Ok so TELL ME WHY SPOILERS AHEAD!!

Ok so. I just finished the game, and I absolutely loved it, 2 points I wanna make about it

1. Am I the only one who wasn't shocked and kinda already realised that Alyson was the one who killed Mary-Anne? Like I thought it was really obvious but then I went to tiktok and saw that so many people were like really shocked and stuff

And 2. Justice for Tyler's hair

Why do people feel the need to buzz a character's hair? 😭 It completely ruins the look

Anyway my two points

(Extra point, apparently so many people rejected Michael's advances because they were hoping for a female love interest.. Is that a common thing?)

This is hands-down my favorite Tell Me Why screenshot out of the thousands of Tell Me Why screenshots I've taken. The perfect juxtaposition of Tyler's (justified) rage and Alyson's latent-but-awakening anxiety with the Bond icon showing up like a Sims -- in the corner just gets me laughing every time.

Replaying Tell Me Why and being crushed once again. The fact that whatever memory you chose to believe, one of the siblings is gonna feel bad about it. Either Tyler will have to live with the thought his mom tried to kill him for being trans, either Alyson will have to live with the thought she actually killed her mom for nothing. Either Tyler will think his mom was in fact accepting him for who he was, either Alyson will think she did the right thing and saved her brother. But they can't have both.

Also the way Tyler lied and said he was the one who killed her, because he was a kid and didn't want his sister to get in trouble, but the only result was that he got the therapy he needed and not Alyson. Because they were just kids and didn't know any better, they just thought one of them was going to be in big trouble

Okay but why hasn't anyone played Tell Me Why, its such a good game and i really enjoyed it but the fandom is so fucking small i don't know anyone who has played it 💔

Thinking about Tyler Ronan begging and begging to join the hockey team as a kid before Mary-Ann’s death and one of the first things we learn about Alyson is that she was on the varsity hockey team in high school (which implies she’d probably played throughout middle school as well imo) while Tyler was at Fireweed despite never really seeming to have an interest in sports herself

And I’m just....she had to have joined originally because of Tyler, he wanted to join so bad and never got the chance after that night but she had the option and she did because he couldn’t and it probably made her feel connected with her brother during those years when they never saw each other and didn’t use their voice and it just kills me

so i've seen some strong opinions about which version of the events on the night of Mary-Anne's death is the truth — and while i don't begrudge anyone their perspective or decision, i just simply cannot believe that she would ever have hurt or threatened Tyler.

the conversion therapy pamphlet was clearly repulsive to her, found underneath the (difficult to find in '05 alaska) transgender affirming parenting book

she had already read Tyler's diary and learned about his image of himself from there (which was absolutely a huge invasion of privacy and i won't defend it, but it's relevant)

and most crucially of all, in my book (pun intended)

he is gendered correctly in the book of goblins, that they all created together

none of this is to say she didn't make a ton of mistakes, or that she was thinking clearly cornering him holding the shotgun in that vulnerable moment — she fucked up that's for sure, and 11yo Alyson's judgement in the scenario makes complete sense

just.. why would she have left that hauntingly beautiful attic puzzle, which she addresses to her goblins, if she was going to kill them

No spoilers but the fact this has gotten me to question what I thought about Tyler and Aly's mother in an hour is amazing. Did she want to accept Tyler??? Send him away????? I don't know and not even the twins know!!!! That's storytelling!

Might be an hour or two late, but still wanted to wish the Ronan twins a very happy 29th birthday!

I hope Alyson and Tyler are able to spend their birthday together and with good friends! They deserve it after so many years apart.
