Mist, the Dancing Thief

Okay, at the encouragement of several people, I figure I will share some information about my OCs. I’ll. I’ll start with the ones you will/have see(n) in Red Sky at Morning since I updated it today and it feels appropriate?

Name: Mist, the Dancing Thief

Species: Void-Poisoned Butterfly (from the ancient civilization/before Hallownest); resembles a Batwing Butterfly / Red Lacewing cross

Affiliation: The Grimm Troupe

Mask Design: Masquerade-style with a longer right side than left.

Appearance: Mist is eternally just-barely-pupated-to-butterfly. Most of the Troupe considers him a child and he does look it. He’s also naturally short and despite resembling a Batwing Butterfly, he has more red tones to his body than black. Probably closer to the Red Lacewing side than not, but the wings are shaped more like a batwing’s.

Random Trivia that is SOMEWHAT of a spoiler for Red Sky (do not read if that bothers you!)

Mist is a self-taught pickpocket

He does aerial cyr wheel performances

He's responsible for organizing and dispatching the Grimmkin in new kingdoms

He can see essence-ghosts

He's extremely sensitive to void creature presences (he can sense them from far away)

If he was not in the Troupe, he would have died of void poisoning most likely (like most of his specific tribe of butterfly has)

He shares an herb garden with Alula and has quite the green thumb

Nightshade taught him how to cook!

He only consumes liquids - not solids

He's afraid of thunder

His favorite juice is citrus. :>

Elysia: iridescent light pink feathers resembling crystals, perhaps?

Aponia: have you seen my wing design for Seele with feather patterns resembling butterfly wings? something like that but bigger, maybe. and 1-2 extra pairs

Eden: dark wings with golden tips of flight feathers and white alulae

Vill-V: wings supported by mechanisms or fully mechanised

Kalpas: black and gold feathers, most of them missing or broken

Su: peacock wings duh

Sakura: light pink wings with darker tips and brighter/whitish underside

Kosma: he already has wings

Mobius: lol quetzalcoatl. black and green iridescent feathers

Griseo: mountain bluebird? generally her wings would be short with baby blue and white feathers

Fu Hua: a goshawk's wings would fit her hair colour and valkyrie accipiter's name

Pardofelis: tawny owl-like wings with color of her fur

•Illumina has 3 main hallways, with a green room/stage that members use for meetings, and a café/lounge where other students outside Illumina can visit

•Working in the café is a sort of punishment and those who can't pay work there to get free food at the end of their shifts (aside from them, they also have " helpers ")

•Students from other dorms are always more than welcome in Illumina, as long as they don't damage the dorm

•Illumina students bring all kinds of familiars/pets with them

•Illumina students have a very "us vs. Them" mentality towards NRC, even more so than their peers

•The current dorm leader is Alula Crème, a very famous singer and icon in Twisted Wonderland. Instead of vices, there are 5 Guardians who help the dorm leader

•Dorm uniform:

❥the parts in light blue can be changed in shape, color and size. Aside from that nothing can be changed in the uniform

❥Head accessoires are permitted, as long as they don't cover all the uniform

❥Only the Dorm Leader and Guardians can change the shape of the accessory on the bow

❥Illumina students usually wear a lot of make-up even when wearing school uniforms

Longbeaked Nectarine Pheasant

Busy-Nectar Birds ➥ P. Nect

A fat little bird, about the size of a small, domestic chicken. The females are white, with black primaries, coverts, alula, and marginal coverts. The rest of the wing is rough in texture and white, with long, thin feathers that stick out at odd angles. The male has similar but shorter black coloration, and is a much brighter, almost squash yellow. The male has eyed plumage on the underside of his tail, and a darker, slightly shorter beak. They feed on insects, primarily the butterflies who inhabit their flowers of choice, Grumbacher and Rachen. They drink nectar, hence their name. They are generally altruistic birds, and will nurse the offspring of other pairs, or form small ‘family’ groups of unrelated birds. They are soft to the touch and unafraid of people. Often, they will chase each other around in a playful manner, or other wild animals. 

Pairs mate for life. In the autumn, males put on loud, impressive displays, in which they flip their tails over their heads and dance. The calls are short and shrill, akin to a chipmunk chirp. The nests, made in the winter, are dugout holes in the forest floor, often in the roots of large trees, in close proximity to patches of the flowers they feed upon. The insides are lined with grass, animal fur, and discarded human trash, and the clutches are 4-5 eggs total. In the summer, they are arboreal, and rarely leave the canopy. The taste is similar to fatty beef.

Dicking around trying to draw wings. I fucked up Meta KNight’s pretty bad. But it’s mostly me noticing in the Planet RObobot’s CD art the arms of his wings look beefy as fuck and I tried to adapt the Flying Fox style arms to him. Didn’t work out well, but hey. And then I moved on to paying around with GK’s wings. Hawk wings specifically (Lady Galacta’s will always be raven wings though). I don’t see him with those pretty pretty delicate dove wings honestly he has to fly tough, strongk, and THOSE ALULA FEATHERS YEE. Also butterfly/moth wings. Jet’s jet reference. They open up to launch him out. A drawing of Celeste looking confused, probably at more beefy wings. And finally, throwaway gag revolving around Ghost’s arms.

could i humbly ask for more fun facts regarding the red sky gays

sdgjksdgdg CERTAINLY. I have a commission out for a group photo of some of the original Red Sky gays buuuut

Nightshade is a cinnabar moth. Alula is a Pompelon moth. Mist is a red lacewing/batwing butterfly. Cross was based loosely off a Hawaiian tree snail. Marra is actually based off of a meganeura not a dragonfly, but I use dragonfly regardless because that's just how I roll.

Nightshade and Alula are sisters. Reed is Nightshade's child, and his father is also a future Troupe member (and @basilbellona & @dropout-ninja's favorite).

Most of the Troupe members are some shade of red :') this is entirely by accident.

They WILL be called a Troupe and become a full fledged Circus eventually. In nine hundred years at the rate this plot is proceeding.

Another fun fact is that most of the Troupe members are OCs belonging to my friends -- namely @arsonistmoth, @aidaita and eventually @voidichor. (All are used with permission / encouragement -- 'cause I wanted more diversity than just my millions of OCs dskjgdsng).
