Thrawnius accents…

…I’m definitely a minority in not being too keen on LarsMikkelson as Thrawn—whether live action or even as voice-over animation. Not withstanding my issues with the physical appearance, the voice is too ‘slimy-creepster-hey-little kid-want some *candy*’-intonation for how I envision someone who ought to have been embodying the screen presence of TywinLannister, and that cold/ruthless/savage intensity of Aemond Targaryen (that quote from Season1–about being the Targaryen ‘who studies history-philosophy-swordcraft-etc-‘-stopping short of declaring himself heir over his bro, Aegon…yum, pure Thrawn—Legends Thrawn…)—

Anyway, I’ve always envisioned Thrawn’s appearance as a combo of Henry Cavil-Benedict Cumberbatch-and Jason Isaacs…and the voice—*meow*—ever since watching Season1 of ‘AlteredCarbon’, I can’t stop weaving the accent of Joel Kinnaman into my head-canon of Thrawn. Hell-Joel Kinnamen could even be added to the synergized actor combo of how I envision Thrawn…but that voice and accent—cultured, elegant, with an accented articulation—silk and steel depending on which side one falls…

Recensione a caldo del libro scifi The Blighted Stars di Megan E. O'Keefe

The Blighted Stars, di Megan E. O'Keefe, è un romanzo scifi inedito in italiano, primo di una serie appena iniziata intitolata The devoured worlds, che al momento non è dato sapere da quanti libri sarà composta, ma sospetto almeno tre. 

Sono sempre alla ricerca di romanzi scifi, da fan di Star Trek, e se contengono anche una storia d’amore ancora meglio e questo libro prometteva molto bene, come potete vedere dalla sua trama.

Trama: Quando una spia è bloccata su un pianeta morto con il suo nemico mortale, deve capire come sopravvivere prima di poter scoprire la cospirazione che li ha portati entrambi lì.  I pianeti abitabili vengono distrutti non appena vengono trovati e Naira Sharp ne sa il motivo. L'onnipotente famiglia Mercator controlla l'esplorazione dell'universo da decenni e sfrutta tutti i materiali che trova lungo la strada con il pretesto di aiutare l'espansione dell'umanità. Ma ora sembra che il loro sfruttamento minerario stia fecendo morire i pianeti colonizzabili e una resistenza guidata dall’ex guardia del corpo del capo della famiglia Mercator, Naira, ha deciso di fermarli. Dove le vie legali ahanno fallito riusciranno le vie anarchiche, ma il loro ultimo piano va incredibilmente storto fin dall’inizio.  In teoria Naira e altri rivoluzionari dovevano infiltrarsi sulle due navi dei Mercator incaricate di raggiungere un nuovo pianeta appena scoperto, ma Nairasi risveglia nel corpo sbagliato durante un atterraggio di emergenza e peggio ancora si ritrova sul ianeta con un solo pugno di superstiti e Traquin l’erede della famiglia Mercator, e l’uomo che ha confutato le sue accuse in tribunale.   Per sopravvivere e mantenere il suo segreto, Naira dovrà unire le forze con l'uomo che ha giurato di odiare. E insieme scopriranno una trama che è più grande di entrambi.

La sinossi mi aveva tratto in inganno sinceramente, mi ero fatta un’idea della storia molto diversa dalla realtà. Il libro non è incentrato sulla coppia, o il loro rapporto, o meglio non sono al centro della trama, solo un corollario, e nemmeno ben sviluppato sinceramente perchè da dove nasca l’attrazione tra i due proprio non si capisce. Al centro c’è un mistero da risolvere mentre si cerca di restare vivi. E’ l’azione ad essere preponderante in modalità survivor a discapito di un approfondimento dei sentimenti che ho trovato carente, ma anche di struttura narrativa del mondo creato dall’autore. Non ci viene mai spiegata bene la tecnologia su cui si basa i loro sistemi di  carico e scarico delle menti delle personi in corpi diversi o la tecnologia dei loro impianti, e sarebbe stato molto utile invece ai fini della trama sinceramente.Probabilmente l’autrice non la spiega approfonditamente perchè la tecnologia dello scambio di corpi sembra presa pari pari dal romanzo  Altered carbon  di Richard K.Morgan.  Mentre per quanto riguarda il nemico da sconfiggere che ahimè non ha molta personalità si è ispirata a Il lungo meriggio della terra di Brian Aldiss.

The rain pours in the lower parts of Bay City, puddles forming against worn pavement as you try to follow the broad Envoy through the endless crowd of people.

"Tak, please, wait up," you yell out in exasperation as you're finally able to catch up to him. Tugging on the sleeve of his sleeve, you silently beg him to just turn around, to just hear your side of the story. "Kesh, please."

Tak stops cold in his tracks, causing you to crash into his frame, his hand automatically reaching out to steady you. Despite Takeshi being known for his impassive emotions and void expressions, he slipped up, accidentally admitting to you feelings he had sworn deep down he didn't want brought up. Once he realized, he immediately left your apartment in a rush, which leads to now, him and you standing in the middle of a crowded street as the rain drenches you.

"Can we talk about this?"

"There's nothing to talk about," he replies, eyes remaining forward and not daring to look down at you, but a gentle tug on his sleeve has his hazel eyes casting downwards. Your hand looks small compared to his and he wants to reach out and hold it.

"I refuse to accept that. You said you love me. You can't just drop something like that and then leave and act like it never came out of your mouth," you throw your hands up in frustration. How long had he been feeling this way towards you? Why did he just now say it? Why is he ignoring you. A minute passes until you reach up and grab his face in-between your hands, forcing him to look at you. "Say you want me, and I'm yours."

He wants you, he truly does. He wants you more than life itself, but, he also knows that wherever he goes, trouble follows him and he doesn't want you anywhere in that crossfire. So he has to do what he has to do.

Reaching up, he grabs your wrists in his hands and drops them from his face. Is he really sure about this? He's loved you for forever, and now all he wants to do it protect you, no matter how much it'll break your heart.

"I don't want you and I don't love you." And with that, Takeshi Kovacs walks out of your life.
