, I like to remind myself that my body is not my own. It belongs to the public, so it is has to be able to do whatever the public requires of it.” And there’s just No self awareness whatsoever.

Midnight’s “Dealing With Harassment and Objectification” where she’s like “ladies, men Will shout degrading things at you in the streets. My solution was to make myself seem so sexually aggressive that they became too intimidated by me to try anything. Anyway, one time Mt. Lady had to go to a disciplinary hearing because she punched a guy who groped her.” And there’s a whole section about how to avoid marketing deals that are too skeevy.

Present Mic’s “Time and Stress Management” class where he’s like “find a coping mechanism that works for you! I like to go out to a secluded area and scream until my lungs are hoarse! One time back when I first started, I was so busy with my hero work that I didn’t sleep for 4 days straight, so Midnight came over and put me into a chemically induced coma for 48 hours. It’s important to rely on your friends!” with a healthy dose of Never let the public see you without your Hero Persona.

Special Guest Rock Lock on “Balancing Work and Family Life” which starts out as him optimistically encouraging students to start a family while working as a hero if that’s what they want to do and ends with him tearing up bc he’s missed most of his son’s important milestones and he’s terrified that he’ll die before he can see his son grow up

Izuku Couple Ranking

1. TodoDeku - Narrative foils! He’ll listen to him and respects his strategy's, doesn’t just dismiss them as ramblings. Deku would give Shoto unrequited love from the GET GO like he DESERVES! Team daddy issues.

2. Bakugo/Izuku/Kiri - Look Kiri and Bakugo are end game and Kiri is just really sweet and I think he could really balance them and make the whole situation happier and healthier and I think he’d like how open Deku is with his feelings.

3. Todoroki/Deku/Bakugo - THE power couple. They’d be A LOT though.

4. Bakudeku - Enemies to friends to lovers is just a jam tbh. It has to go this way not just enemies to lovers because otherwise I feel like it would be too unhealthy. Enemies to lovers is fun because theirs mutual feelings and banter but Deku is putting too much work into this friendship and Bakugo is resisting too hard to make skipping the friendship step healthy. I feel like he’d be good at making Deku look after himself and get out of spirals. Also, to project onto a fictional character for a second, I feel like Deku gets into anxiety spirals where he is trapped in his own brain for so long thinking about a problem that his logic gets worse but he gets more and more sure that it’s the only option. And Bukugo would just come in like no Deku how the fuck did you think that was a good idea you missed the obvious good answer 10 minutes ago. He’d be a good common sense balance and Deku would soften him up. 

5. Shinso/Izuku - I feel like they both would just love and support each other so much and respect how hard they’re both trying to become heroes. They’d listen to each other. Also I love AUs where Deku remains quirkless and gets into the support course and just them being classmates and ROOMATES!!!!

6. Shoto/Uraraka/Izuku - Shoto deserves to double the cinnamon roles in his life. I feel like the three of them would cancel out any weird vibes. I think Shoto would really enjoy spoiling them and they’d be really protective of him and ready to fight his dad at any opportunity.

Ida/Uraraka/Izuku - It’s just SO soft!

7. Uraraka/Izuku - Cinnamon roles! However, women are already written so poorly in MHA that I find their whole “I talked to a boy” “I just touched a girl” five year old shit half the time more irritating than cute. Like I enjoy narrative contrast, it can be really funny and cute and grounding but to go from “I just broke all the bones in my body” to this is just too jarring for me. They’re so similar that they kind of give me sibling vibes honestly. 

Bakugo Couple Ranking

1. Him and Kirri. It’s always them. Like look at the Seamstress on tiktok and she has such amazing head-cannons about them. About Bakugo respecting Kirri’s worth and improving his self esteem like no one else could. About how Bakugo feels so comfortable and completed by Kirri in so many ways, like just Kirri doing the talking in interviews. Also they would be SO ride or die for each other. Two manly men just being icons in love. 

2.  Bakugo/Izuku/Kiri

3. Todoroki/Bakugo/Kiri. Again B and K are ENDGAME. But I think just these two people who are so full of life and passion could be a really neat fit with Shoto! Also their hair together is SO cute, how one’s cherry, one’s blonde and he’s the candy cane in-between.

Uraraka Couple Ranking

1. Her and Tsuyu! Pink and Green look super good together, they’re close to being contrasting colours. They’re smart, sweet and way more dangerous than they look. They’d be the most adorable power couple.

Momo Couple Ranking

1.Itsuka/Momo - They’re both confident women who deserve great things. I feel like Itsuka would be a very precious, protective girlfriend and Momo would defiantly spoil her any chance she got. They’d be so competent that it would be legendary.

2. Jiro/Momo. Okay to be honest I prefer them as besties but the art slaps and they would be cute. Love some prep/punk vibes.

3. Shoto/Momo: Again I feel like they would be WAY better as just friends. Especially as the men overshadow the women so much in the show that I just feel like the women deserve better than being a man’s love interest, let them just support each other. But they would be cute. Also two rich people together... ew. Eat the rich. Which is also why they kind of give off the feeling like they’re people who would say that the other is “like a brother/sister to me.” Also I feel like them together would make their parents too happy. 

Denki couple ranking

1. Denki/Shinso - I’m still not over the “No loud blondes” jokes I think they’re adorable and there's so much potential there. Also just this ray of sunshine believing in Shinso when so few have with his whole heart is PRECIOUS! I feel like they’d be really supportive of each other. And I feel like they both have very noticeable disabilities, depression and ADHD, and I feel like neither would be daunted just accepting of each other entirely. 

I like Denki just being the biggest Jiro simp better than them getting together, except...

2. Jiro/Denki/Shinso - It would be CUTE! They’d get along so well. I just love the vibes idk. Plus Denki needs all of the adult supervision he can get.

3. Deku/Denki/Shinso - Again just some good cute vibes here. I feel like after Deku has struggled so long with being quirkless he would be really supportive and encouraging with Denki getting help with learning disabilities and would be always happy to help him study. They would all be so supportive. 

Nebulous Head-cannons

Aizawa and Mic are either best friends or a long time married couple. I’m happy either way as long as they’re just each others favourite person and live together.

Grand Torino and Recovery Girl would be the cutest old couple. They’d enjoy messing with people and getting up to mischief together I think.

I’m kind of fond of Tsuyu x Sero. 

All Might’s got it going on with Izuku’s Mom

I like the idea that Kirishima is trans and gay. 

Denki, Shinsou, Midoryia, Jiro and Tsuyu are all non-binary.

I like Mina either dating around outside of school or falling for Ida. Love some nerd x cool kid vibes. 

I don’t know if I ship him with these guys but at the very least I feel like  Tokoyami has written some angsty love poetry about Aoyama and Shoji.

On a purely platonic note. Shinsou is Aizawa’s favourite student (and son) and Denki and Uraraka are Mic’s.

Aizawa has chronic fatigue and depression.

Mic, Bakugo, Mina and Denki have ADHD

Izuku has anxiety and is a bit on the ace spectrum and he’s pan. 

Denki is for sure bi.
